Problem Use Sqldatasource To Access Stored Procedure And Get Data Bind To Label Control
Aug 30, 2007
Hi every experts
I have a exist Stored Procedure in SQL 2005 Server, the stored procedure contain few output parameter, I have no problem to get result from output parameter to display using label control by using SqlCommand in Visual Studio 2003. Now new in Visual Studio 2005, I can't use sqlcommand wizard anymore, therefore I try to use the new sqldatasource control. When I Configure Datasource in Sqldatasource wizard, I assign select field using exist stored procedure, the wizard control return all parameter in the list with auto assign the direction type(input/ouput....), after that, whatever I try, I click on Test Query Button at last part, I always get error message The Query did not return any data table.
My Question is How can I setup sqldatasource to access Stored Procedure which contain output parameter, and after that How can I assign the output parameter value to bind to the label control's Text field to show on web?
how can i display the result of an asp:SqlDataSource into a lable control.the sqldatasource returns the count for some thing ie "select count(*) as total from tbl"please help
Hi,What's the 'new' declarative way to fetch one field from a SQL table and display the result in a Label control?I have a users table with a fullname field. I want to query the table and retrieve the fullname where the usertable.username = Session("loggedinuser")I can make the SqlDataSource ok that has the correct Select query, but not sure how to bind the label to that.thanks,Bruce
Hi all,I would like to do something I thought was simple but I can't seem to figure it out. I would like to bind the Text properties to two labels to the columns in an SqlDataSource, much the same as you can bind a listbox to a SqlDataSource.Is this possible?The reason why I'm trying it this way is because I originally used an OleDB connection and datareader, but it doesn't seem to work on our service providers server (keeps saying that it can't find the database) even though it works on the four other server's I've tried. It definitely connects to the database when I use the SqlDataSource on a listbox control, but it fails when I use the same connection string with the OleDB connection.Is this the best way to go about it, or should I persist with finding the OleDB/datareader (the service provider has been no help at all). Thanks.
Hi, I'm reasonably new to ASP.NET 2.0 I'm in my wizard_FinishButtonClick event, and from here, I want to take data from the form and some session variables and put it into my database via a stored procedure. I also want the stored procedure to return an output value. I do not need to perform a select or a delete. For the life of me, I can't find a single example online or in my reference books that tells me how to accomplish this task using a SqlDataSource control. I can find lots of examples on sqldatasources that have a select statements (I don't need one) and use insert and update sql statements instead of stored procedures (I use stored procedures). I desperately need the syntax to: a) create the SqlDataSource with the appropriate syntax for calling a stored procedure to update and/or insert (again, this design side of VS2005 won't let me configure this datasource without including a select statement...which I don't need). b) syntax on how to create the parameters that will be sent to the stored procedure for this sqldatasource (including output parameters). c) syntax on how to set the values for these parameters (again...coming from form controls and session variables) d) syntax on how to execute, in the code-behind, the stored procedure via the sqldatasource. If anybody has sample code or a link or two, I would be most appreciative. Thank you in advance for any help!
I have tried to code a href link to bind the data from a Stored Procedure, as shown below.This herf string failed. How to use these special characters, ' < " > ) ?Or how can I use sb(string builder), which I have used successfully for display the data. TIA,Jeffrey<%cmd.CommandText = "MyProgramsA"cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedurecmd.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@meid", SqlDbType.Int))cmd.Parameters("@meid").Value = EmpIdcmd.Connection = sqlConnection2sqlConnection2.Open()reader4 = cmd.ExecuteReader()While reader4.Read()%> <a href="http://sca3a56/'<% reader4(i).ToString() %>' "><% Response.Write(sb3) %></a><br /> <br />
I know a sql stored procedure can return >1 tables. How can I use .Net 2.0 to read these tables one at a time, for example the first one could iterate Forum entries and the second one all internal links used in these forums... The idea is to use fewer backtrips to the sql server?
