I have the same problem like Ben. Trying to connect to database engine but failed all the time. I use a SQL 2005 Enterprise Eval version. When I connect to database engine, I put <my computer name>SQLEXPRESS, it gives me this message:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)
I checked the sqlbrowser and it's running. I also enabled port 1434 in Firewall. But it still doesn't work. However, when I connect to analysis service using just <my computer name>, it lets me connected. I tried many ways to fix this problem but still no luck. Could anyone help me solve this problem please? Thanks so much.
hi, im totally new to this sql thing. i have a set of classes here and my objective is to show that they can connect to the database. how am i supposed to do this?
hello all the problem with me,im for the first time using SQL Server and ASP,so i have little knowledge baout these two progs.i want to know how pages in ASP are connected to databse. second, i installed SQL Server2005 along with asp from the same CD(option of instalation of both was available). There is also a way use SQL Server within the ASP Environment(addnew itmes>sqldatabase>). Question: if i create a databse through above method. then how i will use it in asp.net.Although i can do it by draging "SQL Data sourcr" from "Data" category in the "toolbox"however, i want to manually connect the application to Db.Something like this Page_load(0 { //db connection code goes here.//sqlcommand goes here. con.open() } i want some controls like txtboxes and label to manualy connect to databse tables. plz someone forward the code,
Please i have a question, I want to use temporary tables to handle my forms child tables data.
My question is after i load the data from #temporary table to my dataset then i will close my database connection. Does my temporary tables gets dropped off as soon as i do the connection.close.
or do i need to drop the #temporary table by code.
Which one is right.
I know #temporary tables are specific to the users(session)
In SSIS package development environment, I was able to connect to an oracle database and pull data into my sql server database. I installed the client tools for oracle and I put an entry into the tnsnames.ora and I was able to connect.
But in production environment, if I deploy the package on sql server, I was wondering if I had to do the same job of downloading the oracle client tools onto my production machine --which creates a tnsnames.ora file to it default location and then edit it with tthe tns entry-- or is there a better way to do this--avoiding the download?
The application server gets below error while the job is being run intermittently:
An error occurred while performing connection management
com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: The connection is closed. at com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException.makeFromDriverError(SQLServerException.java:171) at com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerConnection.checkClosed(SQLServerConnection.java:319) at com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerConnection.prepareStatement(SQLServerConnection.java:1839)
I got the sql2005 std edition at the msdn rollout, and the vs2005 studio. I uninstalled sql2000 and now, cannot connect to the database engine.
I get the following error message with a link to an page that offers no info. What's up and how can I get it to work? Please, help.

Our application installs requiring several SQL servers. Some of the SQL Servers need CLR dlls to be installed. We would like to not run the installer apps on the SQL server machines. Is there any way to use the SQL server connection to install the DLLs?
These dlls are the only reason to run the installer apps on the SQL server machines. To do this would simplify daily installation in all of the various build and test environments.
This would be preferable to using mapped drives etc.
We have a need for getting data from sqlserver DB on premise to the cloud. DB is not encrypted currently, other applications are accessing it but those applications are on premise. Following link talks about encrypted connection, but is it possible to encrypt only one of the port connection. we can add a custom port.URL...
Preface, I am just starting to learn about database and web development.
I installed VS.net 2005 which updated my web site project file and automatically attached it to a database. It connected to ".app_dataaspnetdb.mdf". However it messed something up and the connection didn't work. If I create a project from scratch, it connects to its DB just fine, but not my upgraded project.
However, when I publish my web site, I need to use ODBC. So, my thought was to simply set up the system locally in a way that will make it easy to connect on the web site. I was told to add a system DSN to the "Microsoft ODBC Administrator". I tried to add a "SQL Server" and give it the database name but it failed to connect.
So, then I ran the SQL Server Configuration Manager and looked at the server properties and found this string under the advanced -> startup parameters.."-dc:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDATAmaster.mdf;-ec:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLLOGERRORLOG;-lc:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDATAmastlog.ldf"
My database is in an entirely different folder. The database it looks like it is servicing is a "master.mdf" database installed under the SQL server install folder. So, I figured that I found my problem. I just have to change this file to map to mine. I replaced these three strings with paths to my aspnetdb.mdf/ldf files, and created a LOG folder. Howwever, it wasn't able to connect to this database. It said something like "it doesn't exist or you don't have permission", even though I gave it the right path.
So, I'm at a loss for how to get my application to be able to use the ODBC interface to connect to its very own database on my local system.
i installed the MSDE2000A on server and i tried to connect from client machine through vb Application using connection string. Server anad client are in LAN. but Some systems able to connect and some systems are unable to connect.
i am getting the error:
"SqlServer does not exist or access denied "
for non connected machines.
the server is listening from these machines. but not connecting to MSDE.
can anyone give me solution what may be the cause.
Is there any specific event i have to select in SQL profiler to monitor the process / user that kills active connection which is performing a batch data transfer. Any other alternative other than profiler that catches this (like XEvents)?

