Feb 13, 2008
HI friends,
I have a problem with sql server. I know that i should not discuss my problem in this forum.
But the problem is demanding me to place it anywhere.
The problem is i want to retreive data from a table between two dates.
I have written the query as below.
"select * from employees where hiredate between 01-05-1992 and 15-11-1994"
But it is returning 0 rows.If anybody helps me in this issue it willbe helpful me..
Note: I have tried by changing all the date formats like DMY,MDY,YMD..........
Thanks N Regards,

why the statement "where WD.WRKD_WORK_DATE BETWEEN DATEADD(DD, -6, GETDATE()) AND GETDATE()) = 0' is successful, but "WD.WRKD_WORK_DATE BETWEEN (DATEADD(DD, -16, GETDATE())) AND (DATEADD(DD, -3, GETDATE()))" is an invalid statement? I've tried a lot of different syntax variations of this statement and cannot get to work between two lookback dates.

I am trying to index dates to numbers with a large data set.
The first colums is index, the next is FactorsS, the next is value and the next is Date and the last is Lag.
Would it be difficult to write code that would determine the lag values. The lag value is based on the date value.
Index FactorS Value Date Lag
1 XYZ 2.3 12/31/2014 1
2 XYZ 1.4 12/30/2014 2
3 XYZ 3.3 12/29/2014 3
4 ABC 1.8 12/31/2014 1
5 ABC 2.2 12/30/2014 2
6 CBA 1.7 12/31/2014 1
7 CBA 1.8 12/30/2014 2
8 CBA 1.9 12/29/2014 3

I have three tables:

"PaidOrders"
As per below
SET ANSI_NULLS ON

SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON

SET ANSI_PADDING ON
GO

Is there a way to look at the DatePeriod table and use the StartDtae and EndDate as the periods to be used in the select statement and then cursor through each date between these two dates and then insert the data in to the PaymentsLog table?

Hi.,
Can anyone please assist me in getting the following SQL Query to work. It returns no errors but also returns no records even though there is actually data in my database for that period.
Dim DCriteria as StringDCriteria = "StartDate <= " & EDateDCriteria = DCriteria & " AND EndDate >= " & SDatestrSQL = "SELECT * FROM vwLeavePlan WHERE " & DCriteria
This results in the follwoing SQL Statement:
strSQL = SELECT * FROM vwLeavePlan WHERE StartDate <= 31/05/2005 AND EndDate >= 01/05/2005

For some reason this is just not "clicking" with me and the longer I stare at it the more I overcomplicate things and then I just confuse myself further...
Provided this relation showing where "pkey" and "skey" met on "ServiceDate":
Code:
skey pkey ServiceDate
--------------------------------------
123 1 11/12/2005
124 1 10/12/2005 *
123 2 10/02/2005
124 2 10/12/2005
124 2 11/12/2005
123 2 11/02/2005
I need to select out a list of distinct pkeys and skeys only when there was no meeting between the two in November 2005. In other words, this query would produce only one record - the starred record - when run against this sample table. This is because even though, for example, skey 124 / pkey 2 has an entry outside the desired range, it also has one inside the desired range. The same goes for the record outside our range for 123 and 2 - it also has a record inside our range.
At this point, I've come to the conclusion that I can first select all the distinct pkeys and skeys where the servicedate is not in 11/2005 then join it to a selection of distinct pkeys and skeys where the servicedate IS in the desired date range. Does that seem like the most straightforward way through this?
I don't get the impression that this is that complicated a problem, but it's one of those deals where I goofed up somewhere along the line, and now I think I'm really overthinking the problem, so I'd be much obliged if someone could give me a hearty slap to clear the ol' noggin.

How can I do this with Parameters? I can get a single parameter to filter for a single date (or even a combo list of the dates in DB). But I want my parameters to interact so that they specify a range. Is this possible?