I'm trying to re-write my database to de-couple the interface (MS Access) from the SQL Backend. Â As a result, I'm going to write a number of Stored Procedures to replace the MS Access code. Â My first attempt worked on a small sample, however, trying to move this on to a real table hasn't worked (I've amended the SP and code to try and get it to work on 2 fields, rather than the full 20 plus).It works in SQL Management console (supply a Client ID, it returns all the client details), but does not return anything (recordset closed) when trying to access via VBA code.The Stored procedure is:-
USE [VMSProd] GO /****** Object: StoredProcedure [Clients].[vms_Get_Specified_Client] Script Date: 22/09/2015 16:29:59 ******/ SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
I have a Gridview bound to a SQLDataSource that uses a Stored Procedure expecting 1 or 2 parameters. The parameters are bound to textbox controls. The SP looks up a person by name, the textboxes are Last Name, First Name. It will handle last name only (ie. pass @ln ='Jones' and @fn=null and you get all the people with last name=Jones. I tested the SP in Management Studio and it works as expected. When I enter a last name in the Last Name textbox and no First Name I get no results. If I enter a Last Name AND First Name I get results. I don't understand. Here's the HTML View of the page. The only code is to bind the Gridview when the Search button is pressed. <%@ Page Language="VB" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="Default.aspx.vb" Inherits="_Default" %> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd"><html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><head runat="server"> <title>Untitled Page</title></head><body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <div> <asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server" TabIndex=1></asp:TextBox> <asp:TextBox ID="TextBox2" runat="server" TabIndex=2></asp:TextBox> <asp:Button ID="Button1" runat="server" Text="Search" TabIndex=3 /> <hr /> </div> <asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" AllowPaging="True" AllowSorting="True" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1" DataKeyNames="EmpID" CellPadding="4" EnableSortingAndPagingCallbacks="True" ForeColor="#333333" GridLines="None" AutoGenerateColumns="False"> <Columns> <asp:BoundField DataField="EmpID" HeaderText="Emp ID" ReadOnly="True" SortExpression="EmpID" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="FullName" HeaderText="Full Name" SortExpression="FullName" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="Nickname" HeaderText="Nickname" ReadOnly="True" SortExpression="Nickname" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="BGS2" HeaderText="BGS2" SortExpression="BGS2" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="Phone" HeaderText="Phone" SortExpression="Phone" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="email" HeaderText="Email" SortExpression="email" /> </Columns> </asp:GridView> <asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:EmpbaseConnectionString %>" SelectCommand="GetByName" SelectCommandType="StoredProcedure"> <SelectParameters> <asp:ControlParameter ControlID="TextBox2" Name="fn" PropertyName="Text" Type="String" ConvertEmptyStringToNull=true/> <asp:ControlParameter ControlID="TextBox1" Name="ln" PropertyName="Text" Type="String" ConvertEmptyStringToNull=true/> </SelectParameters> </asp:SqlDataSource> </form> </body></html>
Is it possible to place a stored procedure in a SQLDataSource control that needs a variable input then run it later? DETAILS I have 2 pages with gridview controls that are linked to a SQLDataSource controls. What I would like to do is when the user clicks on a link in the gridview of the first page I want to take the value of the link clicked and pass it to the second page where it is placed into a variable that would be used in a WHERE clause to fill the second pages gridview. I have no problem getting the value into a variable in the page load event of the second page. What I would be nice is since the gridview is already tied to a SQLDataSource control with the columns specified is if I could some how pass the variable to a stored procedure in the control so I don't have to manually pull and fill the data. Any thoughts would be apperciated. Thanks, Ty
Hi, This is my problem : I have listBox1, listBox2 controls bound to sqldatasource1 and sqldatasource2. I wrote one stored procedure to retrieve data from my sql database like : select Id, Name,Address,Amount from KalakaDB
Now I want my listBox1 to display Name By name and my listBox2 to display Amount by decrease order how can i connect my sqldatacontrol to the stored procedure ?
