Transaction Log Restore Procedure

Oct 18, 2007

Hi

We have a database on sqlserver 2005 on a schedule for transaction log backups is in place already which is happening at interval of 30mins.All these transaction logs are appended to file called 'BKP' on E drive of our server. Now i have to configure logshipping for this database.Normally logshipping process will backup the transaction log,stores it in a shared folder on primary server and then copies the backupfile to another folder on secondary server and then restored ..plz correct me till now if im wrong.Now let us say our normal trans log backup schedule is as follows
T1 at 9.30am
T2 at 10.00am
T3 at 10.30am
T4 at 11.00 am
Now i decided to schedule the log shipping transaction log backup interval once in 30mins and start transaction log backup at following intervals
T11 AT 9.45am
T22 AT 10.15AM
T33 at 10.45AM
T44 AT 11.15AM
So T11,T22 etc these backups are restored on standby server sequentially.

Now if Primary database goes down at 11.25am , then do i have to restore the Tlogs T1,T2,T3,T4 and make the Primary database up or i should restore T1,T11,T2,T22,T3,T33,T4,T44 for making my primary database UP..

Backup/Restore Stored Procedure

Oct 5, 2006

Hi there

I just want to create Stored Procedure which will do following thing

i) Create a text file, which will have a Schema Script(including all the constraint & others, for a database(by passing Parameter)

ii) the same file must also have, all the data from the selected database tables,in again plain text format (could be CSV, or Tab SV, etc...)

I mean to say, the file should be act as the full backup of database, in plain text.

The same need to be done in the reverse order,this SP will do following things

i)Open the file created by first SP, create new database, with same name as backup in SP one

ii) create the tables, by reading the Schema script.

iii) Insert all the data in corrsponding tables.

For EX:

--creating backup

sp_CreateDatbaseBackup('DatabaseName')

--Restoring

sp_RestoreDatabaseBackup('FileName')

I know abou the Backup & restore in SQL Server 2005, but they gives me backup as .bkp file which is not editable. I too cant use the SSIS(just only SPs)

I want an editable full Backup and Restore.

Please help me in creating these SPs or any other idea, solution ?

OR

any other FREE third party tool which will make the Full database backup & restore in one go & in plain text file.

Regards,

Thanks.

Transact SQL :: Backup / Restore Tools Which Can Restore Multiple Environments

Jun 25, 2015

I am looking for a SQL Backup/Restore tools which can restore multiple environments.  Here is high level requirements.

1.  We have 4 DBs, range from 1 TB - 1.5 TB Each Database.  When we restore to QA, DEV, or Staging, we usually restore 4 of them.
2.  I am looking for the speed to complete restoring between 1 - 2 hours for 4 DBs.

I am evaluating the Dephix Software but the setup is very complex and its given us a lot of issues with Windows Authentions, and failure in the middle of the backup.  I used Guess Software many years ago but can't find it on the web site any more. Speed is very important for us mean complete restoring as fast as possible.  We are on SQL 2012 and SQL 2008 R2.We are currently using NETAPP Technology and I have Redgate Backup Tool but I am mainly looking for fast Restore Process.

RESTORE Database - Database In Use, Restore Fails

Nov 19, 1999

11/19

Trying to keep out sysadmins & sa during/between database RESTORE

Configuration:
WINNT Server Enterprise 4.0 w/SP5
SQL Server 7 Enterprise & SP1

2 SQL Servers:
Production Server
Standby server

I Backup (full backup) databases to disk on primary server (logical backup devices are physicaly located on a Standby server (dedicated gigabit NIC in each server for this process). Transaction logs are applied to the Standby server throughout the day.

Problem:
How to keep out "sa" and sysadmins from a database while I'm restoring (or between restores) to a standby server?
The database being restored cannot be in use during a restore.
If a DBA forgets that this process is happening, the statement fails (RESTORE)for the database they happen to be in at the time of the restore.

Example restore statement:
Standby Server -
RESTORE DATABASE databasename FROM database_dd WITH DBO_ONLY, REPLACE, STANDBY = 'g:Mssql7FromPrimaryDatabaseName_undo.ldf'

I could restrict Domain sysadmin access and change sa password. I could also put the database in "Single user" mode, however this could become problem if my process disconnects and then someone else connects - then my process is locked out. What I'm really looking for is to lock out all activity for a database that is in "standby mode" except for RESTORE processes.

Any ideas??

The Old Inability To Toggle/change/switch Between ALTER PROCEDURE &<---&> CREATE PROCEDURE Bug (or Is It A Feature?)

