Not a big deal but would be nice to print the execution results from BIDS. Looks like MS intentially won't allow you to print it. Any work-a-rounds other than screen shots?

'set' Query Option To Results In Text? Print Ss, Mis?

Jul 17, 2003

In TSQL, is there a way to 'Set' the query option results in text as the head of my sql statement?

kind of tired of hit contol+t to get the text result.

also, when I
print '@dateStart--' + cast(@dateStart as varchar(30))
I don't get seconds and I even need mis.
Is there a simple way instead of a combination of datepart() to get ss, mis?

thanks

Capturing Execution Results

Accessing Query Execution Plan Results Programmatically

Mar 19, 2007

Does anyone know if it is possible to access the execution plan results programmatically through a stored procedure or .NET assembly? I have the code sample

SET SHOWPLAN_XML ON; query... SET SHOWPLAN_XML OFF;

but it can only be run from the interface. I have tried a couple of solutions including dynamic sql to try to capture the results in a variable or file with no luck.

Does anyone know of a way to programmatically capture this information? We are doing some research with distributed query processing of dynamically generated queries using multiple processing nodes, and it would be helpful to know an estimate of how large the query is before sending it away to be processed.

I have looked at the dm_exec_query_stats view; but it can only be run on a query that has already been executed. I need to know the execution plan before the query is executed. If there is a way to get a query to show up in this view without being executed, then that would work as well.

Thanks -- MT

DB Engine :: How To Add Execution Plan To Extended Events Results Also When Capturing Deadlock Event

Oct 24, 2015

We know we can use the event lock_deadlock and xml_deadlock_report to capture the deadlock info,  however I also want to capture the execution plans for all of the SPIDs in the deadlock graph,  how to output the execution plans to the extended events trace results either ? such as if there is an action for execution plan or workaround for it ?If there is no built in action for execution plan , may I know if we can add the customized info to the extended events results file also ? Such as when the deadlock related event happens , then we can run a query to get some info ,then added the info along with other info such as sql_text, dbname  etc  to the events trace results file either ? The reason is if we also know the execution plans when the deadlock happens, it is useful to turning the query based on the execution plans to reduce deadlock happening .

Print Barcodes With The Active X Print Control

Mar 2, 2007

We are having problems printing Reports (when printing by clicking on the AcitiveX print control), where the font for the fields are set to "C39HrP24DhTt" (barcode).

While viewing the report it displays as Barcodes but while printing, the Barcode does not get printed, but the string gets printed.

Environment: SSRS 2005

Using the ReportViewer Control in a .Net 2.0 Web App to render the reports.

BarCodes print fine in the following situations:

1. When the Report is exported to Excel and when printed from there

2. When you click on the print button on Internet Explorer

3. When saving as html (from view source) and opening that html document and printing.

BarCodes do NOT get printed in the following situation:

1. When printing by clicking on the "Print" (Active X Control) icon. Even the "Print Preview" does not show the Barcode.

Execute Package Results Different To Step By Step Execution - Uses Raw File

Jan 31, 2007

I have a package that has multiple data flow tasks. At the end of a task, key data is written into a raw file (file name stored in a variable) that is used as a data source for the next task. Each task requires a success from the preceding task.

Here's the rub:

If I execute the entire package, the results of the package (number of records of certain tasks) differs significantly from when I execute each step in the package in turn (many more records e.g. 5 vs 350).

I get the feeling that the Raw file is read into memory before it is flushed by the previous task, or that the next task begins preparation tasks too early.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am running on Server 2003 64 (although the same thing happens when deployed on a Server 2003 32 machine)

Thanks

Reporting Services From WebBrowser Control - Print = Unable To Load Client Print Control

Mar 20, 2007

UPDATE #2: When it said "Do you want to install Microsoft SQL Server" I said "yes" and that caused it to work. I exited and re-ran and now the print runs w/o the "install SQL Server" (If the prompt had said "Do you want to install the print dialog" we wouldn't be having this discussion...)

UPDATE: After posting this i discovered that the same thing occurs when attempting to print the report direct from IE6: First a dialog pops up "Do you want to install this software?" Name: Microsoft SQL Server. When I click "Don't Install" I get the dialog "unable to load client print control." Since this happens direct from IE6 I suspect it's browser settings. I'll resume tomorrow and post a followup.

