Problem Deploying Images In SSRS

Feb 12, 2008

Hi,

I have an image on my page pointing to a URL on my localhost.

The value parameter is quite simply: ="http://localhost/support.jpg" and this works fine when run under Visual Studio 2005.

The problem is after deploying. Most of the report runs and displays fine, but the image is missing. The properties refer to the following:

http://localhost/Reports/Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd?
ReportSession=2b5wwuuxdca5o455phjuxqym&
ControlID=3bbd2b14bf4f4273842655c3f66ec0d0&
Culture=2057&UICulture=9&ReportStack=1&OpType=ReportImage&StreamID=7fed9f2c-cc98-49d5-bbac-5728ae968462

I am not sure what this is referring to or why the image is not displayed. As I said, it displays on Visual Studio perfectly fine. Can anyone please shed some light on this?

Thanks.
Lee.

Deploying Reports From SSRS Project

May 19, 2008

I have created some reports in BIDS and saved them to a folder in my m/c (without deploying them) . i want to deploy that to the report server through C# code.

i can deploy that onto any Report Server. For that I will have to change the datasource connection string.

Is there a way to achieve this. Please let me know if it is there.

Deploying SSRS In SQL Express Edition With Advanced Services

Aug 4, 2007

Hello, I am having a difficult time with a complicated task. I have developed numerous SSRS reports for my application and want to deploy these reports with my application. The application uses SQL Express Edition with Advanced Services. I have written an installer to automate this process, but my problem is getting the SSRS reports that I developed on my server incorporated into the ReportServer database created during the install of SQL Express Edition with Advanced Services. I have read numerous good posts and articles regarding the rsconfig.exe and rskeymgmt.exe utilities, but I am having problems. The main problem seems to be dealing with the encryption key. I have done a restore of the ReportServer database using a backup of the ReportServer database I used to develop my SSRS reports. This worked well with the exception that I can't seem to get past an error message stating that reportiong services has not been initialized. Keep in mind, I need an automated way to do this. Anyway, I have tried using rskeymgmt to restore a backed up copy of the encryption file that I took from the server where I developed the reports. I get an error message that scale-out deployment is not supported in this version or something like that. I can't delete the encrypted data because then the connection information for my shared data source is deleted also. Again, please keep in mind I need all of this to occur behind the scenes during an install without end-user intervention.

Anyways, sorry for such a long post. I would appreciate any help anyone may be able to provide.

Images With Custom DataSet Passed To SSRS Not Displaying

Oct 17, 2007

Hi,

I'm developing an ASP.NET application that creates on-demand reports with Reporting Services 2005 in report server.
I use a custom data set that contains the data that I want to bind to the report, and I use a WebService to pass that DataSet to the reporting services to accomplish my purpose.

The query passed to the reporting services is:

<Query>
<Method Namespace=http://myNameSpace.com Name="GetDataSetForReport"/> <SoapAction>http://myNameSpace.com/WebService/GetDataSetForReport</SoapAction>
<ElementPath IgnoreNamespaces="True">GetDataSetForReportResponse{}/GetDataSetForReportResult{}/diffgram{}/ReportDataSet{}/MyTable{Fields1,Fields2,Fields3,..,FieldsN,Image}</ElementPath>
</Query>

This works well and all the fields are displayed in the report fine except the Image Fields, that are not showing (the red X appears instead of the image).

The issue is that all the data that is bind to the dataset is contained in a SQL Server 2005 database, and the Image column in the table of that database is a VARBINARY(MAX) field (I insert the image into the database table).

Also, when I created the dataset in .NET, the column type of the dataset I declared for the Image field was Byte[], but that didn't work for me. I've also tried to declare as the field type Byte,SqlByte,Image,SqlBinary, etc without succesfull results.

I've also tried creating a XML Schema, declaring the Image field as base64Binary, then do DataSet.ReadXMLSchema(myschema) and then retrievied the data from sql server and filled the dataset, Again, the Images doesn`t display.

For finnishing my unsatisfactory tests, I've also tried to handle the image data with a MemoryStream object:

MemoryStream mem = new MemoryStream();
MemoryStream oStream = new MemoryStream();

mem.Write((Byte[])dr["Image"],0 , ((Byte[])dr["Image"]).Length); //dr is the datareader used to read from the DB

Image image = Image.FromStream(mem);

try

{

image.Save(oStream, ImageFormat.Png);

}

catch{}

newRow["Image"] = oStream.GetBuffer(); //newRow is a row of the custom DataSet.Table passed to the SSRS.

