Query To Return Records Where One Table Is Void Of Linked Data In Another Table
Feb 13, 2008
I have two tables that share a common identity row. I need to build a query where data that exists in one table does not contain data in the other table. For example, table 1 has columns of Owner_ID, LastName, FirstName and table 2 has columns Auto_ID, Owner_ID, AutoMake. Both tables are joined by the Owner_ID column. I need a query that provides all owners from table 1 who do not have an entry in table 2.
Can Somebody please show me how to acheive this, using the order details in Northwinddatabase or any other good example. as much details as possible. Many Thanks!
Hi,I used sp_addlinkedserver to link to a remote server through ODBC.When I execute select count(*) from LinkSrv.SI.DBO.SIHeader in SQL QueryAnalyzer. It returns 13705 records. But when I execute select * fromLinkSrv.SI.DBO.SIHeader. It only return 885 records. If I specify somecolumns, select ODCOMP, ODPONO, ODVDCD from LinkSrv.SI.DBO.SIHeader.It returns more records, 1213 records.I guess there is something limit the return storage, but I can notfind it.Any suggestion will be appreciated. Thank you
Both are related through vacation_id. Every vacation however has many pictures. I need a query where the result would give me back all records (vacations) from Table 1 with only 1 record from Table 2(one image per vacation).
I have a Issue table which stores the below data for many issue. some issue are duplicate to other and they are stored in a field Duplicate_of
ID Duplicate_of State
77637 65702 Duplicate
65702 42217 Duplicate
42217 - Verified
i wanted to write a query or some stored procedure when passed 77637 should help me get 42217.
Hint : 77637 when passed has field Duplicate_of which point to 65702 and his state will be Duplicate, 65702 will be duplicate to 42217 and state will be duplicate and 44217 is not duplicate to anything and state will be other then Duplicate
i appreciate if somebody can help me think in some line to give me some idea.

hi to all, i have written SQL-CLR function using C# which will perform some manupulation and will not not return any value(return type is void) i am creating sql function using SQL script
CREATE FUNCTION dbo.Amex ()
RETURNS NULL
AS CALLER
WITH EXECUTE
AS
EXTERNAL
NAME [AMEX].[UserDefinedFunctions].[Function1];
GO
but i am getting error. there is something wrong in my sql syntax..can anybody help me?
when creating funtion having signature
public static void Function1()
i am getting error....................... Error 1 The method "Function1" in class "UserDefinedFunctions" marked as a user defined function must return a scalar value or ISqlReader. SqlServerProject1
Strange one here - I am posting this in both SQL Server and Access forums
Access is telling me it can't append any of the records due to a key violation.
The query:
INSERT INTO dbo_Colors ( NameColorID, Application, Red, Green, Blue ) SELECT Colors_Access.NameColorID, Colors_Access.Application, Colors_Access.Red, Colors_Access.Green, Colors_Access.Blue FROM Colors_Access;
Colors_Access is linked from another MDB and dbo_Colors is linked from SQL Server 2000.
There are no indexes or foreign contraints on the SQL table. I have no relationships on the dbo_ table in my MDB. The query works if I append to another Access table. The datatypes all match between the two tables though the dbo_ tables has two additional fields not refrenced in the query.
I can manually append the records using cut and paste with no problems.
Here is the scenario, I have 2 stored procedures, SP1 and SP2
SP1 has the following code:
declare @tmp as varchar(300) set @tmp = 'SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET ( ''SQLOLEDB'', ''SERVER=.;Trusted_Connection=yes'', ''SET FMTONLY OFF EXEC ' + db_name() + '..StoredProcedure'' )'
EXEC (@tmp)
SP2 has the following code:
SELECT * FROM SP1 (which won't work because SP1 is a stored procedure. A view, a table valued function, or a temporary table must be used for this)
Views - can't use a view because they don't allow dynamic sql and the db_name() in the OPENROWSET function must be used. Temp Tables - can't use these because it would cause a large hit on system performance due to the frequency SP2 and others like it will be used. Functions - My last resort is to use a table valued function as shown:
FUNCTION MyFunction ( ) RETURNS @retTable ( @Field1 int, @Field2 varchar(50) ) AS BEGIN -- the problem here is that I need to call SP1 and assign it's resulting data into the -- @retTable variable
-- this statement is incorrect, but it's meaning is my goal INSERT @retTableSELECT *FROM SP1
I have an incident reporting management application. People are supposed to report incidents by this application and every time some one reports an incident, they also select thier employee#(reqiured field). so how can write an sql statement that returns only the Top 5 incident reporters i.e going by employee number. Iam thinking of applying a COUNT function on the incident_id and grouping by Employee# but then how do i make sure that only the top 5 incident reporters are returned.
