Problem Installing SQL Mobile 2005 Tools

Jan 13, 2006

I'm trying to install the SQL Mobile 2005 Server tools on a Windows 2003
Server with IIS & MSSQL 2000 sp4.

I've stuck .NET 2.0 on already, but the installer for the server tools
Sqlce30setupen.msi just goes straight to the last page of the wizard and says
the install was interrupted.

I've run the install with logging turned on and this is the last portion of
the trace. Can anyone shed any light on whats going wrong.

Installing SQL Mobile 2005

May 9, 2007

It is possible to install the .NET Compact Framework from the desktop with a .msi file.

However, SQL Mobile 2005 seems to require you to know the processor which your mobile device uses - there are only CAB files available to do the install.

Have Microsoft made an MSI file available to make this process easier?

Problems Installing SQL 2005 Client Tools

Mar 13, 2008

HI
I have recently installed a copy of SQL server 2005 on to a windows 2003 server. During the install I selected to install the client tools (management studio and all that) all seemed to install ok no errors but after the install there is no management studio in the start menu. I have tried uninstalling the client tools and reinstalling them again I have also tried to launch management studio by browsing to the SqlWb.exe but the program fails to initialise any ideas?

(both SQL and Windows are at SP2)

Thanks

Problems Installing SQL Server 2005 Mobile On Device

Dec 24, 2005

I have a Fujitsu-Siemens LOOX 520 running WM 5 version 5.1.70 on which I am trying to create a Server 2005 Mobile database.

I have installed the following files on the Pocket PC after a hard reset to make sure the unit was in its vanilla state:

NETCFv2.wm.armv4i.cab

sqlce30.dev.ENU.ppc.wce5.armv4i.CAB

sqlce30.ppc.wce5.armv4i.CAB

sqlce30.repl.ppc.wce5.armv4i.CAB

All the files appeared to succesfully install. Connecting to the device in VS2005 works with no problems. Creating a small test app in VB.NET and running it on the device works no problems, so the device is satisfactorily connected to VS2005.

My problem is this:

When I try to create an SQL Server 2005 Mobile database on the device using Add Connection under the Data Sources window in Visual Studio 2005 Professional (RTM version), I get the following error:

"Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition and/or .NET Compact Framework v2.0 is not properly installed on your mobile device or the device is not responding."

Trying the same thing in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio gives the same error, but a little bit of extra information:

"Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition and/or .NET Compact Framework v2.0 is not properly installed on your mobile device or the device is not responding. (SQL Server Mobile Edition ADO.NET Data Provider)"

As far as I can see, everything IS installed OK, so why is VS2005 not working?

Thanks for any help.

Installing SQL Server 2005 Management Tools - Setup Crashing Repeatedly

Mar 18, 2008

I'm having many many issues installing sql server management tools. i had visual studio 2005 installed first, but uninstalled and sql related things before trying to install sql server management tools again - i also deleted the program files/microsoft sql server/ folder so there are no references.

Firstly the system configuration check gives me a warning that the system doesn't meet the recommended hardware requirements - this is wrong... i've got 2.33Ghz dual core + 1gb of ram...

I select just management tools + client connectivity to install and click next -> the setup support files/native client/owc11 etc all install fine but workstation components etc fail and the setup log appears to either be empty and not available
and MSXML6 fails... after clicking finish the installer appears to crash - : "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"... I have tried all sorts of variations on this install and have had no problems in the past - please help!

Help With Installing VS Tools

Jan 11, 2007

Hi,

I have a problem with the installation of SSCE31VSTools-ENU.exe into VS2005. The installation ended after a few seconds although in the event log there is information that the product is successfuly installed. However, when I run Visual studio there is no project under Smart Device regarding SQL Compact database or something similar (there are only templates for: device application, class library, control library, console application, empty project and nothing more)

VS2005 is in this version 8.0.50727.762 (SP.050727-7600)

In application event log there is: Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Tools for Visual Studio 2005 [ENU] -- Configuration completed successfully.'"

Has anyone some idea if there is a problem or how to create SQL Compact database?

Thank you

SQL Server Mobile 2005 Merge Replication Problem On Windows Mobile 5.0

Aug 8, 2006

Dear ppl,

I am writing an application for a device (MDA Pro T-Mobile) having Windows Mobile 5.0 using

-MS .NET Compact Framework 2.0 SP-1
-SQL Mobile 2005.
-VS 2005 .NET

The application uses Merge Replication. The error occurs in the Synchronise() Method of the SqlCeReplication object.

"SQL Server Mobile encountered problems when opening the database."

repl.AddSubscription(AddOption.CreateDatabase);
repl.Synchronize();

I don't understand why I am having this error. It does create the database on AddSubscription() method but it is failing opening the database on Synchronise(). I have also tried uninstalling and then reinstalling all the SQL Mobile components in the following order.

