Hi,I'm trying to install MSDE Desktop SP3a SQL server on my Windows 2000 Professional Laptop.Every time I try it nearly finishes the installation and then just rollsback. Can anyone help? Is this a known issue? Thanks in advance,Jocky
Does anyone know if it's at all possible to install SQL Server Express 2005 over a Remote Desktop on a Windows XP machine.
I know there are problems running SQL over Remote Desktop, in that it won't start up a User Instance, but I wasn't sure if we can install over Remote Desktop.
If it's not possible, can anyone point me to an official document stating this fact?
I have installed Sql 7.0 desktop edition on Win 98 with IE5 and am having a problem starting the Sql server. It auto registered the server under my machine name. It was returning a network connection error so I deleted it and tried to add one with the name (local). Enterprise Manager then returned an error saying one was already registered under that name.
I installed MSDE desktop with no problems... months later when creating a database, I stupidily forgot the "sa" password that I set during setup... So I decided to unistall MSDE and reinstall it, this time documenting the username and password... BUT now it is giving me errors which I am unable to solve... is there anyone out there that might be able to help me??
I go to a command-line, locate the directory where the install program lives and type in "setup SAPWD=(a password) SecurityMode=SQL" and it returns the follow error message: "Setup Failed to configure the server. Refer to the server error logs and setup error logs"
My problem is I don't know where to locate these error logs. Please if anyone can help me with this problem I would greatly appreciate it.
What can I do about this? There doesn't seem to be any workaround, I've upgraded everything, including the Msiexec to 3.2 (v2), but the same error always pops up.
I've done other installs of the same product without any problem whatsoever.
Is it possible to install and configure the MSDTC resource in a SQL Server 2000 cluster after SQL is installed and running?
When I recently went through a rebuild of my cluster, I forgot to install the resource before installing SQL Server. Now, if I install and bring online the MSDTC resource the SQL disk groups will not fail over correctly. The SQL Server resource will not come online.
Thanks in advance for any help. I would really like to avoid rebuilding again.
1. Today I've installed webmatrix and MSDE200A and followed this instruction"Select 'SQL2kdesksp3.exe' and save it to your computer.Double-click on the SQL2kdesksp3.exe you downloaded.Once you have run the self extracting exe (SQL2kdesksp3.exe), go to a command prompt.Start > Run > cmdNavigate to the directory you expanded the self extracting exe to and change to the MSDE subdirectory. The default is C:sql2ksp3Type Setup SAPWD=(Some password) SecurityMode=SQLExample:c:sql2ksp3> Setup SAPWD=password SecurityMode=SQLAfter that gets done running, MSDE is installed.Start servicesTo get the SQL Server running and the SQL Agent we need start the services.right click My Computer > manage > servicesDouble click the following and set to Automatic.MSSQLSERVERSQLSERVERAGENTMake sure both are on automatic." then I restarted my comp. I've tried to connect to database but it did not work.I need the reply ASAP!!!! 2.What are the different among MSDE200A.exe, sql2ksp3.exe, and sql2kdesksp3.exe ?
Is it necessary to have a MS Loopback Adaptor to install SQL Server desptop edition at my home ? ( Otherwise i am unable to connect to the server from the EM ) Thanks, Deepak.
my application has a good amount of data that is specific to each company (where there is only one user). i am currently setting it up as a access project, but was wondering about another route. to store the local data would there be an advantage to setting it up as a access project, and use the sql server desktop engine for the data, or should i stick with mdb tables?
Does a desktop version SQL Server exist with Enterprise Manager and Query Analyzer? I'm a developer who uses SQL Server, Enterprise Manager and Query Analyzer at work to write scripts and batches. I would like to enhance my SQL Server skills at home on my desktop computer.
I am developing a windows application that needs to communicate with a remote SQL server 2005 database. Server allows remote connections and MSDTC service also running. Do I need to run MSDTC service on the client machine where I use desktop application ? any ideas ? It's throwing some error like An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.
But my SQL Server allows remote connection, and I am able to do a select statement. But when I insert/update anything, it's throwing this error. I guess some problem with MSDCT. Anybody have any idea ?
I€™ve developed a BI system using the SQL Server 2005 Developer€™s Edition.
SSAS, SSIS and SSRS have been added to a SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition Server in preparation for delivering the developed database to this live environment.
So I am able to connect directly to the Database Engine, SSAS, SSIS and SSRS successfully from the actual SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition box which is sat on a Windows 2003 Server operating system.
However when I launch SQL Server Management Studio from a desk top PC which is connected to the SQL Server Standard Edition box I can€™t connect to either SSIS or SSRS, however I can connect to the Database Engine and it also seems that I can connect to SSAS OK.
I am using Windows Authentication where the I used a SQL Server account which exists with €śsysadmin€? permissions and this SQL Server account has the same login name as the Windows Server 2003 desktop login.
I am trying to use msde for the startup kits. but i cannot connect to it. How can I do a simple test to verify it is installed and that I can log into the db?

