I have a table in my database where I want the Insert/Modify permissions to only administrator or (User X). Remaining users can just read the data. How do I set this in sqlserver 2005 database?
I can right click Table->properties->Permissions and add specific permissions to admin. But how would i deny permisssions to all others? I cannot add each login to deny permissions.
I have 4 new SQL Server 2005 installations on Windows 2003 that I configured at our main office and shipped to a hosting center. All four servers are members of our domain. I set up test datbases with replication on one of the servers and facilitated this with a domain account.
Now that I've moved the servers to the hosting center (which has a DC) and I'm not having any luck adding domain accounts to the permissions section on any of the the SQL Server boxes.
When I try to add a domain account in the SQL Server's permissions window I get "Name Not Found". By every indication the server is connected to the domain. I can log on using my domain account; I can create shares specifying domain accounts but I can't seem to add domain accounts to the SQL server permissions. When I look in the permission's tab I still see the original domain account, I had added back in the main office, stranded by itself in the list of users. We're using mixed authentication by the way.
Why doesn't SQL Server recognize the domain? Where does it get it's list of users? Does the account I'm logging in with just not have the permission to add domain accounts? These diaglogs are slightly different from the normal 'add a user' dialog boxes.
I feel like this must be a simple oversight. Any help would be appreciated. I'd prefer to move away from local accounts to keep things simple.
I have Two table. One is MainTable and other is Temporary table. Both have Same Field Before entering data into main table I want to check weather these data's are already there or not. Here i am checking only three column of temporary table to the MainTable.
Using SQL Server 2k5 sp1, Is there a way to deny users access to a specific column in a table and deny that same column to all stored procedures and views that use that column? I have a password field in a database in which I do not want anyone to have select permissions on (except one user). I denied access in the table itself, however the views still allow for the user to select that password. I know I can go through and set this on a view by view basis, but I am looking for something a little more global.
I am trying to 'load' a copy of a SQLServer 2000 database to SQLServer 2005 Express (on another host). The copy was provided by someone else - it came to me as a MDF file only, no LDF file.
I have tried to Attach the database and it fails with a failure to load the LDF. Is there any way to bypass this issue without the LDF or do I have to have that?
The provider of the database says I can create a new database and just point to the MDF as the data source but I can't seem to find a way to do that? I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express.
I have an app that uses a sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to connect to a sqlserver 2000.
Is it possible to do a direct replacement of sqlserver 2000 with sqlserver 2005 express just by reconfiguring the app to point to the express? The app would still be using the sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to try and make the connection.
If that is a possibility, what can be some differences in the configuration? Previously with 2000 the config information I entered is:
server name: "machinename"( or ip). I've also tried "machiname/SQLEXPRESS"
DB name: name of db instance
port: 1433(default)
user and pass.
My attempts so far results in
"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Error establishing socket."
and
"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Unable to connect. Invalid URL."
I have an SQLServer Mobile database, and I would like to know if there is a way to upgrade it to SQLServer 2005 (.mdf) database. My database has no records in it, just the structure (tables etc). What I am actually asking is if I can create automatically a new SQLServer 2005 Database with the same structure as my existin SQLSErver Mobile database
I am in the process of planning a server upgrade to sql2005 x64.
I created 2 linked servers: one to a SQL2000 sp4 server and one to a SQL7.0 SP3.
I have the following error when I query the linked servers. OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K" returned message "Unspecified error". OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K" returned message "The stored procedure required to complete this operation could not be found on the server. Please contact your system administrator.". Msg 7311, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 Cannot obtain the schema rowset "DBSCHEMA_TABLES_INFO" for OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K". The provider supports the interface, but returns a failure code when it is used.
I am aware of KB 906954. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;906954
I applied the instcat.sql on the SQL2000SP4 server and my linked server issues for that one are gone.
However, I ran the instcat.sql script on the SQL7.0 sp3 server and the linked server is still giving me an issue.
I am using SQL Server 2005 and trying to create a linked server on Oracle 10. I used the commands below: EXEC sp_addlinkedserver @server = 'test1', @srvproduct = 'Oracle', @provider = 'MSDAORA', @datasrc = 'testsource' exec sp_addlinkedsrvlogin @rmtsrvname = 'test1', @useself = 'false', @rmtuser='sp', @rmtpassword='sp'
When I execute select * from test1...COUNTRY I get the error. "The OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server "...." does not contain the table "COUNTRY". The table either does not exist or the current user does not have permissions on that table." The 'sp' user I am connecting is the owner of the table. What could be the problem ? Thanks a lot.
I have SQLServer 2005 runs well for months and stop working after install SqlServer2005 SP1. I try to reinstall the SQLServer 2005 but I have problem when install work station component on my and the error is "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor". Please help me to fix this bug. I do not want to reformat my machine.
I currently have SQL Server Management Studio Express 2005 and would like to upgrade my machine to SQL Developer 2005 as easily as possible. Keeping my databases and such.
Any recommendations on the best way to do this would be greatly appreciated.
Hello Im pretty new to development so..... be nice guys. I have VS2005 pro and SQL Server 2005 developer edition installed. When I open VS, in the server explorer i can connet to databases located on the SQL directory (SQL Server runs perfectly) But when i try to add an sql server to my project( add new item --> SQL database) it gives me an error saying "Connection to SQL server files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2005 to function properly. Please verify the installation of the component......" HELP! donno what VS wants!
