Problem In Deployment Of Packages Into 2 Different Servers

Oct 11, 2006

I have 2 servers. DWTEST and DWSQL1. I developed my packages connecting to DWTEST in the design time. I have 32 packages, one of them is the master one and the others are child packages.

package PM calls P1, P2, P3,.......P31

i have 2 data source in my project. RDS and S0, both setup to connect DWTEST in the design. i defined rds_connection_string and s0_connection_string variables in my master package and created an XML config file and put those variables into that config file.

C:PROJECTSDEVELOPMENTSSIS ConfigurationsSERVER.dtsConfig

<DTSConfiguration>

- <DTSConfigurationHeading>

<DTSConfigurationFileInfo GeneratedBy="TC sql" GeneratedFromPackageName="PM" GeneratedFromPackageID="{CBE946D0-279F-44F6-80A3-83D056C1E36C}" GeneratedDate="11/10/2006 10:50:44 AM" />
</DTSConfigurationHeading>

- <Configuration ConfiguredType="Property" Path="Package.Variables[User::rds_connection_str].Properties[Value]" ValueType="String">

<ConfiguredValue>Data Source=DWTEST;Initial Catalog=RDS;Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;</ConfiguredValue>
</Configuration>

- <Configuration ConfiguredType="Property" Path="Package.Variables[User::s0_connection_str].Properties[Value]" ValueType="String">

<ConfiguredValue>Data Source=DWTEST;Initial Catalog=S0;Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;</ConfiguredValue>
</Configuration>
</DTSConfiguration>

built the project into directory C:PROJECTSDEVELOPMENTS1_REUSABLE_DATA_STORES1_REUSABLE_DATA_STOREinDeployment

when i deploy my packages into DWTEST and run them as a SQL Server Agent job they work because data sources are signing to DWTEST already.

when i am deploying them(using the same manifest file in the deployment directory i wrote above) into the server DWSQL1, i select config file source as:

C:PROJECTSTESTINGSSIS ConfigurationsSERVER.dtsConfig

and update data source strings in it to DWSQL1:

- <DTSConfiguration>

- <DTSConfigurationHeading>

<DTSConfigurationFileInfo GeneratedBy="TC sql" GeneratedFromPackageName="PM" GeneratedFromPackageID="{CBE946D0-279F-44F6-80A3-83D056C1E36C}" GeneratedDate="11/10/2006 10:50:44 AM" />
</DTSConfigurationHeading>

- <Configuration ConfiguredType="Property" Path="Package.Variables[User::rds_connection_str].Properties[Value]" ValueType="String">

<ConfiguredValue>Data Source=DWSQL1;Initial Catalog=RDS;Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;</ConfiguredValue>
</Configuration>

- <Configuration ConfiguredType="Property" Path="Package.Variables[User::s0_connection_str].Properties[Value]" ValueType="String">

<ConfiguredValue>Data Source=DWSQL1;Initial Catalog=S0;Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;</ConfiguredValue>
</Configuration>
</DTSConfiguration>

When i run SQL Server Agent Job i defined in DWSQL1(forcing it to use DWSQL1 data source in step definition), my master package PM connects to DWSQL1, and my child packages don't use my config definitions and connect to DWTEST which is defined in the design time.

How can i force all my packages to connect DWSQL1 server using the same built files in deployment directory WITHOUT editing my packages(recreating config files or changing the definition of Data Sources and then built the project again) in Visual Studio?

Thanks to you for reading my long question...

Order Of Deployment Packages

Jan 24, 2007

HI,

I have a query regarding the order of deployed packages in SSIS (MSDB)

I have four projects in my solution (SSIS) and i need to deploy and test them frequently, whenever i deploy them, they are deployed in no particular order what so ever. Even i created some folder in MSDB (for each project) but coudnt able to deploy project in its corresponding project . I have read something that you can do in it XML configuration manually but this does not solve my problem as I have to deploy them very frequently (it will be a hard task to change XML every time I deploy packages).

Is there ne solution of it? or MS has left this alone like this?

MS!!! it shud be, atleast if not more, in alphabetical order. Did I say ne thing wrong? or i dont hv sufficient knowledge about it?

Question On Packages Deployment

May 1, 2007

Hi, all experts here,

Thank you very much for your kind attention.

I am having a question on the deployment of the packages to integration services server. Why after I have deployed the whole solution, but my packages are not actually deployed to the integration services server?

Also, after we add the package manually to the integration services server, to users outside of local host, how could we add permissions for them to execute the packages?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help and I am looking forward to hearing from you shortly.

