SQL Express Install Fails Error 29503 / 1067
Sep 15, 2006I have read carefully numerous previous posts on similar errors. So far I've ruled out:
1. I have an Athlon processor with cache prefetching XP 1700+
2. I have tried installing with advanced options and selecting local sytem and local service.
None of these solutions solved my problem. I still get the same install error and it's quite maddening, since the install program verifies that all of my hardware and software meet the install conditions. I am running XP home, so I'm in a workgroup, not a domain.. I attach the log for the install below.
Any more suggestions?

Install Problem Error 29503 && 1067 OR Error 29503 && 2146885628
Aug 28, 2007I'm new with development and just wanted to get the Personal Website Sample to work. So far, I'm have am having a terrible time installing SQL Express Edition. I'm not exactly sure what to do next. I have installed, manually uninstalled, and reinstalled many times. Sometimes I get error 29503 & 1067. Other times when I reinstall I get 29503 & -2146885628 . Here's the info I got so far for my 29503&1067 since that error occurs 95% of time. I believe I got the -2146885628 error when I changed a setting from network to local services.
I feel so confused right now. Any help would be appreciative.

SQL Server 2005 Fails To Install (Err: 29503)

After a carefull reading of several post about this error I decided to post mine just in case it gives some clue to somebody with the knowledge I haven´t as I saw there is two kind of customers with this or very similar errors:
1. Some of them finally had success (error: 15209) installing it following the instructions in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920114/en-us
2. Some still fighting with the problem (err: 29503).
Both errors give the same instructions, to my understand (very poor) and I followed every suggestion, but let me do some history:
1. I have 3 computers at home, all them from different makers and XP bundled on them, now all them SP2 thanks to the Updates service.
2. One has nothing extra on it. Used only to surf the net/play games and nothing more (Wife). One for work (Mine and Main), with VS 2005, Intel Pentium IV HT 3 Ghz and a Toshiba laptop with VS2005 and the same processor with not problems at all.
3. Due to former issues installing SQL server in Mine I decided finally to start from scratch, so I formatted the disk, installed XP and downloaded SP 2 and all automatic updates, then installed VS 2005 Standard and got exactly the same issue as before.
Sorry to make it long. The point is that following the instructions in MS KB documents and several posts to the letter I found out several strange things:
1. None of my computers is able to show an Address bar in Windows Explorer, when checked to be shown only produces a new greyed item in the icons bar at the very right end. If pressing F11 (full screen) then the address bar is shown and can be used.
2. Only the laptop had a folder named Protect in the indicated path.
3. None of them shows a Security tab in the Properties window of any folder or file.
4. In this thread http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=841859&SiteID=1 I thought at the very last post was the solution for my issue but then I found out another strange story: None of my computer have the "Simple file sharing" or "Use Simple file sharing" in the View label of Folder Options.
5. And this is possible the final clue: When examining the options in View label I realized that all the optios were related in my mother tongue (Spanish) whils the rest of the window was in English as I live in England and nearly all my software is in this language. 7. The only difference between my laptop and desktop computers is that in regional settings Laptop has English for Regional options whilst desktop had Spanish.
Tried to change in desktop to English wont produce success installing SQL Server Express so I think there are more deep changes/corrections to do.
Those changes from English to Spanish is some XP windows are not coming from the first install, as the laptop came installed, so they should be produced after some upgrade were I was offered to download a regional version (SP 2?).
Hopefully this long post will give to some body with more brains and knowledge than me to get a work around to this problem, other than reformat, install and download SP 2 this time in English.

Unable To Re-install SQL Server 2005 Express And Also SQL Express Toolkit

I had some issues on my server and had to uninstall .Net Framework 2.0, SQL Server 2005 Express, and SQL Express Toolkit. I installed SQL Server 2005 Express and it seemed to be ok.
Then my problems all started when I tried to install SQL Express Toolkit because I needed to install DTS Wizard again, and it errors out and wouldn't let me install it. So I uninstalled everything that's listed above again.
I then tried to install SQL Server 2005 Express again, and on the second from last screen, while its listing all the components and configuring them, I get the following error as it's configuring the last component... which was the SQL Server Database Services.

How To Set Up SQL Server 2005 Express After Install VS 2008 Express
May 7, 2008I installed VS 2008 Express with an option to download SQL Server 2005 Express. I noticed there is a '90' folder under my Microsoft SQL Server folder. I assumed this the folder for SQL Server 2005 Express.
How do I set up my SQL Server2005 Express, so that I can use some sample databases for my VS 2008 Express? Any difference for SQL Server 2005 Express between VS 2008 Expressdownload and SQL Server 2005 Express download?

