Problem Returning Two Values From Stored Procedures

Jan 29, 2004

Hi, i am trying to return two values from SQL 2000 using a single stored procedure. The stored working fine in Query Analyser and returns the two values and two grids in the results window.

My problem is that when i execute the stored procedure using ADO.Net the dataset only has one of the values. e.g TId : 2, where it should read 'TId' : 2, 'ConfigPath': 'C:lah'

Please could anyone shed ligth on this problem?

here the code for the stored procedure:

CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.GetTillInfo

(

@TillIdR varchar(50),

@Password varchar(50)

)

AS

declare @TillId int

declare @configpath varchar(150)

IF Exists (SELECT Id FROM Tills WHERE TillRef=@TillId and TillPassword=@Password)

BEGIN

set @TillIdR = (SELECT Id FROM Tills WHERE TillRef=@TillId and TillPassword=@Password)

select @TillIdR as 'TId'

set @configpath = (SELECT configpath from customer,tills where

tills.customerid = customer.id and tills.id = @login)

select @configpath as 'ConfigPath'

END

ELSE

BEGIN

set @TillIdR = 0

select @TillIdR as 'TId'

set @configpath =''

select @configpath as 'ConfigPath'

END

Returning Scope_Identity From Stored Procedures

Feb 25, 2006

Hi:
I've seen a lot of posts about returning the identity after an insert but for every variation, the return value or output parameter is null.  Below is the sp, SQLDataSource and vb code for the return value attempt.
Here is the stored procedure:
   ALTER PROCEDURE dbo.sp_InsertPlayer
   (
   @UserName varchar(64),
   @Email varchar(128)

   )
   AS
   INSERT INTO tblPlayer ([UserName], )
   VALUES (@UserName, @Email)
   RETURN SCOPE_IDENTITY()

If the sp is executed in the SQL Express that is included in VS 2005,  the return value is the last autogenerated PlayerId.
SqlDataSource:
   <asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataPlayer" runat="server"
   ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ConnectionString %>"
   SelectCommand ...
   InsertCommand="sp_InsertPlayer"
   InsertCommandType="StoredProcedure"
   >
...
   <InsertParameters>
   <asp:Parameter Name="RETURN_VALUE" Direction="ReturnValue" Type="Int32" />
   <asp:Parameter Name="UserName" Type="String" />
   <asp:Parameter Name="Email" Type="String" />

   </InsertParameters>
</asp:SqlDataSource>
code behind vb:
   SqlDataPlayer.InsertParameters("UserName").DefaultValue = CreateUserWizard1.UserName
   SqlDataPlayer.InsertParameters("Email").DefaultValue = CreateUserWizard1.Email
   SqlDataPlayer.Insert()
   Profile.PlayerId = SqlDataPlayer.InsertParameters("RETURN_VALUE").DefaultValue
The DefaultValue is Nothing.
Thanks for your help again.

Visual Studio And Stored Procedures With Uniqueidentifier Not Returning Results

Jul 27, 2007

I have a stored procedure which simply does a SELECT on a table.  This table has as a column a uniqueidentifier, which is not part of the PK.  If I execute this procedure with the SQL Server tools, it works fine and returns the expected results. If I execute this SP with Visual Studio, or ASP.NET, no results are returned and the following comes back:Running [dbo].[spServiceDetail_Get] ( @ServiceDetailID = <DEFAULT>, @VictimWitnessID = <DEFAULT>).ServiceDetailID VictimWitnessID                                                                                                                                                                                                                       --------------- -------------------------------------- No rows affected.(1 row(s) returned)@RETURN_VALUE = 0Finished running [dbo].[spServiceDetail_Get].  Any ideas what is going wrong?  This seems to be a common problem for many of our tables with a uniqueidentifier in them, and is specifically with VS 2005 and ASP.NET ObjectDataSources.

Returning Parameter Values From Stored Procedure

Oct 16, 2001

I am having trouble using Output parameters. I have set up an Execute SQL Task to call a Stored Procedure. I am passing an input parameter and indicating 1 global variable for output to retrieve a unique value from the stored procedure call. When I execute the step, it completes successfully but nothing is returned in my output parameter for the unique value??? Below is the call that I use:

EXEC SYS_GENERATE_ID ?

-in the Execute SQL Task I click the Parameters button to set up the input:
Status = Parameter1
and the Output Variable Type:
Rowset = GUID.

the stored procedure:
CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.SYS_GENERATE_ID
(@Statusvarchar(20),
@GUID uniqueidentifier = NULL OUTPUT)
AS
BEGIN
SET @GUID = NEWID()
INSERT INTO dbo.ACTIVITY (GUID, STATUS)
VALUES (@GUID, @Status)
SET @GUID = convert(varchar(50), @GUID)
RETURN @@ERROR
END

A table is correctly populated but the GUID value does not make it back to the calling task??? The Global Variable Type under Package Properties has been changed to "Dispatch" and the value is "Not Displayable"???
Any help that is offered will be appreciated GREATLY!!

