Programmatically Checking Whether Integration Service Is Running Or Not
May 10, 2007
I am building an application that uses .NET 2.0 transaction feature. Since .NET 2.0 transaction model uses SQL Server 2005 Integration services for its operation, I want to check from my application (.NET 2.0 code) whether the Integration service is running on SQL box or not? Is there a way in which we can accomplish this task?
I've got a report that shows the current status of sql activity on my servers for our ERP application. The one thing I've been wanting to do is to add the ability to check if a certain windows service on another server is running. Is this possible in Reporting Services 2005?
I am trying to call a SSIS package from a web service hosted on the same machine as the package file is sitting. The package is running fine from the Agent and also by the "Integration Services Project" in VS.NET.
I had a lot of problems with permissions but they are resolved, at least I have no error messages to point to that direction. Now I am getting these results:
1. Error: -1073659874 / Description: The file name "\Diver-svrInputDataFilesdn_cust.txt" specified in the connection was not valid.
Hi I am trying to run 4 - 5 store procedure in a strict order. I have created a SSIS package whereby I trying to execute store procedure in a orderly fashion. I have created constraints between them. Yet whenever I run the package - the store procedures run out of sequence. Is there something I can do to force the store procedure in orderly manner? Help will be much appreciated.
When my app starts up I want to ensure that the database compatibility level has been set to 90. I know about sp_dbcmptlevel, but that only seems to work in an interactive session; the documentation says it can't be used in a stored procedure, and that appears to be true. Does anyone know how I could read the database compatibility level in a stored proc?
Ideally I am looking for a procedure that I can call in T-SQL to verify that the Log Reader, Snapshot, and Sql Agents are all up and running on a given server. I found the undocumented sp_MSrepl_distributionagentstatussummary proc and got it to work for the distribution agent. I also found sp_MSrepl_agentstatusummary, but I've yet to get this to work. Overall, I'd really like to have a better way to do this.
This absolutely must be something callable from the sqlcmd interface. It can not be through a UI nor anthing more complicated than standard T-SQL.
All, if I were to write an app that has one task, determine whether ornot an SQL Instance is running, what would be the easist method forthis? I personally think that a query against the masterdb would dothe trick. I would appreciate any feedback you can provide.L
Quick question: how do I determine programmatically if a data driven subscription is currently running?
More info: I€™m writing a web application which allows the user to kick off an existing data driven subscription (reporting services 2000), which runs from a table with parameters, paths, etc which the user has populated. The subscription can take several minutes to run, during which time I need to prevent other users from attempting to run the subscription or alter data on the table driving the subscription. All I€™ve found in the docs so far is 1. The ActiveState on the subscription. This seems to have more to do with weather or not it can run than if it is running. 2. The status of the subscription. This seems to only return €śdone: {0} of {1} with {2} errors€? Parsing this is likely to be too flaky to be acceptable.
I really need to move on this as soon as possible, any help is appreciated.
Hello! I have the following problem. I developed CLR Stored Procedure "StartNotification" and deploy it on db. This sp calls external web service. Furthermore, this sp is called according with SQL Server Agent Job's schedule. On my PC SQL Server works under Local System account and this web service is called correctly (Executed as user: NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM). But on ther other server the following exception is raised during job running: Date 17.04.2007 16:42:10 Log Job History (FailureNotificationJob)
Step ID 1 Server MSK-CDBPO-01 Job Name FailureNotificationJob Step Name MainStep Duration 00:00:00 Sql Severity 16 Sql Message ID 6522 Operator Emailed Operator Net sent Operator Paged Retries Attempted 0
Message Executed as user: CORPmssqlserver. A .NET Framework error occurred during execution of user defined routine or aggregate 'StartNotification': System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Net.WebPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. What is the reason of this behaviour? Unfortunately I do not have direct access to this server. I have the following guesses: 1) CORPmssqlserver may have not enough permissions to call web service 2) Something wrong with SQL Server account's permissions 2) Something wrong with SQL Server Agent account's permissions I will take the will for the deed. Thanks.
How to design ta SSIS package which loops through DESTINATION folder files and checks whether that file is there in the SOURCE or not.
If the file exists then I have to check the modified date on DESTINATION file if it is greater than 1 day delete that file. If the modified date is less than that SOURCE file then I have to copy that
file to DESTINATION<o:p></o:p> Â <o:p></o:p>
If there are files which exists in SOURCE and not in DESTINATION, then how shall we copy all the files to the DESTINATION that are created on the day of execution of package.<o:p></o:p>
Microsoft recommends that you do not use the Network Service account to run the SQL Server service (see http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143504.aspx).
Can anyone tell me what the drawbacks are of doing this?
