Hello all,
I don't know what I am doing wrong.
In my environment, we have monitoring tool that scan through sql errorlog
every 10minutes to capture some error that occurs.
I have been trying for days now to create an alert for any of our failed
backup to appear in the sql errorlog with the code below. After I add
message to the sysmessage table with sp_addmessage, and raising the error
with log option, I modified the existing scheduled backup job by creating
an alert with the num in the code.
For some reason, this error will not just show up in the sql errorlog when
it failed.
Has anyone any advise on what to do?
The code is:
sp_addmessage 50001, 25, 'Backup Failed for the '%.*ls' database.Please Contact MSSQL DBA Immediately!!!! '
GO
DECLARE @DBID INT
SET @DBID = DB_ID()
DECLARE @DBNAME NVARCHAR(128)
SET @DBNAME = DB_NAME()
RAISERROR (50001, 25, 1, @DBID, @DBNAME) with log
GO
Thanks
SA
We have set up a couple of SQL Server 2005 systems and I have foundthat the format of the ERRORLOG files and the SQL Agent's log filesare Unicode or some format that findstr cannot parse properly. "find"parses them fine, but it doesn't have the capabilities that I need --specifically, I can't search for multiple strings in one search.I see the checkbox on the SQL Agent's for "Write OEM File", but it isgrayed out so I am not able to try checking that. I also don't knowif that would affect the server's ERRORLOG file too or just theAgent's log file.So what am I missing? What is everyone else doing who is used tohaving scripts to parse these files looking for strings that indicateproblems? Is there a server setting that will force it to go back toa plain ANSI text file format for log files? Is that a bad thing todo? Thanks in advance for any insight,Teresa Masino
View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to compare the schemas of 2 different databases, I heard that there was a way to dump the contents of a database (tables, stored procedures, objects, etc) to a text file in SQL to use for an easy compare. Anyone know the process in which to do this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI got SQL server 2000 running on Server 2003 Enterprise edition. And a dump file, which I have no idea how it has been created. All I know is that the data is some relational database.
I need to import this dump file into the SQL server database.
Does anyone know how this can be done?
Hi, I just started using SQL Server 2005 and I'm trying to find out how to do a sql dump on a table, but this is proving more challenging then it should be.
I usually use mysql with a program called navicat, and all you do is right click on the table and select dump... Inserting the data back in is just as simple. I have also used sql server 2000 awhile back and I know there was a dumping utility for it.
Can someone point me in the right direction on how to dump data to a .sql file and reinsert that data? Thanks!
All,
I need to dump a table with more than 200 columns to a flat file. I tired in SSIS with the flat file destination, but it only allows 84 columns. What should I do if I want to dump all the columns to a text or cvs file.
Thanks in advance
I have several SSIS packages which are run in sequence. But some strange reason sometimes a SQL Dump is created. If I restore database and restart the same ETL is works, or it creates another SQL Dump in a different place. Any idea on how to debug this problem?

I'm using sqlserver 2000 enterprise edition. I am an oracle dba and we have some tables in sqlserver 2000 that we need to write out to the flat file. I have a procedure in oracle to do this for oracle tables. But, how would I do this in sqlserver 2000. I have 10 columns on this table and I only want 3 columns data to be dumped on the flat file. We are on NT sever 4.0.

Hi,
I do not know if it can be done:
how to import an Oracle dump file into SQL server ?
That dump file contains the content of a table, excported from Oracle.
Is there a way or another to import it to SQLServer 2000 ?
Thanks
I am trying to export a table with ~ 10 Million rows to a flat file and it is taking for ever with SQL2005 export functionality. I have tried creating an SSIS package with a flat-file destination and the results are the same. In each case it does the operation in chunks of about 9900+ rows, and each chunk takes ~1-2 minutes which sounds unreasonable.
I tried bcp, and it fails after a few thousand rows. I tried moving the data to SQL2000 first then to flat file from SQL2K, but the move from SQL2005->SQL2000 was going at the same rate as above.
So, the bottleneck seems to be data going out of SQL2005 no matter what the destination is. I'm wondering if there is some setting that Iam missing that would make this run in a reasonable amount of time?
Why osql igores parameter -w for command PRINT... and why cut the last character ????
osql -S<Server> -d<DB> -E -Q"Print replicate('ab',250)" -otest.txt -n -h -b -w1000
this one example returns two rows, first has 255 characters and second only 244 characters...
Does anyone know how to print to a file or printer using T-SQL or stored procedure?
Thanks
For certain reason, I set nocount off in the proc procABC.
I need to collect all the counters(Ins/Upd/Del) and
print statment on the isql/w screen to a .txt file.
How could I capture all the running info as a daily log file?
thanks

