Query Individual Records Within A Table

May 21, 2002

Please can someone advise me on how I can create a statement that will query each individual row within a table.

As the data will vary month by month I'm unable to state the amount of rows that will need to be queried.

An Overview:
We have web-based application with a SQL back-end. When changes are made to a record a copy of that info is sent to another table (a quick snapshot, name, date, number, department etc.). At the end of the month I need to apply this data to an imported itemised phone bill so that I can make sure that if the mobile phone had been reallocated to another person I can change the cost accordingly.
As it stands the operator has to print a copy of the phone details before reallocating to another person. Then at the end of the month manually changes the data within the itemised bill by referring to the printouts. Ideally I would prefer to automate the whole process.

Please find below the script - its very much in its infancy!!

CREATE PROCEDURE sp_reallocate AS
select * from tbl_mobile_reallocate
order by allocation_change_date

update tbl_mobile_import
set empno = tbl_mobile_reallocate.empno from tbl_mobile_reallocate
where tbl_mobile_import.mobno = tbl_mobile_reallocate.mobno
and tbl_mobile_import.invoice_date <= tbl_mobile_reallocate.change_date

update tbl_mobile_reallocate
set status = 'Closed'
GO

Creating Table From 3 Different Individual Tables

Jan 28, 2013

In SQL Server, I need to create a table from 3 different individual tables. I am new to the SQL Scene, so i want to know the best way to go about this. Each table has different fields, so that is making it difficult (at least for me). How about creating 1 table, that is composed of 3 other tables?

I know this is bad practice, but our District Manager wants to see production for his 'team' and whoever set this up back in the beginning gave each individual employee a different table, with custom fields (Why?!?!?!?!) so now I am trying to merge those 3 into 1, but want to get some insight on the best way to do this since there are different fields in each table and the merged (or master) table needs to have all of those fields.

Assign Permissions For Individual Table.

Jan 15, 2008

A login named UserLogin1 has db_dataReader and db_dataWriter roles, and three schemas which are db_owner, dbUser1, and dbUser2 in a database named Database1. I wanted to have some tables for read-only, so I right clicked on the table and select properties. In the Permissions tab, I added UserLogin1 and checked Alter, Delete, Insert, Take Ownership, and Update under Deny. It worked for schema dbo only. I did the same steps for the tables that have schema dbUser1 or dbUser2, but UserLogin1 I added didn't stay. Why? How can I make those tables read-only?

Thanks.

Filtering Individual Columns In A Table

May 5, 2008

I'm designing a sales report. The user would like to be able to look at individual customers against total sales in a report.

I have a parameter that will allow the user to select from a list of customers. Then I need a column that will show that customers sales and the next column will show total sales. If I filter the data set by Customer I will only get that customer's sales. Can I filter on individual columns?

I tried something like

=Sum(IIF(Fields!Name.Value=Parameters!VendorName.Label,Fields!Coil_Weight.Value/code.Expon(Parameters!Units.Value),0))in the expression but that doesn't seem to work.

Query To Return Records Where One Table Is Void Of Linked Data In Another Table

Feb 13, 2008

I have two tables that share a common identity row. I need to build a query where data that exists in one table does not contain data in the other table. For example, table 1 has columns of Owner_ID, LastName, FirstName and table 2 has columns Auto_ID, Owner_ID, AutoMake. Both tables are joined by the Owner_ID column. I need a query that provides all owners from table 1 who do not have an entry in table 2.

Thanks in advance,

Query To Retrieve Records That Sum To A Field In Another Table

I really need creating a query that will retreive all records from a table where the dbo.CorpAdv.AcctNum field equals a specific value (for this example "0023"), the TranCode = "R" and the sum of the records, starting with the latest, equals the value of a field in another table (dbo.Master.TotalAdv)

dbo.Master.TotalAdv is numeric (dollar amount) and in this example the value is $1,850.00

dbo.CorpAdv.pID is an integer and unique ID for each record, later records have higher numbers
dbo.CorpAdv.AcctNum is text field
dbo.CorpAdv.AdvAmt is numeric (dollar amounts)

Enterprise Manager Cannot Display Table Records Or Run Query

Jul 23, 2005

I have a new installation of SQL Server 2000 Dev Edition on a Win2K3 Standard Edition Server that I used for development. I just set this machine up in th last week and installed all Win2K3 patches and then installed SQL2K and SP3a. I have a single named instance. I just noticed today that I cannot view table data or use the Query part of EM. When I right click a table and select Open Table->Return All Rows it gives me an error dialog "An unexpected error happened during this operation". While the EM is diplaying this dialog the EM screen looks like Internet Explorer and says "Action Canceled - You might not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied." I believe that this is a EM issue as I cannot view table content on other remote server. ANy ideas? Might this be an IE security patch disallowing some connectivity ?--Frank--Message posted via http://www.sqlmonster.com

How To Automatically Create New Records In A Foreign Table When Inserting Records In A Primary Table.

