Please Help. How To Set A Parameter In SSRS In Runtime? Parameters!myParam.Value Property Is Read-only

Mar 8, 2007

You can set the default value of a reporting services parameter by any expression.

But with code I'm NOT allowed to do:
Parameters!myParam.Value = CDate("01.01.2007")

This is cause Value property is read-only.
So the question would be:
Are there any way I set a parameter value in runtime ?

Hope anyone can help...

Reporting Services :: Start And End Date Parameters Report In SSRS 2008 Is Not Running On Runtime?

Aug 27, 2015

I made one report in SSRS 2008 in which getting data from one SharePoint List.

three parameters in report :

Country
StartDate
EndDate

I am using query which I created with CAML.

query is running well and data is coming correctly if I run this on Query designer.and date format must be YYYY-MM-DD.but when I try to run through on run time then the date control is showing format dd/mm/yyyy.

I change the regional settings of windows and SharePoint site to English(United States). and when I select date control it is also putting date in format like "YYYY-MM-DD'. and in that format report is working well in Query designer view.But on run time still it is not working.

Is Task.WaitForMe Property Ignored By SSIS Runtime?

Mar 24, 2007

Can the WaitForMe Task property be used for building eventing based tasks (that is, "tasks with no defined execution lifecycle"), as Haselden's IS book terms it?

The SSIS run-time would appear to never interrogate this property.
I tried setting a breakpoint in a custom task on the WaitForMe
property. The breakpoint was never hit at run-time. Design-time only. It seems that the run-time ignores this property.

The documentation states that "On completion of any task, the runtime examines tasks that are still running in
the container, and if any of these tasks have WaitForMe set to
false, those tasks will be canceled." Well, the tasks with WaitForMe set to false are in fact not cancelled (e.g. System::CancelEvent is not signalled).

The intention of the WaitForMe Task property is to allow for event based tasks to not prevent a package (or other container) from finishing if the event never happens.

Tasks like the WMI Event Watcher, Message QueueTask set to receive, and third party tasks like file watchers, or service broker queue receivers would seem to fall in this category.

Changing Header Rows To Skip Property In Flat File Connection During Runtime

Dec 21, 2006

Hi all

I have a flat file.I am trying to set the value for the property "HeaderRowsToSkip" during runtime.I have set an expression for this in my "flat file connection manager". But this is not working.The connection manager is not able to take the value during runtime.

My expression is as follows:

DataRowsToSkip : @[user:: Var]

where "Var" is my variable which gets the value from the rowcount component and trying to set it back to the "HeaderRowsToskip" property.

I ve even tried setting the value to the "HeaderRowsToSkip" property in the expression builder.

Its not working....

Can anyone help me out in solving this????

Thanks in advance

How Do I Read An Extended Property Of A Database In Code?

May 8, 2006

I have recently had the need to create a utility program to upgrade the schema of an existing database for users of my program at install time. I will be using SQL Management Studio to generate the change scripts the program will use, but I will need some kind of way to know what version of the database a user has installed.

After poking around in SQL Management Studio I found a place for "Extended Properties" on a database, and I thought this would be the perfect place to add a property called "SCHEMA_VERSION" to know what version of the database is installed.

I have no idea how to read and update this value in code though. Can someone provide a small example on how to read and update an extended property on a database? Any .NET language example is welcomed; C# is preferred. Thanks in advance!

New To SSRS - Pass Query Paramater At Runtime

Jun 21, 2007

Hi all,

Im new to SSRS, basically I have created and deployed a report to my reporting server.

Now I have a query parameter on my report. From my application, I can access the report manager, and here it asks me for my variable. I'm not sure if my question is a vb.net one, but I was wondering if anyone knew how I could pass my query paramater to SSRS at runtime. Basically it would be easier for my users if they could just see the report they are interested in, rather than having to type the variable in to be able to see the report.

Thanks for your time.

