Powerful Search Technique..

Apr 14, 2007

hello.

How to do Search in the method which is done in MSDN library 2005 (local application)?

i.e enabling a search filter and then (most incredibly) as you type the criteria, the
list gets updated depending on the characters entered.

for eg. you type: loo
and obtain the following display:
Look in dialog box
Look tab
lookaheads
l
l
l
l
l
l
l
l
l
l
l
l
l

How to use this fast searching technique in vb.net 2005 and the items to be searched in
sql server 2005 express??

Creating A Powerful Search Procedure For My Site

Apr 7, 2008

Hi,
I need to implement a search procedure for my site that is able to traverse so many tables for results but at the same time making sure not to expose information that is sensitive and I sort of need help to do this as I have not actually done one as big as this one. I need to go through data on Petitions, users, schools and so many other tables in my database to find strings that match the search criteria but I am also conscious that this may cause some security problems with the way I think of it now and i was wondering if any one has a better idea on how to write a search procedure to allow user's to search my site for information.
Thanks in Advance

I have a MS SQL database that is used with my Web site. I want to enable simple search capability where one or more words could be entered in a text box and have it search certain columns in my database for occurrences of those words. I've never done this before and so I'm not sure how to get started. Can someone help me begin? Thanks!

Indexing - Is It Powerful?

Jan 2, 2008

If you put an index on an integer type column named 'test_column' in a table that had 1,000,000,000 rows in it, and you said select top 50 * from test_table WHERE test_column = 1 since 'test_column' has an index, that would perform extremly fast wouldn't it?  Cheers

Transfer Over To More Powerful Backend Due To Need For Larger Size Capacity

Mar 27, 2012

I have an existing Access database that I need to transfer over to a more powerful back-end due to the need for larger size capacity. We need to be able to have a backend that can exist up to just about any size due to us scanning in documents by ODBC. With Access I know I was limited to about 4gb size and when split onto my current SQL server I have heard I will be stuck at 10gb? If so can you recommend a better backend, but my question is about the front end. I hear Windows WPF can be linked into SQL server but does this limit the size as well?

Access 2000 Queries Performing Slower On More Powerful Server

Jun 27, 2001

Hi,

We have recently upgraded our production server from a dual pentium II 400mhz server with 384Mb of RAM to a triple 700mhz Pentium III system with 2gb of RAM . However, since switching over, all of our Access queries on the SQL7 databases are either running extremely slowly or not at all despite the DSN's being set up correctly . Does anyone have any ideas why, and more importantly, how I can resolve this???

Query Help / Capability

Oct 2, 2007

Hello, I am trying to achieve a query results with not much luck. I am struggling the query design of how to construct to get the right results.

My table has the following data

RoomID Subject StartDate Duration(min) EndDate
201 test 28/09/2007 07:00:00 180 28/09/2007 10:00:00

202 test 28/09/2007 09:00:00 240 28/09/2007 13:00:00

The best way to describe is a scheduling system with the StartDate, Duration, EndDate.

I am trying to query for datetime periods which are allocated, eg the table records show from 7am - 10am and 9am - 1pm are allocated.

When I query on StartDate >= 28/09/2007 07:00:00 AND EndDate <= 28/09/2007 13:00:00, record 201 & 202 shows which is correct because they are within query parameters and are allocated.

When I query on StartDate >= 28/09/2007 07:30:00 AND EndDate <= 28/09/2007 13:00:00, record 202 only shows which is correct because record 201 StartDate is before 07:00:00.

But my problem is I require record 201 to show because the time period between 07:00:00 and 09:00:00 is allocated and the query parameter is 07:30:00 which is still between 07:00:00 and 09:00:00.

I have researched where on similar situations, the use of duration is used, but I am unsure on its application to achieve results.

I have also read of other situations where a lookup table should be used, but again I cannot get my head around the application of a lookup table to query the resuults.

Does anyone have any theories, design thoughts or real work solutions they can help me with.