With a Gridview Control, I set the SqlDataSource to be a stored procedure in a Sql Sever database. Using the wizzard to configure the datasource, the test returns lots of rows. After completing the wizzard, the gridview control does not show the column names in the VS2005 designer. For the gridview column headers the values are Databound Col0, Databound Col1, Databound Col2, ....) This tells me I have a problem. I tried the same thing with a simpler stored procedure. This test stored procedure does not call anything else, takes several input parameters, returns rows. The column names show in the gridview control as expected. So I am trying to figure out why the first case of gridview with sqldatasource is not working and the second case works . The stored procedure that is not working with my gridview calls multiple inner stored procedures and has #TEMP tables. My complex stored procedure ends with Select * from #Temp. Could the calling of other inner stored procedures and use of #temp tables contribute to the problem? If yes then what is the strategy for using a gridview and loading it with the data that the complex stored procedure returns?
I have made a SQLDataSource control with the select command: SELECT COUNT(*) AS 'Antall' FROM Utgivelse WHERE (medieID = @medieID) I want to use the "Antall" result programmatically in C# code. I try the following statement: IDataReader MyReader;
MyReader = CType(SqlDataSource2.Select(DataSourceSelectArguments.Empty),IDataReader); but it doesnot work. Can somebody help me how to get the data from th control ? Tom

I just want to insert a record into a table using a SqlDataSource control. But I'm having a hard time finding examples that don't use data bound controlsI have this so far (I deleted the parts not related to the insert):<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource2" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:UserPolls %>" InsertCommand="INSERT INTO [PollAnswers] ([PollId], [AnswerText], [AnswerCount]) VALUES (@PollId, @AnswerText, @AnswerCount)" <InsertParameters> <asp:Parameter Name="PollId" Type="Int32" /> <asp:Parameter Name="AnswerText" Type="String" /> <asp:Parameter Name="AnswerCount" Type="Int32" /> </InsertParameters> </asp:SqlDataSource> This is the data source for a gridview control I have on the page. I could set up an SqlDataSource for this alone if I need to, but i don't know if it would help. From what I could find, in the code behind I should haveSqlDataSource2.Insert()and SqlDataSource2 will grab the parameters and insert the record. The problem is I need to set the Pollid (from a session variable) and AnswerText (from a text box) at run time. Can I do this?Diane
Let's say... the sqldatasource has 3 columns: TableKey(int), TableName(string) and StartDate(datetime) and i'm writing a method to return the data type based on the column name.. for example: GetDataType("StartDate") should return "datetime"...what should i do?
Hi can anyone tell meHow to bind messages in storedproc to lable control in the front end.I have a stored proc which updates the data table.in certain condition update should not take place and a message should be generated that update did not take place.Can anyone tell me how that message can be shown in front endmy taught was to bind it using lable control. But how the messages can come from storedproc to front endcan we do it using dataset binding.Is there any other way please lemme know immediately .Thankyousiri
My code behind file builds a select statement and I would like to fill an SqlDataSource control with it. Can some show me an example of how I might do that? Maybe something like this? Me.SqlDataSourceSearchResult.ConnectionString = "ConnectStr" Me.SqlDataSourceSearchResult.SelectCommand = "SelectStatement" gvSearchResult.DataSource = Me.SqlDataSourceSearchResult gvSearchResult.DataBind()
I have a form setup, the code of which is listed below, and I would like to be able to submit the data that is entered in the form to a SQL 2005 standard database via the SqlDataSource control and a button. I'm just having trouble doing so because of the coding. Any help or suggestions would be greata s I've already read through the tutorials on this site and they don't go in depth very much. I use SQLDataSource, bind to a GridView and a SelectParameter that gets it's value from a textbox. If the textbox is empty, then it returns all rows.How do I prevent the query and binding when the page first load? Thanks
