Hi i am trying to do a straight forward load from a Flatfile source , i have defined the columns according to the lenghts defined in the Data Dictionary Provided but when i am trying to run the Task i am encounterring this error

The column data for column "Column 20" overflowed the disk I/O buffer.

I tried to add another column 21 at the end and truncate or leave that column unmapped to destination but the same problem occurs for column 21 what should i do to over come this .

SSIS ERROR : Overflowed The Disk I/O Buffer, DTS_E_PRIMEOUTPUTFAILED

Nov 1, 2007

Hi,
I get folllwing error while SSIS package is executing and uploading Data from Flat Files to SQL Server 2005. This Error goes away when I change my SSIS Package Connection Manager to read UNICODE data files.
Is there any smart way to figure out which flat files have UniCode Data in the and which is not a Unicode data file.

Thanks,
Vinod

Data For Source Column 3('Col3') Is Too Large For The Specified Buffer Size.

Aug 24, 2007

Hi,

I have a problem to import xls file to sql table, using MS SQL 2000 server.
Actual main problem associated with it is xls file contain one colum having large amount of text which length is approximate 1500 characters.
I am trying to resolve it through like save xls to csv or text file then import but it also can not copy whole text of that column, like any column in xls having 995 characters then text or csv file contain 560 characater. So, it is also wrong.

thanks in advance, if any try to resolve

DTS Error: Data For Source Column 2 (‘column_name) Is Too Large For The Specified Buffer Size.

Oct 4, 2005

Hi,

I’m attempting to use DTS to import data from a Memo field in MS Access (Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider) into a SQL Server nvarchar(4000) field.  Unfortunately, I’m getting the following error message:

Error at Source for Row number 30. Errors encountered so far in this task: 1.
Data for source column 2 (‘Html’) is too large for the specified buffer size.

I also get this error message when attempting to import the same data from Excel.

Per the MS Knowledgebase article located at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281517, I changed the registry property indicated to 0.  This modification did not help.

Per suggestions in other SQL Server forums, I moved the offending row from row number 30 to row number 1.  This change only resulted in the same error message, but with the row number indicated as “Row number 1â€?.  (Incidentally, the data in this field is greater than 255 characters in every row, so the cause described in the Knowledgebase article doesn’t seem to be my problem).

You might also like to know that the data in the Access table was exported into this table from a SQL Server nvarchar(4000) field.

Does anybody know what might trigger this error message other than the data being less than 255 characters in the first eight rows (as described in the KB article)?

I’ve hit a brick wall, so I’d appreciate any insight. Thanks in advance!

Script Component As Source: The Value Is Too Large To Fit In The Column Data Area Of The Buffer.

Jan 17, 2008

In my quest to get the Script Component as Source to work, I've come upon an error that says "The value is too large to fit in the column data area of the buffer.". Of course, I went through the futile attempt to get debugging to work. After struggling and more searching, I found that I need to run Dts.Events.FireProgress to debug in a Script Component. However, despite the fact that the script says:

Code Block
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.Wrapper
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime

...

Dts.Events.FireProgress..

I get a new error saying: Error 30451: Name 'Dts' is not declared. Its like I am using the wrong namespace, but all documentation indicates that Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.Wrapper is the correct namespace. I understand that I can use System.Windows.Form.MessageBox.Show, but iterating through 100 items makes this too cumbersome. Any idea what I may be missing now?

Thanks,

Loading Data Using Ole Db Source With Input Source Being A View

Dec 13, 2007

I was trying to load data using SSIS, Data Flow Task, OLE DB Source, source was a view to a OLE DB Destination (SQL Server). This view returns 420,591 rows from Query Analyzer in 21 seconds. Row length is 925. When I try to executed the Data Flow Task from SSIS, I had to stop the process after 30 minutes, because only 2,000 rows had been retrieved. I modified the view to retun top 440, 000 and reran. This time all 420, 591 rows were retrieved and written in 22 seconds. Next, I tried to use a TOP 100 Percent. Again, only 2,000 rows were return after 30 minutes. TempDB is on a separate SAN Raid group with 200 gig free, Databases on a separate drive with 200 gig free. Server has 13 gig of memory and no other processes were executing.