My WinForm C# app integrates Reporting Services by calling them from WebBrowser controls. The problem is attempts to print cause a dialog: "unable to load client print control."

I've read prior posts that say "enable Active-X in your browser" - I don't know how to do that from a WebBrowser control.

Any ideas how to support Reporting Services "Print" from within a WebBrowser control?

Static Variables In A SQLCLR Stored Proc Seem To Get Reused From Execution To Execution Of The Sp

after moving off VS debugger and into management studio to exercise our SQLCLR sp, we notice that the 2nd execution gets an error suggesting that our static SqlCommand object is getting reused from the 1st execution (of the sp under mgt studio). If this is expected behavior, we have no problem limiting our statics to only completely reusable objects but would first like to know if this is expected? Is the fact that debugger doesnt show this behavior also expected?

Execution Plans &<&> Proportionate Execution Times

Dec 7, 2005

Hi I am slowly getting to grips with SQL Server. As a part of this, I have been attempting to work on producing more efficient queries. This post is regarding what appears to be a discrepancy between the SQL Server execution plan and the actual time taken by a query to run. My brief is to produce an attendance system for an education establishment (I presume you know I'm not an A-Level student completing a project :p ). Circa 1.5m rows per annum, testing with ~3m rows currently. College_Year could strictly be inferred from the AttDateTime however it is included as a field because it a part of just about every PK this table is ever likely to be linked to. Indexes are not fully optimised yet. Table:CREATE TABLE [dbo].[AttendanceDets] ([College_Year] [smallint] NOT NULL ,[Group_Code] [char] (12) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NOT NULL ,[Student_ID] [char] (8) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NOT NULL ,[Session_Date] [datetime] NOT NULL ,[Start_Time] [datetime] NOT NULL ,[Att_Code] [char] (1) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NOT NULL ) ON [PRIMARY]GO CREATE CLUSTERED INDEX [IX_AltPK_Clust_AttendanceDets] ON [dbo].[AttendanceDets]([College_Year], [Group_Code], [Student_ID], [Session_Date], [Att_Code]) ON [PRIMARY]GO CREATE INDEX [All] ON [dbo].[AttendanceDets]([College_Year], [Group_Code], [Student_ID], [Session_Date], [Start_Time], [Att_Code]) ON [PRIMARY]GO CREATE INDEX [IX_AttendanceDets] ON [dbo].[AttendanceDets]([Att_Code]) ON [PRIMARY]GOALL inserts are via an overnight sproc - data comes from a third party system. Group_Code is 12 chars (no more no less), student_ID 8 chars (no more no less). I have created a simple sproc. I am using this as a benchmark against which I am testing my options. I appreciate that this sproc is an inefficient jack of all trades - it has been designed as such so I can compare its performance to more specific sprocs and possibly some dynamic SQL. Sproc:CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[CAMsp_Att] @College_Year AS SmallInt,@Student_ID AS VarChar(8) = '________', @Group_Code AS VarChar(12) = '____________', @Start_Date AS DateTime = '1950/01/01', @End_Date as DateTime = '2020/01/01', @Att_Code AS VarChar(1) = '_' AS IF @Start_Date = '1950/01/01'SET @Start_Date = CAST(CAST(@College_Year AS Char(4)) + '/08/31' AS DateTime) IF @End_Date = '2020/01/01'SET @End_Date = CAST(CAST(@College_Year +1 AS Char(4)) + '/07/31' AS DateTime) SELECT College_Year, Group_Code, Student_ID, Session_Date, Start_Time, Att_Code FROM dbo.AttendanceDets WHERE College_Year = @College_YearAND Group_Code LIKE @Group_CodeAND Student_ID LIKE @Student_IDAND Session_Date <= @End_DateAND Session_Date >=@Start_DateAND Att_Code LIKE @Att_CodeGOMy confusion lies with running the below script with Show Execution Plan:--SET SHOWPLAN_TEXT ON--Go DECLARE @Time as DateTime Set @Time = GetDate() select College_Year, group_code, Student_ID, Session_Date, Start_Time, Att_Code from attendanceDetswhere College_Year = 2005 AND group_code LIKE '____________' AND Student_ID LIKE '________'AND Session_Date <= '2005-11-16' AND Session_Date >= '2005-11-16' AND Att_Code LIKE '_' Print 'First query took: ' + CAST(DATEDIFF(ms, @Time, GETDATE()) AS VarCHar(5)) + ' milli-Seconds' Set @Time = GetDate() EXEC CAMsp_Att @College_Year = 2005, @Start_Date = '2005-11-16', @End_Date = '2005-11-16' Print 'Second query took: ' + CAST(DATEDIFF(ms, @Time, GETDATE()) AS VarCHar(5)) + ' milli-Seconds'GO --SET SHOWPLAN_TEXT OFF--GOThe execution plan for the first query appears miles more costly than the sproc yet it is effectively the same query with no parameters. However, my understanding is the cached plan substitutes literals for parameters anyway. In any case - the first query cost is listed as 99.52% of the batch, the sproc 0.48% (comparing the IO, cpu costs etc support this). BUT the text output is:(10639 row(s) affected) First query took: 596 milli-Seconds (10639 row(s) affected) Second query took: 2856 milli-SecondsI appreciate that logical and physical performance are not one and the same but can why is there such a huge discrepancy between the two? They are tested on a dedicated test server, and repeated running and switching the order of the queries elicits the same results. Sample data can be provided if requested but I assumed it would not shed much light. BTW - I know that additional indexes can bring the plans and execution time closer together - my question is more about the concept. If you've made it this far - many thanks. If you can enlighten me - infinite thanks.

