Problem With DataSource Gridview And Bulleted List

May 9, 2008

 protected void BulletedList1_Click(object sender, BulletedListEventArgs e)
{
TabContainer1.Visible = true;
pnlClientChosen.Visible = true;
pnlNewClient.Visible = false;
ListItem li = BulletedList1.Items[e.Index];

} I have a bulleted list tied to a table, and on click the selectedValue of the bulleted list populates a datagrid.  Heres my code:

 <asp:BulletedList ID="BulletedList1" runat="server" BulletStyle="Disc" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1"
DataTextField="LNAME" DataValueField="DEM_ID" DisplayMode="LinkButton" OnClick="BulletedList1_Click">
</asp:BulletedList>
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:csAHECData %>"
SelectCommand="SELECT [LNAME], [FNAME], [MNAME], [DEM_ID] FROM [Demog_TOB] ORDER BY [LNAME], [FNAME], [MNAME]">
</asp:SqlDataSource>

 And then for the datagrid:

  <asp:Panel ID="pnlClientChosen" runat="server">
<asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource2">
</asp:GridView>
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource2" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:csAHECData %>"
SelectCommand="SELECT [DEM_ID], [LNAME], [FNAME], [MNAME], [ADDR1], [ADDR2], [CITY], [STATE], [ZIPCODE], [COUNTY], [Gender] FROM [Demog_TOB] WHERE ([DEM_ID] = @DEM_ID)">
<SelectParameters>
<asp:ControlParameter ControlID="BulletedList1" Name="DEM_ID" PropertyName="SelectedValue"
Type="Int64" />
</SelectParameters>
</asp:SqlDataSource>
</asp:Panel>

On Bulleted list select I have this code:

 protected void BulletedList1_Click(object sender, BulletedListEventArgs e)
{
TabContainer1.Visible = true;
pnlClientChosen.Visible = true;
ListItem li = BulletedList1.Items[e.Index];

}

 I have no idea whats wrong but when I click on the bulleted list , the pnlClientChosen becomes visible (which contains the data gridview); but there is no gridview available.  There isn't even column names.  One thing that struck me as odd is when I created the datasource and I created the Where statement, when I selected control as ""Where Dem_ID = a control" and I set the control to bulletedlist1, there were three listings for bulletedlist1.  In fact, there were three listings for each control on this page.

Thanks in advance, I hope I explained this well but I'm in a hurry right now.

Getting A Row Count From A DataSource Vs GridView

Feb 5, 2007

There HAS to be an easier way to do this...
I have 2 seperate SqlDataSources for 2 distinct filters. How do I get a simple row count for each SqlDataSource? It seems the only way is by using the ObjectDataSource and going through that whole mess (paging, etc.). And unfortunately, you can't simply get the number of rows in the GridView that represents each DataSource if AllowPaging is true for the GridView.
This is frustrating.

GridView With Ascending Drop Down List

Apr 16, 2008

Currently I have a small page that includes a drop down list with about 120 possible choices to chose from.
The list works fine, however, the choices are not sorted ascending/alphabetical order. So it is very slow searching for

Add OLE DB Driver To Datasource List

Jan 29, 2008

Hello all,

I upgraded my DB2 client from v8 (32 bit) to v9 (64 bit) and the IBM OLE DB DB2 Driver is not showing up in the data source list in Import and Export Wizard. I need to use the IBM OLE DB Driver because the Microsoft driver doesn't work (db2 login).

Can anyone tell me how to add the IBM OLE DB Driver into the list. Is is a PATH/CLASSPATH issue??

Thanks

'unable To Obtain A List Of Tables From The Datasource' Error From Excel

Oct 12, 2007

Hi,
This is a very detailed question, I hope this is the best forum to address it. It is more related to general ODBC access, and less to SQL Server data access.

Calling all ODBC experts!

I am a developer using an ODBC toolkit to connect to my companies metadata management product, which in turn communicates to SQL Server, Oracle, DB2 and other databases. The ODBC toolkit we are using is very old, and has been very stable in accessing data with clients such as Access, Excel, Visio and others. It is a read-only ODBC driver that does not support a lot of advanced query and data manipulation features, such as catalog.

I'm using Visual Studio 2005 to debug the ODBC calls that Excel is making when attempting to load data through the External Data Wizard. The Excel version I am using is 2003. The method that I am using to attempt to load data is with 'Data | Import External Data | Import Data'. When that dialog appears, I select 'New Source...' then 'ODBC DSN'. I then select my DSN and click Next.