Verify Parameter Values At Runtime

May 5, 2008

I have a report that has three parameters. View, Tier and Manager. The View parameter has 3 possible choices: Company, Manager and Tier. If the user selects Company then they cannot select anything in the other two parameters. If the user selects Manager from the View parameter then they can only select something for the Manager parameter. Likewise, if they choose Tier from the View parameter they can only select something for the Tier parameter.

This is all working like I want it and provides the desired results. However, if a user selects Tier for the View parameter and then doesn't select anything for the Tier parameter it is just like selecting Company from the View parameter. What I'd like to do is have error checking so that if they do choose Tier from the View parameter and then try and run the report and Tier is still null have it indicate that they have to choose a tier.

To get the first part of this to work I had to create datasets that contained just a null and then default Manager and Tier to that dataset. Choosing the default of Null in the parameter set up didn't work.

I think the error checking could look something like this:

=IIf(Parameters!View.Value = "Tier" AND IsNothing(Parameters!tier.Value) , "Must Select Tier", Parameters!tier.Value)

Now, I just need to know where to put it. Is there something that it will look at before generating the report to check the values of parameters. Maybe like the NoRows property when no rows are returned?

How To Use Default Parameter Values With A Date Parameter From A Cube/Reducing Parameters

Oct 15, 2007

Hi,

I have parameters in my report. The user can choose the year, month and date (3 parameters).
Now I want to set default vaules for the parameters , so that the user sees the report for example for the current day without selecting the parameters. I tried to set the type of the parameters to DateTime and the default value for example for the year to "=Today().Year" . But when I execute the report an error occures . Something like : no validValue for this parameter.

My Attributes for the year month and date are from an Analyis Services Cube from a Server Time dimension .
Does somebody know how to make it possible to set default values for this parameters?

Other question :

Does somebody know how I can reduce the values for a parameter. For Example I have a parameter "year" from a server time dimension from a cube. The values which are available are "Year 2004", "Year 2005", "Year 2006", "Year 2007".
But I want that the user only can choose "Year 2006" or "Year 2007" ant not every Year or "All".
Or Other Example: The User should only choose a Date that is int the past or Today but not a Date in the future.

Thanks !

New Title In Thread : Error/bug In ASMX ? - Parameters And Toolbar Property In DevInfo

Apr 20, 2007

Hi all,

I am trying to build a reportviewer so that I could use reporting services (due to company's security policy).

I am getting a VERY weird error here.

Before I get on ahead, here is the scenario.

I had created a rdl that will give a certain report based on two parameters. At the moment, I didn't assign the parameters to any default values since i don't want the report to start running. These two parameters are run based on stored procedures to get the starting date and an ending date.

I had tried to view this report on Report Manager and it works.

I had set the parameters this way. NOTE: ReportingServer is the disgused name of the reportserver I am using for privacy purposes

Code Snippet

Dim rs As New ReportingServer.ReportingService

rs.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials

'Render arguments

Dim results() As Byte

Dim format As String = "HTML4.0"

Dim historyID As String = Nothing

'PDF Rendering extensions don't have any useful DeviceInfo settings

'the toolbar shown below only affects HTML rendering

Dim devInfo As String = "<DeviceInfo><HTMLFragment>True</HTMLFragment><JavaScript>True</JavaScript><Toolbar>True</Toolbar><Parameters>True</Parameters></DeviceInfo>"

Dim credentials() As ReportingServer.DataSourceCredentials = New ReportingServer.DataSourceCredentials() {}

Dim showHideToggle As String = ""

Dim encoding As String = ""

Dim mimeType As String = ""

Dim warnings() As ReportingServer.Warning = New ReportingServer.Warning(0) {}

Dim reportHistoryParameters() As ReportingServer.ParameterValue = New ReportingServer.ParameterValue() {}

Dim streamIDs() As String = Nothing

Dim sh As ReportingServer.SessionHeader = New ReportingServer.SessionHeader

rs.SessionHeaderValue = sh

But when I started building this reportviewer.aspx, it gives me this error on the following line:-

