SQL Server 2008 :: Error - The Column Delimiter For Column Was Not Found

Mar 26, 2010

I am getting an error importing a csv file both using SSIS and SSMS. The csv is comma delimited with quotes for text qualifiers. The file gets partially loaded and then gives me an error stating The column delimiter for column "MyColumn" was not found. In SSIS it gives me the data row which is apparently causing the problem but when I look at the file in a text editor at the specific row identified the file has the comma delimiter and it looks fine. I am using SQL Server 2008.

SQL Server 2008 :: SSIS - Passing Column Delimiter From A Variable?

Mar 13, 2015

I am building a generic SSIS where it takes a text source file and converts to a destination source file . However in the process I want to set the row delimiter and the column delimiter dynamically through the package variable. So that I can use it for any file transfer.

I saw the option for row delimiter in the file connection string property but did not see any column delimiter option.

Some Info On Setting Row Delimiter Values In Package Configurations

May 16, 2006

I just spent the past 3 or 4 hours trying to figure out how i could represent carriage returns and line feeds properly in package configuration variables that an SSIS package can properly handle, so i figured I'd post my results in case anyone else has struggled with this.

Initially, I thought I would be able to just represent the delimiter as the same value that you can pick from in the flat file connection manager dialog, i.e. {CR}{LF}, {CR}, {LF}, etc. nope.

Then I decided to try actually storing the characters as hex, i.e. _x000D__x000A_ for {CR}{LF}. nope.

After scanning the .dtsx packages for a while, I finally found something that works: you have to represent the curly brackets in hex, and you can simply use the CR or LF string literals. so if you wanted to have a row delimiter that was {CR}{LF}, you would need to set your variable to: _x007B_CR_x007D__x007B_LF_x007D_

Hope this saves some people the pain I had to endure.

Can't Save Package To Server (No Description Found) ERROR - Again

Dec 31, 2005

Hello, I need some help with installing release copies of SQL05(+SSIS) and VS05 on Win03R2.  It is very frustrating when a basic install fails. I€™ve been going round and round with this.  M$ support has not been of help yet.

I have a new development box for SQL05/VS05 development, and when I do a clean install of release software from MSDN: Windows Server 2003 R2 ent; SQL Server 2005 dev; Visual Studio 2005 pro I find that the "save to server" in SSIS (and other utilities that save a package) fails with a non-informative message *No Description Found* (see error text below).

To setup this box I install Win03R2 first, promote it to a Active Directory DC (the one and only DC in a test forest), then install VS05 onto the E: drive.  Note, I must install VS05 first (before SQL05) so that all components get installed to the RAID5 *E:* drive.  If SQL05 is installed first then VS that comes with SQL gets installed on to C: (no way I see to get around this) then the full VS05 pro gets forced to install on the C: drive.

Then I install SQL05 (with everything including SSIS).  At this point every thing works fine, packages can be saved ok.

If I then install VS05 again so that all settings of VS05 are as expected of a standard VS05 install (not the SQL version) then the problem with saving packages arises.

If the error message was a little more informative, I might be able to track down the source of the problem.  Please help!  I have tried a bunch of things - creating credentials, proxies, using the most privileged accounts possible, etc.

Thanks, MikeC

Column Delimiter As A SPACE?

Jul 25, 2007

I'm in a flat file connection manager editor and I have a flat file where the columns are separated by a space. Does anyone know how to specify a space in the column delimiter option? I've tried {' '} and {s} but these don't work. Not sure what the syntax is for indicating a space. Thanks in advance

BULK INSERT W/odd Delimiter OK In 2000, Not 2005

Jun 12, 2008

We use BULK INSERT to load client data into our program. One of our clients uses the character '²' (0xB2) as a field delimiter in their input files. This worked fine in SS2000 but is failing in SS2005. After some testing, it appears that any high-ASCII value has the same problem; if I set the delimiter to anything below 0x80, it works and with any value of 0x80 or higher it fails.

