Programatically Setting The XSD Location In An XML Source
Nov 8, 2007
Hi,
Is there a way to set the XSD programatically? I don't want to hard code an XSD filename/location.
Alternatively, is there a way to set the location in a relative path name (i.e. relative to the path of the package)? I did see a similar question here but that wasn't answered. I tried but I wasn't getting anywhere.
As far as I can see there is no way to set this with an Expression either.
Another alternative I thought of would be to set this with using the SSIS object model but I have no experience with this and I don't know if it can be done at run time. If it can be done I would appreciate a pointer to some further information on doing this.
I want to set the language property of a report programatically. I get the language locale at runtime and once I get it, I need to go to all the reports which are published or still are on the local system (in rdl format) and set the language property on each of the reports.
I created a SSIS package, added Script task. created data flow task programatically, trying to add a flat file source component programatically. stuck at this point.
my goal is to add flat file source component to the data flow task and insert into a table in sql server using oledb destination component all programatically.
I want to be able to programmatically set the schema location for an XML source. I first thought it would be a simple task using expressions and variables but it doesn't appear to allow anything in the way of setting it at runtime. Is this possible?
I have developed a SSIS package on my desktop and the package involves loading of XML data into a database. The XML does not have inline schema and I generated the XSD file from SSIS.
I used Derived Column and Data Conversion to load the data into the database.
Now, i want to migrate the package to a server. Now, when i change the path of the XML and XSD files, all the tasks show error such as
"Input column 'Last_Updated' (4433) has lineage id 3586 that was not previously used in data flow...."
Why is this so? I am using the same XML/XSD files after i moved to the server.
I have a flat source file(.csv) which I am importing to SQL server. Now, if the source file is not available at the specified location, then the SSIS package should retry to execute n times( say 3 times) after certain time interval. The number of retries and the time interval should be configurable.
I have used Flat File connection manager for the source and OLEDB connection manager for the destination.
I am quite new to SSIS. Any help would be highly appreciated.
I am using the "XML Source Adapter" in an SSIS package. I notice that although you can specify the XML filename as an expression, the XSD appears to have to be a fixed file path. This is a problem for me since the path for the XSD is different in my development than it will be in production (in production it's on drive E:, which I don't have).
I'd like to have the file location specified in the config file, but since I can't make it an expression how can I do that?
Also, since they don't have Connection Managers I can't switch DelayValidation on.
I created a SSIS package to extract data from a flat file source and load them into a table in a data base. After I created the package i checked it in to source control(perforce).
But the problem is once a month new flat source file comes and data should be updated. Once the new flat file comes, is there anyway that SSIS package can identify the path of the flat file and execute the package automatically? In Flat file source only the data will be changed. Not location or data type or anything. Can i use parameters to do that?
I have created a SSIS package that transfer data from a Foxpro database to an instance of SQL Server 2005 Express. I used the wizard to create the package but I load and execute the package within a custom application that I have written in C#.
The way the custom application is intended to work is that the user can have the database in any location on the computer and all he has to do is specify the location then the application programatically changes the location of the source on the package that it has loaded and then execute it. When I initially run the package the first time (using the original path), it works fine and transfers the data. However, every subsequent time I run the application and specify a different path, the database on the SQL Server side gets created as expected but the data is not transfered!
Where am I going wrong? Do I need to save the package after I modify the source then reload and run it again or do i need to change something else in the Data Flow to make this work?
I am running Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, and I am having difficulties setting up an ODBC User Data Source to connect to the SQL server. I have tried going through "Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Data Sources (ODBC)" to add a user data source. For the SQL Server to connect to, I have tried specifying "localhostSQLEXPRESS", "SQLEXPRESS", "(local)", etc. -- but nothing seems to work. When the DSN configuration wizard tries to connect to the SQL Server to obtain default settings, it fails with the error "SQL Server does not exist or access denied". (Same error occurs if I try connecting to this ODBC data source later.) But I know that the SQL Server exists and I have been using it through the SQL Server data provider in another application. I am new to this, so any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kumar
Is there a command that can be used to set the account and password of an SSRS data source? I want to use a datasource that uses the option "(windows) credentials stored securely in the report server". The password for the account to be used can not be known by any humans (or we have to kill them after) so we want to set it programmatically. Is this possible via a command?
My manager has asked me to install and configure Source Safe so that our team can check out stored procedures, (and other objects), and check them back in when we are finished working on them.
I'm not familiar with Visual Source Safe. Does SQL Server 2005 work with Visual Source Safe in such a way that I can check out/in SQL Server objects such as procedures?