Hi,
I currently think Im going mad!!
I have a large table (2+Million records, 2000+ new per day). If I want to count the records in one month, I could do :-
Select Count(*) from Table1 where Added_Date between '1999-12-01'
and '1999-12-31'
or
Select Count(*) from Table1 where Added_Date >= '1999-12-01' and
Added_Date <= '1999-12-31'
For these two above, I get the same result.
HOWEVER!!
If I then do:-
Select Count(*) from Table1 where Added_Date between '1999-12-01 00:00:00'
and '1999-12-31 23:59:59'
or use the >= and <= operators, the result is larger.
If I then do :-
Select Count(*) from Table1 where Added_Date between '1999-12-01 00:00:00.000' and '1999-12-31 23:59:59.999'
or use the >= and <= operators, the result is larger still but i believe this including more rows than there actually is?.
I can get over the problem programatically using Convert to truncate to a day, month or year however, I don't understand why the results are different.
Any Ideas as to why this is happening, A'm I being stupid!!!!!!!
(PS Added_Date has a non_clustered index which has been rebuilt twice and DBCC finds no errors)
Many thanks,
Peter Farley

I have a DATESMTD function which is not working. This is what is happening, if there is no row data for the month it creates a month to date total similar to the year to date total instead of zero. See below my formula:
MTDSUM:=CALCULATE(SUM('Combined Years Dataset'[Net]),DATESMTD('Combined Years Dataset'[Period2]),'Date'[date])
Period 2 is a column with dates (end of monthdates) in a table called Combined Years Dataset.
So, if I have $200.00 data for Aug and no data for Sept, the system puts in 200.00 as the month to date for Sept instead of zero. What can I do to make the system insert zero in the month to date column instead of the $200.00. What am I doing wrong in the formula.

I have this simplified query below to illustrate what I'm looking for. I would like to get the data for the time between the two dates in the where clause ('01-05-2015' and '10-03-2015'). In SQL it would be a BETWEEN. I'm looking for the MDX equivalent.
I have these dates hard coded but what I eventually will be doing is an @BeginDate / @EndDate parameter in an SSRS report.
SELECT [Measures].[Ship Resale S&D Run Rate] ON COLUMNS,
[Branches].[Region].[Region] ON ROWS
FROM [Sales]
WHERE [Time].[Date].&[01/05/2015]:[Time].[Date].&[10/30/2015]
*WHERE @BeginDate : @EndDate

What I am trying to do: Obtain attendance percentages for schools for the last five days. The outcome would look like this:
DISTRICTGROUPING, SCHOOLNAME, 5 DAYS AGO PCTG, 4 DAYS AGO PCTG, 3 DAYS AGO PCTG, 2 DAYS AGO PCTG, 1 DAY AGO PCTG
I am using nested subqueries for each day as follows: (total enrollment-total absent/total enrollment)
,(
((SELECTCOUNT(*)--GET TOTAL ENROLLMENT COUNT FOR SPECIFIED DATE
[Code]....
The query works with the following exceptions:
My issues are:
1. Avoid the "division by zero" error. This can occur if a school is closed for a day or if a smaller school has no absences for a day.
2. Avoid weekend dates. I need the query to display only weekdays
3. Currently I am using "PERCENTAGE 5: as a column header whereas I need the actual date as the header.

Ok, I'm looking to get counts on historical data where the number of records exists between two dates with different years. The trick is the that the dates fall in different years. Ex: Give me the number of records that are dated between 0ct 1, 2013 and July 1, 2014.
A previous post of mine was similar where I needed to get records after a specific date. The solution provided for that one was the following. This let me get any records that occured after May 1 per given Fiscal year.
SELECT
MAX(CASE WHEN DateFY = 2010 THEN Yr_Count ELSE 0 END) AS [FY10],
MAX(CASE WHEN DateFY = 2010 THEN May_Count ELSE 0 END) AS [May+10],
MAX(CASE WHEN DateFY = 2011 THEN Yr_Count ELSE 0 END) AS [FY11],
MAX(CASE WHEN DateFY = 2011 THEN May_Count ELSE 0 END) AS [May+11],
MAX(CASE WHEN DateFY = 2012 THEN Yr_Count ELSE 0 END) AS [FY12],
[Code] ....
I basically need to have CASE WHEN MONTH(OccuranceDate) between Oct 1 (beginning year) and July 1 (ending year).