At this point, I get back the error 'unable to obtain a list of tables from the datasource'.

What is frustrating is, if I do 'Data | New Database Query' and use MSQuery to load the data, everything works fine.

As I mentioned I am using VC2005 and debugging, I believe the problem has to do with the capabilities of our driver and the columns that Excel is binding to return data. In this call, Excel is binding two columns - Table Qualifer (

TABLE_QUALIFIER (1)) and Remarks (TABLE_REMARKS(5)). Our driver does not support qualifiers, so we return a NULL for that value:

case TABLE_QUALIFIER:

fSqlTypeIn = SQL_CHAR;

rgbValueIn = NULL;

cbValueIn = SQL_NULL_DATA;

Excel makes the SQLTables() call, which successfully returns the entire list of tables from our server product. It then attempts to SQLBind the two columns I mentioned above. The first call to SQLFetch returns with SQL_SUCCESS but the ODBCGetData call fills the QUALFIER column with a NULL. So obviously, Excel doesn't like this value and then ends up quiting and displaying the message above (I think....) This is confirmed by looking at the ODBC trace calls:

EXCEL 1500-1b18 ENTER SQLTablesW
HSTMT 01F120E0

SQLINTEGER * 0x00134F0C
SQLWCHAR * 0x00134F1C (NYI)
SQLSMALLINT 512
SQLSMALLINT * 0x00134F04

So I began to examine the GetInfo calls. There are probably 100 or so that Excel makes. Anything related to qualifiers or cataloging seems to indicate (according to MSDN) that we do not support it. So my thinking was, if Excel properly identifies that we don't support qualifers, why does it attempt to bind the column? Is this a flaw in Excel, or are there some other GetInfo properties that I am not properly setting?

The attributes I am setting (that seem related) are:

SQL_QUALIFIER_LOCATION = 0
SQL_QUALIFIER_USAGE = 0
SQL_QUALIFER_TERM = ""
SQL_CATALOG_LOCATION = 0
SQL_CATALOG_NAME = "N"
SQL_CATALOG_TERM=""
SQL_CATALOG_USAGE=0

Looking at ODBC trace logs, the only GetInfo values that Excel is quering is SQL_QUALIFIER_LOCATION, SQL_QUALIFIER_TERM and SQL_QUALIFIER_USAGE. According to the MSDN documentation, an application is supposed to query SQL_CATALOG_NAME to determine if catalogs are supported. I know it is not, because I don't see it in the ODBC trace log, or my breakpoints in VC2005 are never hit.

I realize this is a HUGE question. I hope that I came across clear and that my question is understandable. I guess what it comes down to is - (maybe some Excel engineers can answer this one) - is this method of loading data into Excel require a Table Qualifier? If not, how can I configure my settings so that it asks for Table Name (as MsQuery does) instead?

Thank you so much for your time and consideration!

Use Business Objects (generic List Object) As Datasource To Generate A Report??

Apr 2, 2008

I was wondering if it is possible to use a generic list object to use as the datasource/data for a report? Right now we use these business objects to display information on our website and would be great it we could re-use those objects and create reports based on them. We are doing some calculations etc in the business layer to build these objects, so if we could re-use, that would be best.
Thanks!

OLAP Datasource: Second Parameter List To Be Filtered Based On The First Parameter

Apr 17, 2008

Does anyone know if this is possible right out of the box in SSRS 2005 against an OLAP data source?

I have several parameters. My second parameter is to be filtered based on the first parameter (kinda like cascading), but how do I do this against an OLAP data source? Lets say I have param1 and param2 in a dataset. I want Param2 to show the locations only based on what I select in Param1.
Same but a little different: I have Parameter1 and then my second parameter (Param2) is a boolean (True/False). I want to show Parameter 3/Paramater 4 based on selection of Param2 (So, if true, show Param3, if false, show Param 4) and remember we are doing this in a sequence.
Can you do this thru SSRS? Any help would be great.
Thanks for your time in advance.

Want Error Message To Appear When No Database Results Were Returned In GridView, Also Other GridView Issues.