If someone knows the answer, or perhaps an existing thread that covers this, please let me know.
I'm trying to set up a user DSN for a MS Access database in Vista. In XP it's usually just a case of going to Admin Tools > Data Sources but I only get the option of SQL Server and SQL Native Client with Vista. I'm pretty sure I found a way of doing it a while ago by opening another version of Data Sources from the command prompt but can't for the life of me remember what it was.
I'm running EM on my local box and sql server on a remote internetaccessed box.How do I specify a file path for a DTS package to access files on theremote box?For example, to run a local dts package the filepath isc:filepathfile.txt.How would I change the file path/name to allow the dts package toaccess files on the same remote machine?-Dave
I've been working on an application that uploads an RDL to Reporting Services (through the SOAP webservice method CreateReport) programmatically. I'm having difficulty setting up the data source properties for my uploaded report. In particular the Data Source Credentials property.
The datasource for my report doesn't require credentials. By default after I upload the report to Reporting Services, the Data Source Credentials property is set to "Credentials supplied by the user running the report". How do I go about setting the Data Source Credentials property to "Credentials are not required" programmatically through the webservice?
I am running into an issue that seems to be collaborated here: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=188886&SiteID=1.
To summarize, I have a Foreach Loop that uses a Foreach File Enumerator. The loop writes the file names to a variable which is used in the Expressions property for a flat file's ConnectionString. The flat file is used as a source destination in a Bulk Insert Task that is inside the Foreach Loop. The flat file's connection string is not picking up the file name, resulting in this error: "The specified connection "test.txt" is either not valid, or points to an invalid object. To continue, specify a valid connection."
It doesn't work for a file connection manager or a flat file connection manager.
It does work if I replace the Bulk Insert Task with a Data Flow (flat file source -> ole db destination). It also works if I set the file's connection string manually in a script task.
It looks to me as though the Bulk Insert isn't calling whatever method in the connection manager that reevaluates the property expression. Am I missing something or is this a bug? I looked at the connect site, but couldn't find this particular scenario.
I have a table that I'm loading as part of a control flow that in turn is copied to a target table by using a data flow task. I am doing this because a different set of fields may be used from the source entry to create the target entry based on a field in the source table. That same field may indicate that multiple entries need to be created in the target table from one source table entry for which I use a multi-cast transformation.
The problem I'm having is that no matter how many entries there are in the source table, the OLE DB Source during execution only shows 7,532 entries being taken from the source table. If there are less than 7,532 entries in the source table, everything processes fine. More than 7,532 and the data flow task only takes 7,532 and then seems to hang. It also seems as though only one path of the multi-cast transformation is taken when the conditional split directs a source entry down that path.
Seems like a strange problem I know, but any insight anyone could provide is appreciated. Thanks.
Carlos writes "I am trying to create a sp that would jump from one DB to another using the USE command. I built a string and then I tried to run EXECUTE(@SQLString) with no lock. This is the sample code I am using:
declare @DBName varchar(200) declare @SQlString varchar(300) set @DBName='model' set @SQlString = 'use '+@DBName execute(@SQlString)
Using ADO.NET Or regular queries on SQL Server, is there a good way ofdetermining if a Stored Proc will be returning a result set or if it isa non-query that does all I/O through parameters? Thanks.
Can anyone please direct me to an easy to understand Description, Article or Video tutorial that shows an example on how to programatically connect to an SQL database and retrieve data from a collumn using C# and VISUAL WEB DEVELOPER 2005 EXPRESS EDITION. Also, what namespace should be imported to do this? (From what I have gathered out of the help, it seem that System.Web.UI.WebControls is the one) I am trying to create a "news letter" web page. I have a basic form and when I hit "send" then the code in the background should access the database with all the recipient info, and retrieve all the E-mail addresses, Names, etc. and include it in each e-mail. ( I don't know if it is just me, but the help included with VISUAL WEB DEVELOPER 2005 EXPRESS EDITION is extremely difficult to understand - from a beginner point of view). Thanks! Regards Jan
Hi, I've written a SELECT statement that returns columns dependant on a bitwise parameter @Populate.SELECTCASE WHEN (1 & @Populate) = 1 THEN [Column1] ELSE Null END AS [Column1],CASE WHEN (2 & @Populate) = 2 THEN [Column2] ELSE Null END AS [Column2],CASE WHEN (4 & @Populate) = 4 THEN [Column3] ELSE Null END AS [Column3],CASE WHEN (8 & @Populate) = 8 THEN [Column4] ELSE Null END AS [Column4],etcIs this the most efficient way to acheive this since I am only seeing a small performance gain. It still returns all columns but depending on @Populate will leave some columns with Null values.Any help much appreciated, thanks.
