I cannot create a measure that returns results for dates that do not exist in the fact table despite the fact that the components included in the measure contain valid results for these same dates.Creature a measure that counts the number of days where the "stock qty" is below the "avg monthly sales qty for the last 12 months" (rolling measure).Here is the DAX code I have tried for the measure (note that filter explicitly refers to the date table (called Calendar) and not the fact table):
StkOutCnt:=CALCULATE (
COUNTROWS ( VALUES ( Calendar[DateKey] ) ),
FILTER (
Calendar,
[Stock qty] < [Avg Monthly Sales Qty L12M@SKU]
)
)
Below you can see the sub measures (circled in red) are giving results for all days in the calendar.Highlighted in yellow are dates for which the StkOutCnt measure is not returning a result. Having investigated these blank dates, I am pretty confident that they are dates for which there are no transactions in the fact table (weekends, public holidays etc...).why I am getting an "inner join" with my fact table dates despite the fact that this is not requested anywhere in the dax code and that the two sub measures are behaving normally?

I am developing a database in PowerPivot and I am wondering how to create many relationships between the same 2 tables. All relationships must be active.
Let me give you a DUMMY example: let's say that the database has 2 tables, the Employee table and Manager table:
->Employee Table: Employee_name, Previous_Manager, Current_Manager
->Manager Table: Manager_Name
Because I have 2 manager fields in the employee table, I need to create 2 links between the employee and manager tables:
-> Link 1: Previous_Manager ---- Manager_Name
-> Link 2: Current_Manager ---- Manager_Name
Right now, one of the links is inactive...
Is there a way in PowerPivot to create 2 active links like that ?
I have Power Pivot version 11.0.3000.0 on Excel 2010 on Windows 7

I have two tables in my data model,
1. Fact table with sales by customer, Territory ID etc
2. Table with targets per Territory ID
I want two combine them in one pivot table.
Pivot: Territory;Sales;Target
What I'm getting is the correct column with sales, but the overall sum of all territories in column for targets.Relationship is established between two tables via Territory ID

I have four tables with relationships as shown. They have a circular relationship and so one of the relationships is forced to be inactive.
Operation (Commodity, OperationKey) ==========>
Commodity (Commodity)
/
/
|
|
Advice (OperationKey) ====== (inactive)=======>
Operation Commmodity (Commodity, OperationKey)
I have the following measure:
Advice No. Commodity:=CALCULATE (
COUNTROWS ( 'Advice' ),
USERELATIONSHIP(Advice[OperationKey],'Operation Commodity'[OperationKey]),
operation
)
However, the userelationship function does not override the active relationship between Operation & Advice and so the measure is limited to Advices directly filtered by the Operation table.
If I delete the relationship between Operation and Advice, then the measure works as expected i.e. Operation indirectly filters Operation Commodity which filters Advice.

I am bring two fact tables and a Date Dim into my Power Pivot model. I try to create relationship where but Power Pivot just reverses them. When I create the relationship I get an info icon warning me it will be changed.Why can't I create a one to many relationship with fact table on many side and dimension on one side?Power Pivot will not let me mark my dimCalnder as a date table either. My date dim has surrogate key, year, month and monthlongname columns only...

I have 2 excel tables files.One table has info about sales by country, by model, by date...and the other table has units by date.Obviously, the common key is "date"....and by creating a relationship, I can add "units" to my combined resulting table.However, I can't create the relationship. Excel keeps telling me: "the relationship cannot be created because each column contains duplicate values. Select at least one column that contains only unique values".

I have several reports in a Power View Gallery. In Gallery view, most of the reports show the "Open New Excel Workbook", the "Create Power View Report", and the "Manage Data Refresh" buttons on the right side of the report list. Why would some reports not have these buttons available? In the attached image you can see one report with the buttons and one without the buttons.

I have two data tables:
1) Production data with column headers: Key, Facility, Line, Time, Output
2) Costs data with column headers: Key, Site, Cost Center, Time, Cost
The tables have a common key named obviously as Key. The data looks like this:
Key
Facility
Line
Time
Output
Alpha
I would like to have two pivot tables which I can filter with ONE slicer based on the column Key. The first pivot table shows row labels Facility, Line and column labels Time. Value field is Output. The second pivot table shows row labels Site, Cost Center, and column lables Time. Value field is Cost.How can I do this with Power Pivot? I tried by linking both tables above to a table with unique Keys in PowerPivot and then creating a PivotTable where I would have used the Key from the Keys table.