Code Snippet

results = rs.Render(ReportPath, format, historyID, devInfo, Parameters, credentials, _

showHideToggle, encoding, mimeType, reportHistoryParameters, warnings, streamIDs)

with the error

{"This report requires a default or user-defined value for the report parameter 'start_date'. To run or subscribe to this report, you must provide a parameter value. --> This report requires a default or user-defined value for the report parameter 'start_date'. To run or subscribe to this report, you must provide a parameter value. --> This report requires a default or user-defined value for the report parameter 'start_date'. To run or subscribe to this report, you must provide a parameter value."}

this is occuring on the line where it needs to render the report.

As simple as it is, i tried the following:-

NOTE: some variables has been changed to protect some identity.

Code Snippet

Dim ReportRenderer As New RenderSQLReports

Dim Parameters As int.rrd.sqlreporting_test.ParameterValue() = Nothing

ReportRenderer.RenderReport(Parameters, "/Folder/reportname", "pdffilename.pdf")

What I don't get is that i made sure that it doesn't have any default values.

So I went into this scenario and tried teh following:-

Code Snippet

Dim ReportRenderer As New RenderSQLReports

Dim Parameters() As Reportingservices.ParameterValue = New Reportingservices.ParameterValue(1) {}

Parameters(0) = New Reportingservices.ParameterValue

Parameters(0).Label = "start_date"

Parameters(0).Name = "start_date"

Parameters(0).Value = "10/1/1999 12:00:00 AM"

Parameters(1) = New Reportingservices.ParameterValue

Parameters(1).Label = "end_date"

Parameters(1).Name = "end_date"

Parameters(1).Value = "11/1/1999 12:00:00 AM"

ReportRenderer.RenderReport(Parameters, "/Folder/reportname", "pdffilename.pdf")

And this is what happens. It blows up on this line again. with this error.

Code Snippet

results = rs.Render(ReportPath, format, historyID, devInfo, Parameters, credentials, _

showHideToggle, encoding, mimeType, reportHistoryParameters, warnings, streamIDs)

With the errors

{"Default value or value provided for the report parameter 'start_date' is not a valid value. --> Default value or value provided for the report parameter 'start_date' is not a valid value. --> Default value or value provided for the report parameter 'start_date' is not a valid value."}

This is probably occuring because the date I had provided is not found in the list of dates. I really don't want to default a date at the moment, to allow the user to select a date.

So I finally gave it a date...... a valid date.

Code Snippet

Dim ReportRenderer As New RenderSQLReports

Dim Parameters() As Reportingservices.ParameterValue = New Reportingservices.ParameterValue(1) {}

Parameters(0) = New Reportingservices.ParameterValue

Parameters(0).Label = "start_date"

Parameters(0).Name = "start_date"

Parameters(0).Value = "10/1/2004 12:00:00 AM"

Parameters(1) = New Reportingservices.ParameterValue

Parameters(1).Label = "end_date"

Parameters(1).Name = "end_date"

Parameters(1).Value = "11/1/2004 12:00:00 AM"

ReportRenderer.RenderReport(Parameters, "/Folder/reportname", "pdffilename.pdf")

LO and behold, it works BUT . now i get this error in the aspx code.

Runtime error has occured.

Microsoft JScript runtime error: 'Report' is undefined

on this weird line:- (that was generated automatically)

</script><script language="javascript" type="text/javascript" src="?rs:Command=Get&amp;rc:GetImage=8.00.1038.00Report.js">

</script><script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">

<!--

function OnLoadReport()

{

var pageHits = null;

var rep = new Report(1, 16, pageHits, false, docMapIds); <-where error is occuring.

if (parent != self) parent.OnLoadReport(rep);

}

//-->

</script>

It did show the report, but I don't understand why it is still getting an error here. Moreover, I didn't even get the HTMLViewer too even when I had assigned the devinfo....