Return Distinct Values From Stored Procedures

Aug 17, 2006

I need to somehow filter the results of my stored procedure to return the distinct "OrderNum" values. I'm using SQL database and I'm look for a way to alter the results from the stored procedure. My stored procedure rptOpenOrderLines currently returns all invoices (items under a OrderNum). I want to somehow filter those results to return one and only one of those "OrderNum" variables from the invoices. The tricky part is that I need to somehow find a way to do this without going into my database and directly altering the SQL stored procedure. I would be happy for any recommendations/ideas. Thanks!

Passing Null Values To Stored Procedures

Aug 29, 2006

Version: ASP.Net 2.0Language: C#Hello Everyone!I'm saving data from a function to an SQL Server 2000 db via a stored procedure. There are a few fields which are conditional and thus need not be passed to the procedure everytime. Under those circumstances I need to store null values in the fields.The problem is if I the value of the parameter as null, VS throws the error that a required parameter is not passed. I tried setting 'IsNullable' property of the parameter to true but it works for only those fields who are declared NULL in the stored procedure (For e.g. @DOB DATETIME = NULL).Strangely, this works well in classic ASP.Does anyone know how to accomplish this? Note, altering stored procedures is not an option for me.Thanks a lot!

Retrieving Scalar Or Calculated Values From Stored Procedures With C#

Feb 4, 2007

I am trying to build an Sql page hit provider.  I am having trouble getting a count back from the database.  If I use ExecuteScalar it doesn't see any value in the returned R1C1.  If I use ExecuteNonQuery with a @ReturnValue, the return value parameter value is always zero.  Ideally I would like to use a dynamic stored proceudre if there are any suggestions for using them with C#.  My table has rvPathName, userName and a date.  I have the AddWebPageHit method working so I know data connection and sql support code in provider is working.  I think the problem is either in how I am writing the stored procedures or how I am trying to retrieve the data in C#.  Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

I try to do an ADO.NET 2.0-VB 2005 programming in my VB 2005 Express to get @percentage printed out in the VB Form1. I read some articles in the websites and MSDN about this task and I am very confused about "How to Work with Output Parameters & Report their Values in VB Forms": (1) Do I need the Form.vb [Design] and specify its properties of the object and classes I want to printout? (2) After the SqlConnectionString and the connection.Open(), how can I bring the value of @percentage to the Form.vb? (3) The following is my imcomplete, crude draft code:

Imports System.Data
Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Imports System.Data.SqlTypes

Public Class Form1

Dim connectionString As String = "Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=pubs;Integrated Security=SSPI;"

Dim connection As SqlConnection = New

SqlConnection(connectionString)

Try

connection.Open()

Dim command As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand("byroyalty", connection)

command.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure

etc.

From the above-mentioned (1), (2) and (3), you can see how much I am lost/confused in attempting to do this task. Please help and give me some guidances and good key instructions for getting the output parameter printed out in the FORM.vb in my VB 2005 Express project.

Stored Procedures 2005 Vs Stored Procedures 2000

Hi,

This Might be a really simple thing, however we have just installed SQL server 2005 on a new server, and are having difficulties with the set up of the Store Procedures. Every time we try to modify an existing stored procedure it attempts to save it as an SQL file, unlike in 2000 where it saved it as part of the database itself.

Thank you in advance for any help on this matter

Returning Null Values

Jun 4, 2007

I have a simple table on my webpage which shows data from my database.
It all worked fine apart from one part. I wanted the select statement to select only NULL values from a column, as these are classed as open queries. Once I have closed the query a 0 or 1 will automatically be posted and will no longer have a NULL value.
I have a simple select statement (which I will post on here when I log in with my work computer) and at the end I have a WHERE Column = NULL. I have also tried WHERE column <> 0.0 AND column <>1.0 and that did not work.
If I only did WHERE column <> 1.0, i only get the 0.0 results and none of the NULL results, but if I have no WHERE statement I get all the results including the NULL values.

The method to calculate the balance for any year is to startfrom the Minimum year in the Books table and continue upto the requiredyear. The SQL is as follows.DECLARE @iLedgerID AS INT --will be passed as parameterDECLARE @iYear as INT --will be passed as parameterDECLARE @CurrentBalance as MONEYSET @iLedgerID =1DECLARE @MinBook as INTEGERDECLARE @String nVarchar(4000)SELECT @MinBook = Min(BookYear)FROM BooksWHILE @MinBook <= @iYearBEGINSET @String = ' DECLARE @TT Money ' + char(13) +' SELECT @TT = ISNULL( SUM( ISNULL(Debit,0) - ISNULL(Credit,0) ),0 )'+ ' FROM transactions' + CAST(@MinBook AS CHAR(4)) + ' LEFT OUTER JOINdbo.Vouchers' + CAST(@MinBook AS CHAR(4)) + ' ON dbo.Transactions' +CAST(@MinBook AS CHAR(4)) + '.VoucherID' + ' = dbo.Vouchers' +CAST(@MinBook AS CHAR(4)) + '.VoucherID ' +'WHERE (LedgerID = @iLedgerID)'EXEC sp_executesql @String, N'@iLedgerID Int', @iLedgerID */SET @MinBook = @MinBook + 1ENDNow this is just a sample code.