The only way I could populate the table was by using an Execute SQL Task and hard code an Insert into table selecting data from the view (35 seconds) from SSIS.

Have anyone else experience this or a similar issue? Anyone have a solutionexplanation?

Value Is Too Large To Fit In Column Data Area Of The Buffer

I'm not sure how to resolve this.

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.sqlserver.dts.pipeline.buffercolumn.maxlength(SQL.90).aspx

how do I change the maxlength of the buffer...if, that is the problem here?

The Value Is Too Large To Fit In The Column Data Area Of The Buffer.

Feb 6, 2007

I am getting the following error on my SSIS package. It runs a large amount of script components, and processes hundred of thousands of rows.

The exact error is: The value is too large to fit in the column data area of the buffer.

I redirect the error rows to another table. When I run just those records individually they import without error, but when run with the group of 270,000 other records it fails with that error. Can anyone point me to the cause of this issue, how to resolve, etc.

Thanks.

The Value Is Too Large To Fit In The Column Data Area Of The Buffer?

Jan 29, 2008

I have a variable nvarchar(1000) that I ma reading into the buffer of a data flow task in the script component script task. It gives me this error:
"Script component exception.........The value is too large to fit in the column data area of the buffer."

I looked at the BufferColumn members and tried to set the maxlength to 1500. But it does not help.

What is the solution?

Can someone tell me how to access the MaxLength property of a data column so I can figure out where the problem is?

Try

Row.PrimaryDiagnosis = Mid(Row.DiagnosisCode, 1, 8)

Catch ex As Exception

Row.Comments = "Error copying DiagnosisCode: <" + Row.DiagnosisCode + ">. " + ex.Message

End Try

Output = <aaaaa >

Conversion Failed Because The Data Value Overflowed The Specified Type

Apr 29, 2008

Hi All,

I am facing very weird issue...

When i am running package thru SQL server job and getting follwing error:

SIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "Invalid character value for cast specification". An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "Invalid character value for cast specification".
There was an error with input column "Billing_date" (2568) on input "OLE DB Destination Input" (979). The column status returned was: "Conversion failed because the data value overflowed the specified type.".
SSIS Error Code DTS_E_INDUCEDTRANSFORMFAILUREONERROR. The "input "OLE DB Destination Input" (979)" failed because error code 0xC020907A occurred, and the error row disposition on "input "OLE DB Destination Input" (979)" specifies failure on error. An error occurred on the specified object of the specified component. There may be error messages posted before this with more information about the failure.
SSIS Error Code DTS_E_PROCESSINPUTFAILED. The ProcessInput method on component "billing_table" (966) failed with error code 0xC0209029. The identified component returned an error from the ProcessInput method. The error is specific to the component, but the error is fatal and will cause the Data Flow task to stop running. There may be error messages posted before this with more information about the failure.
SSIS Error Code DTS_E_THREADFAILED. Thread "WorkThread0" has exited with error code 0xC0209029.

In the package, i am selecting data from SQL Server database into query(billing_table) and inserting data using destination task into SQL server table(stg_billing_table). Both table has same data type datetime for Billing_date.

Here are couple of points:

1) When i am trying to execute same insert statement thru SQL Server editor, it is running successfully.

INSERT INTO stg_billing_table (Billing_date)
SELECT Billing_date FROM stg_billing_table;

2) When I am running package from Solution explorer then also it works fine.

Issue only comes when i try to run package thru SQL server job. one point, There are lot of other task running parallel to this package when we run thru JOB.

One more thing which i have observed that when i tried to see input transformation datatype for same column in package, it is DT_DATABASETIMESTAMP. Well i am not able to understand that it may be potential issue because if it is related to DT_DATABASETIMESTAMP to date time conversion then we should have faced this issue while running thru solution IDE.