I have an unusual problem. I am using VB.Net 2003 and sqlexpress using .NET dataset to insert records into an timecards table. After inserting several records I tried a 'Select * from timecards' and the inserted records where not selected. if I 'select * from timecards order by employee' ( or any other field) the inserted records are selected! The table was created by an Access Upsize command.
I used Express Manager ( XM ) to try the select statements. That is how I isolated the problem. Even using a "Select * from timecards where employee = 'test' " returns the inserted test records. I found that if I use a WHERE or ORDER BY clause in the SELECT statement to .fill the .net dataset, all records are returned.
I am familiar with DB2 but I am a newbie at VB.NET and MSSQL
I want to write a function, which accept 3 parameters, 1 TableName 2 ColumnName 3 DateValue, and returns number of records in that table for that particular date(in parameter date), I have written below function but it is not returning the desired result.
CREATE FUNCTION dbo.[f_Rec_cnt] (@InTableName NVARCHAR(100), @InDtColName NVARCHAR(50), @InDate NVARCHAR(50) ) RETURNS INT
Hi!I am able to add records to my SQL 2005 database using bound forms in myAccess application, but if I try to edit any records (not only the newrecords I create) using the same bound forms, I receive a write conflict.For the record, I am currently the only user of this application and my SQLServer database has only one userID. I used this userID to create all ofthe objects in the database and to connect to the database from Access. Thedata sources for the bound forms are linked tables, the record source typeis set to "Dynaset" and the record locks are set to "No Locks". "Opendatabases using record-level locking" is checked.The write error says that another user has changed the current record sinceit was opened (since I'm currently the only user this isn't possible) andasks me to copy my changes to the clipboard or drop the changes.Can anyone suggest what might be causing this? Thanks!
Hello everyone,Small and (I think) very simple quesiton;-) which makes me creazy.Let's say I have two tables listed below:T1====IDX====134T2===============IDD fk_IDX===============A1A2A4B1B3B4C4D1D2D3D4I would like to select from table T2 all distinct records IDD whichhave all of fk_IDX containded in T1.The select statement should return in this case ONLY:B and Dbecasue:B has 1,3,4andD has 1,2,3,4 so it has this combination 1,3,4 contained in the T1also.I've tried to do that with group by, with having, in and it neverworks (I always became all records which one of them is in this T1table).Maybe some one from you did try something like that, and can give afast answer.I will be very greatfullGreatingsMateusz
My overarching goal is to generate sets of random Symptom records for each Enrollee in a drug study, so that for each cycle (period of time), the code will insert a random number of random records for each enrollee.
I'm trying to return a number of random records from a table, but inside a table-valued function... (which could be my problem).
CREATE FUNCTION dbo.ufn_GetTopSymptoms ( @enrollID INT , @CTCVersion VARCHAR(20) , @NumRecords INT ) RETURNS TABLE
[Code] ....
But that ORDER BY NEWID() clause is illegal apparently, because here's the error it throws:
Msg 443, Level 16, State 1, Procedure ufn_GetTopSymptoms, Line 13 Invalid use of a side-effecting operator 'newid' within a function.
I was hoping I could return a set of enrollmentIDs and then use CROSS APPLY to generate a random set of records for each enrollmentID... is this not possible with APPLY? I was trying to avoid using a cursor...
The idea is basically to create all the Symptom records for all the patients in treatment cycle at once by using Enrollee OUTER APPLY dbo.ufn_GetTopSymtoms(dbo.Enrollment.EnrolleeID)
but that's clearly not working. Is there a way to do this without resorting to a cursor?
I am using SQL Server 2005 and trying to create a linked server on Oracle 10. I used the commands below: EXEC sp_addlinkedserver @server = 'test1', @srvproduct = 'Oracle', @provider = 'MSDAORA', @datasrc = 'testsource' exec sp_addlinkedsrvlogin @rmtsrvname = 'test1', @useself = 'false', @rmtuser='sp', @rmtpassword='sp'
When I execute select * from test1...COUNTRY I get the error. "The OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server "...." does not contain the table "COUNTRY". The table either does not exist or the current user does not have permissions on that table." The 'sp' user I am connecting is the owner of the table. What could be the problem ? Thanks a lot.
