Production SQL2005 Std, And Missing SSIS (easy Question)
Feb 27, 2008
IS this procedure exactly correct?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/913967
Line 10 does not say go to advanced but that is the only place I see Integration Services to install.
Can't make a Maint. Plan for backups because the server is missing SSIS..
Thanks.

Hi,
Is it possible to deploy both SQL2000 and SQL2005 on the same server in the production environment?
Is it recommended? Next year we will be deploying a SQL2005 solution and was wondering if we could get away with installing it on the same server as the SQL2000 server, or whether we should put it on another server.
We have up to a maximum of 50 concurrent users.
Thanks.

Hello!
People, familiar with SQL Server internals, please help!
In SQL2K was a stored procedure xp_repl_help_connect which performed password encryption/decryption. I understand that existence of such procedure is unsafe, but it's used in our replication system for transmitting replication agent password to Subscribers. In this case it's very useful. I didn't find it in SQL2005...
Is there any analogue of this SP in SQL2005?

Our production servers run Win 2003 x64. There is SQL Server 2005 x64 and Integration Services installed (both build 9.0.3175). SSIS is working between SQL Servers.
Now I have to import Excel but can't find the 32-bit version of dtexec. There is definite only the 64-bit version of dtexec installed.
Why does SSIS installation don't install the whole SSIS functionality?
What do we have to install to get the full SSIS functionality including 32-bit? We can't try and error on a running production server.
thanks

We have developed a project with many SSIS packages. Now we are in a stage where we are deploying this into production.
The operaitons team has asked us what are the things they need to known and do to make sure that the production system of SSIS keeps running.
Can you help me in comming up with a detailed list which I can give to the operations/admin folks so that they can ensure that this project keeps running?
I would appriciate any help in this matter.

Hi,
we've created a ata Flow task to execute several aggregations. Our Task access database using OLE DB source and selects data out of our staging tables (we've analyzed the query using MS SQL Management Studio which didn't showed any issues). But when we try to run our dataflow task using SSIS (debug mode and DTEXEC from command line) we experince that tasks seem to stop during processing.
Unfortunately we didn't found a way to see long logfile entries which explain the issue to us.
We do use several aggregation tasks divided in 4 sequences. Unfortunately we just see one logical processor out of 4 logical processors working. It is a Windows 2003 SP2 machine with SQL 2005 SP2 on top of it.
Is there any solution to use all processors to one package for parallel execution?
So basically we experience two issues:
- SSIS seems to stop somewhere in thre middle
- SSIS just uses one processor instaed of all four
your advice is appreciated

I am curious to find out by other people on how they manage incremental code changes to SSIS packages. I am in a situation now where we deliver production SSIS packages to a client, where the client changes the connection details to the data sources and exectues the packages on a nightly basis.
We have had instances where clients are asking for enhancements and modifications to the SSIS package whereby we would develop it in our development environment then replace the existing copy in the clients production environment. There has been instances whereby the packages would work as desired on our end, but it requires further refinement on the clients side. As such, we have had instances where we had to "back-out" into the previous packages.
I am just trying to find out what methods or procedures other people are following to acknowledge situations like this or similar to this. Currently we are following an exhaustive method of having two copies of the code on the client side, the "live" code is never modified, just the secondary copy, then when all is good, we move this code into the "live" code. Does anyone have any means of performing incremental updates on SSIS packages easily?

Hi,
I have a package that I developed on my local machine and runs well. I run
it through the command line on my production server the following way:
D: estCMS_MoveContentToLive>dtexec /f
D: estCMS_MoveContentToLiveCMSMoveIte
mToLive.dtsx -de
The -de option is because i changed the default security protection level of
the package as BOL says that for the default protection level
(EncryptAllWithUserKey): "Only the user who created or exported the package
can open the package in SSIS Designer or run the package by using the dtexec
command prompt utility."
The problem is that the package does not run successfully and vomits a lot
of error message that I do not understand, such as:
<errorMessage>
Error: 2006-02-15 18:13:43.55

code 0xC0048021.
End Error
</errorMessage>
Notice that at the end it says that the validation failed.
I looked on the internet but I did not found any information regarding this
issue.
I also created a dummy SSIS package that does not have any data flaw but
just have a single SQL task doing a single insert in a table. When i
execute it on the production server, it runs successfully!
Then what is wrong with my "complex" package that all the data flow
components seems to: "can not be located, even though it is registered." ???
To be exact, I have an error for all the data flow components except the
script component.
Thanks for any help.
Best regards,
Francois Malgreve
PS:
I also would like to mention that on my production server, only the SSIS
service is installed, not SQL Server itself.
When you run the setup of SQL 2005, it is indeed possible to install only
the SSIS component which is what I need in my case as SSIS packages are run
from a middle tier server and connect to various DBs.
I think this is important as I just discovered that the package can run
successfully when I run it on a server which has a full version of SQL
Server 2005. By that I mean having SQL Database Server + SSIS installed. But it will run only from the command line, if i run it from an asp.net application it won't run successfully and return the same kind of error i showed in this message. in a desesparate attempt to solve my problem, I granted more rights to the ASPNET user and NETWORK_SERVICE user by adding them in the administrator group as I quite believe it might be related to security as on that server it works well from the command line. But it did not help.