I have a sql data source that runs a query that returns a users data (See below). I want to set the session variable "UserID" equal to the tkinit. How do I "bind" the session to a column from this select command? I tried this Session("UserID") = ("tkinit") but that doesn't work. I can hard code a session value, just can't figure out how to "bind" it from the sqldatasource.. <asp:SqlDataSource ID="getUserID" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:xxxConnectionString %>" SelectCommand="SELECT [tkinit], [tklast], [tkfirst], [tkfirst]+' '+[tklast] as fullname FROM [yyy] WHERE ([login] = @login)"><SelectParameters><asp:Parameter Name="login" Type="String" /></SelectParameters></asp:SqlDataSource>

Hi,Just a little question...Is it possible to link a SqlDataSource to a label without using a repeater or a formview?I just want to select one column from a single row in a single table and sending the value to a label.The code would be something like this :<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:MyConnectionString %>" SelectCommand="SELECT name FROM Page WHERE idPage = 1"> <SelectParameters> <asp:Parameter DefaultValue="1" Name="idPage" Type="Int32" /> </SelectParameters> </asp:SqlDataSource> <asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("name") %>'></asp:Label> So, what can I add in the label properties or in the codefile to make this work if it is possible ?Or am I obliged to "hard code" it in c# with an SqlConnection, a SqlCommand and a SqlDataReader ?Thanks in advance...
This is my SQLDataSource for my gridview <asp:SQLDataSource ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:Pubs %>" id="sqlProducts" Runat="Server" SelectCommand=' "Select * from adressen INNER JOIN Adressoort ON adressen.AD_ID = Adressoort.AD_ID where " & lblsql.Text ' ></asp:SQLDataSource> the label is something like : adressoort.AD_soort = '3' or adressoort.AD_soort = '1' I keep on getting the error sever tag not well formed
Hi, I have a sqldatasource which returns the result I want, but I need to assign it to a label or text box. Is there an easy way of doing this? I attempted it using this code: PropertyFriendIDLabel.Text = PropUserIdSqlDataSource Thanks
Greetings all, I am tring to capture the ID of a newly inserted record from a form to a label that I will reference in a reciept page. I intend to pass the rowid to retrieve record information on other pages. The insert suceeds... I just need to capture the auto generated ID for the new row to a label on the page post onclick. I have two database SOP and CRM. Both supports windows authentication and SOP suports sql authentication too. Now i have to write a SP in SOP database with identity impersonation (with superadmin authentication) which will do some work with this impersonated id on SOP database but needs to fetch some values from CRM with the current user account - not impersonated account.Lets clear... I want to show the orders generated by all users and in the display grid there is a column like "IsMyCustomer?" which will show the order is to a customer which i have access. In CRM (MS) if i select from FilteredCustomer view i will get the customersid of those under me. And if i left outer join with FilteredOrder view in SOP (with Super Admin windows credentials) which returns orders by current user i will get the desired result.Now the problem is i can't sent two connection credentials to a SP. So what i want is to connect SOP with user's windows credentials (not with impersonation) and from the SP we will Select data with Admin's account. But i don't know is there any way to connect to a linked server with a different credentials. Like when i am selecting from CRM server it will use different credentials.Remember i am using SQL server 2000 and everything should be done through a single SP.I know i can do this easily with two different select from Data access layer. But i am looking for some performance effectinve way. My PM wants this idea to be implemented. I have no chice guys....
I have a SQL database with 1 column in it.. it is a do not call registry for my office. I want to make a web application so our leads can go on the web and request to be put on the do not call list. problem is, if their number already exists, it gets a violation of primary key... Normal handling for this would be to do a select query based on user input, and if it exists in the database, tell them that, else do the insert query... Problem is, i cant seem to figure out how to bind the result of the select query to a textbox or label so i can compare the results to do that logic. Any ideas? This is in asp .net 2.0. Thanks! -Dan
