Performance Improves With Studio Query Window Open
Aug 28, 2007
Bit of a strange one here. We have a SQL Express instance running with one database which is accessed by a VB6 client application.
Performance between the application and the database isn't great, but bizarrely if you open a Query window from the Management Studio (against the database) the performance dramatically improves - to the extent that it is visually noticeable from within the application.
So, I'm thinking that the database connections being made by the application are taking longer because of instance name resolution or the like and with the Query window open this resolution is performed quicker.
Has anyone come across this situation? I can re-create it on several different computers each with their own Express instance and I've not found anything about this on the net.
Here's the connection string used by the application - I have tried various permutations of values to no avail:
Post installation of SQL Server 2014 Express edition, I am able to connect to the Database Instance.
But while opening a new query window in SSMS or opening a table getting the error:
Package 'RadLangSvc.Package, RadLangSvc, Version 12.0.0.0, Culture=Neutral, Public Token=89845dcd8080cc91' failed to load
Object reference not set to an instance of an object. (mscorlib)..Have already tried installing the componentsDACProjectSystemSetup_enu.msi, TSql LanguageService_enu.msi, DACFramework_enu.msi from path VS 2010 WCU DAC.
I'm currently working on my first project which is using SQL express. The performance of the queries is really quick with management studio closed. But when I have it open to test queries, my program seems to take longer to connect to the server. Is there something I haven't set up right or is this to be expected when using the express edition?
I'm trying to write a query with named parameters/variables in the Management Studio - New Query pane. Where should I post a question about how to create parameters/variables?
Executing the stored procedure took 45 seconds. But copying the code to a query window and setting up the variables (instead of parameters), it took 7 seconds.
In the query window, most of the processing cost (86%) is right up front in a "Distinct Sort." But in exec stored procedure, the cost for this step is 11% and the significant costs are in later "Table Scans."
I don't know why SQL Server would choose different execution plans when the code is identical in each.
Can anyone tell me if you can display line numbers in the query windowof SQL 2005 Management Studio and if so how do I go about doing it?Thanks a bunch. TFD
My SSIS package is running very slow taking so much time to execute, One task is taking 2hr for inserting 100k records, i have disabled unused index still it is taking time.I am rebuilding/Refreshing indexes and stats once in month if i try to execute on daily basis will it improve my SSIS Package performance?Â
I have several data bases on a server (SQL Server 2000 only, no web server installed) and lately, as the company keeps gowing, my users complain saying the server gets slow, (this dbs are well designed and recieve optimizations and integrity checks, etc) because of this, Im thinking about getting a new server to repleace my old ProLiant ML 330 which was bought 4 years ago but Im concerned about what server arquitecture or characteristic can help me best to improve response performance, is it HD speed? Processor speed? or more Ram? I want to make a good decision, so I´d really appreciate your help...
Hi,I have a web application using Stored Procedure (SP). I see that there's a SP taking long time to execute. I try to capture it by Profiler Tool, and find out that with the same SP on the same db with the same parameter. The duration of executing by my web app is far bigger than the duration of executing on SQl server management studio - query windowPlease see the image attached http://kyxao.net/127/ExecutionProblem.png Any ideas for this issue? Thanks a lot Jalijack
I have to create a link activated by clicking on an image.
In the image navigation properties I inserted the link in "jump to url" but the problem is that no new window is opened, the url is opened in the initial report page. I tried to use jscript this way:
Is there anyone can help me to run window when after done with installation, i wana open but i got message" this installation package could not be opened. verify that the package exists and that you can access it. or contact the application vedor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package" My comp is running w/ Win home XP. thanks
I have areport with a text box. The text box is hyperlinked to another report url. The report opens in a new page when previewed with RS 2005 but when deployed the report opens in teh same page from where it is referenced.
How can I set a property with the texbox to always open in a new page the hyperlinked report.
Hello guys,I've one query regarding accessing SQL Server. I want to use SQL Server jobs scheduling functionality. Is it possible to open SQL Server's jobs window from VB.NET? (Server -> Management -> Jobs) Pls. help me to solve this query. Thanks in advance. Waiting for yr reply.
I want to open a pdf file in a new window by clicking on its URL in SSRS reoprt. I heard that it is possible with Java script. So I tried with ="javascript:void window.open('yoururl&rs:Command=Render"')" in the SSRS expression. It is working only for https and http.
I have a report with a hyperlink. When I go to the navigation tab, it does not give me any options to open the link in a new window. I have a link to show help and I do not want the user to actually move away from the reports
Hi All, I have seen many posts in this regard and tried different alternatives but could not succeed. I have a url to non reporting services application from the ssrs report.
It is working fine, but the problem is, it is opening in the same window of the browser. But the requirement is to open the url in the window. so i have tried withis url :
I couldn't find an 'SQL Server Agent' Forum , so I'm posting this here...sorry.
