Oct 20, 2005

Need help here, i had develop a simple system by using asp.net, but i need to connect to the sql server by using vb.net in the asp.net. I had try to create a sqlconnection object in the web form, and it work well in the microsoft studio.net with the connection string: "workstation id=EDDOM;packet size=4096;user id=sa;data source="EDDOMTARC";persist security info=False;initial catalog=TARCDB". i am able to view and connect to the sql server in the microsoft studio.net but when i try to access the login.aspx file by using the internet explorer, this problem occur:

[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

Sql Server Remote Connection Prob

Jun 5, 2007

hi sql team i've been reading much of the ms walkthroughs and some forum how they solve sql server 2005 (express) remote connection but non of them squared my problem.

in my case since we dont have in-house web server i need the script (ASP) run from our domain host/hoster and the sql database will be somewhere in our office. i try making a local (LAN) run of script just to test if the connection (asp-to-sql dbase) was established and im getting all things work.

OUT PUT
http://images.cjb.net/114e8.gif
http://images.cjb.net/343e3.gif

problem/nightmare comes when i access the test script through domain host with error:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

i tried using the following connection string thinking it will work for me but nothing seems happen:

test connection 1

cn.Open "Driver={SQL Server};" & _
"Server=www.gpzgroup.com;" & _
"Address=10.0.0.254,1433;" & _
"Network=DBMSSOCN;" & _
"Database=testdb;" & _
"Uid=xx;" & _
"Pwd=xx;"

test connection 2
cn.Open "Driver={SQL Server};" & _
"Server=live-static-ip;" & _
"Address=10.0.0.254,1433;" & _
"Network=DBMSSOCN;" & _
"Database=testdb;" & _
"Uid=xx;" & _
"Pwd=xx;"

test connection 3
cn.Open "Provider=sqloledb;Network Library=DBMSSOCN;" & _
"Data Source=10.0.0.254,1433;" & _
"Initial Catalog=testdb;" & _
"User ID=xx;Password=xx;"

where i am getting wrong at this point?

your response will be greatly appreciated thanks.

Aspclassic On IIS7 SQL 2005. ODBC SQL Server Driver[SQL Server]Cannot Open Database Requested By The Login. The Login Failed

Apr 16, 2008

Hi all,

Have just tried my sql server 2005 connected asp classic website on II7 for the first time and have gotten some errors.
First off I have unchecked show friendly errors in IE and have enabled ASP to send error messages to the browser.

My error I get is when I execute a basic .asp page:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot open database "mydatabasename" requested by the login. The login failed.
/index.asp, line 10 which is dbConnect.Open cstring

from this peice of code:

sub dbOpen()
set dbConnect = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
cstring = "DSN=mysqldsn; Trusted Connection=yes"
dbConnect.Open cstring
end sub

I have gone into ODBC and have setup both a user dsn and file dsn that equals mysqldsn and points to my database (I know you only need to set up one DSN but I'm not sure which)

I also notice under mywebsite home panel there is a connection string option. Do I do anything with that?

Definatley a lot more to it than XP's II6!

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

SQL Server 2014 :: Can Get User Windows Login When Using Server Login Authentication

Apr 26, 2015

Oracle and Teradata are able to capture the windows/client login that connects to their database with a functionnal ID.I've searched around and I don't think MS SQL can do this...I administer SQL 2014 server and also SAS Enterprise guide product. I've created sql server logins for several teams so everyone shares the same sql server login which is used to bind the SAS library to my SQL server database.

However, when looking at activity monitor, I can't drill down to which user is executing a particular query. I only see the SQL login which is share amongs 200 other folks.On the other hand, when they connect from SAS to Oracle or Teradata, I can see the shared login + additionally their windows NT login used to connect to SAS which is awesome....they can't fool me by using a shared/funcionnal ID....i still see who's using that ID...

Hi,

I have a script component. What it does, it queries the a table using a connectionstring assigned to it in the Connection Managers Editor (which is an ado.net adapter). this works fine when i'm using a windows login in the ado.net connection manager. But when i changed my connection to use SQL server login, I encounter this error:

SQL Server 2008 :: Login Failed For Login (DomainNameUserName) Due To Trigger Execution

Sep 23, 2015

All the logins with sysadmin role are locked out in one of the SQL server. Also in that instance Logon trigger is implemented which allows only certain users with Windows Authentication to logon.

This server is converted into single user mode by using command prompt. Now we are attempting to connect to SQLServer using command sqlcmd -S FTCPU3239 (since we do not have any other login) and create a new login with sysadmin role but are refused due to logon trigger. it says Login failed for login 'DomainNameUserName' due to trigger execution.

SQL Security :: Users Are Able To Login To Server Without Any Login Names Or Being Part Of A Group

Jun 5, 2015

I have a server that has 20 databases . I have tested with few users with different level of access and all of them were able to connect to the server and also see, select, update , delete from a particular database which is kind of weird because they do not have a user login associated or mapped to that database. I checked and no user is part of any group in AD that would give them permission to connect . I need a query that would find the permission path of a user. I already queried with xp_logininfo but I am not getting any thing.

Moved Aspnetdb To SQL Server - What Permissions Do I Need To Give The ASP IIS Service Account For That? (Getting: Cannot Open Database Aspnetdb Requested By The Login. The Login Failed.)

May 12, 2008

I am getting the error:
Cannot open database "aspnetdb" requested by the login. The login failed.
When I browse to my ASP.NET 3.5 LINQ web application on the IIS 6.0 server on Server 2003.
I imagine this is because while I granted SQL Server 2005 login and permissions to my database that the application stores its data in, I did NOT grant any rights to the service account the IIS Application Pool uses for its identity to the aspnetdb database on SQL Server which is where all my roles information is stored at.
My question is what are the MINIMUM permissions needed for this database so it can perform its roles related functions?
I'm using Windows Authentications with the SQL Role provider for authorization.

Thank you.

EDIT: I think I only need to open the aspnetdb database and add my login to the aspnet_Roles_FullAccess role.  Is that correct?

ASP.NET / SQL 2k Membership Prob

Jun 10, 2006

Almost have my custom membershipprovider finsihed, but have ran into a small snag.Scenario:: 2 methods. CreateUser(blah blah) and ValidateUserName(string username). CreateUserWizard control calls CreateUser(blah blah) which in the start of the method calls ValidateUserName(string username). ValidateUserName runs a stored procedure on SQL 2k to check and see if user exists in the db. Returns a bool true or false. If true, then everything works correctly and returns a message displaying that the user exists, please enter a different name.Now the problem. If it returns false, meaning that the username doesnt exist and is available to use, it calls a stored procedure to create the record in the users db. This is where the problem lies. It does NOTHING but sit there waiting. But it never seems to time out. If I comment out the validating. It will add a record successfully.Im wondering if it has something to do with calling 2 stored procedures consecutivly????::CODE TO FOLLOW::

Replication Prob.

Jun 26, 1998

I am having a problem replicating between 2 servers using 1 distributor. I have server X and server Y.
Server X is a publisher, distributor, and supposedly a subscriber, while server Y is a subscriber and
supposed publisher (using Server X as a remote distributor). My logreader task (off server X since
it is the distributor) gives me the error message "Unable to connect to server Y". I was pretty sure it
is possible to publish to the same server that is your distributor am I wrong? If I am not wrong and
this scenario is possible any ideas on why it isn`t working and how to get it working?

Thanks for the help in advance