Jun 12, 2008

Hi, I am seeking a hopefully easy solution to spit back an error message when a user receives no results from a SQL server db with no results. My code looks like this What is in bold is the relevant subroutine for this problem I'm having.   Partial Class collegedb_Default Inherits System.Web.UI.Page Protected Sub submit_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles submit.Click SqlDataSource1.SelectCommand = "SELECT * FROM [college_db] WHERE [name] like '%" & textbox1.Text & "%'" SqlDataSource1.DataBind() If (SqlDataSource1 = System.DBNull) Then no_match.Text = "Your search returned no results, try looking manually." End If End Sub Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load SqlDataSource1.SelectCommand = "SELECT * FROM [college_db] ORDER BY [name]" SqlDataSource1.DataBind() End Sub Protected Sub reset_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles reset.Click SqlDataSource1.SelectCommand = "SELECT * FROM [college_db] ORDER BY [name]" SqlDataSource1.DataBind() End SubEnd Class  I'm probably doing this completely wrong, I'm a .net newb. Any help would be appreciated. Basically I have GridView spitting out info from a db upon Page Load, but i also have a search bar above that. The search function works, but when it returns nothing, I want an error message to be displayed. I have a label setup called "no_match" but I'm getting compiler errors. Also, next to the submit button, I also have another button (Protected sub reset) that I was hoping to be able to return all results back on the page, similar to if a user is just loading the page fresh. I'd think that my logic would be OK, by just repeating the source code from page_load, but that doens't work.The button just does nothing. One final question, unrelated. After I set this default.aspx page up, sorting by number on the bottom of gridview, ie. 1,2,3,4, etc, worked fine. But now that paging feature, as long with the sorting headers, don't work! I do notice on the status bar in the browser, that I receive an error that says, "error on page...and it referers to javascript:_doPostBack('GridView1, etc etc)...I have no clue why this happened. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

SQL 2012 :: List All Different Values That Go With Single CAS ID To Appear As Comma Separate List

Jun 15, 2015

So at the moment, I don't have a function by the name CONCATENATE. What I like to do is to list all those different values that go with a single CASE_ID to appear as a a comma separate list. You might have a better way of doing without even writing a function

So the output would look like :

CASE_ID VARIABLE
=====================
1 [ABC],[HDR],[GHHHHH]
2 [ABCSS],[CCHDR],[XXGHHVVVHHH],[KKKJU],[KLK]

SELECT
preop.Case_ID,
dbo.Concatenate( '[' + CAST(preop.value_text AS VARCHAR) + ']' ) as variable
FROM
dbo.TBL_Preop preop
WHERE
preop.Deleted_CD = 0

GROUP BY
preop.Case_ID

Report Designer: Need To List Fields From Multiple Result Rows As Comma Seperated List (like A JOIN On Parameters)

Apr 9, 2008

I know I can do a JOIN(parameter, "some seperator") and it will build me a list/string of all the values in the multiselect parameter.

However, I want to do the same thing with all the occurances of a field in my result set (each row being an occurance).

For example say I have a form that is being printed which will pull in all the medications a patient is currently listed as having perscriptions for. I want to return all those values (say 8) and display them on a single line (or wrap onto additional lines as needed).

Something like:
List of current perscriptions: Allegra, Allegra-D, Clariton, Nasalcort, Sudafed, Zantac

How can I accomplish this?

I was playing with the list box, but that only lets me repeat on a new line, I couldn't find any way to get it to repeate side by side (repeat left to right instead of top to bottom). I played with the orientation options, but that really just lets me adjust how multiple columns are displayed as best I can tell.

Could a custom function of some sort be written to take all the values and spit them out one by one into a comma seperated string?

Items In List A That Don't Appear In List B (was Simple Query...I Think)

Jan 20, 2005

Ok, I want to write a stored procedure / query that says the following:
Code:
If any of the items in list 'A' also appear in list 'B' --return false
If none of the items in list 'A' appear in list 'B' --return true

In pseudo-SQL, I want to write a clause like this

Code:

IF
(SELECT values FROM tableA) IN(SELECT values FROM tableB)
Return False
ELSE
Return True

Unfortunately, it seems I can't do that unless my subquery before the 'IN' statement returns only one value. Needless to say, it returns a number of values.

I may have to achieve this with some kind of logical loop but I don't know how to do that.

Can anyone help?

Insert Only New Items From A List But Get ID's For New And Existing In The List.