I've verified that the format file we're using is correct for all of the tested delimiter values. (|, , ², ~, and €). The database collation sequence is SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS if that matters.

Is there a way I can force acceptance of high-ASCII values as delimiters in SS2005? Do I need to play with the system code pages or the collation sequence?

Any assistance gratefully received.

Column Delimiter In DTS Output Test File

Hello Everyone,

Hope someone will be able to help me out here.

I have a text file exported from my DTS package and it requires an '!' as a custom column delimiter.

Does anyone have any idea how I can use the '!' mark instead of the Tab or Vertical Bar as my Column Delimiter?

Would appreciate any suggestions.

Set The Flat File Column Delimiter Programatically

Jan 31, 2007

hi guys,

i am working on a project witch involves creating packages on-the-fly to import data from txt/csv/xls files according to some definitions on the database.

so far, i have been doing fine.

now we are planning the ASP.net page that enables the customer to define the input file format that will be imported to the system. we want it to have the same listBox as the FlatFileConnectionManager Editor has to define some properties, such as - column delimeiter.

the code to set the column delimiter looks like this:

SSISRunTime.IDTSConnectionManagerFlatFile90 myFilecn = null;

myFilecn = (SSISRunTime.IDTSConnectionManagerFlatFile90)package.Connections["InputFileConnection"].InnerObject;

DtsConvert.ToConnectionManager90(package.Connections["InputFileConnection"]);

SSISRunTime.IDTSConnectionManagerFlatFileColumn90 col

col = myFilecn.Columns.Add(); //.....

string colDelimiter ="|" ; // it actually gets the data from the database... but it is the same thing

col.ColumnDelimiter = colDelimiter;

when we deal with the simple characters- "," , ";" , "|" ... we have no problems with setting the delimiter. but how can i set the delimiter to Tab? or {CR} ? {LF}?

i tried to look at the dtsx- XML , and i see that the column delimiter that is defined when i choose Tab is: _x007C_, but when i try to do something like this:

col.ColumnDelimiter = "_x007C_" ;

it doesn't work. the same happens when I try "{t}" or "Tab".

how do i solve this problem, and enable the user to select Tab as a column delimiter?

Thanks!

Flat File Source - How To Configure An Appropriate Column Delimiter?

Feb 19, 2008

Good day everyone,

I have a package that reads data from a CSV file, transforms it and finally loads it in a destination DB table.

My current problem lies in the parsing of the input flat file. I shall illustrate it using a small example.

Source File:
P;Product-1;Short Description for product 1
P;Product-2;Short Description for product 2

Problem:
I configured the flat file connection manager to use semicolon as the column separator. But then I have received some sample flat files where I found that the semicolon might be sometimes used as content of a column data.

Possible Solutions:
I have thought about 3 different solution and I would like to get your feedback and recommendations about them.

Alternative 1:
Use a complex column delimiter, which wouldn't be used in the data.

Example:
P#~#Product-1#~#Short Description for product 1
P#~#Product-2#~#Short Description for product 2

Question 1:
- Is it possible to define such a customized column delimiter for the Flat File Connection Manager?
- If yes, how can I do this?

Alternative 2:
Use double quotes around the data, which the Flat File Source Adapter must somehow recognize and trim before pushing the data down the Data Flow.

Example:
"P";"Product-1";"Short Description for product 1"
"P";"Product-2";"Short Description for product 2"

Question 2:
- Is it possible to configure the Flat File Source Adapter to work as described?
- If yes, how can I do this?

Alternative 3:
Use a Script Component and write the needed code for parsing the Flat File.

Question 3:
- Do you have further suggestions/ideas for solving this parsing problem?

Thanks in advance and my regards,
Samar

SQL Server 2012 :: Exclude Rows Where Value In Column Not Found In Another Row

Jul 16, 2014

This is a followup to a previous question to a previous but in reverse of Find rows where value in column not found in another row

Given one table, Table1, with columns Key1 (int), Key2 (int), and Type (varchar)...

