I am new to SQL / SQL Server and have downloaded SQL Server 2005 Express.
I also appear to have an existing SQL Server program on my PC which includes Query Analyzer. I wish to use Query Analyzer. Is this compatible with SQL Express?
When I try to open Query Analyzer using Windows Authentication I get the error msg:
'Unable to connect to server HOME-DHGV3DIC8N:
Server: msg 17, level 16, state 1
[Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [Shared memory] SQL Server does not exist or access denied.'
I am guessing that I need to create some sort of server which I can use to run SQL server.
Could anyone let me know how I do this? And also if I will be able to run Query analyzer on SQL Express edition.
3 tables with about 100 000 rows each one, frequently updated. 1 clustered index on primary key, and 2 non clustered index on columns used by JOIN and by queries.
Fillfactor for index : 90. PAD_INDEX : not activated.
I have some deadlocks problems, probably due to index pages and key locking (as precised in error log). Is it possible that the cause of that is splitting index pages while UPDATE ?
May I activate PAD_INDEX to solve part of this problem ?
I have created Queue with the following syntax. But it is not getting activated itself. What I have to do to get it activated itself, and what could be the frequency by default.
CREATE QUEUE NewCustomerQueue WITH ACTIVATION (PROCEDURE_NAME = prProcessNewCustomers, STATUS = ON, MAX_QUEUE_READERS = 1, EXECUTE AS SELF) GO
If I execute the prProcessNewCustomers procedure manually it is showing that the Queue has been activated. What change I have to make in the syntax to get it activated itself.
Actually I have two scenarios in my requirement,
1. One Queue processing immediately when it receives data (Order Processing)
2. Another Queue, Process when the server is idle i.e., off-peak time (for mailing)
i am using sqlserver2005,in that i am not getting database mail even after enabling in surface area configuration of configaration tool. what is the problem with my sqlserver. Can any one help me ...
Running VB 2005 Express Edition and Sql Server 2005 Express Edition (SQLX).
Developing a desktop application which calls a local instance of ".sqlexpress".
This app needs to set data base options and add/del various table columns.
When activating the application role, I get the following message:

Anyone know what this message means?
I have searched SQL Server Books On-Line and been unable to find a list of Sql err numbers. Either I have missed the obvious or Books On-Line has missed the obvious.
Here is the problem, i'm sure there is quite a bit on google but i'm not sure what to search for. I want to know how to connect to a sql server from my home machine using the localhost for testing asp.net files out. At work the machines will connect fine using localhost. The server we connect to is in another location. If someone could get me started on what to search for i would appreciate it.
I'm trying to run a copy of Enterprise Manager at home. I have a small wireless network and would like to install it on either one machine (stand-alone) or run it on my network.
The machine it is installed on is running Windows 2000 and the remote machine is running Windows XP Home <<< not sure if SQL Server will run on this.
I tried installing it previously as stand-alone on the Win2K machine, but kept getting a "Server not found or access denied" message whenever I tried to register or connect.
Any ideas on how best to set it up at home would be greatly appreciated.

I am new to servers and when I try to learn about them I get confused, because the information does not list a server in XP, but they keep it separate from Microsoft SQL Server, like XP has it's own server. Can someone help clarify for me what the versions of SQL servers are?