Issue looks related to database level buffer/ Memory overflow etc. to me. Can somebody help me understanding the issue?

Thanks.

3. Execute the transformation on the SQL2000 server, for the same Access DB, to the initial SQL 2000 DB : OK, no error.

Questions:

- Do you have an idea of what differs between SQL2000 and SQL2005 in this kind of situation?
- Why is this working for 2000 and not 2005?
- Why the error message says "output column "ID" (32) on output "OLE DB Source Output" (11). ". Shouldn't it be something like "output column "ID" (32) on input "ID" (11). " (with the second ID column for the SQL DB).
- May be the error comes from my connections parameters, one parameter which doesn't exists in SQL2000?

Design For Loading Data Without Knowlged Of Datatype Or Column Count

Jul 17, 2006

I am loading data from an external source into SQL Server via ASP.NET/C#. The problem is that I do not necessarily know the data types of each column coming in, perhaps until a user tells the application, which might not occur until after the data is loaded. Also, I cannot anticipate the number of columns coming in. What would table design look like?
Would you use a large table with enough columns (e.g. Column1, Column2, etc.) reasonable enough to accomodate all the columns that the source might have (32?), and use nchar as the datatype with the plan to convert/cast when I use the data? Isn't the cast kind of expensive?
Does this make sense? Surely other foplks have run into this....
My thanks!

SQL 2012 :: Disabling Column Store Index And Try Loading Data

Oct 17, 2015

We have a typical issue with Column Store Index, we have a procedure which does 2 activities - Switch & Reverse Switch

Switch:
1. Fetch the Partitions needed to be switched
2. Switch the data from Main Table to Switch table
2. Disable the Column store on Switch table

SSIS Package:
3. Load data to Switch (Insert / Update)

Reverse Switch:
4. Enable the Switch
5. Switch back the data from Switch table to Main table

Issue: Some time the Column store is not getting disabled, and the package fails complaining try disabling the Column store index and try loading data.

If we re-run the procedure, the column store gets disabled.

Overflow The Disk I/O Buffer

Jul 9, 2007

Hello,

I am getting "overflow the disk I/O buffer" in my SSIS, and what's weird is that when I construct the same SSIS in a new package, it works perfectly. I almost want to believe that it could be a bug. Some days when I import the files, it works fine, but some days it errors out with this error on the last column. Is there some setting with CR/LF or LF that I have to pay attention to avoid this type of random error?

Thanks for your help!

Data Source Column Discovery At Runtime? Help Much Appreciated

May 10, 2006

Hi -- I am fairly new to SSIS development, although I am starting to appreciate it more an more, especially since I have started getting into extending the object model. Here's my question:

I have a data flow that pulls data from any number of different delimited files with different numbers of columns. I have had no problem dealing with setting up run-time file locations and file names by using the expressions of a flat file data source, and i have been able to pretty easily deal with varying file delimiters by standardizing the files before they get into the data flow. however, I have not been able to come up with a solution that will allow my data source to discover its column info at run time, and then pass that information on to the data flow task. all i really care about is being able to properly parse the individual rows into individual column data by the flat file data source because the data flow itself is able to discover the actual data that the columns hold at run-time.

i would very much appreciate any feedback from anyone on possible solutions for this.

thanks!

Amo And Creating Data Source And Data Source View Code

Hi
In this code how can I create a new data source and new data source view and model and structure that it run dynamic.
In this code I have a lot of errors, that they are about server and database don€™t have in current code,
In this code, first I should definition server or no?

How Do I Add An ODBC Connection Data Source As A Data Flow Source

Mar 2, 2007

I have set up a new connection as a connection from data source, but I cannot see how to use this connection to create my Data Flow Source. I have tried using an OLE DB connection, but this is painfully slow! The process of loading 10,000 rows takes 14 - 15 minutes. The same process in Access using SQL on a linked table via DSN takes 45 seconds.

Have I missed something in my set up of the OLE DB source / connection? Will a DSN source be faster?

