Preventing [sa ] To Login Via Query Analyzer [SQL Server 2005]

I am implementing the security and add different windows domain group and also assign then appropriate rights and permission.
No i want that if some knows the "sa" password and want to connect to sql server 2005 via query analyzer then message should display to user that u can not login with sa login while using SQL Server Query analyzer.
How i can identify and can display the message?

I tried. I really did to adapt to using Management studio as a replacement, but I just can't make the jump. I went ahead and installed SQL 2000 QA and have gone back to using it for ad-hoc query support and other routine SQL tasks. For me the main thing is the "Notepad-esque" lightness of QA compared to the heavier SQL tools that allows me to quickly open a SQL script file and get to work on it quickly. I appreciate an integrated tool, but I would like to see future versions allow you to use it either as a standalone or within integrated platform. Am I alone in this? Anyone else feeling this pain?

Hi,
In SQL 2000, to debug a stored proc I would launch QA, right click and hit debug.
How do I accomplish this with SQL 2005. I can't see that it came with QA.

Hi all,
Have just tried my sql server 2005 connected asp classic website on II7 for the first time and have gotten some errors.
First off I have unchecked show friendly errors in IE and have enabled ASP to send error messages to the browser.
My error I get is when I execute a basic .asp page:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot open database "mydatabasename" requested by the login. The login failed.
/index.asp, line 10 which is dbConnect.Open cstring
from this peice of code:

I have gone into ODBC and have setup both a user dsn and file dsn that equals mysqldsn and points to my database (I know you only need to set up one DSN but I'm not sure which)
I also notice under mywebsite home panel there is a connection string option. Do I do anything with that?
Definatley a lot more to it than XP's II6!
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
When looking in the server trace in query analyzer – I can see how many ‘reads’ a stored procedure does.
So I'm wondering if we can determine whether our query is good or bad by looking at the number of reads/writes that showing in the Trace.

I was given a list of user comments from an old application and told to match it up with our current system. After all the easy methods I was still left with 95% of the records unmatched. The only way I had left was to try and match up the names. Given that people could have the same name I added a count to make sure it only found one record. This query has been running for over an hour now. How do I tell if it's actually running, or if it locked up?
Also here is the query I'm using, does anyone have any feedback on it? Is this poorly written, is my logic wrong? Did I put the server in a loop?

Hi everybody!
i've got a problem: when trying to connect to SQL Query Analyzer on SQL Server 2000 with SQL Server authentication, i fill in the gaps user name and password but when i press OK it gives me an error.
it says: "Unable to connect to server server-name: login failed for user X. Reason: not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection".
the user i want to get connected with is correcly set up and appears in the SQL Server security-->logins list with type=standard; server access=permit; default database=master.
how could I correct it?

Hi,
I am using SQL Server 2005 at home.
My problem is I forgot my password to log in to my server.
I only remember user name is 'sa'.
I haven't used it for two to three months. So I forgot password.
Previously, When I used sql server 2000, my login is as windows login. so no problem.
But this time, I set seperate log in and I got this problem.
Any help will be appreciated.

Hello everyone,
Since last so many days i am seeing that someone is trying to login to sql server through login name sa.but that login is failed.and this is occuring constantly.
Earlier i had same login failed message for another ip address.i have blocked that ip address through access-list in firewall.but now i am seeing the same message for another ip address.
(1).how can i permenently remove this message from Event log.
(2).What is the impact of this on sql server performance.is sql server performance degraded by this kind of contineous attack?

I've been searching around for some info on how to set this up, but with no luck.I need to have a .sql file that will set up a few tables and these tables will have relationships and contraints.I can do this by hand in enterprise manager, but need to set up some procedures that will do the same thing.For instance, I can create the tables just fine.....CREATE TABLE students ( sId int NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY, studentId varchar(50) NOT NULL, course varchar(50) )
CREATE TABLE courses ( cId int NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY, course varchar(50) NOT NULL, sco varchar(50) )But, I need to set up relationships in there somehow.Once student may have many courses (one to many) and one course may have many sco's (one to many) SCO would be another table.Can someone point me to a good link that would show how to complete these procedures?Thanks all,Zath

Good day. I was able to connect to a database server using SQL ServerEnterprise Manager. The Server name specified on the tree isJOMARGON(Windows NT). But no server was detected using either VisualStudio .NET and SQL Server's query analyzer.I highlighted one database (master) on the SQL Server EnterpriseManager and chose 'SQL Query Analyzer' under the 'Tools' menu. Itworked. The Title of the Query Analyzer window isSQL Server Analyzer - [Query- JOMARGON.master.JOMARGONJM Gonzalezand below on the status bar, I can seeJOMARGON(8.0) and JOMARGONJM Gonzalez(52)But again, I cannot connect manually using Query Analyzer as nothing islisted in the SQL Server drop-down listThanks

Good morning,
I have a project that consists of modifying a report in Crystal. The problem is that I know very little about SQL and I need to add some data items to Crystal using SQL. The guide that I was given refers to Enterprise Manager and SQL Query Analyzer but they have since upgraded to SQL Server Management Studio. Can anyone translate the following statement into SQL Server Management Studio so that I can complete this process?

