While working in the report project in Visual Studio, I set my Report Layout to 14w x 8.5h with .25 margins on all sides, and the page size to be 13.5in (to take into account the margins). When I print from the report viewer control in Preview mode, the report prints as it should, in Landscape on Legal paper without me changing any settings.
When I deploy the same report to the report server, and print from there, the report prints in Landscape on Letter paper (which causes some columns to print on a second page).
Why is there a difference in the two environments? Is there something I'm missing?
The goal is for the users to be able to print the report correctly without having them change any print settings in the dialog.
Paper is 21cm x 9cmPrinter is Epson LX-300..When I set this paper size, SSRS turns orientation to landscape and prints as if clockwise right rotated!I tried creating custom paper on print server options without success. I also tried setting the same paper size in Report Builder and Print Server but failed again.
I am new to reporting services and I'm really stuck on a design problem. Can someone please help me?
I would like to design my own print function. When a user clicks on the print icon (preferably the one that came with reporting services), the report is automatically printed twice, once with "For Person A" and the second time with "For Person B" on it. It doesn't matter where these two labels are placed on the page. These two reports need to be printed on letter-size paper regardless of user's selection. How do I do this with minimum amount of code?
I created a parameterized report. When end user select different values from the parameter drop down list , he/she can see the corresponding report for each value.
Now end user wants to print all those reports at the same time , without selecting each report by changing the parameter values.
Having just discovered that linked reports do not retain any print formating applied to the original report I thought I'd check out the forum and see if it was just me having a senile moment or if Microsoft had in fact dropped a clanger of massive proportion.
After reading one or two questions from other RS users it does seem as if Microsoft have stuck again and completely diminished a useful feature by stripping it of anything, well....... useful. Well done MS, you once again have my applause for mind-boggling ineptitude of what should be impossible magnitude. Ah, you've got to laugh.
Maybe this and other bugs with RS2005 will be ironed out in Microsoft Reporting Services 2008 - The Search for More Money.
Dependingon the printer, the report prints differently. Sometimes it's all messed up on certain printers on others it prints fine. I see the problem mostly with older HP printers..
I'm using vs2005. I can't print the reports by clicking the print icon only once, i have to do it twice.
After clicking OK in the print dialog box, I can see a pop up message that says it is printing but actually it is not printing, then if I repeat the process it will print. What could be the problem here? Please help. Thanks in advance. :)
Ok, so I have a report that is generating product labels on a standard mailing lable sheet (30 of them on a 8.5X11 sheet of stock). The whole process works just fine even the printing of the bar codes when I am printing the lables from VS2005's Preview function. However, when I moved the report to our reports server and run the same report, the barcodes don't print out. I have checked, and the barcode font has been installed on the server.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! - Eric-
Since SP2 was installed on our SSRS server a couple of days ago, reports viewed in the client Report Viewer control (with or without VS SP1) show a black background when in Print Layout Mode. All other rendering options work fine. Anyone else seen this? Any clues how to fix?
For a class I am taking, I have to write a SQL statement to return emails that show up in a table more than once. The schema for the table is:
Table: Users Email - Varchar(75) City - Varchar(75) State - Char(2)
I have a proposed solution, but I am not sure it would work since there is no concrete implementation of this. The class is still doing basic SQL, so forgive my inexperience.
I've been tasked with creating an installer that will either install SQL Express or connect to an existing SQL server. Then I'm to run an .sql script to initialize a new database.
I'm using SSEUtil.exe as there will be no SQLCMD if the existing SQL server is on a remote machine.
Can I package SSEUtil.exe into my installer? Is this legal?
If not, is there a standard SQL Server client I can use to achieve this?
i am getting an error like "The path is not of a legal form C#" when i converted my C# .Net 2003 Project to C# .Net 2005. I am not able to open the designer straight forward. if i open i get the above mentioned error. what i am doing is i goto the code and from there i right click -- view designer. can anyone tell me what i need to do to solve this issue

A - Must Declare variable @ZipEntry - error generates when I run the code below. If I hard code the "WHERE ZipCode = 72364" it works (display messed up but it works - don't know how to code in the line breaks yet). But when I try to pass in the value of a TextBox called txtZipEntry on the page I get this error. Am I not delcaring @ZipCode in the correct spot ? Hey guys, I didn't know exactly where to post this, but I'm wondering what the legal implications of decompiling a .DLL are ?