Really need some help here, as this is quite urgent.... I am at a loss at this, and maybe that there is an option that I am not seeing or something I am missing. please help .

Default Parameter Value Is No Longer Part Of Cascading Parameter In SSRS 2005?

Jan 30, 2007

Hi,

I need "conditional" cascading parameters: In Report Manager when one changes parameter 1, parameter 2 get changed based on parameter 1. Optionally, one can also enter values to parameter 2 directly.

I was able to achieve this in SSRS 2000 (SP2) with the following setups. SSRS 2005 and SP1 no longer works - Parameter 2 always shows its default value regardless whether one select a value in Parameter 1 or not.

Parameter 1
available values: from query
default values: non query (specify a value "<None>")
Parameter 2
available values: Non query (no value specified)
default values: from query (based on Parameter 1)

It seems to me that the default value in SSRS 2000 is considered as cascading parameter. But it is no longer the case in SSRS 2005.

Is this a SSRS 2005 bug? is there any other work arounds or suggestions?

Thanks.

The "n" gets wrapped to the next line. Is there a way to prevent this from happening.

SQL Server 2012 :: How To Modify ORDER BY Clause At Runtime Using Parameter

Jun 4, 2015

the code below works (this is only a quick dumbed down version of the actual code, it might not work 100% for all cases). Is it at all possible to exploit the functions that were added to SSQL since v. 2005 to simplify this code ?

In SSRS, a parameter allows the user to create a list of invoices (from CRM) to be ordered in any of the following ways the user prefers:

'Document Date (most recent date first)'
'Document Number (highest number first)'
'Document Date (most recent first) and Number'
'Document Number (lowest number first)'

The invoices have a (supposedly) sequential identity-generated number. However Accounting may want to set a different date than the creation date on some invoices. So there is no way the invoice numbers will be in the same sequence as the invoice dates.

So I just created the "sorting fields" - they appear as junk in the output dataset (just do not drop them in the SSRS tablix - they have to be part of the SELECT statement to be usable in the ORDER BY clause.

The code is:

DECLARE @ls_OrderBy varchar(80)
--'Document Number (highest number first)'
--'Customer and Document Date (most recent date first)'
--'Customer and Document Number (highest number first)'
--'Document Date (most recent first) and Number'

[code]....

Select Parameter Declaritively Set To A Public Property Value?

Oct 23, 2007

Hi,I was wondering about the possiblity of setting a SelectParameter for my SQLDataSource declaritively, using a public property value.Something like this:                 <SelectParameters>                        <asp:Parameter Name="CategoryIdLvl3" DefaultValue='<% SelectedCatLvl3%>' Type="String" />                    </SelectParameters> So the default value automically processes Public Property value of SelectdCatLvl3, which is declared in my code behind. Of course this syntax is incorrect, but if someone can help, much appreciated.I don't want to set this parameter in code behind, because I'd have to do it mulitple times, so was hoping this method would somehow work. thanks..

Integration Services :: SSIS - Connection Manager Property Not Set From Project Parameter

Oct 2, 2015

I am working with SQL Server 2012. I have deployed a SSIS project that has 2 packages in it. The package connection manager (Test) uses an expression to evaluate one of the Project parameter value (TestConnectionString) to set its ConnectionString property.

This works fine in a Dev environment. However when deployed to UAT, it keeps failing with the error:

"@[$Project::TestConnectionString]" on property
"Package.Connections[Test].Properties

I can not seem to find what the issue could be. I have come across [URL] .... where it says: "If the package contains project parameters, the package execution may fail." but offers no solution.

Passing Parameters Read From An Ini File To A Stored Procedure Within DTS Package

TableToBeCleaned_1=Transactions,24,24
TableToBeCleaned_2=Payments,24,24
TableToBeCleaned_3=PresenceTickets,24,24

As I do not know how many tables that will be declared in the ini file I have to loop through until the last parameters and pass it over to the SP.

How can I do that? Any idea?
