I´ve made a mistake on my part. I have deleted my complete program icons for "Microsoft SQL Server" in my start menu.
Is there a simple way to just renew all the icons in my start menu without reinstalling the complete sql server.

I'm packaging SQL 2005 Express as part of the installer for a custom program. The installer works fine and everything runs fine, but I don't want users to see the sql server > configuration tools start menu group and start playing around with settings.
Is there a command line option to not create the start menu group that anyone knows about, or another way to have the installer not create the icons?

I have a 2003 Server which has two Named Instances of SQL Server 2000.
I need to add a third Named Instance, but when I logged onto the Server this morning, I noticed that all of the
'Microsoft SQL Server' Entries are missing from the START/PROGRAMS menu !! Enterprise Manager, BOL... everything!! The SQL Server Service Manager is running and both of my Instances are up and running (this is a production box). I can launch Enterprise Manager from MMC.EXE in WINDOWSSystem32 folder... very weird!!!!
In my Add/Remove Programs, I see MS SQL Server listed Twice.. one time for each of the two named Instances.
Has anyone ever seen this before??? Do you think it's safe to run SQL Server Installation to Install a Third Instance on this box???

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have this Visual Basic program that if you are already logged into the application, the program get the username and password automatically to run the program. If the user runs the program not logged into the application, the program prompts username and password.
I need to know the T-SQL statement that will get the username and password when the user is already logged into the application. Basically I have the username part but the password keeps coming back as NULL and will not allow program to run.

I have recently had issues opening a program. I called their tech guy and he said that since my SQL is stopped, their program won't open. He asked if I had uninstalled anything lately. I had uninstalled the Kodak Easy Share within the last couple of weeks. We use Windows XP. I have tried opening the Service Manger and when I click the refresh or start buttons nothing happens.
Please someone help me restart my SQL.
Student from norway needs help. After update on certain rows a trigger will trigg a program (using LDAP?) That fetches data and stores it in an Active Directory What should this trigger look like, it only starts another program.

I have installed SQL server 2005 enterprise edition on Windows 2003 virtual PC (full installation). The installation went through successfully. However, after install completed, I cannot find any of the client tools under the start menu -> all programs -> Microsoft SQL server 2005 menu. The only item listed under the SQL server 2005 is Configuration Tools, which is used to configure the database server.
I have tried to install the client component again (in case I didn't install them at the first place) but the installation process cannot be started since it detected that the client components have been installed already. I can also see the sql server native client running in the services.
The server engine is working fine since I can connect to that sql server using another machine where I have the client tool (SQL server management studio).
One of my friends has exactly the same problem. He installed the sql server 2005 Standard edition on windows 2003 server (full installation), but the client tools are not showing up in the start menu either.
I also checked the location for the SQL server management studio (Microsoft SQL server/90/Tools/Binn/VSShell/Common7/IDE), there is only one folder called publicAssemblies listed under. Is this correct or something is missing?

I can't figure out how to get recently used Excel 2007 (new file formats) documents to show up in the Windows XP Professional (sp2) Start Menu's Recent Documents List. I checked the Internet, the knowledgebase, many parts of the MS web site, etc. for an answer but can't find one.
Are Excel 2007 documents supposed to show up in the XP Start Menu's Recent Document List? Is this a bug or do I have to do some sort of configuration to make it do so? If it's a bug, when will a fix be available?
Are these new Excel 2007 files filtered out like EXE files are which will not appear in the Recent Document List?
The Excel 2007 file types are listed in the Registry.

I am using VS2005 (VB) to develop a PPC WM5.0 Program. And I am using SQLCE 3.0. My PPC Hardware is in 400MHz.
The question is when the program try to insert the first record into sdf database after each time the program started. It takes a long time. Does anyone know why and how can I fix it?
I will load the whole database into a dataset when the program start and do all the "Insert", "Update", "Delete" in this dataset and fill it into database after each action.

I check the sda.update(), it takes about 0.08s for filling one record into database normally. But:
1. Start the PPC Program
2. Load DB into dataset
3. Create a ONE new record in dataset
4. Fill back to DB
When I take this four steps everytime, the filling time is almost 1s or even more!
Actually, 0.08s is just a normal case. Sometimes, it still takes over 1s to filling back a dataset which only inserted one record when the program is running. (Even all inserted records are exactly the same in data jsut different in the integer key)
However, when I give up the dataset and using the following code:

I found that it is still the same that the first inserted record takes more time, but just about 0.2s. And the normal insert time is around 0.02s. It is 4 times faster!!!

what the program will do if we caught that exception .. i need some suggestions ... i got this exception(String or binary data would be truncated.
The statement has been terminated.).. will it affect the functionality of the program...

i installed sql server 7.0 and when i run Enterprise manager for SQL server (MMC snap in) i see that the SQL server has a little RED SQUIGGLY ACROSS the server icon. can anyone tell me what that means?????

I'm trying to add an icon to a custom component but its not happening and I can't figure out why. I'm sure I've managed to do this in the past. Here's my DtsPipelineComponent attribute:

I am creating a task manager functionality in c#.net 2003. I am checking only for open microsoft applications . If any microsoft application is opened ,it will display the application name for ex "Microsoft Word" in the listview control and its status "Running" . Now, I want to display the icon for Microsoft word or any other microsoft application, how should I display it in the ListView control.?
I have tried by taking it in the imagelist , because I have a class which returns the Windows Icons for these applications which are opened. But, I am unable to display it.

Hi all. First, please accept my apologies for any obvious questions, as im very new to this!Anyway, 2 small questions:
I dont have the 'server running' icon in the system tray... The little grey box with a green arrow. have i installed SQL incorrectly?
This leads my to my other question:- After installation (which, i think went fine), i learnt that SQL Server Express cannot run with more than 1 CPU. But i have a Duel-Core. Would this cause problems?

SQL 2000 is easy to see what process is blocking and what processes are locked. I find 2005 confusing and can't find any documentation on what the new icons mean and or details on interpreting the object/process lock screens.

The borders and icons come back if I resize the window by dragging an edge of the window. They disappear again if I maximize the window.
It's very odd, but I'm wondering if it means that something sinister is going on. I didn't set up all of the software on this machine, so I don't fully trust that it was set up correctly.
I want to find out more information about the execution plan. I saw Parallelism (Gather Streams) in the excution plan. In what situation we can see this icon?If in case if we need to avoid how can we avoid this?

I was wondering if anyone had come across an issue where the icons in the dimension usage tab of the cube are not being displayed properly, for example if you use a many-to-many the little blue infinity sign is missing. It is a little annoying.
SP2 with BIDS helper, not to sure if BIDS helper did it or SP2, sure it was fine before

All aspects of my custom task work well except for the icon!
I have included the .ico in the assembly as an "Embedded Resource" and the icon has both 16X16 and 32X32 images. I have edited the IconResource property of the DtsTask attribute as follows:
IconResource="MyNamespace.MyDLLName.MyIconName.ico",
Where the output assembly is called "MyNamespace.MyDLLName.dll".
Has anybody got this working before? The Icon just never shows (I get the default blue square task icon).

My server is showing the green running icon but also a vertical red squiggly line. I do not know what this red squiggly line means, and it concerns me. The databases all seem fine, and everything seems to be working, i just have this feeling like something bad is impending and I cannot find anything that tells me what it might be. I am now starting to create actual database projects in SSMS but the problem is that when I go to create add a new item by right-clicking on the project all i get is
Existing Item
New Connection
New Query
So, can anyone tell me how do I get the 'Add New Item' menu item to appear so I don't have do the riduculous way of creating a new query, then open another non-project script item from template explorer, then copy the contents from latter to former and then close the superfluous non-project script item.