Hi All, I am having problems getting values out of an sqldatasource. I have 2 on the page, i am using one to insert into a table and the other to get a couple of values from another table for the insert. the datasource i am trying to get the values from does a select with a querystring filter i need to grab a couple of fields out of it trhen do the insert on the other datasiource with a button click. The insert is fine, i just don't know how to get the values out of the first 'select source' Any pointers or suggestions most appreciated. Cheers
In VS2003 I have a user defaults table that I would call in the OnLoad - No Postback section to get the user defaults and then used some of the fields from that recordset as Parameters for other recordsets that would also load in that same section and might even issue a different Sql statement based on the field. In VS2005 (VB.NET), I can no longer figure out how to accomplish this. I can use the SQLDatasource Control which seems much improved but I cannot even find the generated code which I would use as a quick way to create my own datasources in the OnLoad event. Where is this code now stored and how can I accomplish my objectives in VB.NET 2005 with the current framework or programatically create data sources as necessary as I did before?
hi i am trying to gernerate some tables ( first with a script and then with a stored procedure),, in ms server management studio exrress 2005 using the followingcreate table ip( id int IDENTITY NOT NULL, ip varchar(15) NOT NULL, hostname varchar(128) NOT NULL, primary key(id)) ; i store this in a new query (assume :right click associates the query to the current database ?) and run it and nothing happens its been a while since i did sql but i think the sql is ok....how or more specifically where is the appropriate place to run this code thankssimo stored as a new query
I have a list box populated by a SqlDataSource with a basic statement of Select name where location = @location. Location is bound to a dropdownlist control. I want to have a checkbox for the Location dropdownlist and a checkbox for another dropdownlist (for the alphabet) that will select only those people with a last name of the letter selected. Changing the checkbox would change the sql statement. OK so there are two questions here: 1. How can I write a sql statement that would select only people whos last name begins with a certain letter. Would it use some sort of convert function to a string with only 1 letter? 2. How can I programatically change the sqlDataSource's 'select' statement. I need to switch between sorting by location and sorting by alphabetical last name. All of my previous experience has had me configuring the datasource in the asp.net code.
Hi SQ Gurus, Please help me with this issue that I am facing. I want to create a table programatically but want to pass its name as a variable. I would like to do something as follows: CREATE PROCEDURE BS_Create (@Name nvarchar(25)) AS CREATE TABLE [dbo].[@Name]( [ID] [int] IDENTITY (1, 1) NOT NULL , [Prod_Name] [nvarchar] (75) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NOT NULL ) ON [PRIMARY] GO The table name is passed in as a parameter. No matter what I pass as a parameter, the table name is '@Name', which is not what I want. Instead, if the variable contains the value 'Product', I would like to see a table with the name 'Product' to be created.
OK, so I'm working on a project that requires the dynamic generation of SQL statements. Now in Visual Studio .NET I'm sure many of you have used that wonderful visual database tool that allows you to magically "verify sql syntax" at the click of a button. It takes a query that looks like this:
"SELECT A.AFFID, A.UserName, A.Pass, A.FirstName, A.LastName, A.Company, A.Street, A.City, A.State, A.ZIP, A.Country, A.phone, P.EMail, A.RecieveEMail, A.SSN, A.JoinDate, A.AffType, P.ProductId, P.BuyerId FROM Affiliates A, Purchases P WHERE (ProductId > 0) ORDER BY 1"
and transforms it into something that looks like this:
"SELECT A.AFFID, A.UserName, A.Pass, A.FirstName, A.LastName, A.Company, A.Street, A.City, A.State, A.ZIP, A.Country, A.phone, P.Email, A.RecieveEMail, A.SSN, A.JoinDate, A.AffType, P.ProductID, P.BuyerID FROM Affiliates A CROSS JOIN Purchases P WHERE (P.ProductID > 0) ORDER BY A.AFFID"
My question is: is there anything in the .NET platform that would allow me to achieve the same kind of result programatically (i.e. transform standard sql to tsql syntax and verify the syntax of the query at run time)?
