Query To Find Databases In Full Mode

May 4, 2007

I have a stored proc that runs through my databases doing transaction logs. Currently it uses database names but this keeps being changed as a database will be added without me knowing. Next thing the transaction log job is goosed.

I really need something along the lines of select db from sys???? where mode = 'Full'

Any help appreciated.

System Databases In Full Recovery Mode

Mar 6, 2006

Hi

What are the pros and cons of putting the system databases in full recovery mode
I am asked by my manager to keep everything simple and uniform.We have all the user databases in Full recovery mode and he wants all the system databases as well to be full recovery mode.
I would like to get the points where in i can argue that, there is no point in having the system databases in full recovery mode.Unfortunately i dont see anything related to this in BOL or internet.

Plz help

Thanks
Sreenath

Query Executes Faster In Grid Mode Than In Text Mode!!

Mar 9, 2000

Hello,everyone!!

There is a query which when executed in the grid mode(ctrl+d) takes approx 0.02 seconds(about 21,000
rows) But when I execute in the text mode, it takes about 0.40 seconds!!
Why is this difference?
Also, when the records from this table are read from a VB application, they are equally slow (as in the text mode!)
Why is it so slow on the text mode & relatively faster in the grid mode?
Has anyone got any idea on Firehose style cursor ?(which may speed up access of data in the VB application)

Rgds,
Adie

Databases Starting Up In Read-only Mode.

Jul 25, 2000

Hi,

About a month ago, a couple of our databases started up in read-only mode for some reason. I am the new DBA on the job, and the error logs from a month ago are not present.

I was wondering if anyone has had a problem where a SQLServer 7.0 database did this to them? We restart our DBs each day using scripts, so it is odd that this happens only intermittently (no one has seen a pattern at this point).

Any information would be muc appreciated!

Thanks,

Joe

Full Text Search For Find Methods

Nov 10, 2006

Hello,I have to  implement a method FindProduct, which takes a parameter search query and returns product based on the query.I think i can use full text search here but don't know how. I tried to read a various way but could not figure out. 1

3 [DataObjectMethodAttribute(DataObjectMethodType.Select,true)]
4 public DataLayer.shopDBDataSet.ProductsDataTable GetProducts()
5 {
6 return Adapter.GetProducts();
7 }
8
9 [DataObjectMethodAttribute(DataObjectMethodType.Insert, true)]
10 public bool AddProduct(string UPCCode, string Description, string Size)
11 {
12 shopDBDataSet.ProductsDataTable products = new shopDBDataSet.ProductsDataTable();
13 shopDBDataSet.ProductsRow productRow = products.NewProductsRow();
14
15 productRow.UPCCode = UPCCode;
16 productRow.Description = Description;
17 productRow.Size = Size;
18
19 products.AddProductsRow(productRow);
20 int rowsAffected = Adapter.Update(products);
21 return rowsAffected == 1;
22 }
23
24 [DataObjectMethodAttribute(DataObjectMethodType.Delete, true)]
25 public bool DeleteProduct(string UPCCode)
26 {
27 int rowsAffected = Adapter.Delete(UPCCode);
28 return rowsAffected == 1;

32 public DataLayer.shopDBDataSet.ProductsDataTable FindProducts(string searchQuery)
33 {
34
35 throw new System.NotImplementedException();

  You can see the method at line number 32.  I could not figure out the way to implement it although i know full text search is a good choice.I have following table adapterGetProducts(); GetProductsByManufacturerName(); GetProductsByManufacturerID(), and GetProductsByUPCCode();Product table contains  UPCCode, Description, Size columnsBut i need to get the product which returns the description containing search query. I know some of you have done something similar to this. Apr 3, 2007

Hi, my first question, tried to use search first but couldnät find what I need.

Hopefully someone has asuggestion.

I work for a ISV producing HR applications.

When user starts the applications the program shows all databases that the user have access to. This is done by select all names from master..sysdatabases and then trying to "USE dbname" to see if user have access,. Users doesn't have sa rights.

This procedure takes approximately 90 secs for a server with 500 databases and that has become a problem.

Does anyone know off a faster method, any suggestions?

My Result expectation is: The  First Record should come. But the result of the query bring the two records. It see the "SQL Server" string also. I need to find the exact word. How to do it? Please answer me as soon as possible. Ganesh.

SQL 2012 :: How To Check For Successful Full Backups On Availability Group Databases

Apr 20, 2015

I am setting up Availability Groups and I want to use the secondary replica to perform the full copy_only backups to reduce the load on the primary replica.But what is the best way to check for successful full backups on Availability Group databases?

Previously I could check the system table msdb.dbo.backupset but this is not available for copy_only backups.So I wonder how people are monitoring that their full backups have been successful?

Do you just check that the SQL Agent job that runs the backup was successful?

Or do you search the SQL Server Error Log for entries like "Database backed up. Database: xxx" where database xxx is in an Availability Group?

Or is there a better method?

SQL Server 2008 :: Test Backup Restores (full And Log) - Restore Databases Automatically?

Apr 4, 2015

I am working towards automating the process of testing our backups. For the meantime, I do it all manually - I copy the backup files (full + transaction logs) to our test server and then run the restore script. Once database restored I run the DBCC CheckDB. The results of checkdb I manually upload to our Sharepoint portal as proof that the backup file is intact with no errors.

here are some ideas I have but have not yet tested:

Create a maintenance plan with each 3 jobs:

--> Powershell script to copy the files from Prod server to Test server - add this scrip to Job1
--> Powershell script to restore databases files - add this script to Job2
--> Run the DBCC in powershell (yet to find if possible in PS) - add this script to Job3

I would like to use seperate jobs as to get a report on the duration and status of each job

Would also like to get the results of the DBCC Checkdb as proof that no errors were found for upload to our Sharepoint portal. Dont know if possible via the job.

Using A Regular Expression In MSSQL 2005 To Find Patterns Buried In A Field Full Of Misc Data

Feb 29, 2008

Thanks in advanace for taking the time to read this post.
I am using MSSQL 2005 and have created a function that allows me to use regular expressions in my SQL queries.
My question is I have a pattern buried in a field of misc data that I need to pull out just that pattern and discard the rest of the data.  Here is the Regular Expression I am using
select field1 from table1
where dbo.RegExMatch (field1,'[a-zA-Z]{4}[0-9]{6}[a-zA-Z]{2,4}')=1
This returns all values in the field that match the expression.  What I want to do now is remove all data from the field on the left and right of the expression that does not match the expression.  How would I accomplish this without reading through the 200k+ records and writing rules for every exception I run across?
so I could have Gar  b/a ge 'THE GOOD DATA' m/or1   ba4d da....ta.  All I want to do is return 'THE GOOD DATA'

OVER Is Not Supported In Query Wizard Mode

Jul 15, 2007

I'm using VS 2005, and I built a website with a TableAdapter method using the wizard.I hand wrote a line of code: 1 WITH srtAS
2 (
3 SELECT *,
4 ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY date DESC) AS 'RowNumber'
5 FROM table1
6 )
7 SELECT *
8 FROM srt
9 WHERE RowNumber BETWEEN @start AND @end; I didn't find any syntax errors, but the Wizard keeps alerting "the over sql construct or statement is not supported." From my research, I found that it's caused by the Wizard that doesnt support some syntax. Afterall, the problem is:1. I have two parameters @start AND @end. normally if there is no "syntax error", then it will show in the TableAdapter: GetData(@Start,@end). But now since there is this "Syntax error", I won't load these two parameters.2. I saw some solutions to this "syntax error" problem, and they suggested to write query manually, don't use wizard. But I don't know how.  thanks in advance-noPC-
