Hello, i have a problem and i don't found a forum related with the enterprise edition, so i do it here.
My problem is that i can't connect to sql server, it says that does not allow remote connections. I know about the services in sql server express, so i go to SQL Server Configuration Manager to see if the services are stoped or not, but THERE ARE NOT SERVICES THERE, not even one!, It's that a problem or the enterprise version doesn't have it? I have to do something else? Please help me with that issue,
We are migration few database from SQL 2000 Enterprise Server to the SQL 2005 Enterprise Server (64 bit-Itanium Server)
Problem :
- The performance difference observer was not much (Just 15-18%)
- The CPU Utilization goes to 100% immediately, when the software login screen appears and it sustains in between 90% to 100%
- Multi-User Access (3 or more concurrent users), the sql performance is tremendously slow.
Steps followed for Migration:
- We have used the backup and restore method to migrate the data from SQL 2000 Enterprise Server to the SQL 2005 Enterprise Server (64 bit-Itanium Server).
- We ran the DBCC DBREINDEX for each affected tables
- We executed the sp_updatestats procedure for all the tables
- Upgraded the DB compatibility version to 90
- Installed the SQL 2005 Enterprise Server (64 bit-Itanium Server) Service pack 2.
One thing that we observed, was the memory usage, on SQL 2000 the sqlservr.exe uses around 1.5 GB where as on the SQL 2005 its just 120 MB.
A normal select query on 2000 Server took 11-12 sec, having 10 lac records, and the same query on 2005 took 1 min (3-5 sec CPU process taken by sqlservr and rest by the Sever Management Studio.
The only differance noted was that on 2000 the entire data was displayed at one go where as in 2005 the data was displayed at the 1st sec, and was filling the rest in the buffer, and to finally display entire data it took 1 min.
Also
when we run this query
select * from sys.dm_os_sys_info
one column os_priority_class shows a value = 32 ? what does this means.
In the MSSQLSERVER SERVICES, properties, there is a parameter displaying value
Advanced > Running Under 64 bit OS = No ? what does this means.
Could anyone pls suggest as to how to increase the sqlservr.exe memory area, and also how the enhance the performance.
When I proposed start to use SQL Server 2005 for new VS 2005 web sites, one of my co-workers responded that we will update the old SQL Server 2000 databases to SQL Server 2005 when we are ready to use 2005 SQL Server.
Questions: 1. Any expected problems to upgrade old 2000 databases to new 2005 SQL Server? 2. I have installed both 2005/Management Studio Express and 2000/Enterprise Manager in my PC. Any expected problems when running both 2000 and 2005 SQL Server at the same database server? 3. What is the best configuration for running SQL Server 2005 when we have old 2000 databases? Upgade or not upgrade?
Not sure if this was posted but having a hard time finding an answer. I'm currently running sql server 2000 enterprise edition on my machine and was wondering what would happen if i installed 2005 express edition and vice versa? I've found many blogs and post about compatibility issues with the 2005 Express Beta version but couldn't find any news with full version. It would be much appreciated if someone can help me out with this problem. Thanks!
Does anyone know how to properly install SQL server 2005 express reporting services on windows server 2008. When ever i try to access the report manager I get an error "Cannot access the remote server" even though the report server is on the local machine. I only have the web server role installed on the server. Im still quite a newbie at managing servers so please keep it as simple as possible. Thanks Matthew
If SQL Server Setup fails, Setup will roll back the installation but may not remove all .manifest files. The workaround is to rename the files and then rerun Setup. For more information, see How to: Work Around COM+ Check Failure in SQL Server Setup.

I installed SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition Yesterday. I got a warning regarding the hardware, and I would like to know if it is going to be a issue with replication functionality.
My computer H/W and S/w configuration is
H/W
Intel 102 Main Board with Inbuilt Graphic and supports DDR2
Intel Pentium 4 3.06 GHz
1.0GHz DDR2 RAM
S/W
Windows Server 2003 RT
To my understandingthis should be fine as per the requirements given in SQL2005.
Hi Everyone,Most of our MS SQL Servers are still running on SQL 2000, but being Iwill soon be upgrading my workstation to Vista Business I'd like toinstall MS SQL 2005 Enterprise Manager to manage them all. When Itried to install MS SQL 2000 Enterprise Manager on Vista, it gave me amessage saying it's not compatible, so I'll have to use 2005 I guess. We have LOTS of DTS scripts on our SQL 2000 server, and will 2005 EMwork with these okay? Also I want to make sure SQL 2005 EnterpriseManager won't be adding to, changing, or 'upgrading' the DTS scripts oranything on the SQL 2000 servers as we still have folks using SQL 2000Enterprise Manager. Thanks for any suggestions. I'm always leery when using cross-versionsof Microsoft applications because they are often incompatible or theydo squirly things that often break stuff. Thanks --Alex

I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 Enterprise on one of my test server. I am sure I entered the correct domain user name and password and the account is admin. I€™ve tried several times but I got this error instantly:
The SQL Server service failed to start. For more information, see the SQL Server Books Online topics, "How to: View SQL Server 2005 Setup Log Files" and "Starting SQL Server Manually."
Some of the other component could be installed properly. The system was just rebuilt with only VSTS 2005 installed.

