Problem When Trying To Deploy A Web Site Built With Asp.net 2.0 And Using SQL EXPRESS

Jun 6, 2006

Hi,

Plz help!

I built a web site using IIS and ASP.NET 2.0.

My web site has a log on screen and I only configured it with one user without any roles. This web site uses the SQL EXPRESS.(I Have 2 databases: 1 for the security required by the application and the other for my application. for the connectionstring I used a windows authentication security with an instance = true.)

Everything went well on my PC.

When I tried to deploy the web site on another PC, there was a big problem.

When I tried to login with the same user I created, then I have a problem.

The password is incorrect(Why? I don't know).

Maybe there is a problem with the IIS or with the SQL SERVER.

pLZ HELP!!

Deploy A Database And ASP.NET Site To GoDaddy.com

Nov 7, 2006

I have a vb.net web page which I created (a shopping cart).  I created this site using vb.net 1.1 and SQL 2000 on my laptop.  On my laptop everything works properly, but when I tried moving it to GoDaddy (http://currahee3-506.org/px/default.aspx).  In the code, each query to the SQL server is done using stored procedures.
When you first go the page, a drop down is presented.  When you select "Shirt" from the category drop down.  A second drop down menu is then displayed and will let you select what type of shirt you are interested in purchasing.  Select Polo Shirt Without Pocket.  Upon doing so, I receive an error message:

Invalid object name 'tbl_LookupCategory'.Invalid object name 'tbl_pxProducts'.Invalid object name 'tbl_LookupColor'.Invalid object name 'tbl_LookupSizes'.Invalid object name 'tbl_pxQtySold'.Invalid object name 'tbl_pxImages'.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Invalid object name 'tbl_LookupCategory'.Invalid object name 'tbl_pxProducts'.Invalid object name 'tbl_LookupColor'.Invalid object name 'tbl_LookupSizes'.Invalid object name 'tbl_pxQtySold'.Invalid object name 'tbl_pxImages'.Source Error:

Line 146:
Line 147: dl_Description.DataSource = dataReader
Source File: d:hostingcurraheepxdefault.aspx    Line: 145
 Keep in mind the Stored Procedure works in my testing environment, but not on GoDaddy.  I moved the selected statement into a view on the GoDaddy SQL server, and the view worked perfectly.  The tables do exist on the GoDaddy SQL Server.
This is the Stored Procedure:
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[sp_GetItemInfo]
@str_ItemName VarChar(50)
AS
SELECT TOP 100 PERCENTtbl_pxProducts.int_ItemID,tbl_pxProducts.str_ItemName,tbl_pxProducts.int_RetailPrice,tbl_pxImages.str_SmallImageURL,tbl_pxImages.str_MediumImageURL,tbl_pxImages.str_MediumImageBackURL,tbl_pxImages.str_LargeImageBackURL,tbl_pxImages.str_LargeImageUrl,tbl_pxImages.str_SmallImageBackURL,tbl_pxProducts.int_Quantity - tbl_pxQtySold.int_QtySold AS int_QtyAvailable,tbl_LookupCategory.str_Category,tbl_pxProducts.Int_SizeID,tbl_LookupSizes.str_Size,tbl_pxProducts.Int_ColorID,tbl_LookupColor.str_Color

ORDER BYtbl_LookupSizes.str_Size
Does anybody have any suggestions as to why this stored procedure is failing?

Built-in Data Types In SQL Express: Best Practices?

Jul 21, 2006

Greetings,

I think these should be rather simple questions, yet I spent a number of hours last night digging through the forums here and msdn and couldn't find any satisfactory answers. Basically, there tend to be types of information that are commonly saved in most databases, like names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, etc...and there are a variety of built in data types in SQL Server. What are the best built in datatypes for some of the common entries in a sql database. Also, there are a number of character based types and I am curious why one would be more useful in certain situations than another. Why is there char( ), nchar( ), varchar( ), nvarchar( ) and text datatypes? Why so many? Also, what is the "text" datatype and when is it most likely to be used? There is very little about the text type that I can find in the msdn or SQL Server docs...aside from the fact that it's text. On top of all this, there's numerous binary types as well. I'm really not getting the reason behind all these different basic types and why I would want to use one over the other in any specific instance.

TIA,

Mark

Unattended (Silent) Install SQL Server Express How Do I Specify A The Built In System Account???

Aug 15, 2006

When doing a unattended install of Microsoft SQL Server Express, I have a problem specifing the service to installed to be run under the as local system account.

I'm using: SQLACCOUNT & SQLPASSWORD parameters but it just won't work.

As default SQL Server is installed using the NETWORK SERVICE account, this causes the database to be read-only. What I want is to specifiy in the script that the service should run under the LOCAL SYSTEM account instead. This must also be OS-language independent.

I've tried:

SQLACCOUNT=NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM
SQLACCOUNT=NT AUTHORITYLOCAL SYSTEM
SQLACCOUNT=NT AUTHORITYLOCAL SERVICE
SQLACCOUNT=SYSTEM

SQLACCOUNT=BUILT-INSYSTEM

etc.

and even some different SID as:

S-1-5-18
S-1-5-19

All with no password with the SQLPASSWORD parameter:

SQLPASSWORD=

I still getting the same error while validating the service account.

Is there someone else who knows what I'm doing wrong?

Best regards,

Mattias

Built Database With SQL Server Management Studio Express, How Can I Quikly Add Test Data?

Apr 13, 2006

I've built my SQL Server Express database with SQL Serevr Management Studio Express, and now I want to enter some seed data to assist in building tha app around it. I cannot find an option to manage the data in SQL SMSX, like I used to with Enterprise Manager.
I don't want to have to write an app just to get test data in. Seems like this should be a common need. Am I missing something obvious here? Can't find any reference to this in a search of the forums.

