Problem To Connect Access 2003 To SQL Server 2005 Express

Jan 10, 2006

Hello,

after successfully connect Access to the Server I want to add a table. I got an error message:

With this version of MS Office Access you are not able to make any drafts because this version of SQL server you are connected to does not support this. Check the MS Office update website for the newest downloads.

You habe connected to a version of SQL server which is newer than SQL server 2000.

Versions:

SQL Server runs on a MS Server 2003 SP1

Access 2003 (11.6566.6568 SP2) on an MS XP Pro SP1

all on actual patch level. Any ideas what's wrong?

:-) Klaus

Access 2003 To SQL Server 2005 Express No Hyperlink

Dec 1, 2006

I upgraded an Access 2003 database to SQL Server 2005 Express with the upsize wizard- worked great! Have a field that needs to be a hyperlink data type. There is no datatype in SQL that is hyperlink. Even if it were a text field, possibly inserting a hyperlink would work, but the insert hyplink in Access is unavailable, because the datasource is sql, maybe. I have a command button that ties to this function which won't work, obviously since it is not available. I need this field, it points to a file containing data that is being imported into the database. Huge piece of the database functionality. Making it easy for the user to find the file and using the vba to convert the data.

Saw the option of jump to url, but I don't think that will work? couldn't find the exact syntax either.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Problem With Access 2003 And Sql Server 2005 Express Connection

I have an Access 2003 project (sp2) and the data in SQL Server 2005 Express.
My problem is when I try to make querys, diagrams, etc in Access, a warning tell me that I have installed a version of Access that is older than the version of SQL and all the designs that I make not be saved, and recommend a service pack for Access 2003 to correct the problem.
Can anybody help me, where is this SP??

SQL 2005 Express And Access 2003 SP2 Adp. Please Help

Mar 22, 2007

Hi all,

I have SQL Server 2005 Express running and I am creating a database through access (Access 2003 SP2) and no problem it creates the database...

But when I try to create other objects like views and database diagrams, I get the message below which is quite detailed but I just don't know where to get the service packs or updates needed to have this problem solved. Can anyone point out what the problem and the fixes are?

Here is the message that I get:

"This version of MS Office Access doesn't support design changes with the version of MS SQL Server
your access project is connected to. See MS Office Update Website for the latest information and
downloads (on the Help menu, click Office on the Web). YOur design changes will not be saved.

You have connected to a version of SQL server later than SQL Server 2000. This version of Visual Studio
or Access that you are using was released before teh version of SQL Server to which you are connected.
For this reason you might encounter problems.

Please check with MS to see if there is a service pack that you should apply to Visual Studio or Office
in order to get support for the version of SQL Server to which you are connected.

You can continue but any new object types might not be enumerated, and it will not be possible to
save any objects or database diagrams thatyou create using the Visual Database Tools."

Access 2003 With SQL Express 2005

Nov 15, 2006

I am a fresher in using SQL with access.

I am using a code in Ms access to link a table that is in Sql express 2005.

I use this linked table name to download records to the local Access table.

The link is then dropped in Access.

Is there any way to write back records into the linked Sql table from Access.

It does not allow me to delete / add / modify records of a linked table.

How can I do this.

Unable To Connect - SQL Express On Server 2003 From Vista

Nov 19, 2006

Getting error 1326.

I'm running SQL Express on Server 2003 SP1 (workstation - although, I did dcpromo promote and demote prior to installing SQL Express).

I'm trying to connect from SQL Studio Express on Vista.

TCP and Named Pipes are selected in Surface Area Config; sp_config remote, access..., 1 was run (per KB); ports 1433 & 1434 are open (I think 435 also was opened when I ran the KB instructions); Mixed mode is selected, user is set for SQL Auth, password is correct; all permissions are granted.

I found an article online which stated that mixed versions of MDAC can lead to the problem. The server has 2.82.1830 and the client has 6.0.5600.16834. Could this be the problem? If so, how to solve?

Thanks, John

SQL Server Express And Access 2003

Apr 7, 2006

I recently started developing a new Access project for a client, and decided to try out Access 2003 with SQL Express 2005. Everything was going fine until I tried to modify a table from within Access. I got an error message that SQL Express is incompatible with Access 2003, and it suggested I go to the Microsoft website and search for a patch/upgrade to solve this.

I tried to ignore it, and it started warning me that none of my table edits would be saved.

I looked around, but I can't find anything about this.