With best regards,

Yours sincerely,

Automating File Deployment Of SSIS Packages

Jul 10, 2007

Hi:

I am trying to utilize DTUtil command to automate deployment of SSIS Package from the Build Server to Dev Server. I am getting an invalid option error, when I try to run the following command:

dtutil /FILE C:Program FilesABCABC ABC CADETL PackagesLoad_Staging_FromWCF.dtsx /MOVE FILE;\serverAC$Program FilesABCABC ABC CADETL PackagesLoad_Staging_FromWCF.dtsx /QUIET

Currently I have a .CMD file, in which I have the above command, and I am trying to run the CMD file and it returns an error. Can someone help me the DTUtil switches. My goal is to move a DTSX file from Server A(Build Server) to Server B(Dev Server). Also is there a switch to specify the server name, if UNC path is not supported. Also I am using File System Deployment, and running the file as an Administrator. I have admin privs on both Build and Dev Server. Thanks and I appreciate some help on this.

Configure Connection Strings For Deployment To Different Servers

Sep 29, 2006

Hi,

We currently have a test and development environment for our data warehouse which is using SSIS packages to build (SSIS packages call stored procedures). We have multiple connections accross the different packages. The problem that we are having is when we deploy the packages to the development environment, the connection strings in the packages are still pointing to the live server! Hence, when we run these packages in the test environment, they actually execute the stored procedures in our live server.

I have tried to use package configurations and the deployment utility to assist us in this regard but have still come up with a few problems:

- When running the deployment utility, I still have to go and manually type in the data source the connection string must use - Is there maybe a way to use some sort of a variable that will automatically set this dependant on the name of the server that you are deploying to?

-It seems, even when I deploy to my live server, if I change the data source to point to my live server, it goes and changes the data source for the packages on my test server to point to the live servesr as well/

Basically, what I would like at the end of the day is to just be able to select the server the packages must be deployed to, and the connesction strings must be set automatically to either the test or live server dependong on which one I deploy to. Anyone know if this is possible?

Thanks in advance

How To: Deploy Packages To A Subfolder Under MSDB Using Deployment Wizard

Jan 21, 2006

Hi ,

I'm deploying the packages to SQL Server using the deployment utility. It goes through. However i wish to organize the packges into folders on the SSIS Server -> MSDB.

I'm able to create folder under the MSDB node. By default "Maintenance Plans" exists. But while deploying the package to the server i'm unable to specify the folder into which the package to be deployed.

Is this a known gap in the deployment wizard or am i missing something?

Unable To Create A SSIS Deployment Utility For A Solution Which Are Having 2 Packages

Dec 28, 2007

Hi All,

I have created a solution which contains only 2 packages say Package1.dtsx and Pakage2.dtsx. I want to create a deployment utility to deploy onto other developers machince. I changed the project properties "CreateDeploymentUtility" to TRUE. When I do the build it is not creating the files in "Deployment" folder. It is saying Rebuild All Failed but the error is not showing.

For more information the 2 packages have 4 indirect configurations from environment variables which are storing the actual config file path.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks.

Copying DTS Packages Across Servers

May 6, 2004

HI All,

Now my brain isn't quite where it should be right about now - so hopefully you will be able to put me at rest.

I have been building a new server with SQL2000 on it. Some of the stuff on our existing server is going to be migrated across - however I for the life of me cannot make any sense of how to move stuff (like DTS packages) from one server to another.

moving the Database's - no problems, but all the other guff in the tree (in Enterprise Manager) I cant seem to get.

Any assistance here is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

How To Migrate DTS Packages Between Servers

Jul 20, 2005

I'm quite new to DTS, and have to modify a number of existing localDTS packages as part of an ongoing development project. Naturally,I'm doing these on a test server first, but so far I've failed to findany utility which will simply copy the package definition from thetest server to the live one (or any other server, come to that)Since some of these packages are quite complex, it is going to be verylaborious (and error prone, surely?) to have to re-write these locallyon the production server.Is there a way of doing this, or am I missing the point somewhat?

Calling SSIS Packages From ASP.NET - Packages With File System Tasks End Abruptly

Jan 9, 2007

I've run into a problem with SSIS packages wherein tasks that write or copy files, or create or delete directories, quit execution without any hint of an error nor a failure message, when called from an ASP.NET 2.0 application running on any other machine than the one where the package was created from. By all indications it appeared to be an identity/permissions problem.

Our application involves a separate web server and database server. Both have SQL Server 2005 installed, but the application server originally only had Integration services. The packages are file system-deployed on the application server, and are called using Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime methods. For all packages that involve file system tasks, the above problem occurs.

When the above packages are run using the command prompt (either DTEXEC or DTEXECUI) the packages execute just fine. This is expected since we are using an administrative account. However when a ShellExecute of the same command is called from ASP.NET, the same problem occurs.