Errors Installing SQL Server Express 2005
Feb 6, 2006I've been having horrific problems installing and working with SQL Server Express 2005. I installed SSE with the Visual Web Developer tool so I assumed that the instance would synch up; but it didn't (see log contents at end) so I opened up permissions wide open to all users, and even that didn't help. I don't know for sure but I suspect that the problem probably relates to my deleting SQL Server entries from the registry and all directories and files related to it on disk. After going through the process of uninstalling and reinstalling Express 2005 numerous times, I became frustrated and decided to pull out all stops.
After reading and following all MSDN instructions and every blog and forum I could possibly locate on the subject, I could never resolve the problem of not reaching my database. I enabled all pipes and TCP/IP, etc. in the Configuration Manager, in both instances I had created; had run all command-line procedures recommended; and used cleanup programs that I could find, before reinstalling. I couldn't even get success in doing a test connection. I did get to a point where my ASP returned the message that it had connected but that the user didn't have permissions.
I think I'm destined to working with Access, which is a shame since I have encouraged students in a Web development class I teach to work with the more powerful SQL Server products. They've had success with SQL Server, so I'm setting a bad example.

May 10, 2006The program shortcut "Visual Studio 2005 Command Prompt" seems to be mising from the "Visual Studio 2005 Command Prompt" Start menu added by the current Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Toolkit. Where is it? How to workaround?
I am trying to do Download details SQL Server 2005 Samples and Sample Databases (April 2006) -> GettingStartedWithSQLSamples.htm which says "a. Open a Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 command prompt. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, point to Visual Studio Tools, and then click Visual Studio 2005 Command Prompt." but I can find no such command prompt within "Visual Studio Tools", only "Visual Studio 2005 Remote Debugger{, Configuration Wizard}".
What's wrong? How to fix or workaround? I'd install .NET SDK 2.0 to get it's Command Prompt but that's about 570MB merely for a command prompt!

Dec 20, 2006I'm trying to install sql server 2005 and to be honest, I've had an absolute gutful.
I All i want to do is use it to develop my asp.net applications but everytime i set a profile variable or access the "security" tab in my asp.net web site administration tool, I get sql errors.
I've googled the *** out of my issue and have come to no helpful conclusion. I've been through the surface configuration to 'allow remote connections' even though i'm ON THE LOCAL MACHINE and it still errors and tells me its not accepting remote connections.
I've formatted windows to make sure, and tried again- same error, not to mention the frustration of having to manually extract the contents of the .exe file that i downloaded (From no other then microsoft.com).
will somebody please shed some light on this piece of junk program so i can do my development without tearing my hair out.

Can't Install SQL Server Express 2005
Mar 31, 2008I get the fault message Error 29503 during the installation when the installation program wan't to start the SQL server
Nothing I do can get the installation to pass this point. I can how ever start the server from the RUN command with

When I have to cancel since the server don't start the installation make a rollback and remove the SQLservr.exe etc.
I have a new laptop and want to install the SQL server express instead of MSDE2000 I have been using
The laptop is protected by SafeGuard easy but that it has been all the time even when MSDE2000 was installed.

Cannot Install SQL Server 2005 Express

Whole installation works fine until it comes to "Selected components are being configured" and there it shows:
MSXML6 - Setup FAILED. refer to the Setup log for details.
SQL Setup support files - Setup FINISHED.
SQL Native Client - Setup FINISHED.
SQL VSS Writter - - Setup FINISHED.
SQL Server Database Services - Setup FAILED. refer to the Setup log for details
And that's it. I cannot install SQL Server 2005 express.
I guess the problem is MSXML6 it cannot install because there is a newer version already there but I cannot uninstall it. How can I solve this problem ??

I am trying to install sql server express with advanced services and I can't get any further than this message:

Jul 25, 2006Okay, this must be the silliest question of the day. I downloaded SSE, but when it ran, it noted that I needed Win 3.1 Installer. Went and got that, installed it, and restarted. But where is my SSE download? I tried to go back to the SSE download, but it won't download the file again. Nothing happens when I click on the download link.

SQL Server Express 2005 Install Failure
Aug 21, 2007I am attempting to install SQL Server express on an XP (SP2) machine with a Pentium processor. The .NET framework version is 2.0. All previous versions of SQL server and related components have been uninstalled, and all related files deleted. Also, during installation, I installed SQL Express using the local service account (vs. network service) per a suggestion in a related thread. I have installed/unistalled numerous times, and continue to receive the same error. At this point, this is becoming a critical issue related to a client ASP.NET application using a SQL express 2005 database. I was hoping by now that MS would have released a new version or patch that would solve this problem, but that does not seem to be the case, that I'm aware of.
