Problem With ODBC 32 Bits In A Server Of 64 Bits
Nov 19, 2007
Hello,
This is my first post in this forum, I have one application built in asp .net, through a ODBC connect to a external database (prinex). The application was running in a 32bits server, but the server had to stop and now there is running in a machine of 64 bits.
The driver that use in server of 32 bits only exists for this version, right now i have to use the same for the 64 bits machine, i can install and configure the DSN (using c:WindowsSysWow64odbcad32.exe).
But at the time of execute the aplicattion an error is displayed. ¿How can i solve this problem?, ¿There is a way to force the application to use 32 bits DSN? ¿There is an alternative solution for connect to the database? ¿Someone had the same problem?
This is the image of the error:

If somebody can help me, i would be very grateful.
PD: Sorry for my english.

I've a 32 bits application that runs on 64 bits Windows Server+MS-SQL.
I've created an ODBC DSN using c:WindowsSysWow64odbcad32.exe.
Sp, the program recognize the ODBC but having problem connecting.
The error look likes this:
***
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Could not find server '<name>' in sys.server. Verify that the correct server name was specified. If necessary, execute the stored procedure sp_addlinkedserver to add the server to sys.servers.
***
Any help is appreciated.

Ben

I have an Application developed on ASP, I got a few new servers 64bits, I installed microsoft WIN 2003 SR.
When I get in into the web site I receive this errors:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified
/ConnectToDatabase.asp, line 17
I made some obvios checks, I checked that the ODBC really exists and we move the IIS 6.0 to run in 32bits mode as I found in some page.
Thanks you.

Hi,
I have an vendor application need to use SQL Server 16 bits version for server and client. I installed the SQL Server 6.5 from my "Backoffice 20" CD ROM
I was told that after my installation of SQL Server 6.5 on server, if there is a folder "BIN" and "BINN", that means that I have installed both the 16 and 32 bits version. Is this true? To install SQL Server Client, if I install from my server from the sql65i386, the 32 bits client will be installed to my client workstation. Which folder should I look for the 16 bits client installation?

Hello,
I am setting up a new server with Windows Server 2003 x64 bits and SQL Server 2005 x64 bits. Under 32 bits of Windows we normally use /3GB and enable AWE under SQL Server (both SQL 2000 and SQL 2005) and allocate 6 GB of fixed memory to SQL Server.
Does any one know whether I should do the same thing under the x64 bits platform. I read some articles on the web that it is no longer required to use AWE under SQL 2005 x64 bits??
Please advise.
Thanks.

Hi,
I developed an SSIS package on my computer (32bits).
The package basically get data from excel file and save it to a sql database.
I use an OLE DB connection to the excel file:
Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Extended Properties=Excel 12.0;
other info: Run64bitRuntime : false
It works fine on my local computer.
I use the DeploymentManifest to deploy the package on the server. (all validations are ok).
But when I run a job which run the package i get this:

Hello,
I'm trying to install a version of SQL server 2005 with reporting services on a vista 64 bits.
I've a licence for SQL server 2005 standard edition in French, my vista is in French, and I'm using visual studio standard edition in English to develop. I would like to develop reports using SQL server to include these reports in my applications developped with Visual Studio.
Wich version of SQL server should I install ? I've tryed to install SQL server express 2005 with advanced feature SP2 (english version) and then later the standard edition (French version) (each time uninstalling all SQL server components between tries), but I got problems with reporting services each time.
I got first a warming saying than reporting services is 32 bits and IIS is 64 bits, I so allowed IIS to run 32 bits ASP .Net, but after that, I now get a problem of .Net registration in IIS as warming message on the line concerning Reporting services during the install of SQL Server, and it doesn't even offer to install RS on the next window.
I reinstalled the DotnetFX64 to be sure, but still get the same message. If I look in the IIS the application pools are looking me to be normal, with the ASPNET 32 bit code allowed.