I am trying to debug a sp, I did it like a month ago and now i am getting msg:" T-SQL execution ended without debugging. You may not have sufficient permissions to debug"

I am a sysadmin user (he tells me) , I have looked up info but really dont understand any of the stuff, (i am a super dummy! and just started this job 5mo ago, and learned from reading a book, so i dont have any great understanding about domains or anything. Pls help
I want to set permissions on two tables...i dont want to allow delete or truncate statements to be executed on those tables. how can i do it....(sqlserver 2005)
In SQL/2000 EM I can go to a user Database, expand the Users, double click a user and click Permissions to see everything a user has permisson to in the database. How can I get the same information in Management Studio in SQL/2005? Is there an overview of this process in BOL 2005?
I am just migrating to SQL Server 2005 and I am having difficulty figuring out how to do some tasks that were easy under SQL Server 2000. Specifically, I am not sure about object permissions.
(This is what I did for SQL Server 2000) For database access by my web application, I added a SQL login for the IIS_WPG group. I then added a database user (name ASPNET) associated with this database login and give it only datareader and datawriter privileges. I would then 'double-click' the user, which would bring up the list of securable objects. I would then click the 'execute' permission for all of the user-created stored procedures. [done]
For SQL Server 2005, I am not quite sure what to do. It seems to me (based on what I see after importing the tables), that a schema should be used, but I do not see any explicit permissions in the schema. On the other hand, if I select each stored procedure and look at its properties, I can see that the ASPNET user has execute permission.
It seems inconceivable that the only way to configure permissions is to modify each SP by hand. This would take more than 10 times as long as the SQL Server 2000 method of assigning permissions.
So, my question is this: How can permissions be assigned 'wholesale'? (i.e., some method akin to the SQL Server 2000 method that does not require setting permissions on each individual object individually.)
Of course, if you care to suggest a better way to do this, I'd love to hear it!
Hi. I created user: "Reporter" This User is set as my anonomoys login user in IIS 6.0. I gave him permissions on both the database server & the Report server, however I keep getting an error. "The permissions granted to user 'SRVRReporter' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied).
I inherited the task of syncing up these new reports & I'm trying to follow what the last guy did (not exactly though, that's why I created the new user)
I gave the new user login rights on both servers as well as access to the SQL 2005 database. I have the identity impersonate="true"
Can anyone out there tell me what permission I need to grant to get my reports to run?
I have always set up sql security for reporting to have select permissions on the tables to be used in the reports. I'm told by my coworkers that this is not advisable and I should only use stored procedures for reporting. I use stored procedures for all application duties, insert/update/delete etc but find with reporting it's much easier to just provide select permission to the tables. The only drawback to my method appears to me to be a user could conceivably view all data in tables while with the stored procedure one can limit what is being viewed. Anything else I'm missing? Thanks.
Does anybody know of a way to allow non-administrators to execute the truncate table statement?
I have developers that from time to time need to move data between their databases usinge the DTS wizard. Most of their tables have identity columns and in order retain the identity seed, they need to click on the option to enable identity insert. This option isn't available to non administrators.
Is there a way to replicate the table permissions from publisher to subscriber? I noticed that when replication takes place, the permissions that were set up on tables on the subscriber are wiped out. I need the permissions to be send to the subscriber automatically.
I have give permission to one SQL Server 2005 user account on a table in my database. i want to script that or any permission i have on table.
my question is, how to create that script in SQL server 2005. if i right click the table -> select "script table as" and select "create to" new query editor, it only creates script for creating the table and doesnt include the permission any account have on that table.....how to do that ? plz help
I have a list of users that I want to restrict access to tables in a database. The goal is to allow the users to use select statements on the views instead of the tables. How can this be accomplished?
I have been asked to grant a Windows group Full access to all tables under our Sandbox Schema. This will allow these users to do anything to the tables under this Schema.
I created the Windows Group (Sandbox Users), created the login in SQL, created the user in the database that is tied to the Windows group, then ran GRANT CONTROL ON SCHEMA::[Sandbox] TO [Sandbox Users].
I have verified that the users are in the Windows group, but they state that they still can not delete tables under the Sandbox Schema.
We have build and ASP.Net web application and also running another application that runs as a windows service.
We are having a problem with SQL 2005 express in that :the service and the webpages are able to access the resource individually, but when both are trying to access the resource, that is creating a problem and give us SQL access errors.
We have a windows forms app (VB.NET) that uses SQL Server 2005 Express in user instance mode. We have installed the app on hundreds of Win2K and WinXP PCs without any problems, but have run into an issue with one customer's site. They are running Win2K SP4 and we have installed the application on a couple of PCs at the customer's site to determine if it is environmental. The error occurs as the program is starting up the user instance of the database:
Error information:

This error occurs at the first attempt to write to the database during the program startup. Any ideas?
I have a trigger on an orders table. It checks against a patientmaster table to see if the sentflag is set to n or y. If it is "n" I need to push a record to a table on a separate db table. The user has permissions on the orders table. Without having the user be added and given permissions on the second db and table, what would be the best approach inside the trigger to handle this. I am using nt/sql security for this
I am having trouble with permissions on views and tables. I have a set of tables owned by dbo, and then a set of view owed by another user, say User1. So I have a table dbo.Airports, and then a view User1.Airports. User1 has all permissions on dbo.Airports, and via ISQL I can select and update with no problem. MY VB application is working with User1.Airport, and it will select from User1.Airport fine, but I keep getting an error when I try to Update User1.Airport. I have many other tables set up the same way, and they all work fine - my VB app updates no problem. Any ideas?
I have dropped and recreated the table and all views, assigned all permissions, everything looks good, but...
Another strangev thing is if I use Enterprise Manager, and display permissions by user, and display all tables and views, the permissions are checked off for the view, but not the table, (which is incorrect) but if I don't display permissions for view, the permissions are checked off forv the table, which is correct. So that seems not to be working correctly.