As we known, we can build up the data in not only in Server version but also in Sesktop version. So, what's the difference? Except the power that Server can provide compared to the desktop computer. Whatelse?
I recently installed SQL Server 7.0 on my desktop workstation. I has been working great until yesterday when services wouldn't start. The Service Manager gave me a message "An error 1069 - (The service did not start due to a logon failure.) occurred while performing this service operation on the MSSQLServer service." It appears to be a permission problem, but my profile hasn't changed, I have admin rights on my workstation. Can anybody help?

I have a few questions about the SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE), sorry there are so many ..
1. Which software products does this come with ? 2. If I create a SQL Server Database and want to distribute it to clients, how do I actually do it with MDSE ? 3. If I need to "upgrade" my database at some point in the future (that may contain data at a client site) how would I go about getting all the data out - would I need to write an external app ? 4. What are it's pros and cons when compared to installing full SQL Server on a client site ? 5. I've heard that the preformance of an MSDE Database degrades severely after more than 5 concurrent connections, is this just due to the performance of the product or is it something to do with the licencing model ? 6. Is it possible to write applications in, say VB, to alter the database once it has been installed on client site e.g. modify/create tables, indexes, stored procedures ?
I'm trying to figure out how to determine why the same database is fast on my desktop but slow on a robust multiprocessor win2003 server.
I have a complex proc that takes about 27 seconds on my desktop sql server but takes almost 5 minutes on the server. The server processors are running at about 1% utilization while the proc is running.
Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this extremely poor performance?
Has anyone had trouble accessing SQL 2000 desktop install over the LAN on SBS 2003? I cannot access my installation from the same domain, yet when I install it on a machine running something other than SBS 2003 there are no problems. Everything seems shared correctly, and I have tried loggin on to the remote machine as Administrator with no success. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Hi Everyone,Apparently, I was being asked on a question, "Why don't we procure adesktop PC to run MS SQL Server 2000 rather than a buying a server?".From a Management point-of-view, buying a desktop PC is much cheaperthan a server. However, I just wanted to understand that is it aviable solution given the database size is something around 200 GB?Equipping with more memory, more storage and a more powerful CPU on adesktop PC could really taking up the role to support the DBMS?Besides this "sensitive" costing concerns, what will be othersdifference in running the SQL Server 2000 on the two differenthardware architecture? For example, IO rate, reliability, RAID-1support, performance, … etc.(Note: The operating system is Microsoft Windows 2000 EnterpriseEdition)Regards,Ambrose
Can someone advise me if this is basically SQL server 2000 and will work effectively to simulate sql server on a stand alone development machine ? Is this what its meant for?
Hello, I'm trying to install Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MDSE) and it said that I require a SA Password. I can't figure out how to do this. Can anybody help? Thanks, Shenra
Trying to install Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine on my laptop. I downloaded the software and opened it to a folder on the C drive. Then from the command prompt I entered this:
The program starts to install and seems to get near to the end of instal and then the progress bar starts going backwards and nothing gets installed....any ideas of what I'm doing wrong....I really don't know anything about this at all.
I'm in the process of attempting to install Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine on my computer in support of an email program call Mailloop6. I've tried going through their tech support but they haven't been able to figure it out.
I'm running Windows XP with SP1 upgrade on a DSL connection.
When I installed the program the first time, I got the following error:
"Setup failed to configure the server. Refer to the server error logs and setup error logs for more information."
The program obviously wouldn't install. I contacted the vendor and they sent a version with a batch file. Same result. I removed all the appropriate registry entries between installs and removed all the data files as well.
I've tried installing the program using the free MDSE download from the MS site with the following result:
"A Strong SA password is required for security reasons. Please use SAPWD switch to supply the same. Refer to readme for more details. Setup will now exit."
Here's the error log that I got after attempting to install:

Is it ok to use SQL Server 2005 CE as an embedded DBMS inside a desktop (Windows XP / w2k3 / Vista) application?
The whitepaper available here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/A/4/7/A47B7B0E-976D-4F49-B15D-F02ADE638EBE/Compact_Express_Comparison.doc describes this as one of the primary usages of the product. However, I've seen information elsewhere on this forum that seems to imply that SQL Server 2005 CE is not allowed in desktop applications.
Can you please clarify this, and specify any limitations of this usage?
Also, the whitepaper refers to an online redistribution agreement that needs to be signed in order to freely redistribute SQL Server 2005 CE inside a commercial application. Can you please point to this agreement?