Is this true? Is there a patch to fix this?

Trying To Access SQL SERVER 2005 With Access 2003

Dec 18, 2006

I am trying to connect through ODBC connectivity, but it will not allow me to do so. I have investigated this matter. It leads me back to the server, because as I was configuring my client side database. It kept asking for the DSN(datasource name), but I was unable to choose one because there wasn't one to choose. Which is my current dilemma, How can I do this and have it available to choose from the server to satisfy the Access database?

I went to the domain where the software resides but I don't know what steps to take? I also found an interesting piece on microsoft about Kerberos, but I can't follow along according to the instructions it has. I have Access 2003 & SQL SERVER 2005, HELP...!

Basically, this is right off the heels of the install. I setup the server without the connectivity, but it is running the current configuration.

How Do I Connect Client Machines To SQL Server 2005 Installed On A Windows 2003 Server

Apr 11, 2008

I am new to SQL server 2005

Windows 2003 Server and all client PCs are all on the same network. I installed SQL 2005 std version on windows server 2003 and created a database and tables in it.

I have two users, who want to connect to SQL server 2005 from their PCs (they have windows XP):

These are two things that I need to facilitate:

1) They want to be able to write queries using Query Designer and run from their PCs.

2) I created an MS Access database on my PC, I want to use Access database as a front end to the SQL server database. I will create queries, forms in Access DB, and I want to be able to get the data from SQL server Database to do this. I guess I can use ODBC to connect to tables in SQL server database.

3) I want to connect SQL server to Oracle database, and run oracle stored procedures. I want to load the results of oracle stored procedures into SQL server database tables. I guess I will use IIS for this.

Any suggestions are appreciated, especially with item number 1.

Using MS Access 2003 Project With SQL Server 2005

I continue to receive an error that states "The version of Microsoft Access doesn't support design changes with the version of Microsoft SQL Server your Access project is connected to. See the Microsoft update website for the latest information."

I'm using Access 2003 that I ran a database through the Upzinging Wizard with a copy of SQL Server 2005.

I have searched the Office Update pages and can't locate anything that helps, although I'm sure I'm probably missing something.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Cannot Connect W/ Java App But Can Connect W/ .Net App - SQL Server Express 2005

Dec 12, 2006

I'm having a problem connecting with a Java application but I CAN connect using my .Net application - the user name and password are the same for both (using the same database on SQL Server Express 2005).

The error I get is: "com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: Cannot open database "CORNERS" requested by the login. The login failed." An interesing note - I get the same message if the database is not running.

SQL Server Express 2005 is installed in mixed mode.

Here is my connection string in the .Net appplication: <add key="connectString" value="Server=(local);UID=sa;PWD=myPasswd;Database=CORNERS" />.

These are my values in my Java app web.xml -

<init-param>
<param-name>DBDriver</param-name>
<param-value>com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver</param-value>
</init-param>
<init-param>
<param-name>DBURL</param-name> <param-value>jdbc:sqlserver://localhostsqlexpress:1055;databaseName=CORNERS</param-value>
</init-param>
<init-param>
<param-name>DBUser</param-name>
<param-value>sa</param-value>
</init-param>
<init-param>
<param-name>DBPwd</param-name>
<param-value>myPasswd</param-value>
</init-param>.

And yes, the port is 1055 - I checked to find it.

I am using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver 1.0 (sqljdbc_1.0.809.102).

Does anyone have any idea what is wrong so that the login fails in the Java application but works in the .Net application?

Can't Add A Linked Table To SQL Server 2005 With Access 2003

Oct 26, 2006

Hi,

I have an Access 2003 front end that contains a number of linked tables on SQL Server 2005 SE. I recreated the application on a second network for testing and was able to use the Linked Table Manager to refresh the database connections. The problem is when I try and add another linked table. I select Link Tables from the menu and then when I select 'ODBC Databases()' from the 'Files of Type' list box, the Link window closes right away.

Any suggestions?

Import Data From Access 2003 To SQL Server 2005 Via T SQL ?

Oct 5, 2007

I have a customer using a web app where the data is drawn from a database in SQL Server 2005.

In addition to its normal tables, the database has two lookup tables which are deleted, recreated, and repopulated once a week. The data for these two tables comes from two queries in an Access database which essentially turn many related tables into two flat tables.