I would like to exclude any two rows where Type is equal to 'TypeA' and Key2 is Null that have a corresponding row in the table where Type is equal to 'TypeB' and Key2 is equal to Key1 from another row.

So, given the data

**KEY1** **Key2** **Type**
1 NULL TypeA
2 5 TypeA
3 1 TypeB
4 NULL TypeA
5 NULL TypeB
6 26 TypeC
7 NULL TypeD
8 NULL TypeD

I would like to return all the rows except where Key=1 and Key=3 because those rows together meet the criteria of Type='TypeA'/Key2=NULL and does have a corresponding row with Type='TypeB'/Key1=Key2.

SQL Server 2012 :: Find Rows Where Value In Column Not Found In Another Row In Same Table

Jul 16, 2014

Can't seem to make this SQL query work!

Given one table, Table1, with columns Key1 (int), Key2 (int), and Type (varchar)...

I would like to get the rows where Type is equal to 'TypeA' and Key2 is Null that do NOT have a corresponding row in the table where Type is equal to 'TypeB' and Key2 is equal to Key1 from another row

So, given the data

**KEY1** **Key2** **Type**
1 NULL TypeA
2 5 TypeA
3 1 TypeB
4 NULL TypeA
5 NULL TypeB

I would like to return only the row where Key1 = 4 because that row meets the criteria of Type='TypeA'/Key2=NULL and does not have a corresponding row with Type='TypeB'/Key1=Key2 from another row.

I have tried this and it doesn't work...

SELECT t1.Key1, t1.Key2, t1.Type
FROM Table1 t1
WHERE t1.Key2 IS NULL
AND t1.Type LIKE 'TypeA'
AND t1.Key1 NOT IN
(SELECT Key1
FROM Table1 t2
WHERE t1.Key1 = t2.Key2
AND t1.Key1 <> t2.Key1
AND t2.Type LIKE 'TypeB')

Scheduling A Job Containing A DTS Package On Sql Server 2000

Jul 20, 2005

I've tried several different possibilities but don't have enough basicunderstanding of the ownerships and permissions that are involved soI'm looking for someone to explain what is required:I created a DTS package that includes a drop table, create table, anddata transformation task. Originally, my owner was local to the pcworkstation with administrator priveleges. When I executed thepackage on demand (manually, not scheduled), it runs just fine. Noerrors. When I schedule the package to run at a scheduled day/time,it fails with an access is denied message.I originally was using the sql admin user and password in theconnection but the view job history kept referencing "Executed asuser: sqlservernameSYSTEM...." and errored with an access is deniedmessage. Where did it get the SYSTEM user from since my connectionused the sql admin user in my DTS package? Do I need to determine howto get the sql admin user or should the SYSTEM user really have to runthis scheduled job? How do I get the sql admin user to show as the"executed as user"?I created another admin user to see if it had someone to do with thesql admin account but I got similar results. I tried creating thepackage as an NT domain user but got similar results.I'm sure it has something to do with permissions and ownerships but Ireally don't have a clear understanding of how it was intended towork.Any advise you can give is greatly appreciated. I've read alot ofpostings and I'm still not clear on the requirements.

Oledb Source Issues &&<column Name&&> Cannot Be Found In Datasource

Oct 4, 2007

Good morning,

I have written a package which accepts variables for the server, initial catalog & table name.

I execute sql to drop the following stored procedure, then following sql statement to create it.

================================================================
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO

CREATE procedure [dbo].[SP_CreateMatchProc]
@sTable varchar(300)
as
BEGIN
SET NOCOUNT ON
declare @cmd nvarchar(2000)
set @cmd = ''''
Set @cmd = 'SELECT REPLACE(field1 + field2 + field3 + field4 + field5, '' '', '''') AS dBString '
+ 'FROM ' + @sTable + ' ORDER BY <table>_ID COLLATE Latin1_General_CI_AS'
exec (@cmd)
END
GO

================================================================

Then in the Oledb source (validateexternalmetadata = false) I use "sqlcommand from variable" with a variable value of "SP_CreateMatchProc '<tableName>'"

The package runs fine in the IDE regardless of variable values, but when I created a batch file which calls dtexec I get a failure:

with the ValidateExternalMetadata set to TRUE I get

Code: 0xC004706B
Source: Data Flow Task DTS.Pipeline
Description: "component "OLE DB Source" (10621)" failed validation and returned validation status "VS_NEEDSNEWMETADATA".

the most notable thing I see there is that it looks like a different ID (310) with out the validation and (10621) with it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Corrupted Table In SQL 2000, DBCC CheckDB Found No Errors

Jan 21, 2008

Hello,

I am facing an issue with a table in my database.