Is it possible within SQL Express stored procedures to redirect Print statements, along with other output messages to file?
In the following example I would like to redirect the output to a file (text or XML):
PRINT 'Droping Class Type Data Object...'
DROP TABLE ClassTypeRef
Output to Messages which I would like to redirect to a file:
Droping Class Type Data Object...
DROP_TABLE - dbo.ClassTypeRef
Thanks in advance,
Mark
Is this possible? I would think it would be, but not sure of the commands and I can't find them in my books.
I'm looking for something like.
EXEC usp_studentassign SPOOL C:
esults.txt
Is there such a beast?
Thanks : )
i am creating a log file, and at 1 point I record how many rows are deleted after an update process.. I want to also record which productID are actually deleted... how would I write that?!
Basically I need know how I would get the list, and I am using PRINT command... I need to somehow write a loop that works through the list and PRINTS to the file....
Thanks in advance

thanks a lot!
Hi....Does anyone know if there is a similar command to SQL2K's DBCC ERRORLOG.
I'm currently writing a preventative maintenance script and want to force archiving of errorlogs. Any help greatly appreciated.
Hello-
I am getting a recurring error in my errorlog. This is the error:
"BlkHeader from strip 0 At 13531e00 ExpectedAt 13531e00 Size c00 PrevSize 200"
Has anyone seen this before?
Thanks,

I am trying to change the default number of SQL errorlogs from 6 to 12. Does anyone know how to change that?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just spent the better part of a full day trying to figure out why my MSSQLSERVER service wouldn't start. Finally, after someone suggested I check out "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server[Instance Name]LogErrorLog" I found my problem. I opened it up to find: (newbie mistake, I know now!!)
2005-12-21 19:27:46.60 server SQL Server evaluation period has expired
So I thought I would pass this onto everyone I can think of so you will not make the mistake I just did.
It would have been nice if Microsoft, like just about every other software company out there, would have been loud & obnoxious about their trial software expiring. Instead they have to put a poor newbie soul thru what I just went thru.
*sigh*
Well if I helped 1 person with this, I've done some good!
We are having problems printing Reports (when printing by clicking on the AcitiveX print control), where the font for the fields are set to "C39HrP24DhTt" (barcode).
While viewing the report it displays as Barcodes but while printing, the Barcode does not get printed, but the string gets printed.
Environment: SSRS 2005
Using the ReportViewer Control in a .Net 2.0 Web App to render the reports.
BarCodes print fine in the following situations:
1. When the Report is exported to Excel and when printed from there
2. When you click on the print button on Internet Explorer
3. When saving as html (from view source) and opening that html document and printing.
BarCodes do NOT get printed in the following situation:
1. When printing by clicking on the "Print" (Active X Control) icon. Even the "Print Preview" does not show the Barcode.
I need to move the errorlog files from the d: drive to the e: drive on my NT servers. Does anyone know a way to accomplish this without having to re-install?
Thanks

We're running SQL 6.5 SP3, we recycle our SQL server every day, somehow starting last December, the errorlog kept appending to the previous one
without starting a new log, and it keeps on growing,
any one knows anywhere I should look into ?
If SQL behaves properly, it should starts a new log after each recycle.
I checked from Technet this problem may occur in 4.2 but I haven't seen anything in 6.5....Thanks
Anthony
Considering email is setup, how would you send emails by scanning errorlog for any issues. Also, how to send program outputs using email.
Thanks
Hi.
I have a service on a server which contains Sql Server Express.
this service adds documents to the database to allow full text search features.
From some reason, the index crashes and than it writes to the ErrorLog file, the errorlog jumps to 20GB(!) causing the server to crash.
How can :
1. limit the size of the error log.
2. find out why the log jumps to this size (I can't open the error log file ofcourse...)
Thanks!
UPDATE #2: When it said "Do you want to install Microsoft SQL Server" I said "yes" and that caused it to work. I exited and re-ran and now the print runs w/o the "install SQL Server" (If the prompt had said "Do you want to install the print dialog" we wouldn't be having this discussion...)
UPDATE: After posting this i discovered that the same thing occurs when attempting to print the report direct from IE6: First a dialog pops up "Do you want to install this software?" Name: Microsoft SQL Server. When I click "Don't Install" I get the dialog "unable to load client print control." Since this happens direct from IE6 I suspect it's browser settings. I'll resume tomorrow and post a followup.
My WinForm C# app integrates Reporting Services by calling them from WebBrowser controls. The problem is attempts to print cause a dialog: "unable to load client print control."
I've read prior posts that say "enable Active-X in your browser" - I don't know how to do that from a WebBrowser control.
Any ideas how to support Reporting Services "Print" from within a WebBrowser control?

Hi
I was not able to connect to SQL Server machine. On examining the Error log (which was huge 53MB), I found the following messages that filled 95% of the logfile. Is this something to do with memory allocation.
Someone, please let me know what is going on. After the server reboot everything works fine.
I am worrired that this message may occur again.
Thanks
