Routine Crashing Of Visual Studio 2005 When Running Or Editing SSIS

Jun 7, 2006

We have found that it is common for Visual Studio 2005 to crash when editing or running SSIS packages -- from CTP versions through beta versions and including the release version.

Of course we kept hoping that newer releases would become more stable, or at least more robust -- and now I'm hoping there will be a service pack, which might make it more robust?

Editing .dtsconfig Files

Oct 17, 2007

Apologies if this has been posted before and feel free to point me to an existing thread if it has.

I currently have a dev, stage and live environment for a package

i have created a load.dtsconfig file that contains various bits such as connection strings, email to, from, etc which i created via the package configurations in the dev package. I then made a few changes via XML Notepad

I went to use the same config file on stage and decided to add a further property. I selected package configurations on stage and selected edit it the package configurations box, added the property and clicked finish. However it reset all the existing properties to the values that exist in the actual package so all the changes i made via XML notepad were overwritten.

Is there anyway you can get the Package configurations editor to retain the values from the .dtsconfig file rather than reading in the values from the package???

cheers

Editing SSIS Packages

Jul 18, 2006

I have successfully created several SSIS packages in the Development Studio. I want to schedule those packages to run with SQL Agent. The only way I could schedule them was to go to File>Save copy as...(not save as) which would give me a choice of either to save it to SQL Server or SSIS Package Store. Using this method allowed me to schedule the package but then I couldn't figure out how to edit the package without going back into the Development Studio, right-clicking on SSIS packages and selecting "Add Existing Package" and selecting that package from the SSIS Package store then opening it to edit.

That seems like a lot of work to edit a package. Is that the desired way to create, save, schedule and edit a SSIS package?

Thanks for any help.

Error Editing SSIS Pkg In BIDS

Aug 22, 2007

We are using SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition SP2. I have a fixed-length flat file import spec created in SQL Server Mgmt Studio using the Import wizard. I then created an Integration Sevices project in BIDS and added the existing SQL Server package created with the wizard to the project. When I try to edit the package with the SSIS designer, it does not appear to handle the package properly. That is, only some of the fields are selected (and when I select all the available fields, still only some show up in the detail pane of the Input Columns tab), the data types are incorrect, and the starting location (it's a fixed length file, remember) for each field (LineageID?) is incorrect. My understanding is that, with Workgroup Edition, there are only two ways, other than say programmatically from a VB program, to run the package: (1) by creating a SQL Agent job or from a BIDS project. I have seen a Cumulative Update package (#2) for SP2 that mentions some problems in BIDS' handling of SSIS pkgs, but the symptoms are in no way similar to this. Can anyone tell me what is going on here?? Thanks.

SQL 2012 :: Running 2005 SSIS Packages That Read FoxPro Files?

Aug 26, 2013

We are in the process of upgrading to a new SQL 2012 server but we have many packages that load data from dbf files created with FoxPro into one of our databases. We have not converted the packages and run them with DTS but we get the following error:

Error: 2013-08-26 11:05:27.36
Code: 0xC0209303
Source: BenchmarkLoad Connection manager "OLEDB NPIONE.Investment.middleTierSQL"
Description: The requested OLE DB provider SQLNCLI.1 is not registered. If the 64-bit driver is not installed, run the package in 32-bit mode. Error code: 0x00000000.

[Code] .....

I searched for OLEDB and ODBC drivers for SQL 2012 64 bit but cannot find any that is newer than the 2005 that we have. What can I do short of changing the source files to overcome this issue?

Problem Importing Multiple Flat Files Into SQL Sevrer (2005) Using SSIS

Mar 3, 2008

Hi,

I'm just learning SSIS. As I was following the tutorial on foreach loop container (lesson 2) to export multiple flat files in creating a simple ETL package in SSIS, I get the following error:

This occurs when the number of errors reaches the number specified in MaximumErrorCount. Change the MaximumErrorCount or fix the errors.
SSIS package "Take17.dtsx" finished: Failure.