Thanks in advance

Master Data Services :: Error Code 8 While Loading Data From MDS Stage To Model

Apr 22, 2015

I am getting ErrorCode 8 while loading the data from stage to model. I have checked my error view it states that "Member Code is Inactive".

Initially I have loaded same set of data in Model from MDS Stage table but then deleted with ImportType = 5 which removed all the data from the MDM model.

Now i want to load it back but its giving the Error Code 8 ..  Before loading the same data i have changed the stage table Importtype to 2 and Importstatusid to 0.

Error: Unable To Retrieve Column Information From The Data Source

Jul 7, 2006

Hi,

I am trying to set up a data flow task. The source is "SQL Command" which is
a stored procedure. The proc has a few temp tables that it outputs the final
resultset from. When I hit preview in the ole db source editor, I see the
right output. When I select the "Columns" tab on the right, the "Available
External Column List" is empty. Why don't the column names appear? What is
the work around to get the column mappings to work b/w source and
destination in this scenario.

In DTS previously, you could "fool" the package by first compiling the
stored procedure with hardcoded column names and dummy values, creating and
saving the package and finally changing the procedure back to the actual
output. As long as the columns remained the same, all would work.
Thats not working for me in SSIS.

Thanks in advance.
Asim.

Data Missing When Loading Data Into Sql Server 2005

Jan 17, 2008

Hi, Experts

The project is a C/S data analysis system built with .Net 2.0 in windows environment, OS: Microsoft Windows 2003 R2 standard Edition Service Pack2, Database used in this project is: Sql server 2005. As a data analysis system, we need to load large amount of data from file to database, we do it by create a dts package and then do data loading by execute "m_Package.Execute(null, variables, m_PackageEvents, null, null)".

The problem is, we fount that DTS miss some data randomly sometimes, we can't find the rule till now. for example we've data as follows in data file, all data field splited by '|'

We found that some of the data field become 'null' after the load action finished, if we load the same data again, problem disappeared, we can't 100% reproduce this issue each time, we don't know why, Anybody here can help us to solve this issue or give us some clue?

SSIS Randomly Empties Out Column Data While Using Flat File Source

Jan 12, 2007

I'm having a problem using the Flat File Source while using the underlying .Net classes to execute SSIS Packages. The issue is that for some reason when I load a flat file it Empty's out columns randomly. Its happening in the Flat File Source Task. By random I mean that most of the times all the data gets loaded but sometimes it doesnt and it empty's out column data. Interestingly enough this is random and even the emptying out of columns isnt a complete empty, its more like a 90% emtpying. Now you'll ask that is the file different everytime and the answer is NO. Its the same file everytime. If I run the same file everytime for 10 times it would empty out various columns maybe 1 of those times. This doesnt seem to be a problem while working with dtexec or the Package Executor utility. Need Help!!

Skip A Row In The Flatfile Source

May 20, 2008

I am importing a flatfile and cannot seem to deal with an issue that seems quite simple.

The files have a header row with column names and those rows start with '#'

However sometimes this header row will also be present in the middle of the file.

The Source tries to parse this row and fails

Is there any way to tell the flafile source to skip rows that start with a particular character like comment rows?

Error: The External Metadata Column Collection Is Out Of Synchronization With The Data Source Columns

Apr 17, 2007

Hello,

I have a SSIS package with a Data Flow task. This task transfers the data from SQL Server 2000 to a table in SQL Server 2005.

I deployed and tested this package on the Test Server. Then put this package in a job and executed it - Works fine.

On the production server- If I execute the package through DTEXECUI, it works fine. But when I try executing it through a job- the job fails and it gives me following error:

Description: The external metadata column collection is out of synchronization with the data source columns. The "external metadata column "T_FieldName" (82)" needs to be removed from the external metadata column collection....

What I don't understand is, why are there no errors displayed when I execute the package through DTEXECUI.

Can anyone help me to resolve this issue.

Thanks.