Feb 12, 2008

Hi,

I have a a table that holds a list of words, I am trying to add to the list, however I only want to add new words. But I wish to return from my proc the list of words with ID, whether it is new or old.

Here's a script. the creates the table,indexes, function and the storeproc. call the proc like procStoreAndUpdateTokenList 'word1,word2,word3'

My table is now 500000 rows and growing and I am inserting on average 300 words, some new some old.

performance is a not that great so I'm thinking that my code can be improved.

ERROR: A Variable May Only Be Added Once To Either The Read Lock List Or The Write Lock List.

May 22, 2006

Hi,
I have set of 2 DTS packages, one of which calls the other by forming a command-line (dtexec) using a Execute Process task.

From the parent package-> Execute Process Task->
dtsexec /F etc... /<pkg variable> = "servername"

Each of the parent and the called package have a variable: "User::DWServerSQLInstance" which is mapped to the SQL server connection manager server name property using an expression. The outer package has the above variable and so does the inner called package (which gets assigned through the command line from the outerpackage call to inner)

I "sometimes" get the following error:

OnError,I4,TESTDOMAdministrator,ACDWAggregation,{A1F8E43F-15F1-4685-8C18-6866AB31E62B},{77B2F3C7-6756-46EB-8C01-D880598FB4B3},5/22/2006 5:10:28 PM,5/22/2006 5:10:28 PM,-1073659822,0x,The variable "User::DWServerSQLInstance" is already on the read list. A variable may only be added once to either the read lock list or the write lock list.

Help would be appreciated!

I have seen other posts on this but, not able to relate the solution to my scenario.

Gridview

Apr 17, 2008

Hi
I have a business search box and gridview pair. When the user enters a business name, the search results are displayed. I also generate a "more information" link which takes the user to a new page, passing the business name ("memberId")to this page (see the template field below).
The problem I have is if the name contains a QUOTE (') or other special characters. The "memberId" is chopped off at the quote (e.g. "Harry's Store" is passed as "Harry").
Can anyone tell me a way around this please? Is there anything I can do with the Eval method?
Kind regards,
Garrett

<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="More Info">
<ItemTemplate>
<a href='member_page.aspx?memberId=<%# Eval("co_name") %>'>more</a>
</ItemTemplate>

Gridview Sorting

Aug 17, 2006

I have a gridview that has AllowSorting="true" however I need to implement my own sorting because I have DateTime and Integer data types in several of the columns and I don't want an int column sorted like 1,12,2,23,3,34,4,45,5,56, etc.  So, I've added SortParameterName="sortBy" and adjusted my stored procedure to accept this.  For only ASC sorting, I've got
ORDER BY  CASE WHEN @sortBy='' THEN DateCreated END,  CASE WHEN @sortBy='DateCreated' THEN DateCreated END
and so on.  However, columns can also be sorted with DESC.  I tried CASE WHEN @sortBy='DateCreated DESC' THEN DateCreated DESC END, but I get a syntax error on DESC.  How can I do this?

Gridview And DropDownList

Oct 18, 2006

Hello:I have add a DropDownList to my GridView and binded the dropdownlist to a field from a select statement in the SQLDataSource. I have EnabledEditing for my GridView. The GridView is populated with information from the select statement. Some of the information returned from the select statement is null. The field where the dropdownlist is binded it is null in some cases and does not have a value that is in the dropdownlist so I get and error when I attempt to do an update. 'DropDownList1' has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items.Parameter name: value Is there a way to get around this besides initializing all the columns in the table that are going to be binded to a dropdownlist to a value in the dropdownlist?

Gridview Sql Timeout

Dec 3, 2007

I have a simple gridview displaying data from an MSSQL server 2005. Every now and then I get a sql timeout error. Listed below. Can anyone explain why I am getting this error?  The connection pool is 100 and the timeout is set to 360.  I have checked to current connections in SQL and they never max over 23.  There are not locks in SQL when the problem occurs. The query is a stored procedure in sql and when sent sample data it normally takes about 5 seconds.

