Please Help -- So Stuck Now -- Cant Connect To Sql From External Source
Jul 20, 2005
Hi all,
I am having real problems allowing a client to connect to sql 2000
through enterprise manager.. I have tried all sorts but to no avail:
From our local network all works fine.. Using the adsl line.. Even if
i try and connect to the external IP and use login details..(As
opposed to connecting local and using windows accounts) I can ping and
telnet the server and port.
The server is behind a firewall so i opened up port 1433 and port
1434(? is it needed).. To replicate the client i took the same laptop
home that i use to connect in the office.. However using the exact
same config on my dial up at home i can ping the server but cannot
telnet onto port 1433.. I think that this is the vital missing step
but do not know hpw to resolve it..
Is possibile configure as expression the properties XMLData and XMLdataDefinition of a "XML Source"? looking the editors it seems it is not possibile... I think it is a great limit of the component because I must hardcode the path!
Regards,
M.rkino

have setup SQL 6.5 on a machine. I have verified that port 1433 is opened for SQL. I am also using a router dell 2300. I am running Windows XP. I have set up my machine to port forward and have setup a static ip 192.168.2.136 nothing I do seems to work.
but when I try to connect to the external IP 12.xxx.xxx.xxx I get the dreaded sql does not exist error.
I can register the server by external ip. When I try to start the server I get an (RPC server unavailable) error.
I can ping the external ip.
I can telnet 192.168.2.136 1433 without error
I can connect though security manager using 12.xxx.xx.xx
I can't telnet 12.xxx.xx.xx.
I think its router but I do not know what I'm missing. I have static ip 192.68.136 set up.
Router Port Forward Settings
Service Enabled In Port Dest Addy Dest Port Type MSSQLSER Y 1433-1434 192.168.2.136 1433-1433 TCP MSSQLSER Y 1434-1434 192.168.2.136 1434-1434 UDP
I have also read that some ISP's block port 1433 due to the worm problem. So I changed the listining port from 1433 to 1971. I am still able to connect using this new port with local ip or local name. I still cannot connect to external IP. (I did change router setting to reflect new port forward to 1971)
I am not sure what I missing. Thanks in advance for any help
Hi all... Very much a newbie here to setting up SQL server, and am pulling my hair out over a problem...
I have a VPS running Win2003 64bit and have setup my ASP forum on it (I also have SQLExpress 2005 installed on the VPS) - I have a SQL DataBase running on an external server which my old host setup for me and the old forum has been using... Now all I want to do is for my ASP forum on my server to connect to this external SQL DB... How easy!? Well not for me ..
This is the error Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied
I know its my VPS causing the problem, as I asked a friend to see if he could connect to it via his server and the forum worked straight off no changes...
After some investigating I have found a few threads about advice but still cannot get it to connect to the external SQL DB (BTW I can connect to a SQL DB on my server its just externally)... This is what I have done / Checked so far..
1. I have changed the connection string to include the port number 1433 (Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=THEIPADDRESS,1433;Initial Catalog=DB;User ID=xxxxx;Password=xxxx;)
2. I can ping the IP address of the external SQL Server with no problems
3. On my server I have enabled TCP/IP in SQLExpress & added sqlservr.exe as an exception in the Firewall
4. I have even tried turning the Firewall off completely while I tried to connect - But still nothing.
If anyone can help me I would be very appreciated.... I am starting to tear my hair out as I can't think what else I need to do???
How can I move data from an external source to SQL-server 6.5.
If you for example has an oracle database on a UNIX or VMS-system and want to move table data from a table in the oracle database to the SQL-server database.
There must be plenty of tools to do that via ODBC.
We run a weekly update on one of our databases from a download (FTP) from our mainframe. What I want to do is start the update job automatically after all of the files are downloaded.
I have a similar process in another database where the users set a flag in an application after they've made certain changes. The job fires daily at 18:00 and checks the value of the flag in the table. It then processes or goes back to sleep. This works great but there is no flag that the users can update in this application.
I'm looking to create a table in SQL using data from the as/400. I need some code that extracts it from as/400 using odbc and I need it to loop and create that table every minute. The file its retrieving is a live file but not very large.. I need to basically poll the data. Does anyone have code for something like this.. thanks
I have a knowledge of SISS and CRM 3.0 but don't get any proper steps to create such Integration Service in SQL Server 2005 using CRM 3.0 as external data source.
I don't get any option of external data source for CRM.
So if anybody know about this then let me know steps to do that.
I have an XML file that my XML Source component is accessing. I have noticed that is possible to set a column in the external metadata collection to a certain datatype and the matching output column to a different datatype and this doesn't not generate a warning like it does with other source components (e.g. Flat File Source Adapter).
Try it. Set a column in your external metadata to have a datatype of DT_WSTR. Set the matching output column to DT_UI8. You will NOT get a validation error. I think you should.