Manager and find the cst_adEnroll_MyInitials _vw in the Views
section of the database. Right-click, select Copy, then go to the
menu bar and Select Tools and SQL Query Analyzer. Once Query
Analyzer opens: Change CREATE to ALTER before the view name.

I'm using MSSQL7, NT authentication and application roles so only my application can access the data. Also, other applications (like Excel) can not access the data and read it. So far, so good...
Yet, I noticed that if I try to access the SQL Server from another SQL Server on the network, it is allowed to see the list of tables, SP, etc. It is not allowed to open the table, but the Import/Export wizard is working and will allow retrieving data from the secured tables.
If I change to MSSQL authentication, any user will be able to access the data from my application and I don't want that either.
Unless I'm missing something, this is a big problem, especially today where any VPN connection with valid user name and password can actually log in to the domain and therefore connect to the database via SQL Server.
By the way, the server still must allow access to users via applications so logins must exist. I just don't want other SQL servers on the network to be able to connect to and import/export, view table and SP, etc.
Any ideas?

Just installed SQL Server 2005 and tested my old VS 2005 ASPnet websites, which were connected toSQL Server 2000 databases before. All my websites were created for local HTTP applications, coded with a connection string with User ID and Password. The SQL Server 2000 was configured as mixed authentication (i.e. with User ID and Password). These websites worked very well with SQL Server 2000 database server.Testing my old VS 2005 websites with SQL Server 2005 database, showed a 'Login failed for a User ''.' error msgalthough the 'Test Connection' on VS 2005 design showed a perfect query for e.g. a GridView control. I have assured that the UserID/Password were correct for Management Studio Security object'slogin and Database Security's user. The server instance was configured with mixed authentication mode. One thing I am not sure of is, when clicking the Management Studio icon, a Connection dialog showed up, asking for a Windows or MIxed authentication? I just stayed with the Windows authentication. What does the authenticationmode have anything to do with the VS 2005 website connection? Should I change to mixed authetnication mode?TIA,Jeffrey

When I run the following query from Query Analyzer in SQL Serer 2005, I get a message back that says.
Command(s) completed successfully.
What I really need it to do is to display the results of the query. Does anyone know how to do this?

Hi allWe had a small problem when an ASP web page had a missing 'where' statementand updated all the records in the table. Luckily we could retrieve all thedata from the backups.How do you guys prevent this from happening in your large systems. THis is so annoying. I have 3 ADO executes in my program. THe first one creates a view, the second one performs an outer join on that view and returns a result set, the third execute drops the aforementioned view. THe program that is using this is installed on about 200 computers scattered across Germany and Italy, all querying the same MSsql server 7.0. THe queries run quite quick when few users are actively using the program (after hours for example). however in the heat of the day performance goes up and down dramatically with identical queries taking from 1 to 20 seconds to return their result set. Now I initially thought 'bandwidth issue out of our server'. However I noticed that if I take those three queries and run them from the sql server enterprise manager( running on the same computer as the aforementioned program) then the queries run instantly and the data is in my result pane in less than 2 seconds ALWAYS....even when the program is dogging it with 20 second delays before the result set returns. I know it is hanging on the return of the result set as I put a stop after before each ADO execute in order to check which one was eating up my time. Why is there this dichotomy between running the queries from my enterprise manager versus running them from an ADO object. Both are using TCP/IP (no named pipes involved). I havent monkied with the attributes of the ADO result set so they are all set to default.
I have used the sql server profiler to trace these queries and they always run in less than 33 milliseconds. THe duration is also never more than 33 milliseconds. THis stinks of a network resource issue but what always leads me somewhere else is how consistent the performance of the enterprise manager is when it runs the exact same three queries.

When I run query in excel it gives result with different column sequence. The same query gives result with different column sequence when used in query analyzer or VBA Macro. E.g., Select * from ABC.

I hope I am not asking about something that has been done before, but Ihave searched and cannot find an answer. What I am trying to do is torun a query, and then perform some logic on the rowcount and thenpossibly display the result of the query. I know it can be done withADO, but I need to do it in Query Analyzer. I am trying to determine which of three stored procedure designs arefastest in the Query Analyzer:One query is a straight SELECT query with all desired rows and a dozen(tblName.RowName = @param or @param = Null) filters in the WHEREstatement.One query populates a #Temp table with the UniqueIDs from the resultsof the SELECT query in the above example, then joins that #Temp tableto get the desired rows.One query users EXEC sp_executesql @sql, @paramlist, @paramin which the @param has the dozen filters.What I'm trying to determine is which is the fastest.Each time I run the query in Query Analyzer it returns the samerecordset (duh!) but with much different Time Statistics.Are the Time Statisticts THE HOLY QRAIL as far as determining which isfastest, and what so I want to look at, the Vale or the Average? the other return 7-8 secs for the query result.

Say you have a state column with the name of a state in it. And you need to add a branchId to the table. I know I should not have it in there, and the application should use proper lookup tables, but that's not the case.
Can SQL Server query analyzer loop through and update the branchid field based on a lookup in a lookup table?
How would that be done?
