Hi all,
I wanted to ask...if there is someone who worked with pl/sql developer as well...then i wanted to know how can i TEST in the sql server like we do in the PL/SQL developer using the STEP IN we can test our procedure step by step...so how can i do the same thing in sql server?????
or generally also,if someone knows how can i execute a procedure without using the execute command...so,that i can put values first by using like EXECUTE STORED PROCEDURE or anything n then watching it how is it going step by step????????

Tracing Or Debugging A Procedure

I have a very simple piece of code (see below) which when executed sometimes takes around 7 minutes and sometimes around 3.5 hours. the difference is that during the 3.5 hours there is a lot of querying of the table being updated. But I don't know how to find out if this is the case. How can I find out whether my process is waiting (for locks or for any other reason) - is there a trace or debug facility within the tandard Microsoft Toolset which I can use.

Stored Procedure Debugging - HOW!

I've got a stored procedure which does a database search for me. It is working fine, but for some reason it isn't finding what I expect. I think the problem is that the vairables are not being passed as I expect but I cannot work out how to see the intermediate SQL in the stored proc... in oracle there used to be some sort of set feedback on option which meant that all SQL which was being run was shown... is there some way of doing this in SQL Server 2005?

I'm using SQL Server 2005 Express and I need to debug my stored prodedure. I've been reading online that it can be done in the Express edition but no one explains how to do it. There's plenty of instructions online on how to debug stored procedure in the other versions of SQL Server 2005. Do any of you know how to do it?

In .Net, idea is to log in files durring application is running.
What is the approch to do that with SQL ? any loggin ?

When Debugging, Do You Have To Shut Down And Restart BIDS Every Time You Rebuild The Custom Component That You're Debugging?

Hi,

I have found that when I'm debugging a custom component in BIDS that I've created in another instance of Visual Studio, every time I rebuild the component I have to shutdown and restart BIDS and then reattach to the BIDS process. Which is pretty time consuming... And if I find a small error in my custom component when debugging then I don't seem to be allowed to make any changes to the code unless I stop debugging and go through the process above.

Am I missing something here? Or do I really have to manually go through these steps every time I want to change code in the component I'm debugging?

Can I automate the process with MSBuild or NAnt? If so, is there an example of this anywhere?

To the Moderator:

I am not sure if this thread needs to go into this forum or there is one for C# stored procedures/CLR Database Objects.

To All:

Is this a known issue that when debugging CLR stored procedures the VS 2005 freezes even before reaching into the stored procedure? I can restart my computer and debugging works for a while and then it starts to take forever when I step into (F10) during debugging. I am running only one instance of sql server, and even that of my local machine as I have never been able to debug on a remote server.

This random and unstable behavior of the debugger is proving very unproductive and costly. Is there a microsoft update/fix/patch to make debugging CLR stored procedures a smooth process?

Help! Debugging Stored Procedure From Query Analyser - Step Through Disabled

Can anybody explain how to do debug a stored procedure from SQL Query Analyser.

When i tried opening Query Analyser and pressing F8 i am able to see Object Browser on left side, i selected the d/b and expanded it then i selected a stored procdure by right click of mouse. I selected "Debug".

It shows me alert msg "SQL Debugging may not work properly if you log on as 'Local System Account' while SQl server is configured to run as a service. You can open Event Viewer to see details." DO U WISH TO CONTINUE- I selected "YES"

I am able to see 3 split windows on right side and GO, Toggle, Untoggle are enabled BUT Step Into, Step Over, Step Out...Stop debugging are disabled at menu bar.

The 1st right split window shows the proc code, 2nd split window shows Local-Global-Callstack none of them shows any values(blank), 3rd split window shows records(result) and
@RETURN_VALUE = 0 message

I had Toggled at each and every line of the procedure in 1st split window still it doesnt respond anything.

What might be the problem, how to solve it do i need to give any permissions.

i tried logging from wind Authentication and also from Sql Authentication (sa/sa), still same problem occurs. By the way i am using SQL Server 2000.

