Hi,
I am trying to create a XML out of sql 2005 database using FOR XML. I
need to create XML for tables which may contain data having
non-printable ascii characters (1-32 ascii character). I found FOR XML
AUTO failes to genrate this XML, but i can genrate XML using CDATA
section in FOR XML EXPLICIT. As following querie works fine for me.
SELECT
1 AS tag
NULL AS parent,
template_id AS [Emailqueue!1!user_id],
misc1 AS [Emailqueue!1!!cdata]
FROM Emailqueue WITH (NOLOCK)
WHERE queue_id = -2147483169
FOR XML EXPLICIT
in above query misc1 column may contain some non printable ascii
characters.
But i need to store this XML data in some sql XML variable as i need to
pass it to store procedure which expects an xml input. While doing
following i gets an error saying "illegal xml character"
DECLARE @XMLMessage XML
SET @XMLMessage = (SELECT
1 AS tag
NULL AS parent,
template_id AS [Emailqueue!1!user_id],
misc1 AS [Emailqueue!1!!cdata]
FROM Emailqueue WITH (NOLOCK)
WHERE queue_id = -2147483169
FOR XML EXPLICIT)
I am doing all this exercise for SQL service broker. For which i even
need to process same message using OPENXML on differen database server.
Again which will need well formated XML.
I know that anything in a CDATA section will be ignored by an XML parser. Does that hold true for the SSIS XML Source?
I am trying to import a large quantity of movie information and all of the reviews, synopsis, etc are contained in CDATA. example:
<synopsis size="100"><![CDATA[Four vignettes feature thugs in a pool hall, a tormented ex-con, a cop and a gangster.]]></synopsis>
Sounds like a good one, no?
The record gets inserted into the database however it contains a NULL in the field for the synopsis text. I would imagine that the reason for this would fall at the feet of CDATA's nature and that SSIS is ignoring it.
I'm using some xslt documents to transform the xml output of my Reports but have come across two curiosities where the xslt filter seems to behave unusually.
Firstly, I need the final saved file to have an xml declaration, which I believe it should do by default. Even if I put omit-xml-declaration="no" in the xsl:output tag I don't get an xml declaration. At present we have a custom job that writes these declarations back into the xml after SRS has saved it.
Secondly and more importantly, I need to have some of my output tags wrapped in CDATA sections. I've tried using the cdata-section-elements attribute, again with no luck.
my XSLT looks something like this (simplified for space)
How can I take this example Flat file and parse out each section to a new flat file? Each section starts with HD (header row)
http://www.webfound.net/flat_file_example.txt
e.g. an example output file based on above (cutting out the first section) would be:
http://www.webfound.net/flatfile_output.txt
Also, I'll need to grab a certain value in each header row (certain position in the 100 byte header row) to use that as part of the filename that's outputed. I assume it would be better to insert these rows into a temp table then somehow do a search on a specific position in the row...but that's impossible? The other route is to insert each row into a temp table separated out by fields but that is going to be too combursome because we have several formats to determine separation of fields based on the row type so I'd have to create many temp tables and many components in SSIS when all we want to do is again:
1) output each group (broken by each header row) into it's own txt file
2) use a field in the header row as part of the name of the output txt file (e.g. look at the first row, whcih is a header row in flat_file_example. txt. I want to grab the text 'AR10' and use that as part of the filename that I create
Any suggestions on how to approach this whole process in SSIS...the simplest approach that will work ?
We have stored some special characters in our database and when we extract as XML Auto, Elements it through error illegal characters during import. I am looking and saw CDATA with Explicit option but don't know how to use it with multi tags like:
I am using SQL Server to return a XML result set. I then perform a XSLT transformation on the returned result set to fill in HTML form text and select elements. The data returned includes the & character. This character correctly transforms, however I believe that the & is negatively impacting my form post (one of the form elements disappears from the posted data). How can I get around this?
I have tried both in sql server 2000 and sql server 2005 the following code:
DECLARE @DOC VARCHAR(100) DECLARE @HDOC INT SET @Doc='<datos><texto><![CDATA[línea átona]]></texto></datos>' EXEC sp_xml_preparedocument @HDOC OUTPUT, @DOC SELECT * FROM OPENXML(@HDOC,'datos',2) WITH (texto nvarchar(50))
I always get an error 6603 in SQL2000 and 6602+8179 in SQL2005, wich means it can't parse the 'í' and 'á' characters, though they are in a CDATA. I have tried with <,>,@ characters and it works fine.