I've tried giving administrative permissions to the ASPNET worker process user to no avail.

I have likewise attempted to use the SQL Server Agent job approach but that approach might not be acceptable for our clients since it means installing SQL Server 2005 Database services on the application server.

I have read the relevant threads in this forum, namely http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1044739&SiteID=1 and http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=927084&SiteID=1 but failed to find any solution appropriate for our set up.

Anybody got any idea on how to go about this?

Integration Services :: Remotely Execute Packages On SSIS Server - Packages Are Deployed In File System

Apr 22, 2015

We manage some SSIS servers, which has only SSIS and SSIS tools installed on them and not the sql server DB.

SSIS packages and configuration files are deployed on a NAS. We run the SSIS packages through DTEXEC by logging in to the server.

We want to allow developers to run their packages on their own on the server, but at the same time we dont want to give them physical access on the server i.e we do not want to add them into RDP users list on server properties. We want them to allow running their packages remotely on the server.

One way We could think of is by using powershell remoting and we are working on that. But is there any other way or any tool already present for the same.

Sql Report Works Fine On Internal Servers - Hosed On External Servers - Need Some Help

Nov 21, 2007

I have a report that was designed using SQL Reporting Services that sits on a SQL reporting server. It's nothing too exciting, it is essentially a three page application with legal jumbo on pages 2 and 3 and applicant data in fields on page 1.

We use rectangles to force page breaks to page 2 and to page 3.

When running the report on the report server, it shows and prints fine.

When running the report from the QA website internally, it shows and prints just fine.

When running the report from the production website from a machine internally, it shows and prints just fine.

When running the report from outside of the company network, the report is jacked. It obliterates large chunks of text, crams text together, and creates blank pages.

I need help in determining where I even begin with trouble shooting this!

can anyone tell me if they know of a way to automate the update process from development servers to live server, with little interference from an administrator

I have a development team that are constantly updating their databases along with their ASP code, and want to publish changes an a weekly basis. They have asked me for a way to take their new structures, tables, procedures etc, and copy them to the live servers, but NOT to interfere with existing customer data.

Funny I know – and I hate the idea btw :(

Any references, contacts, 3rd party tool recommendations welcome,

Thanx,

Linking SQL 2005 Servers To SQL 2000 Servers Problems

Sep 27, 2007

I am in the middle of a major migraton project, moving from x86 SQL 2000 to IA64 SQL 2005. I have a business need to link to several legacy servers. I have a number of problems I am trying to solve.

1) Linking a Kerberos server to a non-Kerberos server.
2) Linking x64 or IA64 servers to x86 servers.
3) Linking SQL 2005 to SQL 2000.

Two of the errors I am encountering are:
------------------------------
TCP Provider: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.
Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "SCDC250DB" returned message "Communication link failure".
(Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 10054)
------------------------------
And
------------------------------
The OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for the linked server "SCDC250DB" reported an error. Authentication failed.
Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "SCDC250DB".
OLE DB provider "SQLCLI" for linked server "SCDC250DB" returned message "Invalid authorization specification".
(Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 7399)

If someone has worked through these problems before, I would appreciate it if you could direct me to the relevant documentation to resolve these issues.

Thanks!

Deployment - So Near And Yet So Far....

Apr 23, 2008

I tried to deploy a package to production and failed miserably. The error is pretty simple "Format of the initialization string does not conform to specification". Trouble is, I opened my source on the production machine, generated a new connection string from a new connection manager and guess what, the string comes out EXACTLY the same as the one my package is set to point to at runtime. so, where do I start?

some general stuff.
There are ADO and OLEDB connection in the package.
Each gets its connection string from a variable.
the variable is set in a script task which pulls the data out of an encryped sql server column.
when the connection string is displayed via a simple message box, it is exactly what I want i to be, e.g.
Data Source=a.b.c.d;User ID=A_USER;password=password;Initial Catalog=a_database;Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Auto Translate=False;

I am guessing that it must be a setting or option on the SQL Servers themselfs, something in its configuration as otherwise the strings are identical so there must be something in the way that one SQl server is not set up to allow connections from another?

CLR Deployment

Feb 23, 2007

I'm attempting to deploy CLR Stored Procedures from Visual Studio 2005.

I have a VS Database project with stored procedures for all of the tables in our database. (I would really like to keep everything together in 1 DLL), everything seems fine except...

I keep receiving the following error when attempting to deploy to SQL Server:

Error 1 Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of
the operation or the server is not responding.

After some experimentation I have determined that its because the DLL is too
large: 1.8 mb. (I also have a larger one).

I have looked through various documentation sources but have found none
concerning this problem other than specifing something aboug a 100ms
execution timeout (not sure if this is the same).