Pls help me out

User 'Unknown User' Could Not Execute Stored Procedure - Debugging Stored Procedure Using Visual Studio .net

Hi all,



I am trying to debug stored procedure using visual studio. I right click on connection and checked 'Allow SQL/CLR debugging' .. the store procedure is not local and is on sql server.



Whenever I tried to right click stored procedure and select step into store procedure> i get following error



"User 'Unknown user' could not execute stored procedure 'master.dbo.sp_enable_sql_debug' on SQL server XXXXX. Click Help for more information"



I am not sure what needs to be done on sql server side



We tried to search for sp_enable_sql_debug but I could not find this stored procedure under master.

Some web page I came accross says that "I must have an administratorial rights to debug" but I am not sure what does that mean?



Please advise..

VMD / SQLServer 2005 Express Stored Procedure

I am building a Visual Web Developer site with a SQL Server 2005 Express backend. I am trying to create the login page, I have written a stored procedure that takes in the username and password and returns a value which indicates whether the user is valid or not.
My problem now is integrating this stored procedure into the page. In Visual Studio 2003 you could just drag and drop the stored procedure from the Database Explorer window and it would create the neccessary SQLCommand which you can then pass parameters too and recieve return values, i.e:
 
sqlcommand1.Paramters[ "@username" ].value = TextUsername.Text;
sqlcommand1.Paramters[ "@password" ].value = TextPassword.Text;
sqlConnection1.Open();
sqlCommand1.ExecuteNonQuery();
Int Result = (int)sqlcommand.Parameters["@returnvalue"].value;
sqlConnection1.Close();
 
I see in VWD there are SqlDataSource's etc, is this what I need to use to do what I'm looking for and how do they exactly work? Ideally what I'm looking for is when a user clicks login, the contents of the 'username' and 'password' text boxes are queried against the database. What controls and configuration is required to achieve this?

Class Method Is Smoking Fast When Executed Outside Of SQLServer, Dog Slow As A CLR Function Is SQLServer - Anyone?

We have a static class that makes an HTTPWebRequest to get XML data from one of our vendors. We use this as input to a stored proc in SQLServer2005. When I compile this class and call it from a console application in visual studio it executes in milliseconds, everytime. When I compile it, create the assembly and clr function and execute it in SQLServer, it takes around 14 seconds to execute the first time, then on subsequent requests it is again really fast, until I wait for 10 seconds and re-execute, once again it is slow the first time and then fast on subsequent requests. We do not see this behavior when executing outside SQLServer. Makes me think that some sort of authentication is perhaps taking place the first time the function is run in SQLServer? I have no idea how to debug this further. Anyone seen this before or have any ideas?

Problem Unicode Data 0x2300 In SQLServer 2000 SQLServer 2005 Express

Hi experts;
I have a problem with unicode character 0x2300
I created this table
create table testunicode (Bez nchar(128))

Insert Data
insert into testunicode (Bez)values('Œ€„¢')
with 2 Unicode characters
Œ€ = 0x2300
„¢ = 0x2122

Selecting the data
select Bez from testunicode
I see
"?„¢"

„¢ = 0x2122 is ok but instead of 0x2300 there is 0x3f

When I modify the insert statement like that ( 8960 = 0x2300 )
insert into testunicode (Bez)values(NCHAR(8960)+'„¢')

and select again voila i see
"Œ€„¢"
Does anyone have an idea?

Trying To 'load' A Copy Of A SQLServer 2000 Database To SQLServer 2005 Express

I am trying to 'load' a copy of a SQLServer 2000 database to SQLServer 2005 Express (on another host). The copy was provided by someone else - it came to me as a MDF file only, no LDF file.

I have tried to Attach the database and it fails with a failure to load the LDF. Is there any way to bypass this issue without the LDF or do I have to have that?

The provider of the database says I can create a new database and just point to the MDF as the data source but I can't seem to find a way to do that? I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express.