I have an application where there is a form to enter some data to the sql server 2005 database.
when the form is submitted, I also use Date.Now to insert the date the article was submitted. It enters fine. E.g. if I submitted it today, it would display 08/06/2006 (which is 06 August 2006). When getting the records, I use, "dd MMM yyyy" to format the date according to my culture. However, the result I get is 08 June 2006
What might be the problem. I hate working with dates with sql server

Hi,
My ultimate goal is to display records within a date range. I am using dropdown lists populated from the database as start and end dates for the ultimate SQL Statement. The field is a smallDateTime type.
The begining date populates without todays date using the following:
connection.Open();
//Auto fill fields
SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand("Select distinct CONVERT(NVARCHAR(10),insertDate,101) as iDate from surveyOwner order by iDate DESC", connection);
command.ExecuteNonQuery();
SqlDataReader reader = command.ExecuteReader();
while (reader.Read())
{
FirstDate.DataTextField = "iDate";
FirstDate.DataSource = reader;
FirstDate.DataBind();
}
connection.Close();
}
It works great except records with todays date are excluded throughout.
I was hoping there was something small I was missing.
Thanks,
Doug

Hello, really need some help here!
I've been inserting dates from an asp page into an sql server db in mm/dd/yyyy format, which is what is accepted using smalldatetime. However, when I retrieve a date from the db and display it on my page, it is in dd/mm/yyyy format. This wouldn't be a problem, but if I want to update details in the same table as the date, but keep the date the same, the dd/mm/yyyy format is not accepted. Anyone have any idea what's going on here? sql server seems to accept dates in one format and output them in another...

I'm converting my Access 2003 DB to SQL Server 2005 Express and I use date range comparisons all the time. I learned that the dates also include a time in SQL Server which to me right now seems is going to be a hassle. I don't need the time at all. There will be many times when the current date will be input into a record. All I want is the date part. My first thought was to extract the date part each time I need to use it, but it would be better if I could come up with a test condition that will take any date/time and give the right results. I read about one that uses the following:
get the any dates between 1/1/2006 and 12/31/2006.
The test conditon would be:
SELECT * WHERE(date >= 1/1/2006 AND date < 1/1/2007)
You add a day to your upper range and use the less than operator. This wouldn't be so bad for static dates, but each time I used a dynamic date I'd have to add one day to the upper range before testing. I also read using any kind of function or the "Like" operator on a date renders the indexes useless.
I guess what I'm looking for is method to get the results similar to using the "BETWEEN" statement where I don't have to manipulate any of the dates prior or during testing.
My thought right now is from a different perspective. Any time I need the current date I'd truncate the time part leaving me with a date and a time part of "00:00:00". My only problem with this is what if in code I accidentally forget to truncate the time. I could see this happen giving how much I need to use the current date and being used to not having to worry about the time part.
Any help with this will be greatly appreciated. I think this is my last major hurdle before I'm convinced everything will convert over nicely to SQL Server.

I have an application that is running fine on my development server but it seems to be crashing when I moved it to the production server. The problem is that the production server reads dates like "5/10/2004" or "12/25/2004" from SQL table and interprets them as "10/31/2004" and "25/17/2004" thus displaying a System.InvalidCastException error page that "10/31/2004" or "25/17/2004" could not be converted to a DATE type.
I really don't know why the system is replacing the actual dates in SQL by the last day of that specific month and even worse, replaced the month of December (12) above with the number 17. As far as I know noone changed any date settings on the server but I really don't know where or what exactly to check besides the regional options in control panel.
Please help.

No matter what date value I'm giving the query, the value saved is 1/1/1900 00:00 .
Also, I'm interested in saving only the short date, without time. I thought changing the type from datetime to smalldatetime would do the job, but it didn't help.

Hi Guys,I need some help here. I've created a asp.net reception system for internal use. The problem I'm having is this, when I update a record all the dates are saved as 01/01/1900. I've had a look at a couple of threads on various forums and sites but none of them seem to have a solution for my problem... I have an AJAX calenderExtenders on the date text boxes and i have played around with all different date formats, currently on yyyy/MM/dd. I've also tried DateTime.Parse(txtStartDate.text) but doesn't work. I pass all the parameters to a stored procedure on the sql server in the correct order. I've included my code below, I have only included date parameters. SqlConnection conn = null; try { string connString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["RCM"].ConnectionString; //Initialise the sqlConnection object conn = new SqlConnection(); conn.ConnectionString = connString; //Getting connection string to the db //Create the command SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand("UpdateClient", conn); command.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; //Opening connection to the db conn.Open(); //Setting input parameters command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@DOB", txtDOB.Text); command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@StartDate",txtStartDate.Text); //Execute T-SQL command.ExecuteNonQuery(); //Close connection command.Connection.Close(); conn.Close(); } catch (Exception ex) { lblError.Text = "An error has occured: " + ex.Message; }
