Problem Sorting Data Returned From Database

 I need help in sorting data return from database. For example, I have the following data:
ID             field1                                                                                                                                                                                                             1              Computer                                                                                                                                                                                                       2               Cell Phone                                                                                                                                                                                                    3                iPod                                                                                                                                                                                                            4                Car                   

I know that a select statement will look something like this: SELECT field1 FROM table ORDER BY field1. However, I want the data to be display this way in the gridview:
ID             field1                                                  
                                                                       
                                                                       
          3              iPod                                        
                                                                       
                                                                       
                     1              Computer                      
                                                                    
                                                                       
                                 2              Cell Phone                  
                                                                      
                                                                       
                                   4              Car   
Any idea of how I can make this happen. Any idea is appreciated.
