Query To Find Rows Where A Field &"Begins With&"

Dec 4, 2006

Derek writes "I'm totally new to SQL and need some help.

I need to write a query that will return rows where a specific field begins with a selected string.
Example:
My table is called rf_log

I want to see all rows where the PACKSLIP begins with 'ORD000888'

I tried:
Select *
from rf-log
where PACKSLIP like 'ORD000888'

This returns only rows where the packslip is = ORD000888

I need to see all rows where the packslip begins with ORD000888.
So packslip ORD000888-0, ORD000888-1 and ORD000888-2 should also be returned.

Many thanks."

Group By Query To Find Duplicate Field Value

Jul 23, 2001

Hello,

Not sure how to do this. I think I need to use a Group By query. I have a "Products" table with the following fields:

Program#
Number
UPC
Item
Item#
Size
Dept

Everything is specific to the Program#. In other words, for every instance of a Program# there can be more than one Product, which is specified by the "Number" field. So: SELECT * FROM Product WHERE [Program#] = '12345' should return this:

12345 | 1 | 000012345678 | Cookies | 98765 | 12ct | Retail |
12345 | 2 | 000012345678 | Cake | 98765 | 12ct | Retail |
12345 | 3 | 000012345678 | Ice Cream | 98765 | 12ct | Retail |

However, some recordsets are returning like this:

12345 | 1 | 000012345678 | Cookies | 98765 | 12ct | Retail
12345 | 1 | 000012345678 | Cake | 98765 | 12ct | Retail
12345 | 2 | 000012345678 | Ice Cream | 98765 | 12ct | Retail

In which case I have to fix them (the "Number" field) with an update query sp they are numbered sequentially. Luckily, this doesn't happen very often.

Can someone help me with a query that will return only those records with duplicate values in the "Number" field? I am not sure how to construct this query which I will use as a stored procedure.

TIA,

Transact SQL :: Find Unique Rows In Column That Are Associated With Another Field In Another Column?

May 1, 2015

I am having issues trying to write a query that would provide me the unique GUID numbers associated with a distinct PID if the unique GUID's > 1.  To summarize, I need a query that just shows which PID's have more than one unique GUID. A PID could have multiple GUID's that are the same, I'm looking for the PID's that have multiple GUID's that are different/unique.

Table1

GUID PID
GUID1 PID1
GUID1 PID1
GUID1 PID1
GUID2 PID1
GUID3 PID2
GUID3 PID2
GUID3 PID2

The result of the query would only have PID1 because it has two unique GUID's. PID2 would not be listed has it has the same GUID3 in each row.

Result:

PID1

The Log In This Backup Set Begins At LSN...

Aug 16, 2004

Hi,

I am trying to backup a database (FULL) and subsequent logs and trying to restore them onto another database. I successfully backed up the FULL database and 6 subsequent logs.

When I tried to restore them onto the target database, the restore of the FULL backup succeeded and the next 4 log restores succeeded.

When I attempted the 5th log restore, I got the following error:

The log in this backup set begins at LSN 22000000035900001, which is too late to apply to the database. An earlier log backup that includes LSN 22000000035000001 can be restored.

Any help on this will be highly appreciated.

Is There A 'Where Column Begins With Whatever' Action In SQL?

Jul 5, 2005

I want to pull up records where the record begins with a letter. I have
a customer table and I want to pull up all customers whose names
BeginWith whatever letter.I was wondering if Sql had anything along
these lines, like:
"Select * From Customers Where Name Begins With A"

I know that is not a function in Sql, but I was wondering if there was
something like that, or if there is a better way to do this.

Thanks!

SP To Find A Gap In A Number Field

Feb 13, 2008

I have a part number field which contains whole numbers. (1 - 5000+) however there are gaps in the numbers e.g. Part Number 3876 maybe missing. The table has new parts inserted from a VB Client. Im trying to write a stored procedure where when a user trys to run an update without entering a part number the first missing part number is found. If they do provide a part number then their number is committed as long as it is unique. I've tried using cursors but am not sure on the best approach. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Find Out Who Deleted Rows?

Jan 20, 2004

Yesterday, I had an occurence where someone (one of our developers :) ) deleted many vital rows in a database. I was able to recover via a backup but I'd like to see what was run to delete those rows, when and who if possible? I have the transaction log and the _log.ldf.

Can I read those somehow to find out this information? I have since added auditing to said tables, but I'd really like to go back and see what happened?

I do know about Lumigent, but is there a different production/solution?

Thoughts?

Thank you

Find And List Duplicate Rows

from [aren1002].[BOOKING]
as t1 inner join [aren1002].[BOOKING]
as t2
on t1.last_name=t2.last_name and t1.booking_id<>t2.booking_id
where t1.booking_status_id = 330
order by last_name asc

Sample data:
3927 Greg Smith greg@emailno1.com 303
5012 John Smith greg@emailno1.com 303
6233 John Smith greg@emailno1.com 303
4880 Dulcie Abuud dulcie@theiremail.com 303

However it is listing the non duplicate rows, For example: The record with Abuud as the last name, doesn't have any duplicates in the table, so I don't want it listed.

The data should be like this:

5012 John Smith greg@emailno1.com 303
6233 John Smith greg@emailno1.com 303

How To Find A Field In Case Insensitive Using GetVirtualInputColumnByName

Jan 22, 2008

Hello Experts,

I tried to retreive an input column using GetVirtualInputColumnByName, to map it with output, it gave error. I found that it is because the value passed bstrName parameter was in different case. say for example in the column it is "ColNo1" where as in the GetVirtualInputColumnByName i used "Colno1".

Can anyone tell, Is there anyway to find the column in a case in-sensitive way?

Thanks.