But again, the Image is not showing.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for you time.

Reporting Services :: Error On Deploying SSRS Map Report - Maximum Request Length Exceeded

Jul 19, 2015

I am trying to deploy a shape file map of the world with 100 random data points from my dataset but get this error: "exception running the extensions specified in the config file. ---> Maximum request length exceeded". I can preview this fine in SSDT. I have read various solutions which involve editing the config file but I don't have permissions to get to these files. Is there any way to amend the maximum length either through SSMS or SSDT? If not how can I make my map size small enough to deploy? It is a very simple shape file with no colours etc and I am passing random 100 data points to it from my dataset.

Can I Write SSRS 2008 Reports To Run On SQL 2005 SSRS?

Sep 12, 2007

Is it possible to write SSRS 2008 reports to run on an existing SSRS 2005 server?

If yes, what do I need to do to be able to write SSRS 2008 reports on my developer PC that will run on the SQL 2005 Server (which also has SSRS 2005 installed on it)?

I installed Visual Studio 2008 beta on the development PC and it appears that it needs SSRS installed on it too. So I installed SQL 2008 SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) and SQL 2008 Workstation Components onto the developer PC. Next I run the SQL 2008 "Reporting Services Configuration" tool. When I click on the "Web Service URL" section it hangs indefinitely and I have to force it closed.

The developer PC is Windows Vista Business.

Any suggestions on making this work, or any other information that you can think of that would allow me to use Visual Studio 2008 and the SQL 2008 "Report Designer Preview" tool to develop SSRS reports that will run on the SQL 2005 SSRS server?

Thanks!

Deploying The Whole Lot

Apr 26, 2007

Hi All,

I am adding a reporting suite to our application based upon SSRS 2005 and I am looking for a comprehensive example of how I go about deploying this.

Essentially I want to automate the entire process:

Create the DB, Create the Virtual Dirs, add my reports etc.

I have looked at the documentation and it is limited to say the least. I went down the route of attempting to script the whole thing and after 3 days of it I was still stuck on a few problems so I was hoping that someone knows of an example of how to go through all of these processes.

An example of the problems I ran into is that the "CreateVirtualDir" method on the reporting services WMI objects simply didn't work. It didn't return an error but it didn't create the Dir either!

The documentation around this method and most others is ambiguous and contains no examples.

I then went down the route of using IIS WMI to create the dirs which worked but then I was unable to update the Reporting Services configuration to pick this up without resorting to changing the config files directly - and even when I did this they didn't always seem to be picked up.

So at present instead of giving our guys in deployment a 1 click install they have a 9 page document explaining the install and set up of Reporting services from start to finish.

Any help or more thorough documentation would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

Dhugal.

PS: Just to add I have already altered our install to install the RS module along with SQL Server so that bit is covered. I just want to script the entire configuration process.

What i'm trying to do if possible is for the user to click on the image and for it to open a new window with the full sized image and then close that image and click on a image relating to another image so they could see that full sized.

Is this possible in Reporting Services? or is there a way in which i could do a similar thing?

Deploying Databases

Dec 19, 2000

I am looking for an effective technique for this scenario:
We have a program that generates 200 custom Paradox databases every night, and these are shipped to 200 sales offices (on Win98 machines). We would like to convert from Paradox to MSDE (baby SQL).
The data is relatively large (some offices > 100 MB) so efficiency is important, both for data generation, data transmission and/or data loading. Currently we zip files so the large 100MB ones are <20MB during transmission.
Is it best to: 1) output flat files, zip them, transmit, and then have an automatic load procedure (using bcp) on the Win98 clients; or 2) create the MSDE databases locally, zip them, transmit, and then db_attach the database file on the Win98?
Has anyone a successful experience doing this sort of thing?

Deploying SQL Server On To A CD

Sep 2, 2005

Hi Well this is my first post on this forum, in fact I have not even used SQL Server yet!

My question is.... I have been asked to produce an application which will be a VB6 application with an SQL Server database behind it. I would like to be able to put the application along with the database on to a CD and run them directly from the CD once it is distributed. So the question I guess is can this be done with SQL Server i.e. can a table be exported in a format which will allow it to be queried in a standalone fashion? Maybe I have not explained myself properly but I welcome any questions which will help clarify my problem.

Thanks Red
