Calling A Stored Procedure From ADO.NET 2.0-VB 2005 Express: Working With SELECT Statements In The Stored Procedure-4 Errors?

I executed the above code and I got the following 4 errors:
Error #1: Type 'SqlConnection' is not defined (in Form1.vb)
Error #2: Type 'SqlDataAdapter' is not defined (in Form1.vb)
Error #3: Array bounds cannot appear in type specifiers (in Form1.vb)
Error #4: 'DataSet' is not a type and cannot be used as an expression (in Form1)
Please help and advise.

More Information for you to know:
I have the "ssmsExpressDB" database in the Database Expolorer of VB 2005 Express. But I do not know how to get the SqlConnection and the SqlDataAdapter into the Form1. I do not know how to get the Fill Method implemented properly.
I try to learn "Working with SELECT Statement in a Stored Procedure" for printing the 6 rows that are selected - they are not parameterized.

Please i need some help.
I am calling a stored procedure from asp.net and there is a
cursor in the stored procedure that does some processing on serval
tables.
if i run the stored procedure on Query Analyzer it works and does what
it is suppose to do but if i run it from my asp.net/module control it
goes. acts likes it worked but it does not do what is suppose to do.
i believe the cursor in the stroed procedure does not run where is
called programmatically from the asp.net/module control page.plus it
does not throw any errors

Remote Procedure Is Not Working
Jul 28, 1999Hi We have SQL6.5 servers with serpack3. I have registered the remote sql servers on both sqlservers. I have login name as same and trusted.(by the way I did this through GUI)
when I run a remote procedure it comes and tell me

in some servers I did the same configuration it works fine.

Alter Procedure Not Working

we use alter statements for our stored procedures when rolling out a new version of our app. We have noticed that when viewing the stored proc in production it looks like the altered one, but when the app runs it, the changes are not taking effect. Has any one else experienced anything like this? It's like the old version is still being held on too.
To get around the problem we have been dropping and recreating the procedures.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Set Identity Not Working For Stored Procedure
Jan 31, 2008Hi can someone tell me whats wrong with this stored procedure. All im trying to do is get the publicationID from the publication table in order to use it for an insert statement into another table. The second table PublicaitonFile has the publicaitonID as a foriegn key.
Stored procedure error: cannot insert null into column publicationID, table PublicationFile - its obviously not getting the ID.

Simple Stored Procedure Not Working
Jul 14, 2005I have a SP below that authenticates users, the problem I have is that activate is of type BIT and I can set it to 1 or 0.
If I set it to 0 which is disabled, the user can still login.
Therefore I want users that have activate as 1 to be able to login and users with activate as 0 not to login
what are mine doing wrong ?

Stored Procedure Stops Working
Jun 1, 1999I have a stored procedure which does a simple select joining 3 tables.
This had been working fine for weeks and then just stopped returning any rows even though data existed for it to return.
After re-compiling the procedure, it worked fine as before.
Does anyone know of any reason why a procedure would need recompiling like this?
We have been doing data restores and also dropping/recreating tables during this development. Would any of this affect a procedure?

Update Stored Procedure Not Working When Called From C#
Jul 11, 2007OK, I have been raking my brains with this and no solution yet. I simply want to update a field in a table given the record Id. When I try the SQL in standalone (no sp) it works and the field gets updated. When I do it by executing the stored procedure from a query window in the Express 2005 manager it works well too. When I use the stored procedure from C# then it does not work:
1. ExecuteNonQuery() always returns -1 2. When retrieving the @RETURN_VALUE parameter I get -2, meaning that the SP did not find a matching record.
So, with #1 there is definitely something wrong as I would expect ExecuteNonQuery to return something meaningful and with #2 definitely strange as I am able to execute the same SQL code with those parameters from the manager and get the expected results.

As I said when I execute standalone UPDATE works fine, but when approaching it via C# it returns -2 (did not find Id).

Executing A Job From A Stored Procedure Stopped Working

I've got a stored procedure in database A that calls the sp_start_job stored procedure in msdb as follows:

The domainusername is the in the database sysadmin role and the owner of the job. To make this work originally, I had to change the msdb database to be trusted.
This worked for the past several months.
Now it doesn't work (perhaps after a reboot but not sure). The error I get is "The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object 'sp_start_job', database 'msdb', schema 'dbo'
I looked to make sure that the account had grant execute rights and it does. I tried setting it via GRANT statement and it was granted successfully yet the error still occurs. I've tried changing accounts and anything else I can think of to no avail.
Any ideas how to troubleshoot this issue. I've tried all the tricks I can think of.

Stored Procedure Where Clause Not Working Properly
May 24, 2008I am having a problem with this stored procedure. I'm using SQL Server 2005 Developer's edition and if I execute the procedure in a query window, I get no errors. Also, when the script runs from a website call there are no errors. The problem is that it doesn't return the information that is in the database. It is supposed to return the orders from Washington state between such and such dates. The orders are there in the database, so I think the where clause must be wrong.