Sep 13, 2006

Ok, I'm really new at this, but I am looking for a way to automatically insert new records into tables.  I have one primary table with a primary key id that is automatically generated on insert and 3 other tables that have foreign keys pointing to the primary key.  Is there a way to automatically create new records in the foreign tables that will have the new id?  Would this be a job for a trigger, stored procedure?  I admit I haven't studied up on those yet--I am learning things as I need them. Thanks.

Need Efficient Query To Partition Records By Type And Pull Top N Records From DB

Jan 18, 2008

I have a query similar to the following. The intent of this query is to retrieve the top 6 records meeting the specified criteria (LOGTYPENAME = 'Process Status Start' OR LOGTYPENAME = 'Process Status End' ) based on most recent dates. Please keep in mind that I expect to return up to 6 records for each unique LogProcessName. This could be thousands of different LogProcessNames with up to 6 records for each.

1) The table I am executing against currently is very large in size and thus takes a long time to execute against. It would seem there must be a more efficient query to get the results I am looking for?
2) CTE doesn't work on SQL 2000. I need a query that does.
3) I cannot modify the database itself in the process.

;WITH cte AS (
SELECT [LogProcessName], [LogBody], [LogDate], [LogGUID], row_number()
OVER(PARTITION BY [LogProcessName]
ORDER BY [LogDate] DESC)
AS RN
FROM [LOGTABLE]
WHERE [LogTypeGUID] IN (
SELECT LogTypeGUID
FROM LOGTYPE
WHERE LogTypeName = 'Process Status Start'
OR LogTypeName = 'Process Status End' ) )
SELECT *
FROM cte
WHERE RN = 1 OR RN = 2 OR RN = 3 OR RN = 4 OR RN = 5 OR RN = 6
ORDER BY [LogProcessName] DESC, [LogDate] DESC

Does anybody else have any idea that would yield the results that I am looking for and take into account items 1-3 above?

Thanks in advance.

Deleting Old Records Is Blocking Updating Latest Records On Highly Transactional Table

Mar 18, 2014

I have a situation where deleting old records is blocking updating latest records on highly transactional table and getting timeout errors from application.

In details, I have one table called Tran_table1 in OLTP database. This Tran_table1 is highly transactional table, it will receive data for insert/update continuously

While archiving 2 years old records from Tran_table1 into Tran_table1_archive in batches(using DELETE OUTPUT INTO clause), if there is any UPDATEs on Tran_table1,these updates are getting blocked and result is timeout errors in application.

Is there any SQL Server hints to avoid blocking ..

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Renumbering Remaining Records In A Table After Some Records Deleted

Dec 3, 2014

I have a table with about half a million records, each representing a patient in my county.

Each record has a field (RRank) which basically sorts the patients as to how "unwell" they are according to a previously-applied algorithm. The most unwell patient has an RRank of 1, the next-most unwell has RRank=2 etc.

I have just deleted several hundred records (which relate to patients now deceased) from the table, thereby leaving gaps in the RRank sequence. I want to renumber the remaining recs to get rid of the gaps.

I can see what I want to accomplish by using ROW_NUMBER, thus:

SELECT ROW_NUMBER() Over (ORDER BY RRank) as RecNumber, RRank
FROM RPL
ORDER BY RRank

I see the numbers in the RecNumber column falling behind the RRank as I scan down the results

My question is: How to convert this into an UPDATE statement? I had hoped that I could do something like:

UPDATE RISC_PatientList_TEMP
SET RRank = ROW_NUMBER() Over (ORDER BY RRank);

but the system informs that window functions will only work on SELECT (which UPDATE isn't) or ORDER BY (which I can't legally add).

Restore Individual Filegroups

Aug 25, 2000

I am trying to restore from a backup of an individual filegroup in SQL Server 7.0. I have backed up the individual filegroups, and I want to restore one of them (not the whole database). The process in EM is almost the same as restoring the entire database, only you choose the radio button 'Filegroups' and the files/filegroups you want to restore.