I suppose this is more an RFC than a true question, but I've come to realize "bit" data types do not optimize a query when they are used in a WHERE clause. Since they cannot be indexed, it forces the analyzer to query an available index for rows based upon the non-bit constraints. The result is then scanned to match the values of the bit constraints of the query. So you're potentially doing a full table scan, or an index scan.
My original thought was that I'd improve performance by using bit fields since they are a smaller datatype, but as development progressed, we began using those bits in our queries. At this point, it may be beneficial to convert those bit types to smallint.
Am I wrong in my conclusion?

I apologize if this is not the correct forum for this posting. Looking at the descriptions, it appeared to be the best choice.
I am running Windows XP Pro SP2. I have installed the SQL Native Client for
XP. However, when I try to add a new data source through ODBC Connection
Manager, SQL Native Client is not listed as an option. I have followed this procedure on three other systems with no problems. What would be causing the
SQL Native Client to not show up in the list of available ODBC data sources?

Hi,
Please help share with me if you know the version compatibility matrix of Ms SQL Server, ODBC driver (sqlsrv32.dll), Driver Manager (odbc32.dll) and ODBC API spec. For instance, how can I know Ms SQL Server 2000 can work with which version of sqlsrv32.dll, a particular version of sqlsrv32.dll can work with which version of odbc32.dll and a certain version of sqlsrv32.dll/odbc32.dll conforms to which version of ODBC API spec (e.g. 3.5).
Any help will be appreciated.

When i open SSIS 2014 and tried to create the odbc connection but i can able to see only the 32 bit system DSN connection ,i can't able to see my 64 bit odbc system dsn connection.

Microsoft .NET Framework

And i installed my client odbc drivers(32,64 bit) and created ODBC system DSNs in my local system and when i open ssis 2014 and i can able to see both the ODBC system DSNS(32,64) connections from SSIS ODBC connection.
I am using below version of .net framework in my local system which was installed in windows 7 and i have SSIS 2012 also installed in my system and i can able to see both ODBC connections using 2012 as well in my local system.

Hi,
I am using VB.NET 2005 and set up an ODBC connection via ODBC.ODBCConnection to a MDB database. Therefor, I use the "Microsoft Access ODBC Driver (*.mdb)".
When I set up a ODBCCommand like "ALTER DATABASE..." or "CREATE TABLE..." and issue it with the com.ExecuteNonQuery() command, I get an error from ODBC driver, that a SQL statement has to begin with SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE or DELETE.
How can I use DDL statements via ODBC?
I would appreciate if you could help me to use ODBC for that - no OLE, no ADO.
Thanks for help!

Stefan D.

Hi all,I am having trouble getting linked Oracle 9 server in MS SQL Server2005 Express to work properly. My machine is running Windows XP.The Microsoft and Oracle OLE DB Providers have problems dealing withOracle's Numeric Data Type, so I decided to use Microsoft's OLE DB forODBC Provider and an Oracle ODBC source. When using the Microsoft ODBCfor Oracle Driver in my ODBC source I have inconsistent behavior.Sometimes my queries are processed properly, then other times I get thefollowing errorOLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "ODBCBEAST" returnedmessage "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttrfailed".OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "ODBCBEAST" returnedmessage "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttrfailed".OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "ODBCBEAST" returnedmessage "[Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]".Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDASQL"for linked server "ODBCBEAST".I have no idea why sometimes I can connect to the linked server with noproblems andwhy other times it performs like this. I'm not changing anything aboutthe system I can think of. When I use an Oracle client (PL/SQL) I haveabsolutely no problems connecting. TNSPING returns that the connectionis good. This is unacceptable so I decided to try my luck with the Oracle 10gODBC driver. However when I use this and perform an openquery selectagainst the linked server I get back only 11 rows, when I know that thedatabase has over 100 rows (in fact when using the Microsoft ODBCdriver and it works that's what I get). I figured maybe the buffersetting needed to be raised in the ODBC configuration so I took it from64000 to 600000 (a magnitude of 10) but I still get back only 11 rows.I'm at my wit's end.Any suggestions on resolving one or the other problem would be muchappreciated. Thanks much