Help!!! Gridview Binding

Mar 20, 2008

Hey guys, Am in need of help please, basically the program im working with at the moment is when you add a New Contract, it will grab the Contract Number you have entered, Post it over to another page, then using that number bind a Gridview. The SQL being "SELECT Contract_ID, Contract_Number, Start_Date, End_Date, Quarterly_Rent FROM ECS_Contracts_Test WHERE Contract_Number = " & conNoVar (this being the Contract Number of the recently added Contract), however then it comes to Bind the Grid it kicks up an System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Syntax error converting the nvarchar value
'2009P7899' to a column of data type int.But the Column Contract_Number is set to Varchar and all I really want to do is to create this gridview using this criteria and not convert anything! The Contract_ID is an int, which is needed as I increment it. Heres the error code:   Public Sub BindtheGrid()'Bind the Contract Grid, where ContractID is used
Dim SQL As String = "Contract_ID, Contract_Number, Start_Date, End_Date, Quarterly_Rent"
Dim objConn As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection(ConnectionString)
Dim cmdstock As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand("SELECT " & SQL & " FROM ECS_Contracts_Test WHERE Contract_Number = " & contractQueryID, objConn)
cmdstock.CommandType = CommandType.Text
objConn.Open()
GridView1.DataSource = cmdstock.ExecuteReader()
GridView1.DataBind()
objConn.Close()
End Sub If you need any more information then please let me know. Mucho Aprreciated

GridView - SqlDataSource

Apr 14, 2006

I have created a GridView that uses a SqlDataSource.  When I run the page it does not pull back any data.  However when I test the query in the SqlDataSource dialog box it pulls back data.
Here is my GridView and SqlDataSource:
<asp:GridView ID="Results" runat="server" AllowPaging="True" AllowSorting="True"
CellPadding="2" EmptyDataText="No records found." AutoGenerateColumns="False" Width="100%" CssClass="tableResults" PageSize="20" DataSourceID="SqlResults" >
<Columns>
<asp:BoundField DataField="DaCode" HeaderText="Sub-Station" SortExpression="DaCode" >
<ItemStyle HorizontalAlign="Center" CssClass="tdResults" />
<HeaderStyle HorizontalAlign="Center" CssClass="tdHeaderResults" />
</asp:BoundField>
<asp:BoundField DataField="DpInfo" HeaderText="Delivery Point" SortExpression="DpInfo" >
<HeaderStyle HorizontalAlign="Left" CssClass="tdHeaderResults" />
<ItemStyle CssClass="tdResults" />
</asp:BoundField>
<asp:HyperLinkField DataNavigateUrlFields="CuCode,OrderID" DataNavigateUrlFormatString="TCCustDetail.asp?CuCode={0}&amp;OrderID={1}"
DataTextField="OrderID" HeaderText="Order No" SortExpression="OrderID">

<asp:BoundField HeaderText="Order Date" SortExpression="OrderDate" DataField="OrderDate" >

</asp:BoundField>
<asp:BoundField DataField="ReqDeliveryDate" HeaderText="Req Delivery Date" SortExpression="ReqDeliveryDate" >
<ItemStyle HorizontalAlign="Center" CssClass="tdResults" />
<HeaderStyle HorizontalAlign="Center" CssClass="tdHeaderResults" />
</asp:BoundField>
<asp:BoundField DataField="StatusDate" HeaderText="Status Date" SortExpression="StatusDate">

<ItemStyle HorizontalAlign="Left" CssClass="tdResults" />
<HeaderStyle HorizontalAlign="Left" CssClass="tdHeaderResults" />
</asp:BoundField>
</Columns>
<HeaderStyle ForeColor="White" HorizontalAlign="Left" />
<AlternatingRowStyle CssClass="tdResultsAltRowColor" />
</asp:GridView>
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlResults" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:TransportationConnectionString %>" SelectCommand="GetOrderSummaryResults" SelectCommandType="StoredProcedure">
<SelectParameters>
<asp:Parameter DefaultValue="10681" Name="CuCode" Type="String" />
<asp:Parameter DefaultValue="" Name="DaCode" Type="String" />
<asp:Parameter DefaultValue="" Name="DpCode" Type="String" />
<asp:Parameter DefaultValue="" Name="OrderID" Type="String" />
<asp:Parameter DefaultValue="" Name="ManifestNo" Type="String" />
<asp:Parameter DefaultValue="" Name="PONo" Type="String" />
</SelectParameters>
</asp:SqlDataSource>
I can get it to fill with data by manually filling the GridView without using a SqlDataSource but then I cannot get the sorting to work when I do it that way.  Actually not sure if the sorting will work this way either as I cannot get it to fill with data.  Any ideas would be much appreciated.