I unable to setup a linked server on sql server 2012. The destination server is on sql server 7.0. I can able to setup the same linked server on sql 2005 sp4 and sql 2008 r2 but unable to setup on 2012. I am getting the below error message. connecting to a SQL Server Instance. I have a SQL server DB on a server having an Instance not running on the default port. Let's say ServerAInstanceA has the services exposed on Port 12345. When I'm trying to connect to ServerAInstanceA without specifying the port number, while I can connect from one client machine (ClientA), I am unable to connect from a different client machine (ClientB).On a side note, when I provide the port number, I can connect both from clients A and B. My question is, when I do not provide the port number, why is one client machine able to connect while the other isn't?
I have met a problem in the ASP.NET project creation with SQL Server Database Connection. "Can't Login to My ServerName/ASPNET How to solve the problem?
Hi , I just put my files up on a web server. I can view my aspx pages..but when I try to login to the website I get the following; An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) Can you help? I can understand that it cannot find the specified instance of sql server, however I don't remember ever configuring it look to at a specific sql server. When i created the site in web dev express edition and added the login controls and set the asp config tool to use internet security it created the database itself and so I didn't have to put a connection string in. I also cannot see a connection string in tthe web.config file. The aspnetdb.mdf file is there on the server. is this something i need to configure with the hosting company or do i set it in my webconfig file. Thanks
I need to create some tables dynamically using sp_executesql. But the problem is the length of sql string is more the 4000 characters. How can I solve this problem? Thanks

We have a config table which has columns like pollingfolder, cop to folder etc. Data looks like this Config id polling folder 1 d:dataloadacn 2 d:dataloadship under ACN and Ship folders we can have more than 1 source files which had to be loaded into target the load process has to be repeated for each file in all the folders like ACN and ship I have used for each loop container to poll the folder. Can we set the directory to be polled at runtime taking from config table. For doing this I have used the property Directory in expression editor of for each loop. But it is not working. If I hard code the variable value in variables section , then its working. How to change the directory to be polled value at runtime?

I have two data sets but from the same data source. I created two different tables from these two data sets. Now I want to include a chart too. But When I insert the chart, it gives a erorr message.
The dinfinition of the report/my report name is invalid. More than one data set, data region or grouping in the report has the name'chart1_seriesgroup1'. data set, data region and grouping names must be unique within a report.
Hi there,I sincerely hope that someone out there can help. I have twoinstances of the SQL 2000 Desktop Engine running. One is on my localmachine for development and the other is on another machine on ournetwork which is the production environment. I have built an Access2003 front end application which connects to this database. Thisworks fine locally, as you would expect. I successfully installed thedatabase on the production machine and am able to connect to it viaAccess 2003 (using the Data Link Properties window) and from thirdparty database manager software (similar to Enterprise Manager). I amnot able to to connect to the database via my application.I am using the "sa" account with a strong password. This is myconnection string:strConnection = "Provider=sqloledb;DataSource=server02;UserId=sa;Password=strong;Initial Catalog=Test"The error I'm getting is:"Connection cannot be used to perform this operation. It is eitherclosed or invalid in this context."The connection string is the only thing that changes in my code when Iswitch from my local to my production database. Is there some reasonthat I can't use the "sa" account in this fashion that I'm not awareof? I'd rather not use integrated security for simplicity's sake asthis is a small, internal application. Also, I would have thoughtthat if that was the issue, I couldn't use "sa" at all, even locally.I'm going to post to the Access group as well but thought someone heremight have some advice to offer as well. Thanks,Barb
Someone, please help me understand: I have the following code: Dim conString As String = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("WebAllianceConnectionString").ConnectionStringDim dsrc As New SqlDataSource()dsrc.ConnectionString = conStringdsrc.SelectCommandType = SqlDataSourceCommandType.StoredProceduredsrc.CancelSelectOnNullParameter = Falsedsrc.SelectCommand = "sp_GetCustomerInvoiceList"dsrc.SelectParameters.Clear()dsrc.SelectParameters.Add("@QueryType", "DATE")dsrc.SelectParameters.Add("@CustCode", "BAM7")dsrc.SelectParameters.Add("@OrdNumber", " ")dsrc.SelectParameters.Add("@InvStartDate", "1/1/2005")dsrc.SelectParameters.Add("@InvStopDate", "1/31/2005")dsrc.SelectParameters.Add("@PONumber", " ")Return dsrc.Select(DataSourceSelectArguments.Empty) When this runs, it throws an exception:Prodecure or Function 'sp_GetCustomerInvoiceList' expects parameter '@QueryType', which was not supplied. I'm confused... I clearly added that using the .Add method? What am I doing wrong?
has anyone had a problem restoring a SQL 2000 without sp1 to a SQL 2000 sp1 box or vice versa? I have had 2 failures telling me to call MS support in the message?
hi everyone, How do i declare a global variable in my package which takes a numeric value like User::VAR1 = 200402 and later on work on it
Later in the properties of the Dataflow i want to have this expression..
"select * from " + "TAB1" + " where Date=" + @[User::VAR1]
Here i want to subtract 190000 from @[User::VAR1] to get it in to myformat i.e the DATE format in the table
I can only see String datatype and othe datatypes wont allow me to to do any kind of manipulation in the expression: and to be more specific what are Int16 Int32 Int64 Double
I tried to use all of the above but the expression doesnt allow me as once i use any of the above it says :