Does anyone know how to recreate the SQL Server Enterprise Manager.MSC file? It seems to have disappeared from the server. How can I open Enterprise Manager without it? I'm using NT4.0 and SQL Server 7.
I've managed somehow to corrupt the Enterprise Manager.MSC file (it has ocurred several times), so it's impossible to open a table. What can I do about it except re-installing the server? What can be done to protect this file?
I'm a newbie to Enterprise Manager so I appreciate any help.
Here's my question:
I have a SQL Server 7.0 account hosted by a webhosting company on a shared server. When I create a server registration and attempt to connect remotely to this database using Enterprise Manager, I get the following error:
Server user "john_sa' is not a valid user in database 'test123497'
The problem is that test123497 is NOT the database that they are hosting for me. I rechecked my Client Network Utility alias to make sure I'm connecting to the correct IP address and I double checked my username and password.
The server hosting this account is attempting to connect me to the wrong database. Sometimes I get through ok and other times I get the above error.
Is this because the hosting company has too many accounts on this server? Is the server running out of resources? Is there anything I can do remotely to control this?
Hi there, We have a SQL Server in a Demilitarised Zone, i.e. off the LAN, and I need to configure the Firewall so that I can talk to the SQL Server from inside the LAN using Enterprise Manager etc.
Does anyone know what port Ent Mgr would use, or have any information on this subject. I would certainly appreciate any feedback.
I'm setting up a new system and want to do a cluster. We have Win2k3 Enterprise already. My question is do you have to have enterprise edition of SQL2K to do clustering w/ win2k3?
I have a AS400 that I retrieved data from and imported into SQL 2000 Server. However, the data will only insert 1 time. I would like to query the AS400 every minutes to update my table on SQL server. If the data is already in my table it does not get updated. How can I get updated/changed data every 15 minutes?
I have a question. I want to migrate from mySql to Sql Server, and I should decide which version will I use. The problem is that I need partitioning, and it is included only in the Enterprise version. But the Enterprise version costs 5 times more than the standard and the workgroup version. Is it worth to spend so much money only for the partitioning? Also, maybe I am wrong, and the partitioning is also included in the Standard version?
Why does the SQL Server Enterprise Manager seem to block other processes? I am working with SQL2000 developers version with SP4. When I set up a Data transformation service, it is not actioned until I close/open the Server Enterprise Manager. Otherwise it sits there as Process id 51 Master - runnable (this is the SEM) and Process id 52 - DTS sleeping.
Just installed this on a server at work. From home (outside of our network), I cannot connect to this instance from Management Studio, as I'm getting the following error :
When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.(provider: Named Pipes Provider, error 40 - Could not open connection to a SQL Server)
However, if I try from Sql 2000 Enterprise Manager on another box in my house, I have no probem connecting.
And yes, the Server at work is configured to accept remote connections.
I'm a newbie trying to find the SQL Server Enterprise Manager so I cancreate a database. I have installed SQL Server 2005 Express and SQL ServerManagement Studio Express. On the SQL Server menu I see (1) ConfigurationTools and (2) SQL Server Management Studio Express. The SQL ServerManagement Studio Express menu has 3 items on it. Where do I find theEnterprise Manager?Robert
I am trying desparately to build a user defined function on the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 viewer and when it is performed I get the following message:
[Microsoft][ODB SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] Maximum stored procedure, function, trigger, or view nesting level exceeded
Is there any problem using sql MAX() built in function? How can I resolve this issue?
The UDF code is: CREATE FUNCTION TestFunc (@Syn int) RETURNS int AS BEGIN IF @Syn IS NULL RETURN 1 DECLARE @NewPersonID INT SELECT @NewPersonID = MAX(PersonID) FROM GO_Test WHERE SynagogueID = @Syn RETURN ISNULL(@NewPersonID + 1, 1) END
I call the function from the 'Formula' propery of a computed field of a table like this: ([dbo].[TestFunc]([SynagogueID]))
I am having trouble with sql server timing out. I have the timeout set to maximum, and the query I am running is pretty simple. The data is about 10+ million lines, but It should not have a problem running queries on this. plus the timeout comes before the expiration of the timeout setting. The strange thing is, is that sometimes it will work if you just keep running the query. Has anyone run into this, and is there a fix? Also, sometimes if i link the table to an mdb and run the query through access, it will pull the results! what is that about?
I installed a default instance of Enterprise edittion and
didn't face any error during the instalation process.
In Management Studio in the Server Name section for loging in I wrote the name of the local system.
but I couldn't log in.
in
Control Panel administrative toolsservices
there is no SQL Server service at all.
should I install any thing extra just like Express Edition which I used to install SQL Express in Visual Studio 2005 pakage or like MSDE in SQL Server 2000??
I have an MSDN License from Microsoft and I am trying to install SQL 2000 enterprise edition to my XP laptop. I get an error stating that SQL is not compatable with this operating system. It is only offering to install the client tools. Can someone give me a heads up here and let me know what is going on, because I know I had this installed before.