I have migrated several (7) DTS packages to SSIS in a development environment. In this environment these packages all work as designed. I am now in the process of placing the .dtsx files on the production server and scheduling jobs around them.
I am encountering problems in 3 of these 7 packages. I get the following error:
Message
The job failed. The Job was invoked by User <domainuser>. The last step to run was step 1 (Create and Transfer Credentialling Data).
This is not what I would call very informative. I have opened the dtsx files in question in BIDS on the production server and each has the following error reported:
Error loading <name>dtsx; Failed to decrypt protected XML node "PassWord" with error 0x8009000B" Key not valid for use in specified state." You may not be authorized to access this information. This error occurs when there is a cryptographic error. Verify that the correct key is available.
I have looked at the package setting "Protection Level" and all seven packages have the same setting: EncryptSensisitveWithUserKey
Each of the connections within the packages have been defined to utilize Windows Authentictation. And the jobs are set to run under the SQL Agent Account.
What I find most puzzeling is that each of these packages are defined exactly the same and some work correctly and others do not.
Thanks for taking the time help me with this issue.

Hi All,
I have created an SSIS package which will import data from EXCEL file to SQL server. I had assigned the excel file path using an expression which wil be a combination of the folder path where the excel file resides + file name + date+extension. I also assigned the connection string for the OLEDB using the Expression. I have also exported the Folder path and the eonnection string variables to the package configurations and i have created the deployment project, which contains the package, packagemanifest and the package config file.
Now i need to know the steps to install the package in the production server and the steps to schedule the job in the sql server.
any of you plz give me the link to find the steps or plz tel me the things that i have to do.

Hi There,
In SSIS package development environment, I was able to connect to an oracle database and pull data into my sql server database. I installed the client tools for oracle and I put an entry into the tnsnames.ora and I was able to connect.
But in production environment, if I deploy the package on sql server, I was wondering if I had to do the same job of downloading the oracle client tools onto my production machine --which creates a tnsnames.ora file to it default location and then edit it with tthe tns entry-- or is there a better way to do this--avoiding the download?
Can somebody plzz help me ?
Thanks.

Greetings,
I need to install the SSIS components on the referenced database server. I believe the SSIS components are cluster aware, so I was planning on just doing add/remove and selecting the components. Rather than breaking the cluster apart to patch the components back to SP1, I was thinking of just running the SP2 install right over the top of the running cluster to bring everything up to SP2.
I'm looking for any suggestions/comments on whether this is the proper way to proceed or if I'm going to have a problem.
TIA

In SQL 2000, I had a working DTS package that would import a Pervasive SQL database into SQL 2000 (There is a good reason, provided on request). The column type definitions came over just fine in SQL 2000 with a few minor changes.
In SQL 2005 (SSIS), i create a Data Source via the Connection Manager (Provider: .Net ProvidersOdbc Data Provider) to the Pervasive database (System DSN, <database_odbc>). I then create a Data Destination via the Connection Manager (Provider: Native OLE DBSQL Native Client) to the SQL database. Both databases reside on the same machine.
I've created a DataSource Reader and used the sql command, "select * from ARCustomer" as an example. The issue is with "data types" for the columns. They don't come close to resembling the results that i had in SQL 2000 DTS.
Is there another method or parameter setting that will preserve the "data types" for the columns being imported from the Pervasive database.
This has been a real stumbling block and any help would be truly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your assistance ... Bernie

W2k3 server, SQL 2005.
@@version = Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.1399.06 (Intel X86)
Standard Edition on Windows NT 5.2
(Build 3790: Service Pack 1)
I'm trying to set up my first SSIS package to import a flat file to a
database table. The connection manager will not allow a text
qualifier.
My data is comma delimited, with doublequotes around each field. If I
enter " as the text qualifier, then I get the error "The preview sample
contains embedded text qualifiers ("). The flat file parser does not
support embedding text qualifiers in data. Parsing columns that
contain data with text qualifiers will fail at run time." The data in
Columns view shows as just one column rather than multiple columns.
If I leave the text qualifier as None, then the data in Columns view
shows as just one column again.
I've tried with more than one datafile, including a short sample file
that I set up manually. All files get the same error.
Has anyone else seen this problem?
Thanks much for any assistance!

Any idea how I can get this back, I really don't wont to uninstall and reinstall at the moment, and I'm not even sure if that would work.

I am attempting to import data into SQL 2005 (using the Tasks->Import Data wizard) and get as far as selecting a datasource. My source is ODBC and I am selecting ".NET Framework Data Provider for Odbc" but then get stuck on the connection string... I am attempting to import from 'Relativity Client' which as far as I can tell is an interface to a Cobol database, I have also had this problem importing from FoxPro - how do I come up with a connection string?
I have also tried to create a DTSX package, created the connection to the odbc source, tested ok, then when selecting the connection as a source (datareader source) I get the message 'Cannot acquire a managed connection from the run-time connection manager'...
I have also created a DTS package in SQL2000, upgraded to a 2005 package, this creates a file which after opening cannot be saved 'System.OutOfMemoryException', on my laptop with 2gig physical ram (1.3gig in use), 8gig virtual memory...
This is getting just a little frustrating as the SQL 2000 wizard fetches the data straight in from any data source I have ever tried with no complication whatsoever...
Unfortunately the first training course I can get on is in the middle of January. But I would prefer not to have to install SQL2000 and SQL2005 (SQL2000 for DTS, SQL2005 for reporting) just to get a few reports up and running.
What do I need to do to make SSIS import ODBC data? Or if someone can direct me to a good source (preferably with examples) of how to get SSIS working it would be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes copying task might demand transferring schema objects like temp tables and procedures from sql2005 to sql2000.

We have an SSIS package which runs regularly throughout the day, on 15 minute intervals. This package is moving data between two SQL Server instances, performing some simple identity mapping along the way. The primary source table is large, and we want to move only those records which have changed since the last time the package ran, so we use VersionDatestamps in the table, and pick up the dataset to be transferred by using the pacakge execution time, and the (previously recorded by the package) last-run time.
The problem we are having, is that the initial dataset picked up by SSIS is often missing records. The missing records are clearly within the time window that the package queried for, though they are near the boundary (within a minute, of the boundary, but as much as 30 seconds away) and typically all have an identical version datestamp to each other, within a single execution of the package.
At first, we thought this was an issue with date precision, but we've both truncated the dates, and even expanded the time window, and we still experience the same phenomenon.
The stored procedure which is responsible for updating the records in question, runs as a previous step to the SSIS package, within a single SQL Server Agent Job.
Has anyone experienced anything similar, or have some recommendation on how to track the source of this down?

Im from Russia, sorry if my english is not very good.
Here's the case:
1)-------------------------------
I made a DTS-package in sql2000 that transfers the [sql table] into [dbf file] via jet4.
First i create (in delphi) the empty dbf with the same name and columns same as in sql table.
Second, I run my DTS with variables - source and destination table names
In DTS there is source, destination and transformation . After I send the Variables(table names)
, the transformation "arrow" needs to be "refreshed" to make column names in both tables correspond each other. For that in transformation I chose ActiveXScript Mode and wright VB Script:
'**********************************************************************
' Visual Basic Transformation Script
'************************************************************************
' Copy each source column to the destination column
Function Main()
dim i
For i = 1 To DTSSource.Count
DTSDestination(i) = DTSSource(i)
next
Main = DTSTransformStat_OK
End Function
And it works
2)------------------------------
I want to do same thing in sql2005 SSIS but don't figure out how...
I managed to make a package that recieves (in variables) table names and runs correctly.
But after I change those variable names into any other it crashes -
Description: "component "OLE DB Source" (1)" failed validation and returned validation status "VS_NEEDSNEWMETADATA".
Of cource this happens 'cause I didn't "refresh" the transformatoin (and maybe also source and dest), but I don't know how.
Anyone can help ?!

Hello All,
I have a package in which I have enabled "Package Configuration".
When I run the package i am sure that it reads the configuration file and executes the package correctly.
However if I remove the configuration file, the package still executes correctly with the settings which were used at the time of development.
I have event handlers for OnError and OnWarning and both these are NOT invoked.
IMO, this is incorrect behavior because if a package has been configured for "package configuration, then we should atleast have a warning generated that SSIS did not find the configuration and it would execute the package with hard coded values (from the time of development).
Is there any work around for this? how can I make SSIS warn me if the config file is missing for a package which was configured for package configuration?
