Please Help To Assign Multiple Results Into Individual Variables, Stored Procedure
Apr 12, 2008
I have a MSSQL2000 table called partspec.dbo.location
In this table are 2 smallint columns: Tester (numbered 1-40) and Line (numbered with various integers)
I am trying to create a stored procedure to read the tester number like so:
Select Tester from partspec.dbo.location where Line = 2
which will return up to 5 tester number results, lets say 11, 12, 24, 29 ,34
My question is how do I store these tester numbers into 5 variables so that I may use them later in the sp ? So it would go something like this:
If I have multiple selects statements in one stored procedure. How do I access the different results in a report in Reporting Services? Where the first select is the detail lines of my report and the second select is just a field for a my header? Or am I going about this wrong with putting it all the results I want into one stored procedure for one report?
Example stored procedure:
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[proc_DepositsByOfficer]
As
SELECT MASTER_DSC.APP
, MASTER_DSC.BRANCH
, qlkpOfficer.strName
, MASTER_DSC.DSC_OFFICER_49
, qlkpBranchName.strDescrS
, MASTER_DSC.DSC_CUR_BAL_21
, Case MASTER_DSC.APP WHEN 1 Then DSC_CUR_BAL_21 End AS DDA_BAL
, Case MASTER_DSC.APP WHEN 2 Then DSC_CUR_BAL_21 End AS SAV_BAL
, Case MASTER_DSC.APP WHEN 3 Then DSC_CUR_BAL_21 End AS CD_BAL
, MASTER_DSC.DSC_INT_RATE_45
, Case When [DSC_CUR_BAL_21]>0 Then ([DSC_CUR_BAL_21]*[DSC_INT_RATE_45])/100 Else 0 End As ANN_EXP
, Case When [DSC_CUR_BAL_21]>0 And MASTER_DSC.APP=1 Then ([DSC_CUR_BAL_21]*[DSC_INT_RATE_45])/100 Else 0 End AS ANN_EXP_DDA
, Case When [DSC_CUR_BAL_21]>0 And MASTER_DSC.APP=2 Then ([DSC_CUR_BAL_21]*[DSC_INT_RATE_45])/100 Else 0 End AS ANN_EXP_SAV
, Case When [DSC_CUR_BAL_21]>0 And MASTER_DSC.APP=3 Then ([DSC_CUR_BAL_21]*[DSC_INT_RATE_45])/100 Else 0 End AS ANN_EXP_CD
, Case MASTER_DSC.APP WHEN 1 Then 1 End AS DDA_Count
, Case MASTER_DSC.APP WHEN 2 Then 1 End AS SAV_Count
, Case MASTER_DSC.APP WHEN 3 Then 1 End AS CD_Count
, qlkpApplicationCode.strDescrS AS strApplCode
FROM
MASTER_DSC
INNER JOIN qlkpApplicationCode ON MASTER_DSC.APP=qlkpApplicationCode.dblReference
LEFT JOIN qlkpOfficer ON MASTER_DSC.DSC_OFFICER_49=qlkpOfficer.intID