We are trying to do some utilization calculations that need to factor in a given number of holiday hours per month.
I have a date dimension table (dimdate). Has a row for every day of every year (2006-2015)
I have a work entry fact table (timedetail). Has a row for every work entry. Each row has a worked date, and this column has a relationship to dimdate.
Our holidays fluctuate, and we offer floating holidays that our staff get to pick. So we cannot hard code which individual dates in dimdate as holidays. So what we have done is added a column to our dimdate table called HolidayHoursPerMonth.
This column will list the number of holiday hours available in the given month that the individual date happens to fall within, thus there are a lot of duplicates. Below is a brief example of dimdate. In the example below, there are 0 holiday hours for the month of June, and their are 8 holiday hours for the month of July.
DateKey MonthNumber HolidayHoursPerMonth
6/29/2015 6 0
6/30/2015 6 0
7/1/2015 7 8
7/2/2015 7 8
I have a pivot table create based of the fact table. I then have various date slicers from the dimension table (i.e. year, month). If I simply drag this column into the pivot table and summarize by MAX it works when you are sliced on a single month, but breaks if anything but a single month is sliced on.
I am trying to create a measure that calculates the amount of holiday hours based on the what's sliced, but only using a single value for each month. For example July should just be 8, not 8 x #of days in the month.
Listed below is how many hours per month. So if you were to slice on an entire year, the measure should equal 64. If you sliced on Jan, Feb and March, the measure should equal 12. If you were to slice nothing, thus including all 15 years in our dimdate table, the measure should equal 640 (10 years x 64 hours per year).
MonthNumberOfYear HolidayHoursPerMonth
1 8
2 4
3 0
4 0
5 8
6 0
7 8
8 0
9 8
10 4
11 16
12 8

I have a simple pivot table (screenshot below) that has two variables on it: one for entry year and another for 6 month time intervals. I have very simple DAX functions that count rows to determine the population N (denominator), the number of records in the time intervals (numerator) and the simple percent of those two numbers.
The problem that I am having is that the function for the population N is not overriding the time interval on the pivot table when I use an ALL function to do so. I use ALL in other very simple pivot tables to do the same thing and it works fine.
The formula for all three are below, but the one that is the issue is the population N formula. Why ALL would not work, any other way to override the time period variable on the pivot table.
Population N (denominator):
=CALCULATE(COUNTROWS(analyticJudConsist),ALL(analyticJudConsist[CurrentTimeInCare1]))
Records in time interval (numerator):
=COUNTROWS(analyticJudConsist)
Percent:
=[countrows]/[denominatorCare]

I have simple pivot table (below screenshot with info redacted) that displays a population number ("N" below), this is the denominator, a cumulative numerator number (below "#") and a simple cumulative percent that just divides the numerator by the denominator. It cumulates from top to bottom. The numerator and percent are cumulative using the below functions. There are two problems with the numerator and percent:
1. When there is not a number for the numerator, there is no value displayed for both the numerator and the percent..There should be a zero displayed for both values.
2. When there has been a prior number for the numerator and percent (for a prior month interval) but there is no number for the numerator in the current month interval, the prior month number and percent are not displayed in the current month interval--see the 3rd yellow line, this should display "3" and "16.7%" from the second yellow line.Here is the formula for the numerator:
=CALCULATE(count(s1Perm1[entity_id]),FILTER(ALL(s1Perm1[ExitMonthCategory]),s1Perm1[ExitMonthCategory] <= MAX(s1Perm1[ExitMonthCategory])))
Here is the formula for the percent:
=(CALCULATE(countrows(s1Perm1),FILTER(ALL(s1Perm1[ExitMonthCategory]),s1Perm1[ExitMonthCategory] <= MAX(s1Perm1[ExitMonthCategory]))))/(CALCULATE(COUNTROWS(s1Perm1),ALL(s1Perm1[Exit],s1Perm1[ExitMonthCategory])))

[Code] ....
This returns a dataset, that I need to convert into a PIVOT table that should look like the attached spreadsheet.
Having trouble writing the PIVOT table query. I feel like I am missing something conceptually as I am not doing any summing or aggregation. I don't know if dynamics SQL is the solution here or which route to take. I don't know if there is such things as PIVOTING without aggregation. CROSS TAB came to my mind as well.

I have data in my Powerpivot window which was generated by a sql query. This data includes a field named 'Cost' and every row shows a value for 'Cost' greater than zero. The problem is that when I display this data in the pivot table all entries for Cost display as $0. At first I thought that maybe Cost was set to a bogus data type (such as 'text) but it is set to ''Decimal Number' so that's not the problem.
What is happening and how do I fix it so that my pivot table reflects the values for 'Cost'?

I am using excel 2010 and creating pivot table from Power Pivot. I created a pivot table with department slicers. All is good, the problem I am having is whilst in an unfiltered position (ALL) of the slicers (departments) I get 200 pages, now when I click on a given department with say 10 pages, I still get the same 200 pages with the first 10 pages showing the data from the clicked department and 190 blank pages.
All I want is to get a WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) of what is on the screen as my print, but I am getting extra blank pages right after the data. How do I resolve this.
Below are the steps I go thru to print
1. Select slicers in unfiltered position (ALL)
2. Select entire pivot table
3. Select Page layout and select print area.
4. Save
5. Click on Print Preview to preview the print
6. Click on a given department in the slicer and repeat item 5, but this gives me blank pages after the data.
Do I need any other step?