I know this can be done with SSIS, I've done it, I suppose it could be done witth SSMA for Access, but could this operation be done with a stored prodecure ? Most steps would not be a problems. They would be:

- Drop the two tables in SQL Server (no problem)
- Recreate them (no problem, maybe better to just delete all existing records, either way)

- Connect to the query in the Access database (here is where I have questions)
- Simply do an INSERT from the Access query to the SQL table.

So my question is whether we can connect to an Acess query from a stored proc, I suppose using ODBC.

Can this be done? If so how? Are there any papers on this topic?

Msny thanks,
Mike Thomas

Can I Use MS SQL Server Express 2005 In Visual Studio 2003?

Aug 3, 2007

I have been experiencing troubles since I was decided to install SQL Server Expr 2005 in my PC, first I needed to remove the .NET framework 1.1 in my computer because it is suggested before installing sql server expr 2k5 that cause my vs.net 2003 to stop loading because sql express runs in .NET framework 2.0 and vs.net 2003 is in .Net Framework 1.1 then what I did is to install .Net Framework 1.1 in my PC together with .Net Framework 2.0 and my vs.net started runnning again.

My problem now is when I try to connect to a database using Data Link Properties in the Server Explorer it says "[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen](Connect()).]Sql server does not exist or access denied." how could this happen if I can see the sql server in the Server Explorer in my VS.net environment?

Please somebody help me I am just learning to this language and I think I cannot proceed to the next few chapters remaining because of this.

Thank you very much!

Can't Connect To SQL Server Express - Error Access Denied

May 19, 2008

Hi,

I have been for years using the following code locally in native ASP (except different UID and PWD and file path for the msado15.dll) with SQL Server 2000 on XP to do my development and then I upload to the web site later (uses different objConn etc when live). I've now tried to use the same for SQL Server Express and Vista and always get the "does not exist or access denied" error ( 2147467259).

I only want to use SQL Server locally from the machine I'm developing on as I upload the tested "ASP" code to the server which runs it. The SQL Server Browser is running and I have checked the Firewall exclusions for sqlservr.exe. Also I installed it with out Windows Logon (same as I had for SQL Server 2000).

Any ideas, I tried using the Data Source=localhost instead of explicitly defing the path except that had no affect either, I also changed the rshstest_data.mbf to rshstest.mbf as well also to no affect as there appears a difference with this in 2000 and Express?

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks..

I Can No Longer Connect To My SQL Server Express 2005 From Manager Studio Express

Sep 28, 2006

Everything was working fine. I have been able to connect using windows authentication. Then, I went into the ODBC manager to add a data source and it failed to connect so I went back into the Server management studio to modify users. After doing this I now get an error when I try to conenct the management studio to the SQL server.

I wasn't modifying the login for my windows account that I normally use, I was modifying a different one, however I now get the message "An error has occured while establishing a connection to the SQL server. This kind of problem can ocure because the default behavior of the server does not support all connection methods" blah blah.

Does anyone know how I can attach to the server? Or, do I need to somehow remove the server and create a new one? How would I do that?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Whether SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Can Work With Visual Studio 2003 (Ver 1.1)

Mar 3, 2006

We are new to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. We are going to develope a solution for one of our client and we have to decide on which database to use for the solution. Client wanted to have a low cost solution. Thus we were not in a position to push them for SQL Sever 2000.

In the process, we also thought of having MySQL as one of the option. Another option we have is to use SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.

We wanted to know if SQL Server 2005 Express Edition can be used with Visual Studion 2003 (Ver 1.1) or it can only be used with Visual Studio 2005 (Ver 2.0)?

Hope to get feedback soon.

Setup Issue: Unable To Install SQL Server 2005 Express On Windows 2003 Server SP2

Aug 17, 2006

Hello Experts,

I have been unable to install SQL Express 2005 Server on my Windows 2003 Server (with SP2 installed). I keep getting an error message saying that Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 is not installed.

So, I downloaded Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 v2 (WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe) but whenever I try to install it I get an error message saying that "the Service Pack version of this system is newer than the update you are applying" and that there is no need to install the update and it stops there.

Is there a workaround to this? How can I get Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 installed? I tried going to the Windows Update site, I already have everything installed and I even started the Windows Installer service manually. Has anyone else experienced this?

How can I get SQL Server 2005 Express installed if not how can I install SQL Server 2000 on tihs machine? The only reason I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 is because wanted to try it so I uninstalled SQL Server 2000 now I can no longer install SQL Server 2000 again because it won't let me because of the SP2 patch.

Help! :(