Deployment works if I trim down the size of the DLL (i.e., remove procedures from the solution)

Is there anyway to deploy large DLLs to SQL Server without having to break
them up? If so, where is the setting to allow a longer timeout period for
deployment?

SS2005E Deployment To Web

Mar 11, 2008

Scenario:

I have a dev machine with VS2005Pro, WinXPSP2. I create a web site with
authentication built with the ASP.Net Configuration Tool in VS2005.

The site, login and all other functionality are fine when tested on the dev
machine.

I use copy web site to 'deploy' the site to a W2003R2 server. The
authentication process doesn't recognize the password. All other web
functionality is fine. With SSMSE I can see that the request is actually
being processed by SS2005E.

Is this likely to be an encryption problem due to differing machine keys or
something similar? What is the recommended approach to moving ASPNETDB from
the dev machine to a server?

Deployment Problem

Mar 21, 2005

Hi. I created an app on my laptop and wish to deploy it to a server. I followed the steps to release the project and I copied the files over to the server. I'm getting an access denied or server does not exist error message. I went into the code behind pages to change the connection string but it still doesn't work. I think it has something to do with the SQL Server name. It's just local. The person that installed it did not change the name. In enterprise manager, it looks like this. (local) (Windows NT) Should the connection string be SERVER/(local) ? Is there a default name I'm not aware of? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Here is the error message:

Server Error in '/' Application.

Deployment Issues - PLEASE HELP!

Mar 9, 2006

hi everyone.  i've recently upgraded to ASP.NET 2.0 and have successfully created a web application using the 2.0 membership provider.  everything is working GREAT...
...until it's time to deploy!  for the past 2 days i have been stuck trying to figure out why my app cannot connect to my SQL Server 2005 database.  i am plagued by the:
"login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY/NETWORK SERVICE'" error.
the database is aspnetdb.mdf located in the app_data folder of my web application.
the "LocalSqlServer" connection string name is used for connecting to the database (using the "attach" menthod
steps taken so far:
installed vs2005 on the target server, opened the project, connected to the database and added the "NT AUTHORITY/NETWORK SERVICE" user as a db owner to the aspnetdb.mdf database
installed SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Express to try to accomplish the same thing as through vs2005
gave the NT AUTHORITY/NETWORK SERVICE account full access to the folder where the web application resides.
attempted to create a custom connection string to attach the database and connect using an SQL user instead of a windows user, but "attaching" an MDF file seems to only work with integrated security.
attempted to attach the database using the Management Studio Express and added a SQL user as the db owner.  but SQL can't find the database even when it's attached.
i've deleted, rebooted, uninstalled, reinstalled, recopied, etc. several times with no luck.
one thing that i find very peculiar:  on the target server, when i open the WSAT through vs2005 it shows 0 users, even though there ARE some in the database when i run the app on in development environment.  in this situation, i try to log in to the application and the login page returns a "user not found" error. after returning to the WSAT and creating a new user, i try to log in again and get login failed for NT AUTHORITY/NETWORK SERVICE again.
can someone PLEASE help me.  it just doesn't seem like it should be this difficult.  the new membership provider in 2.0 is really easy to use...how could it be so difficult to deploy??
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help.  thanks in advance!

Sql Dmo Dll's Deployment Problem

Dec 15, 2005

Hi there

I hv developed a client server application that uses Access Xp ( adp file) as front end and SQL Server 2000 as database. Inside the vba code i hv extensively made use of sql dmo library objects. For the program to work properly i am forced to install Sql server client tools especially (enterprise manager) on end users workstation which is something i am not happy with.
Whithout SQL client tools installed Access pops up an error like "Can't create activex object".

I googled that issue and gathered informations stating that some dll's file must be installed for SQL dmo to work smoothly in a VB application and i guess that same also stands for Access vba since they are almost quiet the same.

In my application setup package i hv included these below dll's and they hv been set to be loaded in application directory as following but the problem still remains.

- WindowsSystem32sqlunirl.dll

- Application directory80ToolsBinnsqldmo.dll ( with registration activated)
- Application directory80ToolsBinnsqlresld.dll
- Application directory80ToolsBinnsqlsvc.dll
- Application directory80ToolsBinnw95scm.dll

- Application directory80ToolsBinnResources1033sqldmo.rll
- Application directory80ToolsBinnResources1033sqlsvc.rll

Am i missing something or is something wrong with the deployment. Pls assist

Rgds

Manual RDL Deployment

Jun 12, 2008

I have inherited a deployment running inside a custom .net application. I'm looking to deploy an updated version of a report to the report server. My question is there a manual way of deploying an RDL? I'm afraid of taking down the application entirely and I do not have detailed enough documentation to bring it back up. Thanks!