I spent some time in understanding where could be the error. I traced it to the following place. If you take a look at the Lesson#2 in creating a simple ETL package in SSIS, using foreach loop container to import files into SQL server, as soon as I finish going through steps in configuring the file connection manager to use the variable for connectionstring, it immediately disappears. I repeated the tutorial three times exactly as I pointed out and when I reach to this step of configuring file connection manager for connectionstring, it takes the path and when I start debugging it, I get this error. When I go and check if everything is Ok, the connectionstring value is empty.

Why the value in connectionstring disappears?

Thank you.

Sql Server 2005 Questions Regarding Editing Views

Previously in Sql Server 2000, we would be in enterprise manager, you'ddouble click on a view, and a nice little dialog box opened with the t-sqlstatetments, there was also a check sql syntax and apply and cancel buttons. Not exactly query anaylizer, just a quick lightweight dialog box. Is thisfeature still around? Seems like I have to go into the query anaylizer likemode to edit a view now. I am a total newbie to version 2005. Are there anyoptions I can set to make it behave the old way? All feedback isappreciated.TIA,~CK

Vb.net 2005, Sql2005 Not Locking The Records While Editing

Dec 18, 2007

I have created a database and used visual basic 2005.net2.0 to build the application. I used the data wizard. it created datatables and then I bound it to the contols on the form. The program is published to the server and each instance loads from the server and executes. When it stops, the instance is destructed from the host pc. The pc's are large ram and very small hard drive. These were the specs of the job. now when each pc loads an instance of the program, they can all load and edit the same exact record. I tried to bust it and I got on the same record and changed first name on one and last name on the other. the second one overwrote the first name edit. All of the data handling is done inside of the dataset designer and it does not allow edits. ( actually you can edit, but the next time you save it, or run it, it will rewrite what you added and it will be gone.) is there anything I can add to the form vb to tell it to lock the current record?

How To Restrict Editing Of SQL Server 2005 Data Via ODBC Link?

Apr 25, 2007

I have a sql server 2005 database with Delphi 2006 in the front end and for querrying and reporting we use MS Access 2003 by connecting to this database via ODBC connection. I recently found out that the SQL Server 2005 data connected thus can be edited (updated) from MS Access. I do not want end users to modify/update the SQL Server 2005 data from MS Access while I also want them to have the ability to insert/update/delete rights using the appropriate application interface. For now, I am handling this by creating a user id that is not permitted to update, insert and delete and using the same account in the ODBC. Is there a way in SQL Server 2005 you can control insert/update/delete rights for all users that will be applicable only in the ODBC mode?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Linked Server To Text Files: Is Possible To Detect Changes Made To Those Files? (SQL Server 2005)

Sep 3, 2007

Hi gurus,

I've created a linked server (and set up the corresponding schema.ini file) in order to perform bulk-inserts from some CSV text files into SQL tables (from my standpoint the text files are just for reading purposes). The linked server works fine (I can select the data in the files without a problem).

Now the question: is possible to automatically detect when one or more of those files change in order to start the import process automatically? Something like having a trigger created on the CSV files Or there's no easy way to do that so I have, to say something, to create a Job that periodically checks if the files have changed programatically (say, recording each file's timestamp everytime is imported and comparing the recorded value with the current one, or whatever)?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Delete Old Files (SSIS Or DOS)

Oct 9, 2007

I've been tasked with coming up with a process to delete old files out of a certain directory. It's prefered to have a configuration file to go in and be able to change the number of days to retain files (7 for delete files older than 7 days for example). I've been told I can do this with SSIS. Can anybody point me in the right direction to do this in SSIS or even in DOS? I don't know ActiveX scripting if that's what's needed in SSIS. I prefer doing something like this in DOS but not sure it's possible to automate. Any help is appreciated.

Running Bat Files In SSIS

Aug 27, 2007

Folks -

Did you have any success when running bat files (Execute Process Task) from SSIS through SQL Server Agent jobs? My package will succeed when I run it from my machine, when I ask the DBA to run it manually from the Server but not when we run from a job.

The job will hang and the bat file does not seem to be executed. The executable property does evaluate to the right path and the package owner does have write/execute permissions in the folder where the bat file is located.