Multi Site Using SQL Express 2005

Oct 21, 2006

Hi,
I am writing Stock inventory and POS application.
POS will be used at multiple branches to collect sales, whereby Stock Inventory will be used in HQ for product info maintenance, stock in and etc.

I need to send all of the branch sales records back to HQ and send updated product info such as cost to branches everyday (could be multiple times per day).

I am thinking to use SQL Server Express 2005 at branches and SQL Server 2005 standard at HQ.

Do you think it is workable? What is the mechanism I can use to "transfer" these data?

Please advice.

Thank you

SQL Express Database In Published Web Site

Mar 26, 2007

I have been working with Visual Studio 2005 and the Personal Web Site Starter Kit. All is well and working. My problem is that after the database is updated (as in uploading photos and album creation) and the original web site is edited and republished, the web site database is overwritten and all the work is lost. What is the proceedure to either copy the web database to the development site on my computer so updates will not be lost, or a method of publishing that will not loose the up to date content on the web server? I would much prefer to be able to copy the database to my development computer as adding tables to the database is something that needs to be done. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Thanks

Deploy SQL Server Express

Mar 19, 2007

Problem: (asp.net 2.0)I x-copy from my development server a database named C:site_testsite.mdf to C:site.  When I attach the database with Server Management Studio Express, it list the name as: "C:site_testsite.mdf" eventhough on the live server the database is in the C:site directory and my connection string in my web.config is "C:sitesite.mdf".  But everything works until a week later when I need to make a field change to a table on the live site: I'm forced to re-attach the database, but this time it list the database as:C:sitesite.mdf".  When I re-attach I get a NT AUTHORITYSERVICE does not have permission.  So I give  NT AUTHORITYSERVICE permission on the directory and files and ownership with Server Management Stuidio Express, but I still get the error.What am I'm doing wrong? Thanks for the help--Dietrich

How Can I Deploy SQL Server Express ?

Jan 25, 2006

I am using a login control ( using SQL express) for my application. Everthing works fine in my local machine, but after I deploy the application to the production server, I am getting an error says: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) I think it's becasue the SQL Express database which has the user login information has been set up correctly in the production server: Here is my connection string for SQL Express in my local box <add name="SQLExpress" connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|ASPNETDB.MDF;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/> Any ideas what I should do to solve this issue

What's The Best Way To Deploy CLR Extensions To SQL Express?

Jul 5, 2006

The project I'm working on has been developed using SQL 2005 Developer Edition and VS 2005, so up until now VS has been handling the task of deploying my C# managed code stored procedures to the database.

Now it's time to deploy a beta of the product, and we want to use SQL 2005 Express, and take advantage of it's new XCOPY deployment mode which in turn means we can also take full advantage of Click Once for our software updates. The idea here is that we can deploy new or updated stored procedures in a managed DLL using Click Once, making updates presumably more simple and robust.

So the steps we need to complete at runtime are:

1. Dynamically load and access the database MDF file using SQL Express (done).

2. Enable CLR Integration for the dynamically loaded DB (done)

3. Instantiate all of the stored procedures - help!

Looking at the docs, it seems we have to execute the following SQL for each and every SP:

CREATE PROCEDURE <Procedure Name>

@inputArg2 type, @inputArg2 type, @inputArg3 type OUTPUT

AS EXTERNAL NAME <Assembly Identifier>.<Type Name>.<Method Name>

But, we're talking about literally hundreds of stored procedures that need to be instantiated here, which obviously means a lot of double-definitions and a fairly high chance of bugs creeping in.

Surely there has to be a better way?

Deploy Sql Server Express To ISP

I can connect to the ISP database with Sql Server Mangement Studio Express. That connection requires a password.

When I try to execute 'restore', I get an error for no permission.

Any ideas why I have no permission after a password has already been entered?

I sure appreciate any help.

Express 2005: How To Makes Changes Without Stopping The Web Site?

Jan 24, 2008

 Are there any way I can make changes to my database without stopping the web site? I'm using SQL Server 2005 Express for my web shop. And each time I have to add or change a table or Stored Procedure I have to stop the site. What I do is to stop the web site (in IIS), restart the IIS and then open the database in the SQL Server 2005 Express Management tool. If I don't "release" the file first I get an error when I try to open the database file in the Management tool.But there must be a better way to do things? I also would like to take bacup of the database without stopping the site, but how? There must be others that have had the same problems? Regards, Sigurd

Is It That Hard To Deploy SQL Server Express?

Could not open new database 'Database'. CREATE DATABASE is aborted.Could

as database 'Database'.File activation failure. The physical file
name "D:-- Work Documents --WorkezabcWebSite3App_DataDatabase_log.LDF" may be incorrect.The log cannot be rebuilt when the primary file is read-only.Next i have no idea why it's pointing back to my location directory hence that could be the issue but i'll leave it to you experts for your valueable input.It's uploaded onto a web server running ASP 2.0 and MS SQL Server 2005 i thinkFeel free to ask if you need additional informationThanks for reading!

How Hard It Is To Develop On Express And Deploy On 2000?

Jun 2, 2006

Hey everyone,First off, sorry if this has been asked and answered before--I've tried searching the forums but may have just not used the right criteria.  Anyways, I'm new to .net and all that stuff, and I was wondering if there were any differences (code-wise) between developing on 2005 Express and running on SQL 2000.  I know there would be variations in the connection string, but I wasn't sure about anything else--specifically if they both use the sql provider thingy (I forget the name of it, since I don't have my book in front of me).  I don't expect there to be many differences, but I wanted to check before I got too deep into coding.Thanks in advance.