Stored Procedure Edit Process Not Working In VS2003 C# .Net
Aug 21, 2005I am trying to follow an exercise for debugging a stored procedure in the .net IDE. I have had success in adding a connection to the application, until I get the point of where I should set a BreakPoint in the stored procedure "Ten Most Expensive Products" which belongs to the Northwind database. When I open Sever Explorer -->Data Connections- ->WI0001.NorthWind.dbo-->Stored Procedures and Right-click the procedure, the context menu does not give me an edit item to select to open this SP in the editor. Nor can I double-click on the stored procedure to open it either.

Working In A Stored Procedure's Result Set In MSSQL 2000 (eg.: Selecting From)

My main goal would be to create some kind of map of the database, wich contains information of all connecting fields, including wich fields has key references to the other one and wich table. I'd like to have a table wich shows all the database connections tablename, field, field/table_key (from or to the key points), field_key_type (prymary or foreign)
So I thaugh to get sp_fkeys and sp_pkeys from master table and inner joining their results, but I simplay cannot "catch" their result sets. The script must have been written in SQL.
Obviously I'd like to do this:
SELECT * FROM EXEC sp_fkeys @table_name = 'xy'
of course it is not working this way, but I'd like something like this.

Iam using 'Execute SQl task' which calls a stored procedure located in sql server database.The task's SQL source type is variable and the variable has the follwoing expression "EXEC PROC_SEL_MBO_REPORT "+@[User::V_SP_Job_Date]after evaluation it is like EXEC PROC_SEL_MBO_REPORT '01/NOV/2007'.It is working fine
Now the procedure is changed to Oracle.So I have changed it to "BEGIN PROC_SEL_MBO_REPORT " + "("+ @[User::V_SP_Job_Date]+")"+"; END"+";" after evaluation it is like BEGIN PROC_SEL_MBO_REPORT ('01/NOV/2007') END;.It is sucessfully executing from the task but no data is loaded into the tables which are used by the procedure internally.
Executing 'execute BEGIN PROC_SEL_MBO_REPORT ('01/NOV/2007') END;' is perfectly alright from SQl developer or sql plus.

Some Things Not Working In 2005 And Working In 2000

I had a view in which I did something like this
isnull(fld,val) as 'alias'
when I assign a value to this in the client (vb 6.0) it works ok in sql2000 but fails in 2005.
When I change the query to fld as 'alias' then it works ok in sql 2005 .
why ?? I still have sql 2000 (8.0) compatability.
Also some queries which are pretty badly written run on sql 2000 but dont run at all in sql 2005 ???
any clues or answers ?? it is some configuration issue ?

ExecuteNonQuery - Add Working/Update Not Working
Jan 7, 2004I am writing a pgm that attaches to a SQL Server database. I have an Add stored procedure and an Update stored procedure. The two are almost identical, except for a couple parameters. However, the Add function works and the Update does not. Can anyone see why? I can't seem to find what the problem is...
This was my test:

When I use the Add procedure, a record is added correctly and I receive the "done" message. When I use the Update procedure, the record is not updated, but I still receive the "done" message.
I have looked at the stored procedures and the syntax is correct according to SQL Server.
Please I would appreciate any advice...
WHERE NOT IN Not Working
Feb 23, 2008Original suggestion for my problem was - Select * from TableA where ID not in ( Select ID from TableB)
When I run the query below using the IN operator I get 227 records returned but when I use NOT IN I get zero records when I expect well over 10,000. What am I missing?

Why Is This Not Working

I think im missing something here, i just cant find out what it is.
I have a temp table:

I need to get the tempID from the tempSearch table in order to compare it with @first_id
When i run this i get the same username repeated like 30 times then it moves over to the next, when i debug the #tempSearch it looks fine, just the users that are suppose to be there.

My problems is that it doesn't generate the tables and I am following the SQLXML2.0 documentation as closely as possible.
Does anyone know what I have to do to get it to generate the tables? Running it doesn't even produce an error.

/3GB Not Working

I am on a box with 4 GB of memory that only runs SQL Server. SQL Server is using 1.7 GB as per task manager. There are a lot of databases on this box. I looked at the boot.ini and /3GB was not set. I have done this at least 50 times before: turn on the /3GB switch and SQL Server will use up to 2.7 GB per task manager. (I know it is actually 2GB and 3GB but it seems that in task manager it shows up as 1.7-1.8 and 2.7-2.8)
Anyway back to the story. So I set /3GB, rebooted the server and SQL Server still only consumes up to 1.7GB. I realize that SQL Server might not actually need more memory, but I have a distinct feeling that it wants more but is being constrained; that is, the the /3GB switch is not working. More relevant information:
1) the boot.ini line:

2) max server memory (MB) = 3000
3) min server memory (MB) = 3000
4) awe enabled = 0

Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this?