I have also tried using 'á' and 'í' without CDATA but I get the same message:
DECLARE @DOC VARCHAR(100) DECLARE @HDOC INT SET @Doc='<datos><texto><línea átona></texto></datos>' EXEC sp_xml_preparedocument @HDOC OUTPUT, @DOC SELECT * FROM OPENXML(@HDOC,'datos',2) WITH (texto nvarchar(50))
I'm trying to build a DTSX package that FTP's an XML file to the local file system and then imports it into an existing table.
My "Data Flow" for the package starts with an XML Source component and then goes to Data Conversion component and then to an OLE DB Destination component.
It all executes with out error and seems to work fine, but when I look at the data in the table after I've run the package it seems to have inserted the appropriate number of rows from the XML file but all of the column values are NULL.
All of the data in the XML file is surrounded by <![CDATA[ ]]> and I discovered that if I remove the CDATA wrapper by hand then it inserts the data properly. The only problem is that I'm not in a position to have the data provider remove the CDATA tags and some of the data in the XML file needs the CDATA wrapper or else it will not validate.
Anyone know of anything I can do to get the CDATA to import properly?
I need to keep a section of a report the same size. I have now a table with a detail and group section. The table header must print on every page and the table footer must print on every page. The detail section can only be 16 rows. When I have more than 16 rows the report page breaks perfectly and puts the remaining rows on the next page along with repeating the header and footer. The problem is when there are fewer than 16 rows the table does not take up the full page and looks horrible. All my displayed data is in the data set. I have looked at padding the dataset with bogus rows that would show up at the end and just not display but would rather take care of this on the report end. Any ideas? Thanks, Chad
I was wondering if anyone has figured out a way to add text up in the parameter section of a report. I wanted to add something like: "Please use this option when you want a full result set" or something of the sort.
Ok-I'm new at this, but just found out that to get data off a form and insert into SQL I can scrape it off the form and insert it in the <insertParameter> section by using <asp:ControlParameter Name="text2" Type="String" ControlID="TextBox2" PropertyName="Text"> (Thanks CSharpSean) Now I ALSO need to set the user name in the same insert statement. I put in a UserName control that is populated when a signed in user shows up on the page. But in my code I've tried: <asp:ControlParameter Name="UserName" Type="String" ControlID="LoginName1" DefaultValue="Daniel" PropertyName="Text"/> and I get teh errorDataBinding: 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.LoginName' does not contain a property with the name 'Text'. So I take PropertyName="Text" out, and get the error:PropertyName must be set to a valid property name of the control named 'LoginName1' in ControlParameter 'UserName'. what is the proper property value? SO.....BIG question...Is there a clean way to pass UserName to the insert parameters? Or ANY value for that matter? Id like to know how to write somehting likeString s_test = "test string";then in the updateparameter part of the sqldatasource pass SOMEHITNG like (in bold) <asp:Parameter Name="UserName" Type="String" Value=s_test /> Thanks in advance...again! Dan
I am trying to add an Imports statement to the beggining of the custome code section of my report but I recieve this error. There is an error on line 0 of custom code: [BC30465] 'Imports' statements must precede any declarations.
I wonder is there any way I can turn off the "Documentation Feedback" sectionof the Books Online at the bottom of the pages... I'm printing some BooksOnline pages for own reference. Thanks in advance...--Message posted via SQLMonster.comhttp://www.sqlmonster.com/Uwe/Forum...eneral/200706/1
I'm trying to embed a report into a CRM IFrame. So I have the report created in Business Intelligence Visual Studio 2005, but I need to display it with none of the header details SRS displays by default.
Using the following URL I included rc:toolbar=false and rcarameters=false but they don't seem to make any difference. I basically need to display the report content as if it were part of that page and not an SRS hosted page.
Can anyone tell me is it possible to put static data (a string) inside details section of a table? I've tried to find some more pieces of information in the Report Definition Language Specification, but to no avail.
When I put some strings as a detail's cells values they are displayed in the preview window in VS. But thay are invisible when I open my report using ReportViewer in my app. So does it means that the only accepted value of a cell within the details section of a table is a name of the field from DataSet (something like =Fields!FieldName.Value) ?

i wand to filter the report based on the country as Canada and france by Using Filter but Not with Parameter..Similarly How to use Not In Operator also.
I have a wide report. The leftmost two columns have the FixedHeader property set true so they remain visible when I do horizontal scrolling. My problem is that the height of the 1st two rows in the fixed header section increases as soon as I scroll the report to the right. The height of the 1st two rows in the fixed header section roughly doubles while the height of the scrollable section remains the same. The upshot is that the fixed part of the report is misaligned with the scrollable part (because the rows in the two sections don't have the same height). Only the 1st two rows in the fixed header grow taller - the other rows in the fixed header retain their original height.
Has anyone seen this problem or have an idea what is happening?