-sqlce30.wce5.armv4i.cab
-sqlce30.repl.wce5.armv4i.cab
-sqlce30.dev.ENU.wce5.armv4i.cab

However, when i run this application on a device(Dell X50 AXIM) with Pocket PC 2003, it runs fine creating the database and sysnchronising it.

The target platform for the project is Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC SDK.

Does any one have any clue what could be the problem ?

Regards
Nabeel

SQL Mobile 2005 Replication - SQL Mobile DLL Could Not Be Loaded - Error 28559

Jun 15, 2006

I am migrating a pocket PC application from VS 2003 to VS 2005 and a few weeks ago I hit the following problem when replicating

A SQL Mobile DLL could not be loaded. Reinstall SQL Mobile. [ DLL Name=sqlceca30.dll]

Scanning forums for help I saw that other people had had this problem and one

http://www.eggheadcafe.com/aspnet_answers/NETFrameworkCompactFramework/Feb2006/post25814466.asp

suggested that this problem could be circumvented by getting the replication object early and then continuously using the same object for subsequent replications.

I did this and it works a lot better now but ever so often I get another error which is

Native Error 28559 SQL Mobile encountered problems when opening the database

My only option at this point is to stop and start the application which cures the problem.

Problem Using SQL Server Mobile 2005 With Windows Mobile 5 Application

Mar 23, 2006

Hello,

I am developping a non-managed C++ application for PocketPC using a SQL Server mobile database.

The application is compiled for PocketPC 2003 and uses SQL Server Mobile v2. I use Visual Studio 2005. But I need to compile the application for Windows Mobile 5.0 devices. So I installed the WM5 SDK and had the WM5 into my project configuration.

The "ssceoledb.h" which I include incluses the "transact.h" file. But my problem is that this file is only provided with the PocketPC 2003 SDK and not in the WM5 SDK.
So I cannot use the WM5 configuration project with SQL Server. I also tried with the last SQL Server Mobile 2005 (ie v3.0) and the "ssceoledb30.h" also includes "transact.h".

Did I miss something to install ?
Do you know how I can resolve the problem ?

By advance, thank you for any answer.

Having Trouble While Installing Sql Mobile 3.0 On WM5

Jun 19, 2007

Hi,

In order to deploy a corporate application on WM 5 devices, I've built an autorun.exe that performs some calls to wceload.exe to install cab files.

Everything is installing correctly, except SQL Mobile 3.0 (and its replication library). Here is the files the autorun.exe installs :
compact framework 2.0 SP1 (NETCFv2.wm.armv4i.cab)
french strings (System_SR_FR.cab)
Sql mobile 3.0 (sqlce30.ppc.wce5.armv4i.CAB)
Sql Mobile 3.0 replication (sqlce30.repl.ppc.wce5.armv4i.CAB)
and also app cabs (app.cab, app2.cab, etc...)

The command line I execute in the autorun.exe is this one :

wceload.exe fullpath_to_cab_file.cab /silent

when I run this command line, I get no error (exit code of wceload.exe is 0).
Bu when I run the application (a C# app) I get an error that one the assembly cannot be loaded.
A further investigations later, I discovered that if I install sql mobile (the two cab files) by clicking on the cab on the device through files explorer, not only I get no error while installing, but also the application works correctly.

So I have two questions :
1. what can be possible reasons that make the autorun.exe fails to install Sql Mobile ?
2. In a more general way, how can I correctly handle wceload errors ?

FYI, I don't care about certificates, since the chosen device is a device where the security has been turned off.
Another precision : the final users won't have access to a computer to deploy the app. That's why I choose to use an autorun.exe file.

Thanks in advance,
Steve

Installing SQL Server Management Tools

Dec 10, 2007

I have been trying for 2 days now to get the SQL Server management tools installed on client machines. I'm starting to think it is not possible to do that the way we used to be able to with previous versions of SQL Server. I have installed 3rd party open source software on my own machine so that I can query the database without logging onto the server directly and would like for my co-workers to be able to do the same. As I mentioned we tried the SQL Server Management studio and all we get is a message saying to uninstall all the beta and Visual Studio *** on our machines. We stripped one machine all the way down to the OS and still kept getting that message so I'm guessing it is some new Windows Vista issue that makes SQL Server 2005 client tools completely incompatible with XP. However, we are not going to bow to Microsoft's evil ways and upgrade to their new OS just to use the SQL Server Studio. If need be I will write my own software to workaround this problem. In the meantime, can anyone recommend some good 3rd party tools that will allow us to query the SQL Server 2005 database on a server and preferably one that does not require all other software be removed first?

Installing IIS After Installing SQL Server 2005 And Visual Studio 2005 Help Requested!