Thanks

Better Charting Capability

Jun 15, 2007

Has anyone heard as to whether Microsoft plans on updating the charting engine for Reporting Services? Right now I find the charting capability rather limited and would like to see richer charting capability. Is this a case where it is better to not wait for this feature as it will be way off into the future before this happens, or better charting features just are not in the scope of Microsoft's plans for Reporting Services. If either case is true then the best solution would be to purchase the full capabilities of Dundas Chart for Reporting Services.

We are thinking of deploying MSDE for a modest traffic Intranet. According to this http://www.microsoft.com/sql/msde/howtobuy/msdeuse.asp 25 concurrent users should be fine.

What exception would we get if the MSDE was not handling the traffic?

What would be the best way to track/log how close we are getting to the 25 user max.

Ideas In Designing Ad Hoc Capability Feature

Jul 23, 2004

I am looking for a solution to allow users to generate data by selecting tables-->columns-->where clauses on the fly.

I am thinking to maintain relationships, joins, etc., in some configuration tables. Based on the fields selected by the user, I can get these conditions and generate a query, execute and export to excel. Any ideas what is the good way of storing relationships, etc. in configuration table?

Also suggest if there is any good excel add-in to do adhoc reporting. Point me if there is any other ways of doing.

If I have to do it from scratch, i probably use VB.NET.

Any ideas, information is appreciated. thanks

Capability For Limiting # Of Package Instances?

Oct 5, 2007

1) How can I keep my package from running more thatn 1 instance at a time?

I tried changing "MAXCONCURRENT" to "1" in my DTEXEC command in batch file, however, this doesn't limit the # of instances. (If I run the batch file twice, one after the next, I get 2 instances running simultaneously).

2) What "executable files" is this definition referring to?

MAXCONCURRENT is defined as:

"Specifies the number of executable files that the package can run concurrently. The value specified must be either a non-negative integer, or -1. A value of -1 means that SSIS will allow a maximum number of concurrently running executables that is equal to the total number of processors on the computer executing the package, plus two."

Thx,

Mojo

SQL 2000 MS Search: Boolean Search Doesn't Work When Search By Phrase

Aug 9, 2006

I'm just wonder if this is a bug in MS Search or am I doing something wrong.

I have a query below

declare @search_clause varchar(255)

set @Search_Clause = ' "hepatitis b" and "hepatocellular carcinoma"'

select * from results

where contains(finding,@search_clause)

I don't get the correct result at all.

If I change my search_clause to "hepatitis" and "hepatocellular carcinoma -- without the "b"

then i get the correct result.

It seems MS Search doesn't like the phrase contain one letter or some sort or is it a know bug?

Anyone know?

Thanks

Help W/ Stored Procedure? - Full-text Search: Search Query Of Normalized Data

Mar 29, 2008

Hi -  I'm short of SQL experience and hacking my way through creating a simple search feature for a personal project. I would be very grateful if anyone could help me out with writing a stored procedure. Problem: I have two tables with three columns indexed for full-text search. So far I have been able to successfully execute the following query returning matching row ids:  dbo.Search_Articles        @searchText varchar(150)        AS    SELECT ArticleID     FROM articles    WHERE CONTAINS(Description, @searchText) OR CONTAINS(Title, @searchText)    UNION    SELECT ArticleID     FROM article_pages    WHERE CONTAINS(Text, @searchText);        RETURN This returns the ArticleID for any articles or article_pages records where there is a text match. I ultimately need the stored procedure to return all columns from the articles table for matches and not just the StoryID. Seems like maybe I should try using some kind of JOIN on the result of the UNION above and the articles table? But I have so far been unable to figure out how to do this as I can't seem to declare a name for the result table of the UNION above. Perhaps there is another more eloquent solution? Thanks! Peter

SQL Search :: Full Text Search With Single Character Returns All Rows

Jul 21, 2015

Our clients want to be able to do full text search with a single letter. (Is the name Newton, Nathan, Nick?, Is the ID N1, N2...). Doing a single character full text search on a table work 25 out of 26 times. The letter that doesn't work is 'n'. the WHERE clause CONTAINS(full_text_field, ' "n*" ') returns all rows, even rows that have no 'n' in them anywhere. Adding a second letter after the "n" works as expected.