A login named UserLogin1 has db_dataReader and db_dataWriter roles, and three schemas which are db_owner, dbUser1, and dbUser2 in a database named Database1. I wanted to have some tables for read-only, so I right clicked on the table and select properties. In the Permissions tab, I added UserLogin1 and checked Alter, Delete, Insert, Take Ownership, and Update under Deny. It worked for schema dbo only. I did the same steps for the tables that have schema dbUser1 or dbUser2, but UserLogin1 I added didn't stay. Why? How can I make those tables read-only?
I have a report based on our product names that consists of two parts. Both insert data into a temporary table.1. A single grouped set of results based on all products2. Multiple tables based on individual product names.I am getting data by calling the same stored procedure multipletimes... for the single set of data I use "product like '%'"To get the data for individual products, I am using a cursor to parsethe product list. It's working great except that I have no idea how to identify theresults short of including a column with the product name. While thatis fine, I'm wondering if there is something that is like a header ortitle that I could insert prior to generating the data that would looka little tighter. Thanks in advance-DanielleJoin Bytes!
I am calling stored procedure called GetCommonItemCount within another stored procedure called CheckBoxAvailability, the first stored procedure should return a count to second stored procedure and based on that some logic will be executed.
I have 2 problems in that
1. The result is not coming from first stored so the variable called @Cnt is always 0 although it should be 18 2. At the end i need to see in the output the result from second stored procedure only while now i am seeing multiple results of record sets coming.
I have attached the scripts also, the line i described in step1 is
Hi, I have a web form that lets users search for people in my database they wish to contact. The database returns a paged set of results using a CTE, Top X, and Row_number(). I would like to give my users to option of removing individual people from this list but cannot find a way to do this. I have tried creating a session variable with a comma delimited list of ID's that I pass to my sproc and use in a NOT IN() statement. But I keep getting a "Input string was not in a correct format." Error Message. Is there any way to do this? I am still new to stored procedures so any advice would be helpful. Thanks
Hello,I am currently trying to assign some string to a TEXT output parameterof a stored procedure. The basic structure of the stored procedure looks like this:-- 8< --CREATE PROCEDURE owner.StoredProc(@blob_data image,@clob_data text OUTPUT)ASINSERT INTO Table (blob_data, clob_data) VALUES (@blob_data, @clob_data);GO-- 8< --My previous attempts include using the convert function to convert astring into a TEXT data type:SET @clob_data = CONVERT(text, 'This is a test');Unfortunately, this leads to the following error: "Error 409: Theassignment operator operation cannot take a text data type as an argument."Is there any alternative available to make an assignment to a TEXToutput parameter?Regards,Thilo
I have a simple Execute DTS task which uses ADO.NET connection to update variable........and get the following error.
Variable:
@msg string
Query:
Select @msg = 'Invalid Process Dates'
[Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query "Select @msg = 'Invalid Process Dates'" failed with the following error: "The incoming tabular data stream (TDS) remote procedure call (RPC) protocol stream is incorrect. Parameter 3 ("@msg"): Data type 0xE7 has an invalid data length or metadata length.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
Any one has clue how to fix it? I could use the OLEDB connection to get it work but I need to use ADO.NET. Any help will be appreciated.
Hi! I am kind of new to the sequel server and I have to write a stored procedure to create raw of my table. I wrote the following stored procedures, but I am not sure weather I can use variables in select statements as in the following procedure. Could you please explain what is the problem, why I am getting an error, when I am trying to create it? <The error says that there is an incorrect syntax near '@tbleName' in lines 21, 25 and 30>
Thank you very much! Elly.

I am writing a stored procedure that basically gets a whole lot of info. Simple enough... that part works. Now I want to add functionality to pass in sortBy and direction variables so the results can be sorted from a web page. The code I have is:
Code:
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON GO SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO
ALTER procedure GetRecruiterApplicants @useridvarchar(50), @trackerGroup varchar(50), @sortBy varchar(20), @dir varchar(5)
as begin
set nocount on
SELECT C.USERID INTO #VU FROM VUSERS V WITH (NOLOCK), COMPANIES C WITH (NOLOCK) WHERE CHARINDEX(','+C.USERID+',', ','+VUSERS+',')>0 AND V.USERID=@userid UNION SELECT @userid
SELECT distinct l.AccessCode, l.ApplicantGivenName, l.ApplicantFamilyName, l.DateCreated, l.DateApplicantAccessed, p.ApplicationTitle, l.disabled FROM chamslinks l, chamsProjectIDs p, chamsGroups g WHERE l.TrackerID IN (SELECT userid FROM #VU) AND g.trackerGroup = @trackerGroup AND p.groupTblID = g.groupTblID AND p.ProjectID = l.ProjectID ORDER BY l.@sortBy @dir
DROP Table #VU
set nocount off end
The error I am getting is: "Server: Msg 170, Level 15, State 1, Procedure GetRecruiterApplicants, Line 24 Line 24: Incorrect syntax near '@dir'."

Seems like I'm stealing all the threads here, : But I need to learn :) I have a StoredProcedure that needs to return values that other StoredProcedures return.Rather than have my DataAccess layer access the DB multiple times, I would like to call One stored Procedure, and have that stored procedure call the others to get the information I need. I think this way would be more efficient than accessing the DB multiple times. One of my SP is:SELECT I.ItemDetailID, I.ItemDetailStatusID, I.ItemDetailTypeID, I.Archived, I.Expired, I.ExpireDate, I.Deleted, S.Name AS 'StatusName', S.ItemDetailStatusID, S.InProgress as 'StatusInProgress', S.Color AS 'StatusColor',T.[Name] AS 'TypeName', T.Prefix, T.Name AS 'ItemDetailTypeName', T.ItemDetailTypeID FROM [Item].ItemDetails I INNER JOIN Item.ItemDetailStatus S ON I.ItemDetailStatusID = S.ItemDetailStatusID INNER JOIN [Item].ItemDetailTypes T ON I.ItemDetailTypeID = T.ItemDetailTypeID However, I already have StoredProcedures that return the exact same data from the ItemDetailStatus table and ItemDetailTypes table.Would it be better to do it above, and have more code to change when a new column/field is added, or more checks, or do something like:(This is not propper SQL) SELECT I.ItemDetailID, I.ItemDetailStatusID, I.ItemDetailTypeID, I.Archived, I.Expired, I.ExpireDate, I.Deleted, EXEC [Item].ItemDetailStatusInfo I.ItemDetailStatusID, EXEC [Item].ItemDetailTypeInfo I.ItemDetailTypeID FROM [Item].ItemDetails IOr something like that... Any thoughts?
I am taking my first steps into stored procedures and I am working on a solution for efficiently paging large resultsets with SQL Server 2000 based on the example on 4Guys: http://www.4guysfromrolla.com/webtech/042606-1.shtml The problem with my stored procedure is, is that it doesn't seem to recognize a variable (@First_Id) in my dynamic Sql. With this particular sproc I get the error message: "Must declare the scalar variable '@First_Id'"It seems to be a problem with 'scope', though I still can't yet figure out. Can anyone give me some hints on how to correctly implement the @First_Id in my stored procedure? Thanks in advance! SELECT * FROM Cards WHERE CASE @Type = 1111 THEN CardType = 1111 ELSE CardType = 2222 END

I know that the part after WHERE is wrong. But what I would like to achieve is this:
if the @type variable equals 1111 then get alla the rows with that value in the CardType-column. The same if @type = 2222, and if @type is any other value, then choose all rows regardles of the CardType value.
I want to convert a SQL query as shown below into a stored procedure:
select name from namelist where town in ('A','B','D')
If I want to make the town as the input variable into the stored procedure, how should I declare the stored procedure? As far as I know, stored procedure could only handle individual values, and not a range of values.
I am using a table variable inside a stored procedure that I am trying to execute from an OLE Datasource task in IS. I know there was a problem doing this in DTS, which would result in an Invalid Pointer error. I am not getting that error, but I am getting an error that says "[OLE DB Source [55]] Error: A rowset based on the SQL command was not returned by the OLE DB provider." The stored procedure runs fine on it's own.
I have a stored procedure. Into this stored procedure i need to pass values to a 'IN' statement from asp.net. So when i am passing it , it should b in like a string variable with the ItemIds separated by commas. the procedure i have is :
create procedure SelectDetails @Id string as Select * from DtTable where itemid in(@Id)
Here the itemid field in DtTable is of type int. Now when i execute the produre it is showing error as the Itemid is int and i am passing a string value to it. How can i solve this problem?
I have a foreach loop in my SSIS script. I am able to successfully enumerate through an input query. I have a script task inside of my container. I would like to use this task to formulate a Stored Procedure and save this procedrue in a variable so I can use in a future Execute SQL task.
Here is a copy of the code (Which Does Not Work) I am using in the script task to set the variables.
Here is the scenario, I have 2 stored procedures, SP1 and SP2
SP1 has the following code:
declare @tmp as varchar(300) set @tmp = 'SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET ( ''SQLOLEDB'', ''SERVER=.;Trusted_Connection=yes'', ''SET FMTONLY OFF EXEC ' + db_name() + '..StoredProcedure'' )'
EXEC (@tmp)
SP2 has the following code:
SELECT * FROM SP1 (which won't work because SP1 is a stored procedure. A view, a table valued function, or a temporary table must be used for this)
Views - can't use a view because they don't allow dynamic sql and the db_name() in the OPENROWSET function must be used. Temp Tables - can't use these because it would cause a large hit on system performance due to the frequency SP2 and others like it will be used. Functions - My last resort is to use a table valued function as shown:
FUNCTION MyFunction ( ) RETURNS @retTable ( @Field1 int, @Field2 varchar(50) ) AS BEGIN -- the problem here is that I need to call SP1 and assign it's resulting data into the -- @retTable variable
-- this statement is incorrect, but it's meaning is my goal INSERT @retTableSELECT *FROM SP1
Hi, I need to include two input variables in my Order By Clause in a stored procedure like ORDER BY @column @Dirction. But MS SQL does not allow me to do so and gives an Error 1008. How can i solve this problem?
HiI've heard 2 things recently, can I confirm if their true/false?(1) If you have a stored procedure and you want to optimise it you cancall exec proc1,you could also use define/set for each of the variables and copy thecode into query analyser, this then makes it easier to tune. However the optimiser worksdifferently for these variables than it does for variables passed intothe query via exec and will produce a less optimalplan(2) There is a different optimiser used in query analyser than thatused otherwise? A colleaguehad a problem where a stored procedure called from dotnet code wasrunning slowly butone run from query analyser via exec, with exactly the same arguments, was running quicklyta

I have an aggregate transform that outputs two columns, a group by (DT_STR) and a count(column name) (DT_UI8). The results are put into a Recordset Destination. When I attempt to map these columns to variables in a Foreach Loop Container (using a Foreach ADO Enumerator), I get the error:

The variable mentioned in the error message is setup as a UInt64. I've tried all other integer data types and nothing works. I also tried changing the data type of the count coming out of the Aggregate transform but received a warning stating this isn't possible.
I have a stored procedure where I gather some data and then insert the data into a table variable. Thanks