I'm using a job to run a batch file with several robocopy commands in it. The step in the scheduled job runs a SSIS package saved in the Server Package Store. The SSIS package uses an 'Execute Process Task' control flow item. The 'Execute Process task' simply calls and execute the batch file. (WindowStyle property = Maximized) The package/job runs fine in both Visual Studio and in Management Studio. However when run from the latter (SQL Management Studio Job) the command prompt window (dos screen) doesn't open so I can't tell at what stage the batch file is in at any given time.
How can I get the window to open? By the way the window does open if I run the SSIS from Visual Studio.
Using SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services and want to open new IE window to link to a site. We are using IE 6.0.
I am using the following Navigation "Jump to URL" in report: javascript:void(window.open('http://www.microsoft.com/en/us/default.aspx'))
This works as expected if I am not using the DNS alias to reference Reporting Services. But if I use the DNS alias when referencing Reporting Services, then when I click the link in the report I get the "Cannot find server or DNS Error" in the IE window that opens. Everything else works correctly in the reports when I use the DNS alias.
I want to be able to open URLs in a new window in my SSRS report, and the URLs keep changing in every record. The problem is these links are not the only things present in the record, and there is other data present. I keep seeing examples where they are considering only a link to be present in the record with no other data.
Also the data in the record includes HTML tags and I checked the option that says "HTML - Interpret HTML tags as styles" on the placeholder properties window.
Example of data in the record: Hello! Welcome to google, the most used search engine. Click on www.google.com to go the website
So when I click on the www.google.com URL, it should open in a new window.Â
keyboard shortcuts for management studio http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms174205.aspx
Anyone know of a way to setup a keyboard shortcut to close the current window your working in ? Normally with other editors (such as visual studio) I use ctl-w to close the current window. Cant do that with sql studio.
I have an assignment where I am asked to create a test report with Cascaded parameters in a report for use on an Intranet. Found a good guide on a site named slqtips. The only problem is, that when I have created my data source, my data sets and my queries, I should go to the window "Report parameter properties", for specifing the data which should be included in the choices in the report, and I cannot find it! As a matter of fact the milieu I work in, Report designer in Visual Basic Studio Shell 2013, on a MS SQL 2012 Server, looks different in many way compared to the guide. It actually also differs from the Pictures in the book "Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services" I also try to use for the purpose.Am I perhaps working in the wrong place, or what can the problem be? Is this Visual basic 2013 Window some kind of upgrade which is different from the original version where you used to work with Report designer?
I have a VS2008 project with a CE3.5 database. I am unable to open this database within SQL 2005 Management Studio only VS2008. Any way of updating the CE engine for Management Studio?
"You are trying to access an older version of a SQL Server Compact Edition database (this is lying I know the db is 3.5+)"
I have a database which was automatically created in VWD (final release version). I want to design this database using the Management Studio software. How can I access the database from this tool? I am able to connect to the sql server running on my machine however the database created for the website is not listed there.
I can't seem to open my SQL Server Management Studio Express CTP anymore. I need help figuring this out. I was able to open it before.
I went to the Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and tried to "repair" the program but nothing changes. Anytime I double-click on ssmsee.exe, the hour-glass flashes, but the program never starts. Any ideas why?
The last thing I loaded was the AdventureWorksBI.msi. I already downloaded and installed AdventureWorksDB.msi.
I have Windows 2000 Pro, I have SQL Server 2005 Express loaded, among other 2005 Express programs. No other problems.
Any clues?
I am sure that whatever the correct is to newbievsprogrammer's post at http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=295166&SiteID=1 will also relate to mine as I can't seem to connect to any database either.
I've been trying this solution http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2200113&SiteID=1 but for whatever reason it's not working. This is a SQL 2005 server SP2 I am trying to connect to.
I tried servernameMSSQL.1 I tried just servername. Restarted SSIS both times.
What's odd is that I have an admin db that I was able to connect to in VSS.
Greetings, I have a report that was previously deployed to a reporting services host (running Reporting Services 2005 SP2) and I'm running the version of Visual Studio that came with reporting services on the same reporting serviceshost. The deployed report was never opened on this particular server, so it doesn't appear in the recent files list. Is there a trick to open a deployed report in all of Visual Studio's report editing glory? Visual Studio has a File Open option to open an analysis services database, a project, or a file. A "deployed report" seems to be none of these options since it's an RDL file stored somewhere that IIS can find it. I know that I can use Report Manager and export the RDL for the report and then edit that RDL file in Visual Studio, but doing that appears to disable all of Visual Studio's report editing features (ie it works no better than notepad). What's the trick to get Visual Studio to open the deployed report and allow all of it's editing tools to work properly and then save the updated report back to the reporting services server?
hello Friends, I am trying to import a database model that I created in Microsoft visio into Embarcadero erstudio 7.1.1? Any idea how that could be done? There seems to be no option to import vsd files?
I have uploaded a table into sql management studio express. However, when I right click on the table and try and open it, I get an error message saying;