Here is an example

create table TestFullTextSearch (
Id int not null,
AllText nvarchar(400)
)
create unique index test_tfts on TestFullTextSearch(Id);
create fulltext catalog ftcat_tfts;

SQL Server 2014 :: Semantic Search Not Finding Keywords Identified By Full-Text Search?

Nov 6, 2014

I have a scenario of where the standard Full-Text search identifies keywords but Semantic Search does not recognize them as keywords. I'm hoping to understand why Semantic Search might not recognize them. The context this is being used in medical terminology and the specific key words I noticed missing right off the bat were medications.

For instance, if I put the following string into a FT indexed table

'J9355 - Trastuzumab (Herceptin)'
AND
'J9355 - Trastuzumab emtansine'

The Semantic Search recognized 'Herceptin' and 'Emtansine' but not 'Trastuzumab'

Nor in

'J8999 - Everolimus (Afinitor)'

It did not recognize 'Afinitor' as a keyword.

In all cases the Base of Full-Text did find those keywords and were identifiable using the dmvsys.dm_fts_index_keywords_by_document.It does show the index as having completed.

why certain words might not be picked up while others would be? Could it be a language/dictionary issue? I am using English and accent insensitive settings?

Create Site Search Using Sql Server Full Text Search

Jul 24, 2007

would you use sql server "full text search" feature as your site index?  from some reason i can't make index server my site search catalog, and i wonder if the full text is the solution. i think that i wll have to you create new table called some thing like "site text" and i will need to write every text twice- one the the table (let's say "articles table") and one to the text. other wise- there is problems finding the right urlof the text, searching different tables with different columns name and so on...
so i thought create site search table, with the columns:
id, text, url
and to write every thing to this table.
but some how ot look the wrong way, that every forum post, every article, album picture or joke will insert twice to the sqr server...
what do you think?

Full-Text Search: Prefix / Suffix Search

Sep 14, 2004

Please help me to create an SQL Server 2000 Stored Procedure for using prefix and suffix terms.

Example:

Say I want to find "Terminator" (1984).

I want to be able to use "Term" or "ator" as search results and still return the proper record.

Here is my Stored Procedure creation sql:

CREATE PROCEDURE sps_searchTitles(@searchTerm varchar(255)) AS
SELECT * FROM Video
WHERE FREETEXT (Video.*, '"*@searchTerm*"')
GO

--- The above does not appear to properly check both prefix ("Term---") and suffix ("---ator") terms.

I am trying to accomplish what is similarly done with LIKE '%term%'.

SQL 2012 :: FullText Search - Can Search Terms Come From Another Table

Mar 25, 2015

I have a table that contains words that will be used to search another table where FullText index has been created on searchable columns. I'm basically trying to run something like this:

SELECT t1.col1, t2.col3
FROM tbl1 t1, tbl2 t2
WHERE CONTAINS (t1.col1, t2.col1)

I know this won't work but is there a way to join these two tables so the words (t2.col1) can be passed as search conditions? There is no common key on both tables so normal join won't work. I'm trying to find a way to pass the search words from one table to another.

SQL Search :: Can't Get Expected Results With Contains And Full Text Search?

Nov 1, 2015

I am using Sql Server 2014 Express edition.I have a table with a varchar(max) column. I have created a full text search that use the stoplist "system". column has this struct: xxx.yyy.zzz.... where xxx, yyy, zzz... are numbers, like 123.345.123123.366456...I can have rows like that:

123.345
123.345
123.345.444
123.345.555
123.345.666
123.345.444.777
123.345.444.888
123.345.555.999

I am trying this query:

select * from Mytable where
contains(MyColumn, '123.345.')

I gues the contains would return all the rows with column contains 123.345, but this does not return all the expected rows, only one row.I have tried to replace "." with "-" but the result is the same.I have also tried with '123.345.*. In this case I have got more results, but no all the exptected rows.If I use this query:

select * from MyTable where
MyCOlumn like '123.345.%';