The restoration appears to complete sucessfully, but afterward, my database seems to be permanently loading. In other words, in EM the database is greyed out and you cannot use it anymore. It stays like this until you drop the database altogether. Is this a bug? Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone have experience restoring from filegroups sucessfully???

Retrieving Individual Characters

Mar 6, 2008

Here's my two tables:

tblClients
--------------------------------------------------
ClientID (varchar(3)) | ClientName (varchar(100))
--------------------------------------------------
001 | First
002 | Second

tblProjects
---------------------------------------------------
ProjectID (varchar(6)) | ProjectName (varchar(100))
---------------------------------------------------
001001 | First Project1
001002 | First Project2
002001 | Second Project1
002002 | Second Project2

As you can see, the ClientID is the first 3 digits of the ProjectID, signifying that a certain project belongs to that client. I know it's a bad design, but I can't change the DB, I have to use it.

The problem is that I need to join the two tables based on the ClientID, but I don't know how to just retrieve the first 3 numbers in the ProjectID.

I need something like:
tblClients INNER JOIN tblProjects ON
tblClients.ClientID = tblProjects.First3DigitsOfTheProjectID

Union V Individual Calls

Aug 18, 2007

Suppose my database has 3 table A though C and I need to get the number of records in each. I could do it as individual selects like
SELECT 'A' AS 'Table', COUNT(*) AS 'Count' FROM A
SELECT 'B' AS 'Table', COUNT(*) AS 'Count' FROM B
SELECT 'C' AS 'Table', COUNT(*) AS 'Count' FROM C

or
SELECT 'A' AS 'Table', COUNT(*) AS 'Count' FROM A
UNION
SELECT 'B' AS 'Table', COUNT(*) AS 'Count' FROM B
UNION
SELECT 'C' AS 'Table', COUNT(*) AS 'Count' FROM C

Is there any problem in unioning statements like these? In reality there were over a hundred tables and the TSQL was generated by looping through SYSOBJECTS. I eventually used the first construct as the XML was simpler to generate.

SQL Server 2012 :: Join To Find All Records From One Table That Do Not Exist In Other Table

Apr 29, 2014

I have table 'stores' that has 3 columns (storeid, article, doc), I have a second table 'allstores' that has 3 columns(storeid(always 'ALL'), article, doc). The stores table's storeid column will have a stores id, then will have multiple articles, and docs. The 'allstores' table will have 'all' in the store for every article and doc combination. This table is like the master lookup table for all possible article and doc combinations. The 'stores' table will have the actual article and doc per storeid.

What I am wanting to pull is all article, doc combinations that exist in the 'allstores' table, but do not exist in the 'stores' table, per storeid. So if the article/doc combination exists in the 'allstores' table and in the 'stores' table for storeid of 50 does not use that combination, but store 51 does, I want the output of storeid 50, and what combination does not exist for that storeid. I will try this example:

'allstores' 'Stores'
storeid doc article storeid doc article
ALL 0010 001 101 0010 001
ALL 0010 002 101 0010 002
ALL 0011 001 102 0011 002
ALL 0011 002

So I want the query to pull the one from 'allstores' that does not exist in 'stores' which in this case would the 3rd record "ALL 0011 001".

What's The Accepted Way To Retrieve Records In A SQL Table With Null Values Using A Visual Studio 2005 Table Adapter?

Jan 21, 2008

I'm using an ObjectDataSource in Visual Studio to retrieve records from a SQL Server 2005 database.
I have a very simple dilemma.  In a table I have fields FirstName, Surname, Address1, Address2, Address3 etc. None of these are mandatory fields.
It is quite common for the user not to enter data in Address2, Address3, so the values are <null> in the SQL table.
In Visual Studio 2005 I have an aspx form where users can pass search parameters to the ObjectDataSource and the results are returned according to the passed in parameters.
The WHERE clause in my Table Adapter is:WHERE (Address1 LIKE @Address1 + '%') AND (Address2 LIKE @Address2 + '%') AND   (Address3 LIKE @Address3 + '%') AND (FirstName LIKE @FirstName + '%') AND (Surname LIKE @Surname + '%')
If, for example, I simply want to search WHERE FirstName LIKE ‘R’, this does not return any results if the value of Address3 is <null>
My query is this: Could someone please show me the best way in Visual Studio 2005 to return records even if one of the Address fields is <null>.
For reference, I have tried: Address3 LIKE @Address3 + '%' OR IS NULLThis does work, however itsimply returns every instance where Address3 is <null>  (accounting for about 95% of the records in the database). Thanks in advance Simon