Apr 1, 2007

Keep in mind this is my first compiled SQL program Stored Procedure(SP), copied from a book by Frasier Visual C++.NET in Visual Studio2005 (Chap12). So far, so theory, except for one bug (feature?)below. At some point I'm sure I'll be able to laugh about this, akinto forgeting a semi-colon in C/C++, but right now it's frustrating(time to sleep on it for a while).Problem--For some reason I get the error when trying to save files where twotables (called Author and Content), linked by a single key, form arelationship.By simple comparison of the source code in the textbook and my program(below) I found the difference: instead of, like in the textbook, theStored Procedure (SP) starting with "CREATE PROCEDURE", it*automatically* is (was somehow) given the name of 'ALTER PROCEDURE'and I cannot change this to "CREATE PROCEDURE" (you get an error in MSVisual Studio 2005 Pro edition of "There is already an object namedXXX in the database", see *|* below). No matter what I do, the SP isalways changed by Visual Studio 2005 to 'ALTER PROCEDURE'!!!(otherwise it simply will not save)Anybody else have this happen? (See below, others have had this happenover the years but it's not clear what the workaround is)Keep in mind this is my first attempt and I have ordered somespecialized books on SQL, but if this is a common problem (and Isuspect it's some sort of bug or quirk in VS2005), please let me know.Frankly I think SQL as done by VS2005 is messed up.Here are two Usenet threads on this problem:(1) http://tinyurl.com/2o956m or,http://groups.google.com/group/micr...1454182ae77d409(2) http://tinyurl.com/2ovybv or,http://groups.google.com/group/micr...9e5428bf0525889The second thread implies this is a bug--any fix?Also this bug might be relate to the fact I've switched (and notrebooted) from Administrator to PowerUser after successfully changingthe permissions in the SQL Server Management Studio Express (see thisthread: http://tinyurl.com/2o5yqa )Regarding this problem I might try again tommorrow to see if rebootinghelps.BTW, in the event I can't get this to work, what other SQL editor/compiler should I use besides MS Visual Studio 2005 for ADO.NET andSQL dB development?RL// source files// error message:'Authors' table saved successfully'Content' table- Unable to create relationship 'FK_Content_Authors'.The ALTER TABLE statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint"FK_Content_Authors". Gridview / SqlDataSource Error - Procedure Or Function &<stored Procedure Name&> Has Too Many Arguments Specified.

Jan 19, 2007

Can someone help me with this issue? I am trying to update a record using a sp. The db table has an identity column. I seem to have set up everything correctly for Gridview and SqlDataSource but have no clue where my additional, phanton arguments are being generated. If I specify a custom statement rather than the stored procedure  in the Data Source configuration wizard I have no problem. But if I use a stored procedure I keep getting the error "Procedure or function <sp name> has too many arguments specified." But thing is, I didn't specify too many parameters, I specified exactly the number of parameters there are. I read through some posts and saw that the gridview datakey fields are automatically passed as parameters, but when I eliminate the ID parameter from the sp, from the SqlDataSource parameters list, or from both (ID is the datakey field for the gridview) and pray that .net somehow knows which record to update -- I still get the error. I'd like a simple solution, please, as I'm really new to this. What is wrong with this picture? Thank you very much for any light you can shed on this.

SQL Server 2012 :: CLR Procedure Takes Ages To Pass TVP To Stored Procedure?

Jan 21, 2014

On SQL 2012 (64bit) I have a CLR stored procedure that calls another, T-SQL stored procedure.

The CLR procedure passes a sizeable amount of data via a user defined table type resp.table values parameter. It passes about 12,000 rows with 3 columns each.

For some reason the call of the procedure is verz very slow. I mean just the call, not the procedure.

I changed the procdure to do nothing (return 1 in first line).

So with all parameters set from

command.ExecuteNonQuery()to
create proc usp_Proc1
@myTable myTable read only
begin
return 1
end

it takes 8 seconds.I measured all other steps (creating the data table in CLR, creating the SQL Param, adding it to the command, executing the stored procedure) and all of them work fine and very fast.

When I trace the procedure call in SQL Profiler I get a line like this for each line of the data table (12,000)

SP:StmtCompleted -- Encrypted Text.

As I said, not the procedure or the creation of the data table takes so long, really only the passing of the data table to the procedure.