Everything I could find close to that is under <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918760>. Would you shed any light on this? When I run the same bat file from a DTS through SQL Server Agent job, it will work with no issues. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

SSIS Configuration Files

Jul 17, 2007

Hello,

I am having a bit of trouble with SSIS Configurations.

- In BIDS, I have added a configuration file and specified the properties I want to expose.
- When I build the project, I get the standard bindeployment folder which contains the package file (.dtsx), the configuration file (.dtsconfig) and the deploymentmanifest.
- Before deploying the package, I edit the config file to have the settings I want it to for the environment I am deploying to.
- The package deploys OK
- When I work directly on the SSIS server (64 bit), I can go into SQl Mgt Studio, choose 'run package' and when I look in the connection manager window all the settings are as I desire ( I havent had to add a configuration file manually)
- When I work on a client machine, I connect to the SSIS server and choose 'run package' - the properties/connections are the same as on the server but the values themselves are completely different.

Why is this? Why when I run the package from the client (32 bit) do the configuration values appear to be completely different? How can I run the package remotely and pick up the configuration values that I deployed with?
Or have I misunderstood this whole configuration function?

Please, please help!

Doing A Diff Of 2 Files W SSIS?

Jan 21, 2008

We recieve about 4 million rows of data from a client per week. Each file is a complete snapshot of their data, we need to be able to find the rows that are different or new in the current weeks file compared to last weeks file.

Is this possible using 2 Flat file sources and some kind of sort/merge join?

If you are familiar with ORACLE or postgres its similar to a "MINUS" or "EXCEPT" respectively. Right now we load both files to separate tables and compare them in sql server which is very slow.

SSIS Processes All Files In A FTP Folder

Jan 2, 2007

Hello everyone - wonder if you can help.

How do you process all files in an FTP directory - similar to the for each loop for files.

I need to be able to download each file and then move it to an archive folder on the ftp site.
Might also want to do some things in between.

I have a feeling it means getting the directory listing into a recordset or variable then enumerating that.

Sounds like a common requirement and would be quite easy by other means. Can't help feeling that SSIS has built in tasks to do it.

SSIS Script Task That FTP's Files

Feb 22, 2007

I could not find the exact details on how to create a SSIS script that would ftp files on these forums, so I am adding my code to help save time for anyone else that might be wanting to do something similar. Here is the VB code for my script task to FTP files (hope this helps someone):

' Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Script Task

' Write scripts using Microsoft Visual Basic

' The ScriptMain class is the entry point of the Script Task.

Imports System

Imports System.Data

Imports System.Math

Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime

Public Class ScriptMain

Public Sub Main()

Try

'Create the connection to the ftp server

Dim cm As ConnectionManager = Dts.Connections.Add("FTP")

'Set the properties like username & password

cm.Properties("ServerName").SetValue(cm, "Enter your Server Name here")

cm.Properties("ServerUserName").SetValue(cm, "Enter your FTP User Name here")

cm.Properties("ServerPassword").SetValue(cm, "Enter your FTP Password here")

cm.Properties("ServerPort").SetValue(cm, "21")

cm.Properties("Timeout").SetValue(cm, "0") 'The 0 setting will make it not timeout

cm.Properties("ChunkSize").SetValue(cm, "1000") '1000 kb

cm.Properties("Retries").SetValue(cm, "1")

'create the FTP object that sends the files and pass it the connection created above.

Dim ftp As FtpClientConnection = New FtpClientConnection(cm.AcquireConnection(Nothing))

'Connects to the ftp server

ftp.Connect()

'Build a array of all the file names that is going to be FTP'ed (in this case only one file)

Dim files(0) As String

files(0) = "Drive:FullPathYourFileName"

'ftp the file

'Note: I had a hard time finding the remote path directory. I found it by mistake by creating both the FTP connection and task in the SSIS package and it defaulted the remote path setting in the FTP task.

ftp.SendFiles(files, "/Enter Your Remote Path", True, False) ' the True makes it overwrite existing file and False is saying that it is not transferring ASCII

ftp.Close()

Catch ex As Exception

Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Failure

End Try

Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Success

End Sub

End Class
