Problems Loading SQL Server 2000

Feb 10, 2007

Hi

I'm having problems loading a new instance of SQL 2000 Developer edition as
a default instance onto my laptop. Everytime I try to do so it I get a
message at the end of the installation saying the 'Server failed to
initialize' and refer to the set up log. When I look at the error log it
says
"[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] data source not found and no default
driver specified".

Can anyone help me understand this please

Loading Data Into SQL 2000 From Text Files

May 1, 2002

I have 6000+ text files, average size 400 kb, that I need to load into 1 table in Sql Server 2000. Does anyone know of an easy way to do this? I thought I would just write a little VB app to loop through all the files in the directory and insert the data into an existing table but there must be an easier way.

Any help would be appreciated.

Loading To SQL Server

Jan 26, 2006

What is the fastest way I can load data into SQL SErver -- it seems to me it's with Bulk Copy and minimal logging. But that seems very slow when I look at Orace's Data Pump and DB2's LOADer. Does SSIS help here -- from what I can tell, you help me tons and tons on the ET part, but the L is what I'm wondering about...

Loading Huge XML To SQL Server 2005

Jan 13, 2008

Hi,
I am using VS2003 and SQL Server 2005. I will get the huge size xml from the web service. I need to load this xml to sql server 2005 table as records.
I got below solution from microsoft site. Load XML to Dataset and from Dataset to SQL Server 2005.
Note   If you call ReadXml to load a very large file, you may encounter slow performance. To ensure best performance for ReadXml, on a large file, call the DataTable.BeginLoadData method for each table in the DataSet, then call ReadXml. Finally, call DataTable.EndLoadData for each table in the DataSet.
Any other better solution is there to load huge XML to SQL server 2005?

Loading SP 5a Dump Onto Server Running SP 4

I looked for an answer in the archives and could not find one.
Does anyone know if it is ok or works loading a database dump
from one SQL server running SP 5a (production server) onto another SQL server running SP 3 (backup server)? We were not planning to upgrade our production and backup servers simultaneously unless there would be a problem loading the
database dumps.

Thanks you in advance.

Loading Transaction Logs From One Server To Another

May 14, 1999

I am trying to setup 2 SQL servers (ver 6.5) - A live server and a standby server. The plan is to have regular transaction logs dumps from the Live server databases to the standby server and then have these logs automatically applied.

I have managed to get the logs dumping automatically but when I tried to apply them I keep getting synchronisation/sequence errors.

Has anyone done/tried anything similar. Any advice on this would be very useful.

Thanks
Samir

P.S I can't do this via replications as most tables in the database do not have primary keys.

SQL Server Destination Not Loading All Rows

Jan 23, 2008

I have a SSIS package that transfers data from three SQL Server 7 servers to a SQL Server 2005 database. This package has about 30 different tables it copies. The table structures in the source database and destination tables are identical. About 25 different tables load without any issues. I have about 5 tables that load some nights without a problem. On other nights, the data transfers seem to randomly (though usually the most recent records) ignore some of the data. I have logging turned on and receive no errors. It just appears to stop loading data.

I should also mention that I truncate each destination table before begining and each table is loaded from data from each of the 13 source database (I am combining data from 13 regional database for reporting purposes). This is done using a Foreach Loop Container that updates the Server/Region connection string for each region. I am using the OLE DB Source connection to the SQL Server Destination. I have tried as well with the OLE DB Destination with the same result (and no error). I do not do any manipulation to the data on the transfer, but added a "RowCount" transformation between the source and destination and it gives the correct number of rows, but not all the rows get loaded.

Loading Multiple XML Files Into SQL Server

Sep 8, 2006

I'm using the For Each loop container to load multiple XML data files into SQL Server, and noticing some peculiar behavior and need some advice.

The pattern I'm trying to accomplish is this: Iterate over a collection of XML files in a specific folder, loading each in turn into SQL Server. If the file has already been loaded, delete the records first before the load. After the load succeeds, move the file into an Archive folder.