I have a table with date in the following format:
orderID | dateOrdered | customerID
101 | 01/01/2015 | 1
102 | 02/02/2015 | 2
103 | 05/06/2015 | 3
I need to create a measure that tells me how many customer's placed an order in the previous 91 days of any given date, not necessarily today.
So, if you imagine a PivotTable which has a series of dates down the left hand side and 'totalNoCustomersLast60Days' as the only column, I need each day to tell me how many customers ordered in the x number of days.
For example if we say 60 days my table would look like the following:
Each row in this table would be telling me that "x number of customers placed orders within the period 60 days prior to,and including, the date on the left".
I have tried numerous ways of doing this and despite thinking it should be incredible simple it eludes me.

I am trying to calculate how much revenue we may get, based on potential new business opportunities. The core fields we have are
Total Contract Value ($ or £)Duration of contract (months)Revenue start dateVarious information about the new business - ID, Title, Customer etc.
We can easily calculate the revenue per month with "Total Contract value divide by duration".
However what I would really like to do is be able to know how much revenue we will be getting each month.
To do this I was thinking we should probably create a new row for each month entry, with the mm-yyyy being the only difference for each row. But how to create the appropriate months and the correct amount of rows.

So, I have the following tables
transactions = [date], errorID, status
calendar = [date], year, month etc .
The critical field here is errorID.
Maybe the best way to illustrate the raw transaction data is by example :
I now need to create a report to show the AGE of errors.
age1 = days since first occurrence
age2 = days since last 'Repeat' status
I tried to ignore AGE for now, and just see if I could get the correct earliest date to show for each errorID.
How to do a MIN on date, ignoring all row context apart from keeping my errorID !!?!

Creating a burn down chart using a running total of cumulative hours with the following formula:
CumulativeHoursLeft:=CALCULATE (
SUM('Projects'[Budget hours]) - SUM ( 'hours'[Hours] ),
FILTER (

'hours'[Date] <= MAX ('hours'[Date])

Works great except that in a Line Chart using [Date] as the Axis and CumulativeHoursLeft as the value, I get these spikes on days for which the employee reported no hours. I do know what exactly the measure is doing in this instance and I do not get this in a table, those dates simply do not appear. I have tried both Categories and Continuous for the Line Chart. I have also tried filtering where [Date] is not blank.how to get rid of the spikes?

JobOrderId CandidateId From_StatusID From_StatusDate To_StatusID
1234 5000 1 07/01/2015 2
1234 5000 2 08/01/2015

Is it possible to do something like this using DAX? Do I need to create a calculated Column?

I have an Excel 2010 Pro pivot table that uses a Power Pivot view sourced to a SQL Server 2012 SQL view. This view contains multiple date fields, and when I attempt to use the 'Value Filter' on one of these, the data is not filtering. The data type in the SQL view is a date.
After attempting to set a Value Filter, and seeing that the filtering didn't work, when I go back to the Value Filter criteria (in my case, I used 'Greater Than' option), the date value that I plugged in to filter has been replaced with a numeric value.

I work in a medical facility and and client confidentiality prevents loading my pivot tables to sharepoint at this time.
I am creating several reports that combine data from SQL Server, Cerner medical report DB and some lookup tables in Excel.
Everything works great on my desktop but I'm having trouble sharing my work.
Our normal routine is to drop a copy of our excel files in a Pass through file on the server that has strict access controls.
I think my main problem is my supervisor doesn't have powerpivot on his machine. that will be corrected tomorrow.
My question is: When close your powerpivot workbook, do all the connections go with it. If I just drop myproject.xlsx into the pass through will all the links to the varying data sources still be available?

I have a fact table with sales data at line item level, meaning lots of rows with sales orders, revenue etc. per product group pr month. Then I have a budget table with the budgetted revenue pr product group pr month, meaning a lot less detailed. I followed the method at daxpatterns.com/budget-patterns/ with the headline "Complete pattern" to make it work. Now I have a working data model where I can see actual and budget as seperate values.
I then need to calculate the actual revenue month to date and the budgetted revenue month to date. For actual it has worked fine by doing:
=CALCULATE(
sum(Sales[Revenue]);
(DatesMTD(Time[date]))
)
The problem occurs for me doing the same on the budget figure. Since I don't have a budget per day, but only at "YearMonth" level, I have calculated the amount of workdays per month and then used the DatesMTD formula to get the cumulative workdays during the month. Furthermore I calculated the total amount of workdays in the month and made a ratio between this figure and the cumulative workdays so I get a figure in percent that tells me per day how much of the month that has went by (0-100 %). I would then multiply this percentage with the budget and get the budget month to date. This does not work since my budget figure is not at day level.
How I can get it to work. My desired result will be all the dates during a month in my rows and then actual revenue Month to date in values and a corrosponding figure for the budget.