Replacing Sqlserver 2000 With Sqlserver 2005 Express

I have an app that uses a sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to connect to a sqlserver 2000.

Is it possible to do a direct replacement of sqlserver 2000 with sqlserver 2005 express just by reconfiguring the app to point to the express? The app would still be using the sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to try and make the connection.

If that is a possibility, what can be some differences in the configuration? Previously with 2000 the config information I entered is:

server name: "machinename"( or ip). I've also tried "machiname/SQLEXPRESS"

DB name: name of db instance

port: 1433(default)

user and pass.

My attempts so far results in

"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Error establishing socket."

and

"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Unable to connect. Invalid URL."

SQLSERVER 2005 X64 Linked Server To SQLSERVER 7.0

Hello people.

I am in the process of planning a server upgrade to sql2005 x64.

I created 2 linked servers: one to a SQL2000 sp4 server and one to a SQL7.0 SP3.

I have the following error when I query the linked servers.
OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K" returned message "Unspecified error".
OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K" returned message "The stored procedure required to complete this operation could not be found on the server. Please contact your system administrator.".
Msg 7311, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Cannot obtain the schema rowset "DBSCHEMA_TABLES_INFO" for OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K". The provider supports the interface, but returns a failure code when it is used.

I am aware of KB 906954.

I applied the instcat.sql on the SQL2000SP4 server and my linked server issues for that one are gone.

However, I ran the instcat.sql script on the SQL7.0 sp3 server and the linked server is still giving me an issue.

Hello Expert!

I have 2 Database €“ Access & SQLServer(ver 7)

I need to Import Data TblShift from Access to SQLServer €“ using DTS I€™ve done this successfully!

Now I want to use parameter so I only importing record within range (e.g. ShiftDate BETWEEN 05-24-2006 AND 06-23-2006)

In SQLServer, I have created table to store the date range as following:

TblParameter
DateFrom: 04/24/2006
DateTo: 05/23/2006

How do I use the date range from TblParameter(SQLServer) to import record from TblShift(Access) using DTS?

Is this possible or any better solution for this?

Hi.

I need to step into a SP on my SQL server. However, I get "Security hasn't been setup correctly on server RADU. SQL debugging terminated."

I read the docs, and I did exactly this (as per the help files):

To configure DCOM on the server for SQL debugging

You may need to download and install DCOM first. If so, go to http://www.microsoft.com/com/resources/downloads.asp for the latest version.

You must have administrator privileges on the machine where you are configuring DCOM.

From the Start menu, choose Run.
In the Open box, type dcomcnfg.exe.
Click OK.
The Component Services dialog box appears.

In the left pane of the Component Services dialog box, expand the Component Services node and find Computers.
Expand the Computers node and find the computer for which you want to configure DCOM.
Right-click the computer and choose Properties from the shortcut menu.
In the Properties dialog box, select the Default COM Security tab.
Under Access Permissions, click Edit Default.
The Access Permission dialog box appears.

If the group or user who needs access does not appear in the list of permissions, click Add.
The Users, Computers, or Groups dialog box appears.

In the Enter the object names to select box, type the name of the group or user who needs access.
Click OK.
The user is now added to the list.

If SYSTEM does not appear in the list of permissions, click Add.
The Users, Computers, or Groups dialog box appears.

However, from inside VSnet IDE. I get the same message ("Security hasn't been setup correctly blah-blah-blah").

I have tried with users 'ASPNet' and 'VSDevelopers'. Which user should I choose ? Is there something else I should do ?

Sure, this is not the end of the world, I can still do the debug from within Query Analyzer, but still, it would be nice not to have to do this.

Does anyone use SQL debugging? I write pocedures in SQL server useing Developper studio, but i do not find any means to debug stored procedures.
Though i can place a break point to source code of sp_procedure, code is runned a whole.
Is this means only for C++?
Can anyone help me?
I have very large procedures and someteimes it is hard to find an error.