1) When I run a query Select * from MY_Table the query never completes. If I press cancel in Query Analyzer after 1 second or 2 minutes, it always shows the same 174 records. The total table size is 800 KB with 3148 rows .. according to TaskPad

2) No queries, even queries that would return only 1 record complete execution against that table

3) I am unable to rename the table, if I try to rename the table Enterprise Manager becomes unresponsive and has to be closed.

4) If I try to browse the rows through Enterprise manager by scrolling through the records, it allows me to go down through a number of rows and then Enterprise manager gives me a timeout expired error.

5) I ran a DBCC CheckDB command ran for 1 hr and 7 minutes. It says there are 0 allocation errors and 0 consistency errors in the database.

6) The other database tables seem to be OK and the Database is operational except for calls involving the 1 Table

7) I am unable to Drop the Table

8) DBCC CheckAlloc finds 0 allocation errors and 0 consistency errors.

9) DBCC CheckTable on MY_Table returns with: There are 3148 rows in 33 pages for object 'MY_Table' .. no errors are printed.

Can one of the SQL Gurus on this forum please recommend a course of action.

Thanks in advance.

DTS 2000 Package Designer And SQL Server 2005

Mar 28, 2007

I am not sure where to ask this question. So I figured here may be ok

I have several DTS 2000 packages and I have SQL 2005 installed on my local machine. However the rest of the company is still using SQL 2000 (for now). So I do not want to convert them to ssis yet. One of the things we just did to the packages is make all flat files use \localhost and any servers point to (local). Now in ssis this works fine but using the DTS 2000 package designer it does not like either of these at all. The reason we wanted to do this is so when we switch out servers there is no changes to our DTS packages.

Running SSIS Package On SQL Server 2000 ?

Oct 19, 2007

Hello!

I´m currently developing an import/export package in SSIS. I recently realized that this package is supposed to be run on a SQL Server 2000 instance, and I have no clue if this will work...
I´m pretty new to SQL Server, but I now that DTS from 2000 ws replaced by SSIS in 2005,
and the command-line dtsrun replaced by dtexec.

So my question: Will I be able to run a SSIS package on SQL Server 2000, and how would I do that?

Regards,

Daniel

Using @column = [column] SQL Server 2000

Nov 20, 2007

Should the following select statement return ALL the records including the records where [district] is null?  Currently it is only returning non null records.  I tried it with a default value and without with the same results.
SelectCommand="SELECT [ID], [last], [first], [district], [TA] FROM [regd] Where ([district] Like case when @district is null then [district] else @district end)"
<SelectParameters ><asp:ControlParameter ControlID="Last_textbox" Name="district" defaultvalue="%" PropertyName="Text" Type="String" /></SelectParameters>

Return Column Names Where Values Were Not Found [stored Procedure]

Sep 5, 2004

I need to check whether procedure found any matches or not. If not it has to return the column name where matching value was not found. For example, if there was no record found in the table "Addresses" column "customer" with the value @username, it should return "street". If id with value @prod_id was not found in the table "Products", the "productname" must be returned as well.

CREATE PROC sp_test
@id INT,
@username VARCHAR(50),
@prod_id INT
AS

SELECT name FROM Customers WHERE id=@id
SELECT street FROM Addresses WHERE customer=@username
SELECT productname FROM Products WHERE id=@prod_id

It is kind of check, which has to find out if users have inserted all the necessary values or not.
Thanks for any advice.