We are using SQL Reporting Services 2005 with the Excel Export option. The problem is that our reports have a lot of hyperlinks on each page so we can easly navigate all the reports, but when we go ahead and export the report, all the hyperlinks get exported too; resulting in a file atleast 10x the size.
i.e we export a report and it results in a 20mb excel file, but once we remove all the hyper links and save it again it drops down to a 500k file.
So I was wondering, what the legality was in decompiling the Excel Export.DLL that comes with Reporting Services and removing the Hyperlink export functionality ?
My workplace uses SQL Server 2000 with both a dev server and a production server. I would like to install my copy of SQL Server 2005 Eeveloper Edition at work to use the client tools strictly with the dev server. I am wondering if anyone is familiar with the legality of this or if they can point me to any documentation that I can make sense of before I look into doing this.
When I push Add in the configuration dialog, I cannot even get to the first page of the configuration wizard, due to the following error, in several solutions (but not in several others). All have at least one existing configuration (necessarily, to get passwords for connections).
We are having problems printing Reports (when printing by clicking on the AcitiveX print control), where the font for the fields are set to "C39HrP24DhTt" (barcode).
While viewing the report it displays as Barcodes but while printing, the Barcode does not get printed, but the string gets printed.
Environment: SSRS 2005
Using the ReportViewer Control in a .Net 2.0 Web App to render the reports.
BarCodes print fine in the following situations:
1. When the Report is exported to Excel and when printed from there
2. When you click on the print button on Internet Explorer
3. When saving as html (from view source) and opening that html document and printing.
BarCodes do NOT get printed in the following situation:
1. When printing by clicking on the "Print" (Active X Control) icon. Even the "Print Preview" does not show the Barcode.
We've been working on a white paper targeting SSIS connectivity which we hope will help answer some of the key questions in the following areas :
What are the SSIS components and their support level for ADO.NET, ODBC, and OleDB?
How to deal with 64-bit connectors? what is supported, what is not?
Special sections on popular data sources such as SAP, Oracle, DB2, Flat File, XML.
A comprehensive list of data sources and available connectors from Microsoft and other 3rd parties.
You'll also find answers to why some of the things are the way they are today.
Note that this white paper is currently under official editing and publishing in Microsoft. It'll be a while before it goes public officially, but I wanted to share it with you, as the rich content it offers can't really wait. You'll find the paper in my blog, which is really a wiki site about SSIS connectivity fully open to public, so feel free to add/update content in there as you feel proper, and help the SSIS community with your wisdom!
A lot of feedback went into this white paper not only from Microsoft, but also from some of our partners and MVPs. I'd like to extend special thanks to Bob Beauschemin for authoring this challenging white paper.
Among best practices for SQL Server service accounts on page 8, it is recommended to 'use a separate account for each service'. I created separate account for each service as advised and assign account to relevant Windows group created for each SQL Server service during SQL setup.
Now when I run Best Practices Analyzer, its report seemed to contradict what the above article said. For example, BPA reports excerpts:
"We recommend that the service SQLBrowser on host MachineName be run under Network Service Account". I get similar recommendation for SQLSERVERAGENT account as well. Most importantly, it recommends that MSFTESQL be run under SQL Server Service Account.
I'm trying to find out if there is any way I can embed anything in a report to tell it which paper tray to print to. So far, the only references I've found to such a capability are involved in using the Printer Delivery Extension. Does anyone know if this is indeed possible with that, or by any other means? Thanks!

I am looking for some published paper regarding database performancetunning performance strategies. This is for academic purpose so itneeds not to be any commerical database specific. It will be evenbetter if the paper has some kind of methods to quantify/measureperformance. Has anyone come across with any interesting paper aboutthis? Thanks, ewong
Hello. I have a report but by default it prints Portrait and 1.0inch Margin. I would like to programmatically set the values of my report to 0.2 inch margin and Landscape. I am using RDLC (Local Report). Does anyone has an idea how to achieve this?
I have been trying to configure the Paper Size to be default "A4" instead of "Letter". My Report is configured to 21cm x 29,7cm and margins 1,5cm. The Body is configured to 18cm x 26,7cm.
Everything looks fine in the Preview but the Size is always "Letter". The printers are all configured for A4 printing.
Is there a way to set these default values in the Page Setup Toolbar or is it supposed to figure it out?
