I want to be able to return in a query the highest entries if an indiviuals initials & count from the table, so it would display some like this

I am looking to order this table by CardNo and then TransNo but i only want the query to display the record with the highest TransNo for each CardNo. In other words discard the records with the lower TransNo for each CardNo.
My desired result should hopefully look something like this:

Database 'TestSprintLD2' is read-only or has read-only files and must be made writable before it can be upgraded.
What command(s) are needed to make these files read_write?

I have a database of employees and pay rates.
One employee has two pay rates for two different jobs:
Job A: Rate $10.00
Job B: Rate $15.00
I will be updating their record so that they only have one job going forward, Job C. I need Job C to equal their HIGHER of the two existing jobs.
I have a select statement to find what the higher rate is. However, I am not sure how I can apply the rate to be the new job's rate. Here's what I used to find the highest rate for one single person:
SELECT max(rate), employeeID
FROM JobsTable
inner join IDTable
on JobsID2 = IDID2
WHERE JobCode in ('JOBA','JOBB')
and EmployeeID = '12345'
GROUP BY EmployeeID
(this returns the employee ID from one table, and the highest rate from Jobs A and B from another table)
I can get it to update to add JobC -- how can I get it to assign the result from the above query to be the rate used for Job C?
i have a database which get refreshed every day from client's data . and we need to pull heavy data from them every day as reports . so only selects happens on that database.
we do daily population of some table in some other databases from this daily refreshed DB.
will read uncommitted or NOLOCK with select queries to retrieve data faster.
there will be no dirty read as there are NO DML operation in that database so for SELECT which happens concurrently on these tables , will NOLOCK work?

I have a reference table. This table has an effective date and end date, and I need to get a single set of values at a point in time. Suppose the following hotel rating values are the values that I want to pull out of the table:
1 Star2 Star
3 Star
4 Star
5 Star
This value has other information associated with it (benchmarks and such) and so it's possible that one of the 2 star entries gets end-dated, and then a new 2 Star entry gets created with an effective date and no end date.
How can I query so that I only get one 2 Star entry at any point, and get the point in time where the date is between the effective and end date, but only pull back a single set of entries, one distinct rating value. So, suppose the first entry is end-dated 7/1, if I look at old data, I want to see the old benchmarks and so I want the previous entry end-dated 7/1; otherwise, I want to see the new end-date, with the new 2 star entry with no end date.
How do I do that? Make sense?
hi, i have a table where i need to update all entries (columns/rows) in 1 queryto make this one clear, if i have table_id firstname lastname1 clayton111 dylan1112 phoebe111 miller111 from the above example, i just want to eliminate all the 111 from the firstname, lastname fields, however, im not sure how to do that in a single query. i asked this because i have like 100 rows and each entries have "111" and i need to remove those. thanks

I have a database being populated by hits to a program on a server.The problem is each client connection may require a few hits in a 1-2second time frame. This is resulting in multiple database entries -all exactly the same, except the event_id field, which isauto-numbered.I need a way to query the record w/out duplicates. If I wanted to search for Jobs as a particular status (e.g. 0130) and wanted to keep the jobs at this status until it has reached 0500, 0125, or 0900 in it's subsequent status log entry, how can I write the SQL for it to achieve it?
I have the following SQL which searches for the Jobs at 0130, but don't know how to develop it further to search on the requirement above.

Hi all.. I've been scouring the forums for about 6 hours to no
avail. This is a really simple question. I'm trying to have
a registration page that lets the user input name, email, desired
username, and password. I want to check the username and email
fields to make sure ppl cannot sign up twice. So from what I've
gathered I have a couple of options:
1) i can set up a unique constraint on the database columns,
2) i can run a select statement before inserting,
3) i can store the whole database column in a variable then search through it.
My question is how to do option 2? All of my transactions are through a sqldatasource object in c#.

Is there a way to link an Access 97 database to a SQL database which would get updated as changes in the Access 97 database take place? In fact, the SQL database will be just a copy of an Access database. If there were changes made to the fields in the Access database these changes should be made to the entries in the SQL database as well.

I just found out that one of my user database was missen from the sysdatabases entries. The database was missen from the EM and I queried the sysdatabases table but found nothing. The data and log files are intact in the hard drive directory.
Is this a bug or what?

I'm taking a database(read-only) backup from one server and restoring it on other server. As soon as restore is done it is bringing database into single-user read-only mode.
why it is bringing the database into single user mode ?
I'm new to ASP.NET (I normally work with Windows Forms) and have installed the Club Website Starter Kit. I created an Administrators role and a user called "admin". When I run the project locally, everything works as it should - I can log in as admin and I can create new users.
I then copied the site to localhost (C:Inetpubwwwroot), but when I run the site from localhost, I can't log in (as admin or any other user); instead I get a message that says, "Your login attempt was not successful. Please try again."

I figure there must be a simple(?) explanation and solution for this problem, and ideally, some sort of step-by-step procedure that new users to ASP.NET can follow to configure a site - such as one of the starter kits - to work correctly. I can honestly say that trying to get this working has been an extremely frustrating experience.

Hi there,I am getting a real problem with ASP.NET 2.0, all i am trying to do is run a recovert password (using the login controls) and i got the following error.Does anybody know how to fix this? I don't need to copy my files to the IIS directory below as that is where i have created it and open it in VS 2005 from there..I did read that if you use IIS 5.1 then the user should be ASPNET ... but i don't seem to have that use but a Network Services user...Any help or guidance would be really appreciated... i have come to a stop stage and can't get any further..Thanksian

When I try to accessd data from the db, it works with no problems.
When I try to insert/update/delete, I get the following error message

I am using a connection string with the following syntax:

I have made sure that the permissions on the DB are set (in Windows) so

I have seen others experience the same problem - with ASP.net sites,
not Windows Forms sites (thus most of their solutions dont apply to me)
Any ideas on what is wrong and how I can get this to work?

how can read file size in sql query
I use excel as an interface to write query to retrieve data from a database in network drive. My problem is everyone can open and edit my query. Of course, the univeral database access user name and password will ask but everyone know this.
How can I put password to prevent any query modification?

getting this error after publishing my site to local IIS, then trying my signup page.

have tryed to change the attributes, still not working. have given write access to the APP_DATA folder from IIS, still not working.
and i cannot delete the APP_DATA folder from IIS, it says it is being used by another process or program. how to fix this? and or delete the folder?
