Hi,I'm trying to install MSDE Desktop SP3a SQL server on my Windows 2000 Professional Laptop.Every time I try it nearly finishes the installation and then just rollsback. Can anyone help? Is this a known issue? Thanks in advance,Jocky
I installed MSDE desktop with no problems... months later when creating a database, I stupidily forgot the "sa" password that I set during setup... So I decided to unistall MSDE and reinstall it, this time documenting the username and password... BUT now it is giving me errors which I am unable to solve... is there anyone out there that might be able to help me??
I go to a command-line, locate the directory where the install program lives and type in "setup SAPWD=(a password) SecurityMode=SQL" and it returns the follow error message: "Setup Failed to configure the server. Refer to the server error logs and setup error logs"
My problem is I don't know where to locate these error logs. Please if anyone can help me with this problem I would greatly appreciate it.
I got this message from Backup Exec for Windows Servers Environment Check 1.0 for SBS1 QUOTE
An instance of Microsoft SQL 2000 was found that is not updated to Service Pack 3a.
An instance of Microsoft SQL Server was found that is not updated to the correct service pack. Using this SQL Server instance with Backup Exec may cause errors. To install Backup Exec successfully, upgrade this SQL Server to Service Pack 3a, or select another instance.
Server : w2k server sp4 Tablet : w2k sp4 Sql Server 2000
A few days ago we upgraded our servers and tablet pc's with sql server sp3a. At the same time we also changed the publisher and it now uses a static filter to reduce the number of records in the tablet database. Since we have done this we have been getting an error message when we try to synchronize via the windows synchronization manager on our tablet pc's. The error message is "mobsync.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program. I looked up the error message and it is a stack overflow. This does not happen every time but about 50% of the time. We can always sync from within enterprise manager and everything works fine every time.
If any one has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it and thank you in advance.
I have a new computer p4 2.8 i just install in it the Microsoft Visual Studio .NET, when i try to install the sql server desktop from: "C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio .NETSetupMSDE" in the middle it stops installing, I tryed to uninstall Visual Studio and install it again , but i get the same problem what can i do?
Now that support for SQL SP3a has been removed, how does this affect MSDE installations? We've got lots of products installed that have come with MSDE backends, all on SP3a. Is it up to the individual vendors as to whether they continue to support on this version? Backup Exec and Insight Manager are 2 that spring to mind.
Hi, I'm trying to upgrade MSDE with SP4. I used the following in command prompt. setup /upgradesp sqlrun INSTANCENAME=MSDEINSTANCE SECURITYMODE=SQL UPGRADEUSER=username UPGRADEPWD=userpassword /L*v C:MSDELog.log i got the message "Please go the control panel to install and configure system components." What does it mean? How to upgrade it?I have tried to edit the line with *V, and using the sa username and password, but i get the same message. RegardsKenneth Davidsen
Can someone advise me if this is basically SQL server 2000 and will work effectively to simulate sql server on a stand alone development machine ? Is this what its meant for?
I just upgraded my desktop engine MSDE 1.0 to MSDE 2000 SP3a. Everything seemed to go well, MSSQLSERVER AND SQLSERVER Agent Services are running, problem is, I can no longer see the particular instance on the network from Enterprise Manager.
The installation instructions specified that if the Instance was to accept connections from applications on other computers not to specify the DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS parameter, so I didn't.
I'm a little green with this, can anyone suggest a place to start troubleshooting?

Does anyone know if it's at all possible to install SQL Server Express 2005 over a Remote Desktop on a Windows XP machine.
I know there are problems running SQL over Remote Desktop, in that it won't start up a User Instance, but I wasn't sure if we can install over Remote Desktop.
If it's not possible, can anyone point me to an official document stating this fact?
I am getting an error when installing SP3a of MSDE. I get the error message "The instance name specified is invalid." This is the first SQL database installed, so there is no instance name. I have tried "default" and "MSSQLSERVER" as instance names without success.
I have installed Sql 7.0 desktop edition on Win 98 with IE5 and am having a problem starting the Sql server. It auto registered the server under my machine name. It was returning a network connection error so I deleted it and tried to add one with the name (local). Enterprise Manager then returned an error saying one was already registered under that name.