Procedure Or Function 'stored Procedure Name' Expects Parameter Which Was Not Supplied

Mar 26, 2007

Has anyone encountered this before?
Procedure or Function 'stored procedure name' expects parameter '@parameter', which was not supplied.
It seems that my code is not passing the parameter to the stored procedure.
When I click this hyperlink:
<asp:HyperLink
ID="HyperLink1"
Runat="server"
NavigateUrl='<%# "../Division.aspx?CountryID=" + Eval("CountryID")%>'
Text='<%# Eval("Name") %>'
ToolTip='<%# Eval("Description") %>'
CssClass='<%# Eval("CountryID").ToString() == Request.QueryString["CountryID"] ? "CountrySelected" : "CountryUnselected" %>'>
</asp:HyperLink>
it is suppose to get the country name and description, based on the country id.
I am passing the country id like this.
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
PopulateControls();
}
private void PopulateControls()
{
string countryId = Request.QueryString["CountryID"];
if (countryId != null)
{
CountryDetails cd = DivisionAccess.GetCountryDetails(countryId);
divisionNameLabel.Text = cd.Name;
divisionDescriptionLabel.Text = cd.Description;
}
}
To my app code like this:
public struct CountryDetails
{
public string Name;
public string Description;
}
public static class DivisionAccess
{
static DivisionAccess()
public static DataTable GetCountry()
{
DbCommand comm = GenericDataAccess.CreateCommand();
comm.CommandText = "GetCountry";
return GenericDataAccess.ExecuteSelectCommand(comm);
}
public static CountryDetails GetCountryDetails(string cId)
{
DbCommand comm = GenericDataAccess.CreateCommand();
comm.CommandText = "GetCountryDetails";
DbParameter param = comm.CreateParameter();
param.ParameterName = "@CountryID";
param.Value = 2;
param.DbType = DbType.Int32;
comm.Parameters.Add(param);
DataTable table = GenericDataAccess.ExecuteSelectCommand(comm);
CountryDetails details = new CountryDetails();
if (table.Rows.Count > 0)
{
details.Name = table.Rows[0]["Name"].ToString();
details.Description = table.Rows[0]["Description"].ToString();
}
return details;
}

As you can see I have two stored procedures I am calling, one does not have a parameter and the other does. The getcountry stored procedure returns the list of countries in a menu that I can click to see the details of that country. That is where my problem is when I click the country name I get
Procedure or Function 'GetCountryDetails' expects parameter '@CountryID', which was not supplied
Someone please help!

(Could Not Find Stored Procedure ''.) When Calling A User Defined Procedure

Feb 4, 2008

Hi,I'm tring to call a stored procedure i'v made from a DNN module, via .net control.When I try to execute this sql statement: EXEC my_proc_name 'prm_1', 'prm_2', ... the system displays this error: Could not find stored procedure ''. (including the trailings [".] chars :)I've tried to run the EXEC statement from SqlServerManagement Studio, and seems to works fine, but sometimes it displays the same error. So i've added the dbname and dbowner as prefix to my procedure name in the exec statement and then in SqlSrv ManStudio ALWAYS works, but in dnn it NEVER worked... Why? I think it could be a db permission problem but i'm not able to fix this trouble, since i'm not a db specialist and i don't know which contraint could give this problem. Also i've set to the ASPNET user the execute permissions for my procedure... nothing changes :( Shoud someone could help me? Note that I'm using a SqlDataSource object running the statement with the select() method (and by setting the appropriate SelectCommandType = SqlDataSourceCommandType.StoredProcedure ) and I'm using the 2005 sql server express Thank in advance,(/d

Stored Procedure In Query Analyzer Vs Linked Procedure In MS Access

Jan 12, 2007

For some reason, I run a stored procedure in Query Analyzer and it works fine. When I run the very same procedure in MS access by clicking on its link I have to run it twice. The first run gives me the message that the stored procedure ran correctly but returned no records. The second run gives me the correct number of records but I have to run it twice. I am running month-to-month data. The first run is Jan thru March. Jan and Feb have no records so I run three months on the first set. The ensuing runs are individual months from April onward. The output is correct but any ideas on why I have to do it twice in Access? I am a bit new to stored procedures but my supervisor assures me that it should be exactly the same.

Anyone know how I can achive this?

Restore DB

Jun 12, 2001

Windows NT 4 EE - SQL 7.0 SP1
We use two backup methods:
1: thru SQL Server jobs (Maintenance Plans),
2: thru ARCServe IT (CA).
I think that there are 4 tables ( BackupMediaFamily, backupset,backupfile,backupmediaset)in msdb that are updated everytime a backup is taken.
This happen even with the ARCServe IT backups.
The result is that when I go thru EM to do a restore operation I find a list of all my SQL backups + the ARCServe IT backups in the "general tab" of RESTORE DATABASE of EM.
Suppose I have this situation:
2001/06/11 21:00 full SQL backup (on disk)
2001/06/12 12:00 full ARCServe IT backup (on tape)
2001/06/12 17:00 differential SQL Backup (on disk)

If I want to combine my last differential disk backup with my full SQL disk Backup,there is no way to do it thru EM, because as soon as I choose the differential backup, EM associate this one with the ARCServe IT backup that is taken on tape.
So, I dont need the ARCServe IT informations on my msdb tables. Is there a way to resolve this problem and thererfore eliminate the ARCServe IT informations on msdb tables?
Thank you very much!