Aug 31, 2007

Hi all, Im new here so il start with a little introduction of myself, My name is Arjan im 19 years old from Holland, and i work for a company to compleet my ICT Education.

My situation:

My boss gave me a server with server 2003 standard and Sql server 2005 and visual studio 2005 installed already, he asked me if i could figure out how the 'new' reporting services work, Im pretty new to SQL and the reporting service but i figured out i had to install asp.net / frameworks and IIS.

So right now i wanna start the Reporting Services Configuration Manager and i get an error that says 'Invalid namespace' and when im trying to approach by using my browser i get 'page not found' so obviously their is Alot wrong. I asked my boss if i could not reinstall everything and do it in the correct order (IIS / ASP.net / Frameworks before installing SQL server 2k5 but that was not an option because we dont seem to have the cd's anymore.

The server is not connected to any network or the internet.

My Question:

Is their any way to fix this? and if yes could anyone tell me where to start

Thanks in Advance!

ps if their is information or logs that u need in order to help me just say so :-)

-Arjan

Problem Installing SSQL Server 2000 Client Tools

Sep 13, 2007

Hi,

I'm trying to re-install SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine andSQL Server client tools. I have succesfully re-installed the desktop engine, but I am getting the following error message when attempting to re-install theclient tools.

"Setup has detected an existing client tools only installation.
Please use the maintenance mode to add client components"

Unfortunately the Upgrade/Add/Remove option is greyed out as
an install option.

I attempted the registry hive rebuild option and the install appeared
to succeed. However, I cannot access any tools (Enterprise Manager
comes up with the message "The selected file cannot be found").

At this point, the desktop engine appears in Add/Remove programs
Window, but no other SQL Server components.

Any help very much appreciated!

Eric Yeoman.

The Feature(s) Specified Are Not Valid For This Edition Of SQL Server Error When Installing Management Tools On Win 2003 X64

May 23, 2007

I've successfully installed SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition on an Enterprise edition of Windows Server 2003 x64. I'm now (and also tried & failed during the install of the database engine) attempting to install the "Management Tools" component on the same server. However, in all my attempts to do so, I receive the following error:

---

The feature(s) specified are not valid for this edition of SQL Server

---

The message box does not list the features that are not valid but since the only item I've selected to install is the "Management Tools" option under "Client Components" it obviously points to something with that.

Am I missing something or are the Management Tools not supported in my config - most notably SQL Server 2005 Standard edition running on Windows Server 2003 x64?

Thanks.

SQL Server Mobile Server Tools On Mutiple Servers ?

Nov 6, 2007

Hello,

I want to load-balance my PDAs accessing my database to make a merge replication.
As I have one server with the SQL Server Mobile Server Tools installed, can I configure some of these PDAs to use another server with SQL Server Mobile Server Tools to point on the same Database server?
Is it going to work or will it generate problems?

Thanks for your help,

Ben.

Visual Baisc 2005 Express Edition And SQL 2005 Database Diagram Tools

Jan 29, 2008

Hi,

I have created a database using VB Express 2005 express edition and I have created number of tables and SP's etc.

I am trying to use the database diagram tool but I get an error stating that the database doesn't have a valid dbo. I say yes to the prompt about making myself a valid dbo but I then get a message stating that I do not have permissions to imprersonate the dbo.

How do I overocome this issue?

Thanks

How Do I Measure Bandwith Usage For Merge Replication SQL 2005 To Sql Server Mobile 2005?

Jan 24, 2007

Hi,

Is there any way to measure bandwith usage during merge replication between sql server 2005 and sql server mobile 2005 running on a cradled wm5 mobile device.

Attaching the windows performance monitor to the network connection established over usb would work although I was wondering if there was something specific for this case integrated into Sql server 2005 / sql server mobile 2005 / Sql server management studio / third party tools that i could use ?

thnx,

pdns.

SQL Server Standard 2005, SQL Mobile 2005 Data Encryption Issues

Jul 26, 2007

Hi,

I have a central database server that is runnning on SQL 2005 standard edition and Windows server 2003 standard as OS.

I realise that I can use SQL statements to encrypt and decrypt the data inside the standard SQL.

However, how do I read and write the data via an web application coded in C#.net and is also running on the same machine?

Another issue is, I need to replicate some of the data in this SQL standard over to a SQL mobile running on a mobile device running on Windows CE 5.0.

The mobile device also needs to read and write data to the encrypted data via a C#.net application.

Question is, with all these requirements to be met, can I use AES? I know that AES is not available on Windows XP and Windows Server 2000 and I cant find AES in the .net compact framework.

how do i go about ensuring security? how do I ensure that the symmetric key is the same both on the SQL standard and SQL mobile?

thank you.