Am very new to MS SQL adminstration Can anybody help me out how to work on Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000) Release A just for the practice.
The activity which am going to workout on MSDE is below.
How to install SQL(on XP) How the layout will be(like if i insall MSDE what are all Application will be and how they depends on each other) How to create/delete tables if so, how can we do it either by GUI or CUI
This week I was told to setup MSDE Desktop Engine on my pc bcz my Access back end db is getting bigger in size. And as a little advance step, I decided to put my Access back end on SQL server.
To be frank, I have no experience with SQL server but after reading the instructions, I have installed MSDE (latest version) on my pc successfully. A small icon of SQL server appeared nearby clock icon of my pc showing the SQL server is running on ASHFAQUEPC.
I shifted a Trial db onto this server in following way.
Considering the opened Trial db would be my BE, from the Tools---Database Utility---Upsize wizard, I followed below steps according to Upsize wizard.
1.I selected ‘Local’ server and check marked to ’Use Trusted Connection’. 2.And then I selected some tables to export 3.Kept all default attributes of db as it is 4.Selected ‘Let the wizard decide’ under data option to include. 5.At the next step ‘What application change do you want to make? a.Create a new Access client/Server application. b.Link SQL Server tables to existing application. c.No application changes. (I selected this option)
Then it showed me the report of my db description of changes that were made after deploying it. The report I did not print bcz it was a trial db with one table (2 fields) and a simple query.
My idea was to connect my Trial BE with another one of another Access mdb file so FE would be Access and BE would be from MSDE.
1.Now I don’t know how to link my BE to my FE? 2.From where I can directly see my BE? Because SQL Server Service Manager does not have any menu? 3.Where I was wrong in following steps?
Can anybody help? I have a Windows XP and 2003 server; we have installed SQL 2005 Express on it but have an application that installs MSDE 2000 to connect to an application. After the MSDE 2000 is installed we can no longer see the instance across the network. If we uninstall the SQL 2005 express version we can see the Instance in MSDE 2000. Is there any compatibility issue with install MSDE 2000 after SQL 2005 has been installed. Many Thanks in advance David
My question is, is it possible to connect to an SQL database using the MSDE 2000 SP3a edition over the internet? And if so, how do I set it up? Thank you in advance.
What can I do about this? There doesn't seem to be any workaround, I've upgraded everything, including the Msiexec to 3.2 (v2), but the same error always pops up.
I've done other installs of the same product without any problem whatsoever.
Hi: I'm just getting started with ASP.net and am trying to install MSDE. I am getting the error message : Instance specified name is invalid. I have followed the directions in the downloadpage. Any help??
I am running Windows XP Pro. When trying to install MSDE, sql2ksp3, i go to the command line and enter: setup SAPWD=somegreatpassword SECURITYMODE=SQL and off it goes, gathering information and starting to install.
After a short period of time where the status bar shows about 9 seconds left the status bar runs backwards down to zero and installation stops.
No error message, no crashes, just packs up its tent and goes away.
I have tried running setup from a batch file with the same results.
I have turned off my antivirus program as well as all other programs.
I followed all instructions, then I got an example from microsoft on creating a database, it isjust a visual basic example, it has a button create database and it says sql server not found but i can see it on the tray that it is running and using the web interface i can see the databases so i dont know why doesnt the microsoft created example doesnt work. Thank you
I need help installing MSDE. I am using Windows XP. When I download it and try to set the password with the Command Prompt, it doesn't work. When I setup XP my username became the Admin. When I open the Command Prompt, it defaults into my documents and setting - I can't get a C: prompt. My login is the Admin and the old Administrator account isn't listed anywhere on my computer. Am I screwed? Do I have to reinstall XP and have the seperate Admin account? Please help.
I am having a problem with installing MSDE. I do not have SQL Server 2000 installed on my computer, but I am getting the error, "A strong SA password is required for security reasons. Please use SAPWD switch to supply the same..." If I am not running SQL Server, how can I get an SA password so I can complete the install. Thanks for the help in advance.
I've downloaded sql2ksp3. After I have extracted the file, I found MSDE folder and I ran the setup.exe. Halfway through the installation, it says the instance name specified is invalid.