I need some help with the following issue. I need vb.net code that will create a T-SQL script. For example given the orders table in northwind I would get the following with indexes, RI, ect. :CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Orders] ( [OrderID] [int] IDENTITY (1, 1) NOT NULL , [CustomerID] [nchar] (5) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NULL , [EmployeeID] [int] NULL , [OrderDate] [datetime] NULL , [RequiredDate] [datetime] NULL , [ShippedDate] [datetime] NULL , [ShipVia] [int] NULL , [Freight] [money] NULL , [ShipName] [nvarchar] (40) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NULL , [ShipAddress] [nvarchar] (60) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NULL , [ShipCity] [nvarchar] (15) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NULL , [ShipRegion] [nvarchar] (15) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NULL , [ShipPostalCode] [nvarchar] (10) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NULL , [ShipCountry] [nvarchar] (15) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NULL ) ON [PRIMARY]GO ALTER TABLE [dbo].[Orders] WITH NOCHECK ADD CONSTRAINT [PK_Orders] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ( [OrderID] ) ON [PRIMARY] GO ALTER TABLE [dbo].[Orders] WITH NOCHECK ADD CONSTRAINT [DF_Orders_Freight] DEFAULT (0) FOR [Freight]GO CREATE INDEX [CustomerID] ON [dbo].[Orders]([CustomerID]) ON [PRIMARY]GO CREATE INDEX [CustomersOrders] ON [dbo].[Orders]([CustomerID]) ON [PRIMARY]GO CREATE INDEX [EmployeeID] ON [dbo].[Orders]([EmployeeID]) ON [PRIMARY]GO CREATE INDEX [EmployeesOrders] ON [dbo].[Orders]([EmployeeID]) ON [PRIMARY]GO CREATE INDEX [OrderDate] ON [dbo].[Orders]([OrderDate]) ON [PRIMARY]GO CREATE INDEX [ShippedDate] ON [dbo].[Orders]([ShippedDate]) ON [PRIMARY]GO CREATE INDEX [ShippersOrders] ON [dbo].[Orders]([ShipVia]) ON [PRIMARY]GO CREATE INDEX [ShipPostalCode] ON [dbo].[Orders]([ShipPostalCode]) ON [PRIMARY]GO ALTER TABLE [dbo].[Orders] ADD CONSTRAINT [FK_Orders_Customers] FOREIGN KEY ( [CustomerID] ) REFERENCES [dbo].[Customers] ( [CustomerID] ), CONSTRAINT [FK_Orders_Employees] FOREIGN KEY ( [EmployeeID] ) REFERENCES [dbo].[Employees] ( [EmployeeID] ), CONSTRAINT [FK_Orders_Shippers] FOREIGN KEY ( [ShipVia] ) REFERENCES [dbo].[Shippers] ( [ShipperID] )GO
HiI'm trying to access the properties of my datasource programatically so I can change the stored procedure it connects to depending on the value of a querystringIn my page load I have Dim myMode = Request.Params("mode")Select Case myMode Case "Category" sqldatasource1.SelectCommand = "productsbycategory" sqldatasource1.SelectCommandType = SqlDataSourceCommandType.StoredProcedure ******'Need to add querystring parameter Case "Wishlist" sqldatasource1.SelectCommand = "productsbywishlist" sqldatasource1.SelectCommandType = SqlDataSourceCommandType.StoredProcedure ******'Need to add Session variable parameter Case Else sqldatasource1.SelectCommand = "allProducts" sqldatasource1.SelectCommandType = SqlDataSourceCommandType.StoredProcedureEnd SelectThe problem that I have is that I need to pass a parameter to the first 2 procedures above, a querystring to the first and a session variable to the second. How do I add parameters programaticallyMany thanks
Hi , Could anybody point me to an NT/DOS script ( e.g a batch file ) that could check if the MSSQL Server and SQL Server Agent Services are running ?
I am trying to write the following script to check for the status. Each of the following commands gives a 1 as output if the service is running and 0 if it is not. The problem I am facing is that I am not able to check the output after the command is executed. I am neither able to assign it to a variable or include the whole command in an IF statement.
net start | find /c /i "MSSQLServer" net start | find /c /i "SQLServerAgent"
Is there any other way to do this programmatically ? Any help is greatly appreciated.
I am trying to figure out a way to restore a database programatically. Here is how I do it now. Right click on the database, select Restore. Browse out to my computer and find the .BAK file. Select the database and go into 'Restore Options' I have to physically change the .MDF and .LOG paths since I am getting this backup is not coming from my computer. I select 'Overwrite the existing database' then click restore.
My problem is that I have to change the paths to the MDF and LOG files. How could I automate this? Thank you!!