To accomplish this, I've set up a For Eac Loop container using the For Each File enumerator, and retrieve just the file name and extension into a variable. The first task in this is an Execute SQL task that uses a SQL DML statement to delete records based on a field in the table containing the file name (DELETE FROM table WHERE PROG_NAME = ?), and map a variable to the parameter. The next task is the data flow task that uses an XML source using the variable as the file name, and SQL Server destination. I use a derived column task in between to plug the variable holding the file name into the PROG_NAME field. So far, so good. This works.

But now comes the peculiar part. I initially had the XSD files in the same folder as the XML files, but wanted to put them in their own directory, so moved them, and made the change to the XML source adapter for the new path to the XSD file. The next time I ran my package, it failed. For some reason, as the For Each Loop tried to iterate over the directory, it was using the XSD path assigned in the XML source instead of the path for the XML files. Unusual...

My question is, why when choosing the File name & Extension retrieval type (as opposed to the fully qualified name) will the task try to use the XSD location to find the files? Is my variable getting reassigned somewhere?

Loading Data In SQL Server To Related Tables (how)

Jul 14, 2004

Hi I have a question how to load data to tables linked by Foreign Keys in MSDE/SQL server. Example:
If I have 2 tables linked (by Foreign Key):
One table:

ITEM idITEM NAMEITEM CATEGORY (FK)
1cheese 2

And another:

Category IDCATEGORY NAME
1 household
2 food
3 general

How do I enter the load of data
Do I have to enter it as
1cheese2
or is there some way of entering it as
1cheesefood

TDS wizard does not allow me to transfer to views/querries what I thought would be a normal way as I would enter data to view(relevant to Access's form) and it would update related tables . When I wrote sql to do it it said I can not update my view table as too many tables would be affected(I had lookup tables empty then though)
I am doing it by number using TDS wizard to transfer it directly to the main table but there must be a better way

SQL Server 2008 :: Error Loading A Query Into DTA

Nov 12, 2012

I am trying to look into a query thats taking 5 mins to execute on our production. Its an LinQ generated 6000 Line SQL query that the dev team is trying to put into production without any testing. They want me to add indexes to the database( brand new) so that the query will run fast. The execution plan really looks weird. So Just as a starter I tried to tune it using the DTA and I am getting the below error. I am using a .sql query file as the input.

The minimum storage space required for the selected physical design structures exceeds the default storage space selected by Database Engine Tuning Advisor. Either keep fewer physical design structures, or increase the default storage space to be larger than at least 441 MB.Use one of the following methods to increase storage space: (1) If you are using the graphical user interface, enter the required value for Define max. space for recommendations (MB) in the Advanced Options of the Tuning Options tabbed page; (2) If you are using dta.exe, specify the maximum space value for the -B argument; (3) If you are using an XML input file, specify the maximum space value for the <StorageBoundInMB> element under <Tuning Options>

My question is what value is the maximum value that I should consider adding per recommendation (2) in the above error.

JDBC - How Robust? Loading ResultSet Into SQL SERVER Table

Apr 24, 2008

I have a program that I'm working on that utilizes a JDBC connection to a SQL 2005 server. A result set is generated from a legacy system. The data that is pulled into this result set is in the same layout as a table in SQL 2005 server.

My question is, once I have good data loaded into the ResultSet object can I pass it to the JDBC to load it into the table?

Or do I have to use the ResultSet.get(string) to pull out each value row by row, populate a string, and then use the string in an insert statement that I pass to JDBC?

Are there tricks or optimizations I can do for this type of JDBC transfer?

--Thanks--

Errors Loading A Text File Into A Sql Server Destination

Apr 24, 2006

I am trying to load 14+ million rows from a text file into local Sql Server. I tried using Sql Server destination because it seemed to be faster, but after about 5 million rows it would always fail. See various errors below which I received while trying different variations of FirstRow/LastRow, Timeout, Table lock etc. After spending two days trying to get it to work, I switched to OLE DB Destination and it worked fine. I would like to get the Sql Server Destination working because it seems much faster, but the error messages aren't much help. Any ideas on how to fix?

Also, when I wanted to try just loading a small sample by specifying first row/last row, it would get to the upper limit and then picked up speed and looked like it kept on reading rows of the source file until it failed. I expected it to just reach the limit I set and then stop processing.