Thanks, BCB
This is the style that is generated for one of the fixed header columns:
I'm using VS 2005 to build a SQL Server reporting Services report. The wizard works great and prompts me to build my results query and then select fields to group the report by.
I'm using the 3 groups as follows:
Page: Product / Model name Group: Serial No Details: Orders
Here's the problem. I also want to show my order lines as there is another linked table connected to my order table which holds all order line items. Classic order - line example.
How can I modify the details section to show my line items, as well as not show empty rows when no line items exist?
I wrote a report in Visual Studio with some parameters that I gave default values to in the report definition. I deployed it out to the report server and when I look at the report Properties, Parameters section to see the default values. Instead of seeing all of the default values, I see a bunch of "Override Default" buttons. When you click the buttons, you get a blank text box in which to enter a new value.
Someone before me created a report with default values and the parameters section of that report has text boxes with the default values in them.
Does anyone know how to have the default values show up rather than those "Override Default" buttons?
I am trying to access HttpContext.Current in my report code section (report properties) since I have to look at a cookie. However, HttpContext.Current is always null. Has anyone managed to access HttpContex.Current from a report?
I installed Reporting Services Add-in for Sharepoint 2007, on my Server where i have both Sharepoint 2007 and SQL Server 2005 and report Server are installed, i already installed SQL Server SP2, but in SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration under Application Management Reporting Services section is not Showing.
Please let me know if anybody has the got the same issue and fix it.
i have a situation, where i need to group my information by a certainid, but that information which should already be grouped, i need toorder based on a number in one of the columnsexample:<ex id=2 listorder=1><description>desc 2</description></ex><ex id=1 listorder=2><description>desc 1</description></ex>in my order clause i first put order by the id, and it will group theinformation accordingly, but will put the lowest number id first, notcaring about the listorderbut if i order by the listorder column first, the information isn'tgroupd properlyi don't know if i made myself clear enough?hope someboyd can help methnx in advance
ASP.net 2.0 (VB), SQL Server 2005:While creating a new TableAdapter in design section, I'm using the query builder and trying to write a query within "LIKE" statement as below -Example1: SELECT * FROM table WHERE field LIKE @'%TextBoxData%'Example2: SELECT * FROM table WHERE field LIKE '%@TextBoxData%' but these query doesn't work...error in building query...any clue to make it work? If I remove "@" sure the query will work with normal but '%TextBoxData%' will become a hardcoding value...this is not I want...I want make the TextBoxData become a flexible value depend on the data what I enter in my text box like 'abc,123' not like 'TextBoxData'... I know normally it supposed to be like: "SELECT * FROM table WHERE field LIKE '%" & TextBoxData.Text & "%'" It can work when in Code Section, but not at this time...because now i'm trying to made it with "Query Builder" for TableAdapter " in Design Section...hmm did you get what I mean? Sorry for my bad english Thanks in advance
I have a requirement of logging the failure and the error of a job executing a SSIS package to text file. However, when I go to job step -> Advanced, in the section "SQL Server Integration Services Package" where that info to setup logging is, it is blank and just says:
"There are no options for this command type"
Any ideas?
I thought that this might not be supported in Standard Edition as I am running standard edition. Then I checked on two other servers, where I have Enterprise edition with SP2. On one of the installations, I am able to give the log file, the other one still shows,
"There are no options for this command type"
What is the problem? Both of them I am using the sysadmin role account. I have proxy account created on both the SQL instances. I don't think this is the problem, but still I checked this.
I don't know MS-SQLserver internal system at all. I 've just used Oracle a couple years ago and so in some cases (e.g using TP-monitor MTS or Tuxedo) you can switch off the implicit transaction by using the option AUTOCOMMIT ON/OFF.
How can switch off the implicit transaction system on MS-SQLServer ?
I created a SELECT statement that uses the FOR XML EXPLICIT clause so that SQL Server data can be exported to another system. Format thios system accepts is XML. What should I define within a DTS package so that this Select statement is executed and an XML file is created?
I have an cursor that loops 720 times. Each FETCH does 6 INSERTS. Each FETCH the 6 INSERTs a total of 200-300 records appended.
Would explicit transactions speed up the cursor?
In Oracle, I would keep track of how many times I've looped, and commit every nth time. I would put a catch remainder COMMIT at the end of the procedure.
I've got the IF @@TRANCOUNT > 19 COMMIT TRAN (about 6k records), but say I had <= 19 remaining at the end of the cursor, how do you get those to commit? I tried to put an IF @@TRANCOUNT > 1 COMMIT TRAN, but that didn't work.
What's a good @@TRANCOUNT to commit at in this case?