Hi I have problems to find the Reporting Services in the MSSQL Server Express adv. Services. Is it because I have onlx the Windows Home installed? And the IIS is missing? I hope not! I also work with C# Express and now I really need to produce some reports and graphics...
Ive seen several sellers, both retail and on ebay, who say that sql server2000 developeredition will run on windows xp home edition. Is this true? Some articlesI've seen imply yeswhile other articles imply no. I'm trying to learn sql server and a lot ofbooks I've purchaseoffer a 120 day evaluation. I'd prefer to buy an edition that I can affordand will give me boththe server and tools.A seller on ebay is selling the developer edition and it's price is withinmy budget. I don't wantto buy it if it won't install on windows xp home.Any help would be great. Thanks
I installed SQL Server 2005 Enterprise trial on Vista Home Premium. In the process of trying to get SQL Server Management Studio installed I ended up removing everything. Now when I try to install any tool, service, or database of SQL Server 2005 (Enterprise or SQLExpress) the install fails and says that a newer version is already installed but nothing is installed. Rollback my restore points fails too. Seems like I need to clean up the registry somehow????
I have windows vista home with IIS installed in it. In microsoft download website I found 5 related links. I downloaded all of them. none of them says it is compatible with vista. and accordingly none of them after installing worked properly.
I have my SQL Server installation on drive c: and the databases on anotherdrive. My c drive got corrupted and I am planning to restore it from an oldbackup. This means drive c will not be up to date.Is there anything that SQL Server saves in the registry or in its homefolder that changes frequently? I am hoping that nothing does which meansthe old backup will be good enough.Although I think the default databases are in the c drive, I will try toget them back from a recent backup.John Dalberg
hi i have windows vista home basic.I am trying to install sql server 2005. I have two issue: 1)Its always throwing a popup window saying sql server has a know issue and do you want to continue. 2)I am not able to connect to any database engine.
My target market includes Micro-SMEs (i.e. 1 to 2 person business). This users often have multiple computers, but tend to run XP Home edition. Hence I need to set up a SQL Server Express on one of the machines and allow the other machines to access it.
So far I realise:
XP machines must be SP2ed (http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=379560&SiteID=1) XP Home machines need to be in the same work group (am I right?) I have to Open up the MS Firewall on each of the machines for TCP ports 1433 and 1434 (see http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=511441&SiteID=1) On the machine hosting the SQL Server Express instance, start the "Browser" Service (again http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=511441&SiteID=1)
I have several questions surrounding this.....
If I package SQL Express with my application is there away I can get the Browser to be started automatically? Do I need to write some custom code using the Microsoft.SqlServer.Management namespace? My understanding of the SQL Server security model is that ideally I should ideally use Windows Authenticated users connections - how do I set up the remote XP Home user on the XP Home machine which is hosting the SQL Server Instance? I'm thing I may have to used Mixed Mode and pass the SQL Server username and password in the connection string. Am I right or can I use Windows Authenticated? Are there any more resources other than http://msdn.microsoft.com/sql/express/default.aspx?pull=/library/en-us/dnsse/html/emsqlexcustapp.asp which I should look at for help on installing an app bound to SQL Server Express?
I am trying to install SQL Express on Window Home XP and SCC is returning the following error:
The SQL Server Configuration Checker cannot b execute due to WMI configuration on the machine ..... Error 2147942405 (0X80070005).
I tried running the following batch file which I believe resolved the same issue that someone else raised earlier (though I am not sure whether the OS was Home XP)
Will upgrading from XP Home to XP Professional (academic version) help me install SQL express successfully>
The Batch file I ran looks like this:
FIXWMI.CMD ------------------------
@echo on cd /d c: emp if not exist %windir%system32wbem goto TryInstall cd /d %windir%system32wbem net stop winmgmt winmgmt /kill if exist Rep_bak rd Rep_bak /s /q rename Repository Rep_bak for %%i in (*.dll) do RegSvr32 -s %%i for %%i in (*.exe) do call :FixSrv %%i for %%i in (*.mof,*.mfl) do Mofcomp %%i net start winmgmt goto End
:FixSrv if /I (%1) == (wbemcntl.exe) goto SkipSrv if /I (%1) == (wbemtest.exe) goto SkipSrv if /I (%1) == (mofcomp.exe) goto SkipSrv %1 /RegServer
:SkipSrv goto End
:TryInstall if not exist wmicore.exe goto End wmicore /s net start winmgmt :End
I have recently updated from XP to Vista Home Premium. Now when I try to install SQL Serve Express SP2 I get :
"setup has detected problem with .net framework installation and cannot proceed. Microsoft .net framework 2.0 is either not installed or is corrupt."
I have tried to run sfc /scannow to make sure my .NET 2.0 was not corrupted and also was running as an administrator but could not get it installed. Anyone has any ideas?

I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 on Windows Vista Home Premium edition, when I run the Installer I received are the following error message.
IIS Feature Requirement (Warning)

IIS Feature Requirement
Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) is either not installed or is disabled. IIS is required by some SQL Server features. Without IIS, some SQL Server features will not be available for installation. To install all SQL Server features, install IIS from Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel or enable the IIS service through the Control Panel if it is already installed, and then run SQL Server Setup again. For a list of features that depend on IIS, see Features Supported by Editions of SQL Server in Books Online.
I already configure IIS7 with all feature, but system still generate above mentioned message.

I could not install SQL Server 2005 Developer edition on my notebook with os Vista Home Premium. I know about the SP2 thing...but before coming that point, I can not either install the SQL Server 2005... When installing, when the database services point comes it gives an error about user thing...and then installation starts to rollback...
I check the IIS configuration from the net...And see that while activating IIS there is no option for Windows Auth. in Home Premium in Control Panel>Program...>Windows Programs.....etc....
SO ON VISTA HOME PREMIUM is SQL SERVER 2005 Dev. Edition can be installed or not?
I have tried to install SQL Server 2005 Express several times with no success. I have followed the instructions to remove all SQL files on the Programs menu. Then, when I attempt to install it again, it only goes as far as the database where it stops and gives the error message: SQL Server cannot write system databases to C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData because it contains files from a previous installation. To continue, move the databases from the specified folder, or specify a different installation folder. Then run SQL Server Setup again.
It doesn't give options and I can only abort the installation.
Does anyone have a remedy for a technologically challenged person?
I'm green on this networking stuff so any help is greatly appreciated.
I have setup my home computer as a server and assigned a static IP to it. I installed SQL Server 2005 Developer and allowed remote connections to it through the Surface Area Config tool, added port 1433 TCP and 1434 UDP to firewall's exception list, and started the SQL Server Browser service.
Now I can't seem to remote connect to this SQL Server from my office network. Is there something I'm doing wrong here?
Hi, I have Vista Home premium edition and trying to install SQL Server developer edition 2005 as local administrator. I have already enabled IIS 7 and have Office Ultimate 2007 installed. When I run the set up program, I get a warning titled "Program Compatibility Assistant" that my Operating system may not be compatible with the version of sql server I am installing. It says after setup is complete, I should run SP2 of SQL Server 2005 with 3 buttons as "Check for solutions online", "run this program" and "cancel"...
My question, should I select "run this program" and after the setup completes, download SP2 and apply the patch?
I read some articles in forums that sounds like lot of issues to get sql server working on vista. Can some one direct me to correct options. This is my wife's machine so I dont want to experiment too much and blow her machine away. Please help.