Hello Reporting Services 2005 users or Reporting Services Team, I have done everything to get pass this error but no luck. If you guys any solution for this please let me know. I was wondering could this be a scale-out deployment issue ?
I also get the error when setting up the DataBase Setup : Although saving the database connection info succeeded the The report server cannot access internal info about this deployment to determine whetherthe current con fig is valid for this editionThis could be a scale-out deployment and that the feature is not supported by this editionTo continue use a diff report server database or remove the encription keys

I have multiple SQL7 SP1 running on NT4.0SP5 Servers. When I start up the console, I recieve a message saying 'This service is not known to be running. Would you like to connect?'. I answer 'Yes' and everything seems to be working fine. Has anyone else seen this? Is it a problem or a bogus message? Any info will be helpful.
We have SQL Server 7.0 installed on a server which we didnt think it was installed on. Oops! How do I find out what SQL Server service pack is installed on the server, if any. I tried the following stored procedures to no avail. select @@version and xp_msver.
Hello, I am having a problem with my sql server agent service not working. I have done some research from earlier postings and still having no luck with getting it up and running.

I have reset the password for the 'sa' account and running it and got error: Error 18456: login failed for user Specify a different account to be used. But when I try it only provides me with the 'sa' account.
My primary goal is to run some DMP ion the databases that I have on the server.
I have a web service running on a sql server that I want to use to call a package on the same server. I create an application pool on IIS to use a configurable identity (IWAM_<ServerName>) and added this account to sql.
I have a question and problem.
Question:
Excluding specific tasks that I need the account to be able to run what are the minimum permissions this account needs to run a package (read access to MSDB?)?
Problem:
For the time being I have the IWAM account in sql added to the sysadmin server role and a server administrator. When I attempt to call the web service I receive "Object reference not set to an instance of an object". If I run the web service from my local machine the .Execute method of my package returns 1 (a constant of
DTSExecResult which indicates failure).
I have verbose logging on the package enabled but nothing gets logged. I looked in the server logs and don't see any relevent entries for application/security or system. Since the IWAM user has significant permissions I have no idea what else to look at.
Here is the scenario. I have the database running on host1 and the application running on host2. The DB is running in Windows Authentication mode.
When the application is run as user 'Administrator' on host2, it is able to connect to the database on host1. However, when the application is run as user 'SYSTEM' (this happens when the app is run as a windows service) it is not able to talk to the database.I tried something like:
create login [host1SYSTEM] from winodws
on the database server but looks like 'SYSTEM' is not a valid Windows username.
I wrote/built the whatever objects on the Integration Service (DTS or Data Transformation Service). There is one thing I couldn't figured out..
If I use the "Execute SQL Task" to get the two values in minimum year and maximum year. Then how can I use them to go with the 'Where' clause within the SQL Command (Query) to the "DataSource Reader" object? It doesn't look like it is possible so instead, what object should I use that will make this possible?
I had created a Intergration Service on my workstation computer, run as well. now i want to set a scheduling and run that Intergration Service on server, so should i deploy my Intergration Service to the server?
i had try to use my workstation computer, open the "SQL Server Management Studio" connect as "Intergration Services", and Import the dtsx file (Package file) in it. but if i had some modify on that dtsx file, i need import the dtsx file on the server again?
any another way to deploy my Intergration Service?
we run std 2008 r2. I'll be putting together a pkg whose last step needs to execute a program that resides on a remote (not same as where pkg runs) computer and that program must run on the remote computer. Return code(s) would be important to the pkg. I see talk about running over http which may or may not be possible with that remote ws 2003 sp2 server.
The pkg will be running on a ws 2008 r2 std sp1 machine.Does the community have any recommendations for running a remote program from ssis?
As I think about it, i'm not a big fan of making a pkg wait for another process synchronously. So I may just want to trigger the remote program and let something I would set up on the remote server tell me daily if the program succeeded. Interestingly this is a rewrite of a pentaho job that does wait for the remote program execution. I suppose installing ssis on that remote server is an option but I think i'd get a lot of resistance going that route. I'll probably be triggering a sql agent to ssis job after that remote program finishes.Â
Hello there,This is a bit of strange one.My local version of SQL Server fails to start when I boot yet if Istart Enterprise Manager its started and working fine. ISQL or QueryAnalyzer is also not working.If I try and register the server by another SQL Server is not there. Methinks that the named pipes might be a bit broken but would appreciateany advise from people.ThanksGinters
On the page http://www.microsoft.com/sql/editions/compact/default.mspx it is recomended that you dont use SQL Server Compact Edition if "you want to run as a service" - is this refering to the host application or to the fact the SQL Server Compact Edition is an embedded database rather than the more traditional SQL Server client/server architecture?
If its the former is this likely to change at any point in the future? Also what sort of problems are likely to occur if we did run it from within a windows service?