This behaviour was noticed on RTM (i.e. no service pack installed) by the way.
Hopefully someone can help me with what I'm sure is a very simple question (new to the XML thing). I receive an XML file from "someplace" that I need to parse out using the XML Source in SSIS. I have SSIS generate me an XSD document, as one isn't provided for me. However, after I do this, SSIS does not show any available external columns to pull data from- the "Columns" section of the source is just blank. I'm pretty sure this has to do with a syntax error in either the XML file that is being provided to me, or the XSD doc that SSIS is generating. Below are both (obviously with data dummied up). Can someone take a look and let me what needs to be changed in either file to get this up and running? I'm looking to grab the AccountNumber, RecordNumber, ProcessedDate, Status, and StatusMessage elements.
but when I change the selected index of the listbox, then this error comes up:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException was unhandled Message="An error occured while setting up a connection with the server. At making a connection with SQL server 2005, this jamming is possibly caused by the fact that at the standardinstitutions of SQL server no external connections have been permitted (provider: Provider of named pipes, error: 40 - no connection with SQL could open server)"
If the error sounds a bit weird, sry I tried to translate as most of my errors come in my language
someone knows what the problem is and a solution to it?
(btw sry if this is in the wrong part of the sql forum, but there are so much parts, I didn't know which to choose lol )
I have a SSRS 2012 report which references a custom c# assembly.  This report exists in multiple environments (alpha, beta and  production ) which are each associated with different data sources.
Is there a way for the assembly to determine the datasource used by the calling report so it can also connect to it?
I have a SSIS package with a Data Flow task. This task transfers the data from SQL Server 2000 to a table in SQL Server 2005.
I deployed and tested this package on the Test Server. Then put this package in a job and executed it - Works fine.
On the production server- If I execute the package through DTEXECUI, it works fine. But when I try executing it through a job- the job fails and it gives me following error:
Description: The external metadata column collection is out of synchronization with the data source columns. The "external metadata column "T_FieldName" (82)" needs to be removed from the external metadata column collection....
What I don't understand is, why are there no errors displayed when I execute the package through DTEXECUI.
I am new to SSIS programming, so bear with me if my question seems naive to you gurus. I have a situation that needs to set the data source for a data flow from external .NET application ('external' means that the application will run on different process than the SSIS). I am trying to set the data source on which the data flow works from my C# application in a DataSet format. Ideal solution is not to save the DataSet to any file on harddisk (I know that will work, but has the overhead of writing, reading and managing the temp file). What I want to achive is that the business logic of picking data for SSIS Data Flow to process is controlled inside my C# application, the Data Flow just does what it does best - Transformation. Have any of you successfully done this before?. Thanks!
Hello. I€™m new to SSIS. This forum and Kirk Haselden€™s book are my teachers. I€™m having a hard time grasping something basic to get started defining a set of packages to automate the ETL process, however, and perhaps I€™m simply misunderstanding the best practices of SSIS.
I have source data in two different transactional databases, and use OleDb connection managers (and OleDb Source components in the Data Flow) to extract the data. I use a Script Task and several Lookup widgets in the Data Flow to transform the data, and output each to two different package-scope DataSet variables.
How do I join these two datasets in a third Data Flow task for loading into my data warehouse? It seems I can iterate through them in the Control Flow, but I can€™t write a query against them in the Data Flow, since there is no connection manager that allows me to €œconnect€? to a package-level variable. Should I instead be storing my extracted, transformed data in temporary database tables, and then joining these to do the final load?
Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I have several oracle reports which running in SharePoint Integrated mode. They were working well when the SharePoint server and report server in same machine. But after that the report server move out to another machine, we got the problem with connection to oracle databasen. Reports with Sql server as data source has no problem at all.
We have installa both oracle client and odp.net in both machines, and tried to give Network Service full access right in Bin catalog in oracle client but nothing helps. Please help!!!!!
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
Cannot create a connection to data source 'Ellentst'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection)
For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors
In log file:
Cannot create a connection to data source 'DatabasName'. ---> System.Exception: System.Data.OracleClient requires Oracle client software version 8.1.7 or greater.
We have installed oracle client version 10.2.0 in both machine.
I have a package that moves Interbase data over to a Sql server. All works fine but I need to supply credentials (windows not db) when connecting to the source. Right now I am creating a share on the source but I want to remove that requirement. What do use for this and where does it go in the process?
I have two servers (TESTSERVER, PRODSERVER). On the TESTSERVER i have a package that i'm using for data load from a source database on a SOURCESERVER. Everything works great until this point. Now from the PRODSERVER Â in the SSIS package i'm trying to create a connection in the connection manager to the SOURCESERVER and i'm getting the following error
Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. Login timeout expired.A network-related or instance-specific error has occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. Server is not found or not accessible. Check if instance name is correct and if SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.

I have deployed my SSAS project to an Analysis services database on a SQL 2014 server instance using the "Development" build configration in Visual Studio. In order to avoid users accessing the development instance of the cube, I've created an additional "Release" build configuration and deployed my project to a different database on the same server. I've also created a production copy of the data source and changed the data source configuration of the production cube to point to this one.
I've provided the same domain service account on the "Impersonation information" tab of the data source for both the development as well as the production instance of the cube. This account has also been granted identical permissions for both data sources. While everything works fine with the development database, processing the production database fails with an error message saying that it cannot connect to its respective data source.
I want to connect to SQLExpress database on the network. I can do so using code but I want to use the Data Source Configuration Wizard. It seems this only works for local instances of SQL server. Is this true?
I can connect just fine to the database on the network using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express...for what this is worth.
I have tried to map a drive to the SQL server machine and pick the mdf file but I get the error msg of network path is not supported for database files....I have turned on allow remote connections, allow tcp/ip, named pipes, added sqlserv.exe and sqlbrowser.exe to my firewall exceptions ect..
I want to be able to use Table Adapters, SqlDataAdapters ect. After reading numerous forum questions/ kb articles this seems to be a common problem. I am on the verge of just saying forget it and use MS Access instead.
I have two servers, DEV and PROD. Now my DEV server works just great, I can connect to the linked server, query, etc... all is well.
So I'm setting up my PROD server and when I go to add the linked server I get:
Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI".... and Unable to complete login process due to delay in opening server connection.
Now I am running SQL Server 2005 and connecting to an SQL 2000 server.
The odd part is that this works just fine on DEV.
When I go to create the linked server I set:
Linked Server: "LinkedServerName"
Server Type: "SQL Server"
and that's it.
I go to Security and enter my DOMAINUSER.ACCOUNT and then enter the login creds for the linked server.
When I click "OK" I get the above mentioned error code.
My question is what is the proper way to do this? I have been try the ways that it is instructing me to do.
By creating the name, then I go to a list of potential sources, one being: the local, then another being: the actual domain on the network, last one being: the name of the created data source. I have already tried the local & domain, I will try the last one.
But, my question is if this selection is not going to connect to SQL SERVER. Then, "What should I do within the server to make this connection possible to a client computer look for the access?"
Hello, I've created a Report Model Project that can be used by Report Builder to generate ad-hoc reports. I'm trying to create a connection string in my Report Server Project that points to the Report Model Project data source view.
All I can do is create a regular datasource, which bypasses the metadata contained in the Data Source View.
Basically I want my Report Server Project and my Report Builder reports to leverage the same metadata. Is this possible? If so how do I get the connection string?
Ok I have created a 2005 sql advanced database with text indexing. I have create the database like so created a new database with text indexing enabled and the following table create table support (problemId VARCHAR(50) NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY, problemTitle varchar(50) NOT NULL, problemBody text NOT NULL, linkOne varchar(50), linkTwo varchar(50), linkThree varchar(50), linkFour varchar(50), ftid int NOT NULL) next create fulltext catalog remoteSupportCatalog create unique index ui_remotesupport ON support (ftid) then create fulltext index on support(problemBody)key index PK__support__7C8480AE on remoteSupportCatalog -------- I then populated some rows and issues a quesry Select * from support where freetext(problemBody, 'test database') it works pulls back all the data I expected it to pull back
In my asp page I created a database connection with the folling select command <asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:rsdb2ConnectionString2 %>" SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM support WHERE FREETEXT(problemBody, @srchBox)">
created the search parameter<SelectParameters> <asp:ControlParameter ControlID="srchBox" PropertyName="Text" Type="String" Name="srchBox" /> //this is a text box that is searchable with a button </SelectParameters> and it doesnt give me back an error or data it does nothing. What am I missing?????
I hate making complecated queries....but this doesn't seem too hard and I cannot figure out where my error is. The message is "Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'FROM'."
The query is: SELECT tblUsers.lUserID GROUP BY tblUsers.lUserID HAVING Count(tblDLHistory.lDownloadID) = 0 FROM tblUsers LEFT JOIN tblDLHistory ON tblUsers.lUserID = tblDLHistory.lUserID WHERE tblDLHistory.lVersionID = 5
I need to search the database and pull up all customers who have a 'device' and their email address. I have watered down my select statement, but the following is the basics of it. I just cannot figure out how to also append the email. I have tried many different attempts and have come up dry.
Select a.company From dbo.contact1 as a, ( Select DISTINCT accountno From dbo.contsupp Where contact LIKE 'Product Inventory' AND contsupref LIKE '%device%' ) as b Where a.accountno = b.accountno
Below are some sample databases to get an idea of some possibilities. There will not always be an entry in dbo.contsupp for an email address. There will not always be an entry in dbo.contsupp for a device.