Execution In Scheduled Job Vs Direct Execution

Nov 29, 2004

Here's my case, I have written a stored procedure which will perform the following:
1. Grab data from a table using cursor,
2. Process data,
3. Write the result into another table

If I execute the stored procedure directly (thru VS.NET, or Query Analyser), it will run, but when I tried to execute it via a scheduled job, it fails.

I used the same record, same parameters, and the same statements to call the stored procedure.

Any idea?

SQL Server 2008 :: Elegant Way For Returning All Results When Subquery Returns No Results?

Mar 25, 2015

I have four tables: Customer (CustomerId INT, CountyId INT), County (CountyId INT), Search(SearchId INT), and SearchCriteria (SearchCriteriaId INT, SearchId INT, CountyId INT, [others not related to this]).

I want to search Customer based off of the Search record, which could have multiple SearchCriteria records. However, if there aren't any SearchCriteria records with CountyId populated for a given Search, I want it to assume to get all Customer records, regardless of CountyId.

Right now, I'm doing it this way.

DECLARE @SearchId INT = 100
SELECT * FROM Customer WHERE
CountyId IN
(
SELECT CASE WHEN EXISTS(SELECT CountyId FROM SearchCriteria WHERE SearchId = @SearchId)
THEN SearchCriteria.CountyId

[Code] .....

This works; it just seems cludgy. Is there a more elegant way to do this?

Need To Display Results Of A Query, Then Use A Drop Down List To Filter The Results.

Feb 12, 2008

Hello. I currently have a website that has a table on one webpage. When a record is clicked, the primary key of that record is transfered in the query string to another page and fed into an sql statement. In this case its selecting a project on the first page, and displaying all the scripts for that project on another page. I also have an additional dropdownlist on the second page that i use to filter the scripts by an attribute called 'testdomain'. At present this works to an extent. When i click a project, i am navigated to the scripts page which is empty except for the dropdownlist. i then select a 'testdomain' from the dropdownlist and the page populates with scripts (formview) for the particular test domain. what i would like is for all the scripts to be displayed using the formview in the first instance when the user arrives at the second page. from there, they can then filter the scripts using the dropdownlist.
My current SQL statement is as follows.
SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [TestScript] WHERE (([ProjectID] = @ProjectID) AND ([TestDomain] = @TestDomain))"
So what is happening is when testdomain = a null value, it does not select any scripts. Is there a way i can achieve the behaivour of the page as i outlined above? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
James.

Removing Individual Results From A Paged Set Of Results.

Oct 19, 2007

Hi,
I have a web form that lets users search for people in my database they wish to contact. The database returns a paged set of results using a CTE, Top X, and Row_number().
I would like to give my users to option of removing individual people from this list but cannot find a way to do this.
I have tried creating a session variable with a comma delimited list of ID's that I pass to my sproc and use in a NOT IN() statement. But I keep getting a "Input string was not in a correct format." Error Message.
Is there any way to do this? I am still new to stored procedures so any advice would be helpful.