Dear all,On Win2000 server with SP3, I am trying to access a SQL Server 7.0database, "TestDB", from VB6 via a SQL Server ODBC system DSN using ADO2.7. In SQL Server Enterprise Manager, there is a login named "Tester".In its property window, NO "Server Roles" was assigned but its"Database Access" was set to "TestDB". This login was also made as theuser of "TestDB" with "public", "db_datareader" and "db_datawriter"selected as its "Database role membership". All the tables I am tryingto access in "TestDB" were created under "Tester".My code is like:Set conn = New ADODB.Connectionconn.Open "DSN=TestDSN;UID=Tester;PWD=test"Set cmd = New ADODB.Commandcmd.ActiveConnection = conncmd.CommandText = SQLset rs = cmd.Execute()If I set the SQL to something like "SELECT * FROM tbl_test", I alwaysget an error of "-2147217865" saying "[Microsoft][ODBC SQL ServerDriver][SQL Server] Invalid object name tbl_test". If I set the SQL to"SELECT * FROM Tester.tbl_test", everything runs properly. Could anyoneplease kindly advise why the first SQL is not working? Or in otherwords, why must I prefix the table name with its owner while the DBconnection is already made under that owner name? Thanks in advance.Tracy

Hi,
when I was sending 50 simultaneous connections to the web services, I got these 2 errors:
- "1[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. "
- "An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.)"
Everything worked fine if I ran 10 simultaneous connections. I am using Microsoft ACT to load test the web service. The database is SQL Server 2000. Any idea about why this is happening?
Appreciate your help! Thanks!

I am running Windows 2003 Standard edition with IIS and SQL 2000 SP3a installed on it.
The web clients use ASP pages which use DSN to connect to SQL 2000 database. It has been working fine since last 1.5 years except 2 days ago when I faced this error suddenly on server:
In accessing any ASP page, it said:
[Microsoft][ODBC_SQL_Server_Driver][TCP/IP_Sockets_SQL_Server_does_not_exist_or_access_den ied.
On SQL Server error log, this was the entry at that time which I found:
SQLServer Error: 17, SQL Server does not exist or access denied. [SQLSTATE 08001]
The server (including SQL Server and agent service) were last stopped atleast a couple of days before, so it was not the problem about startup.
To troubleshoot, I restarted SQL Server and it worked for some time.
Then again on ASP pages, I found this error:
|80004005|[Microsoft][ODBC_SQL_Server_Driver][TCP/IP_Sockets]General_network_error._Check_your_network_document ation.
I checked the error logs of SQL server and didn't find anything.
Only entries were that the SQL is starting database, ports and IPs on which it is listening etc. The usual stuff. No errors in starting.
The SQL Agent log showed following errors:
2004-11-30 04:45:33 - ! [298] SQLServer Error: 2, ConnectionOpen (Connect()). [SQLSTATE 01000]
2004-11-30 04:45:33 - ! [382] Logon to server '(local)' failed (JobManager)
2004-11-30 04:45:36 - ! [298] SQLServer Error: 17, SQL Server does not exist or access denied. [SQLSTATE
I don't understand what was the problem. It first occured when nothing on server was changed, next it occured 30-32 hours later, and still now it hasn't happened again.
Does anyone know what can be wrong?
Thanks.

Hello,
I am new to SQL Server, sorry for my ignorance !!!
I have installed SQL Server 2005 Express on my desktop (Win 2000 Pro.)
I have created a new database.
I just created a new login/user (SQL Authentication) and when I try to login, it
errors out:

I believe the error is from SQL Server and not from ODBC driver.
I am also only able to connect by using my own userid (the one that I am connected to my desktop): domainuserid, and then I am only able to connect to 'master' db:

I have an app developed in VB6. This calls some of sps in sql server.
Most of the times it behaves properly by NOT showing PRINT statements written in the stored procedure but some times it shows.
[Microsoft][ODBC Server Driver][Sql Server] 'blah blah'
'blah blah' is the message/text I print my stored procedure.
I don't know exact behavior that when PRINT in makes client apps calling will show it and when it won't show. May be I forgot
Note: These are the sps called both from GUI application and from query window. so I can't avoid using PRINT in these sps. I am using ADODB