When I try to give myself administrative rights SQL presents me with the following error message:
TITLE: .Net SqlClient Data Provider------------------------------An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&EvtSrc=MSSQLServer&EvtID=2&LinkId=20476------------------------------BUTTONS:OK------------------------------
This isn't just only a problem with the administrative rights. This happens in many different places such as when I try and add a new data source in VB Express 2005 it gives approximately the same error message.
My MSSQLSERVER service is running nicely but my SQLSERVER isn't and on top of that I can't get it to start!
If anybody can help me out here I would really grateful.
I'm purely guessing this is related my SQLSERVER service not running but that is purely a guess. Getting back to the problem I have no clue how to fix it!
I'm a SQL 2005 developer DBA with a 1.5 years experience with SQL Server 2005. It has been a while since I needed to use SSIS. I used it with no problems earlier this year when I was managing the team conversion to SQL Server 2005. Now it no longer appears on my START > Programs > SQL Server 2005 menus. I had to reinstall SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005 months ago and must have lost it then some how.
How do I get access to BIDS and SSIS again?
SQL Server Integrated Services shows up in my Services list as running. I've already tried Add/Remove Programs to drop that component from SQL Server 2005, reboot, Add it back, reboot. I want to know whether the MSDE is already installed or not on my system using a C# program. I made a Java application to pre-process portuguese texts (stopwords, stemming, BOW creating, etc.)
I want to transform this application on a Integration Service component. I understand I will have to code this new component from zero. But I have no idea on how to start.
I'm reading and testing several tutorials on Integration Services that came with the SQL Server install package but none of them has clues on developing new components. These tutorials seams more focused on demostrate the (awesome) capabilities of Integration Services.
Is there any tutorials on how to implement new components to Integration Services ?
I am trying to move a flat file into a temporary table but the pre-execute phase looks for the table and fails the package. Is there away around this? I have set the connection RetainSameConnection to true but that doesn't appear to help in the dataflow.
I'm hoping someone has tried something similar before. I am trying to run an integration from a remote computer using a web service. I have set up the web service and the bog standard launch package routine works fine. What i'd like to be able to do is to launch a package and also specify any parameters associated with it. I have the following code which is identcal to the main launch sub with the exception of an extra argument (jagged array of varible name and value variablePair[4][2]). It also processes the variable array and sets them on the DTSPackage object.
[code] [WebMethod] public int LaunchSSISPackageWithVariables(string sourceType, string sourceLocation, string packageName, string[][] variableArray) { string packagePath; Package myPackage; Application integrationServices = new Application();
// Combine path and file name. packagePath = Path.Combine(sourceLocation, packageName);
switch (sourceType) { case "file": // Package is stored as a file. // Add extension if not present. if (String.IsNullOrEmpty(Path.GetExtension(packagePath))) { packagePath = String.Concat(packagePath, ".dtsx"); } if (File.Exists(packagePath)) { myPackage = integrationServices.LoadPackage(packagePath, null); } else { throw new ApplicationException("Invalid file location: " + packagePath); } break; case "sql": // Package is stored in MSDB. // Combine logical path and package name. //if (integrationServices.ExistsOnSqlServer(packagePath, ".", String.Empty, String.Empty)) if (integrationServices.ExistsOnSqlServer(packagePath, ".", "executeSSIS", "p4ssw0rd")) { //myPackage = integrationServices.LoadFromSqlServer(packageName, "(local)", String.Empty, String.Empty, null); myPackage = integrationServices.LoadFromSqlServer(packageName, "(local)", "executeSSIS", "p4ssw0rd", null); } else { throw new ApplicationException("Invalid package name or location: " + packagePath); } break; case "dts": // Package is managed by SSIS Package Store. // Default logical paths are File System and MSDB. if (integrationServices.ExistsOnDtsServer(packagePath, ".")) { myPackage = integrationServices.LoadFromDtsServer(packagePath, "localhost", null); } else { throw new ApplicationException("Invalid package name or location: " + packagePath); } break; default: throw new ApplicationException("Invalid sourceType argument: valid values are 'file', 'sql', and 'dts'."); }
//Variables var = myPackage.Variables; //foreach (string key in variablePairs.Keys) //{ // var[key].Value = variablePairs[key].ToString(); //}
Variables var = myPackage.Variables;
for (int i = 0; i < variableArray.Length; i++) { var[variableArray[0]].Value = variableArray[1].ToString(); }
return (Int32)myPackage.Execute(); } [/code]
For some reason the above code runs and passes back the value that it succeeded. Yet the package doesn't do what it should. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this might be the case or even a better way to pass the variables.
As part of Team Foundation Server the Integration Services are used. They are configured to start automatically but it doesn't. Status is "stopped". Trying to start the service manually fails too:
