There is a database located at remote location we wanted the same on the local server..so we backed it up then restored the same on the local server everything went successfull.
When i tried to create user it says the user is already existing, but nither can i see the user nor drop the one..(ofcourse not existing) it gives me an error 15023.
The other problem is that when i check the storedprocedures i can see and open them when i try to look for permissions or assign it by clicking permissions tab it says the specific stored procedure doesnot exist and gives me a sql-dmo error 21770.

I'm having a serious problem in SQL 2000 SP3 Database which is used Business Applications. Today, I tryied to take backup in service time by the Enterprize Manager, the following error occured and could not take backup. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Error 926 : Database '[database name]' cannot opened. It has been marked SUSPECT by recovery. See the SQL Server errorlog for more information. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After that, we tried same operation 3 times. But result is same.
After sometime, end-user report us that they can not log-in to database.
So we tried to dettach this database and attached it. We success to dettach, but we can not attached it.
Also we tried to restore this database from Yesterday's backup file by using Enterprize Manager, but the following error occured, and could not complete. This backup file was generated daily backup task in Maintenance Plan in Enterprize Manager. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Microsoft SQl-DMO(ODBC SQLState:42000) The media family on device "E:ccd......xxx.bak" is incorrectly formed. SQL Server cannot process this media family. RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We need to recover the database immediately not to stop the end-user business process. Please help us.
I was wondering how I could restore a bkp file into a database with a different name. For example, I made a backup of T1.mdf and i want to restore t1.bkp to T2.mdf.
I am in a deep shit with this...its my life and survival...
How to configure a linked server for oracle.
My oracle instance name is dbserver.internal.ca.com and how do i query since it gives me an error when i use the above name i had this come up some time early.
what information do i need to create a linked server for orale on sql server either using ole-db or odbc.
One more question is there a way where i can import data from oracle to sql server with having a oracle client installed on the machine where sql server exists.
My question is, is it necessary to install oracle client to migrate database from oracle to sql server. If not how do i do the same...what is the process to do it. since this is a prodction machine we don't want more of applications running on the same machine.
i am migrating data and schema from oracle server to sql server., when i try to do the dts it gives me an error saying could not resolve tnsnames.ora. iam not sure what is the problem.
My oracle server host is dbserver.hari.com.edu and its name is Prod (name of the machine)
i tried both it still gives me the same error., but when i install an oracle client on the machine and configure the same it is working great.
Someone told there got something to do with win.ini file i am not sure what to do and how to do.
I have a Database A in production with 12GB as data file and 8 GB as log file. How do I restore this db in Development with a smaller log file, say 1GB? I can't shrink the log file or anything in production. What is the best way to restore in Dev with a smaller log file?
I have a production database with a backup job that creates files with thenaming convention dbname_db_200503291800.bak. I want to schedule a restorejob that will retire yesterdays backup. How can I write my restore statementso that it will specify the backup file with yesterdays date. Thanks
We have a production 2012 R2 SQL server that is not part of a domain. I have a database called CSSDC. I need to backup this database and make the BAK file available to a user on a different SQL server. Security is a concern. In order for this user to restore the database, they will have to be in the fixed server role sysadmins. I know I am going to have to use the Move with replace for the filegroups for the restore. Once the database is restored it will have to be altered to read-only. I would also like to remove the existing security and only have this new user access the read-only database.
I am looking for a SQL Backup/Restore tools which can restore multiple environments. Here is high level requirements.
1. We have 4 DBs, range from 1 TB - 1.5 TB Each Database. When we restore to QA, DEV, or Staging, we usually restore 4 of them. 2. I am looking for the speed to complete restoring between 1 - 2 hours for 4 DBs.
I am evaluating the Dephix Software but the setup is very complex and its given us a lot of issues with Windows Authentions, and failure in the middle of the backup. I used Guess Software many years ago but can't find it on the web site any more. Speed is very important for us mean complete restoring as fast as possible. We are on SQL 2012 and SQL 2008 R2.We are currently using NETAPP Technology and I have Redgate Backup Tool but I am mainly looking for fast Restore Process.
I would like to have guide for backup estore strategy for production DB..if i have to apply for high availability of production DB..
consider scenario ..Full backup every week, differential backups every 6 hours, and logs every fifteen minutes.
suppose my DB is crashed at 8:14 AM and my last logs were backed up at 8 AM then by looking above startegy then i lost my DB from 8 am to 8:14 am???? if not then where it shud find???
also looking above scenario by taking backup for such high frequency is it full my disk?? guide me pls...
I have a 20 GB SS2005 database that I would like to be replicated to a dev server for testing purposes. I might have some issues with the firewall blocking ports. I haven't read up on the specifics of how log shipping works yet, but I assume that is the best approach. A daily transfer would suffice.
A few options I am considering:
1. use the built in stuff, but I'm not sure it will work with our security settings, and if the trans logs are large it might be strained.
2. writing a small custom app to zip up the log file then ftp them down to the dev server. This could run nightly.
3. some third party util, such as FolderShare could transfer the log files
Data got deleted on Friday evening, need to have database restored to FRiday afternoon and also some data has been entered on Monday, which needs to be there.
I have a database file approximately 30GB in size which creates 3 datatables daily. I need to reduce the size of the DB due to disk sizelimitations. Could I EXPORT some tables, let us say over thirty daysold, to something like DB_Name_Archieve and them delete them from theproduction DB to reduce the size? I also need the ability toreference/read them at a later time as needed. As a side note, could SQL Server use data on a redirected drive i.e.NET Used. This would allow me to move the old tables to the redirecteddrive and reference them as needed. As always, thanks in advance.Peter
How do we know the list of all the backups that are present in a particualr backup device like file# and time of backup taken etc for the purose of restore?
When I run : RESTORE HEADERONLY FROM BackupDeviceName
it doesn't give that info. Can anyone tell me the exact command to list all the files of a backup device so that I can restore the right one?? Thanks. Shalini.
I should restore a SQL Server 2005 Database from backup. The backup contains three files, named user.bak0, user.bak1 and user.bak2.
How is the syntax of the restore filelistonly and the restore database ... ?
I usualy write restore filelistonly from disk = 'path and filenam.bak' restore database. zy from disk = 'path and filename.bak' with replace, move..... move....
This works but I cannot use it with a splitted backup file. The files are much too big to put together to one file.
I am attempting to create a Test db from a full backup of the production db. With 2012, I cannot do it the the way i had done it in previous versions (and now i understand why because of Logical names).
The Test db runs in the same instance as Prod db.
I attempted to run this but come up with errors. This is what i executed:
RESTORE DATABASE TEST FROM DISK = 'E:<path>FULL.BAK' WITH REPLACE, RECOVERY, MOVE 'PROD' TO 'E:<path>TEST.MDF';
The errors are all cannot execute due to PROD is in use.
I neglected to backup the transaction log as part of the process of backing up the database. Now i only have the backup file for the database and no transaction log backup. When i try to do a restore on the database, i get the error on a "tail log missing" message (which i'm assuming is that it's looking for the t-log backup?).
Is it possible to restore or even restore to a new database? I'm only looking to retreive data from 2 tables within the backup file.
Howdy; I've tried this in the 'tools' area, but that didn't work too well. I suspect, I will have to generate a T-SQL code then schedule it as a job. Why I can't just drag and drop with basic desires, is beyond me, but THAT probably does exist.
anyway here is the problem [this server has many databases, on SQL 2000 sp2] 1. User only wants me to use Monday morning's full backup, which is good in that it doesn't include transaction logs. 2. Restore that data overtop/into Developement db. = good, no data to worry about damaging. 3. User does NOT want me to do this by hand, but schedule it.
ok, a. must do a RESTORE WITH FILELISTONLY from [?] what ?, master? and if I user the *.bak of the production, it has a coded date field in the name entry SO, I would, I guess, have to generate all sorts of wonderful code to find the date and build a file name. Why, because using the FROM DISK = 'F:MSSQLBACKUPDBPRODUCTION_yyyyddmm.BAK' is not going to work with a wild card. Can I do a file lookup using a 'PRODUCTION' prefix into a variable, then use that or should I look for latest file date [remember there are several database backups here], or ????
then. How does one schedule such a T-SQL. Do I save it to some text file, and invoke it using a job scheduler.
When I have tried to restore a Backup Database from Tape, I get this message :
The DataBase your are attemping to restore was backed up under a different sort order ID (146) than the one currently running on this server (52), and at least one of them is non-binary sort order.
Hello, I am a newbie to SQL 7.0. I have a 14 gig database, that this moring i accidently deleted rows out of a major table. I never issued a commit and the current log is 12gig. I tred the following - RESTORE DATABASE WJR_SYSTEM_EVENTS WITH RECOVERY
I assume the above will restore the db from the trans log, since no commit was issed. Anyway, the error message I received was DATABASE MUST BE IN EXCLUSIVE MODE. I think its, since I have restricted users to just the sa. What is the proper produre to recover this database??
I've database in both server of same structure, I'm trying to take backup of database on share drive and trying to restore from the another server, On another server I've mapped that drive as G: and I'm running the restore statement as restore database Indices from disk = 'G:Indices.bak' with replace, Move 'Indices_Data' to 'C:MSSQL7DataIndices_Data.MDF', Move 'Indices_Log' to 'C:MSSQL7DataIndices_Log.MDF'
It gives me error Server: Msg 3201, level 16, state 2, line 1 cannot open backup device 'G:Indices.Bak'. Device error or device off-line.
On Share drive permission, I've given full control to everyone Can anyone pls help me.
Hi, my live database just crashed, and i restored to point in time. the restore claimed it was successful, but the database has remained in LOADING status for a long time now. does this ever go away, or am i in big trouble here? how long should i let this thing "load" before i just delete the database and recreate and restore again? thank you
Someone, I don't know who, deleted an important table in my database. I've only been able to find restore routines on full databases. Is there any way to restore just a single table?
I have a 95GB database (dump file is 73 GB) and I want to restore it on a different server. I have created 95GB devices and tried to restore it, but it failed because of reason " page xxx had non-log objectid xxx while checking in syslogs" . I tried locating the object on that page but it showed page is in cache.
Hi all - I may be showing my ignorance here but I am in desparate need for some help on restoring my databases. Is there a way to restore/import/recreate a database directly from the .mdf/.ldf files. What has happened it that my hard drive containing my SQL data crashed and cannot be recovered. The only backup that I have of my SQL data is a direct copy of my entire DATA directory from the now ruined SQL install. I need to be able to restore those .mdf and .ldf files into a new instance of SQL. Is there a way to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