I have an Oracle 9i server. To access the data in Oracle, I setup an ODBC connection to it and am able to return data from it using WinSQL (a general ODBC database client). The SQL statement is simply "SELECT * FROM COLOR" and all 133 records returned properly.
I need to copy the data from the Oracle server to SQL Express, therefore I set up linked server (by Microsoft ODBC provider) using the same ODBC connection as described above.
The problem is: only 32 records returned.
May I ask if there is any problem to this linked server setup?
Ok, I'm really new at this, but I am looking for a way to automatically insert new records into tables. I have one primary table with a primary key id that is automatically generated on insert and 3 other tables that have foreign keys pointing to the primary key. Is there a way to automatically create new records in the foreign tables that will have the new id? Would this be a job for a trigger, stored procedure? I admit I haven't studied up on those yet--I am learning things as I need them. Thanks.
For each blog entry viewed in my web app, a (IPNumber, Date, BlogID) row is inserted into table "BlogViews" How can I fetch the BlogID which has been most often visited, that is has the most number of rows?
Table2 contains fields Group, Name,Category, Dimension (Group and Name are not in Table1)
So basically I need to read the records in Table1 using Groupid and each time there is a Groupid then select records from Table2 where Table2.Category in (Select Catergory from Table1) and Table2.Dimension in (Select Dimension from Table1)
In Table1 There might be 10 Groupid records all of which are different.
I am trying to write a query that will retrieve all students of a particular class and also any rows in HomeworkLogLine if they exist (but return null if there is no row). I thought this should be a relatively simple LEFT join but I've tried every possible combination of joins but it's not working.
SELECT Student.StudentSurname + ', ' + Student.StudentForename AS Fullname, HomeworkLogLine.HomeworkLogLineTimestamp, HomeworkLog.HomeworkLogDescription, ROW_NUMBER() OVER (PARTITION BY HomeworkLogLine.HomeworkLogLineStudentID ORDER BY
[Code] ...
It's only returning two rows (the students where they have a row in the HomeworkLogLine table).
Hello,I'm not an expert in SQL, if you could help me for that littleproblem:I had tree simple tables with their fields:[Client] IdClient, Param[Sale] IdSale, IdClient, Param[Param] IdParam, ValueHow can I retrieve a recordset with this columns ?IdClient, IdSale, ValueOfParamClient, ValueOfParamSaleThe problem is that I can retrieve a Param for one table (Client orSale) like this request :SELECT Client.IdClient, Sale.IdSale, Param.ValueFROM(ClientINNER JOIN SaleON Sale.IdClient = Client.IdClient)LEFT JOIN ParamON Param.IdParam = Sale.ParamBut how can I retrieve the Param of the another table in a simplequery ? (because I would also like that it works for access)Thank for your help,Marc
Hey there! I've take a look around the forum and didn't find anything about my problem. The SelectCommand of my SqlDataSource get data from 3 tables. SqlDataSource.SelectCommand = "SELECT [sa_Profil].[ID], [Nom], [Prenom], [Telephone], [ID_Reference], [ID_Appel], [Nom_Reference], [Type_Appel] FROM [sa_Profil], [sa_Suivi], [sa_Reference], [sa_Appel] WHERE [sa_Profil].[ID] = [ID_Profil] AND [ID_Reference] = [sa_Reference].[ID] AND [ID_Appel] = [sa_Appel].[ID]" How can I wrote my InsertCommand & UpdateCommand ? I mean, INSERT INTO Table1 Table2 ... doesn't exist ... Thanks for your help!
Given the following data how do I make a SQL query that returns only 1 row per product?
The returned rows need consist of only currently active products (that is WHERE (DateEffective <= { fn NOW() }). The twist: Sometimes a product will have duplicate DateEffective records. In that case, only return the record created latest because that's the most current data that exists for a product. RowTimeStap is when the record was created.
Example Data: HistoryID ProductID Name Color DateEffective RowTimeStamp (auto-number PK) 1 1 Wheel Red 2/1/2008 2/1/2008 2 1 Wheel Blue 3/5/2008 3/1/2008 3 1 Wheel Orange 3/5/2008 3/2/2008 4 1 Wheel Black 1/1/2010 3/3/2008 5 2 Knob Blue 3/2/2008 3/2/2008 6 2 Knob Green 3/3/2008 3/3/2008
Query should return: 3 1 Wheel Orange 3/5/2008 3/2/2008 5 2 Knob Green 3/3/2008 3/3/2008
The query I've created fails on the twist part. I have to allow duplicate DateEffective to keep a history of changes. Can anyone help?
I don't know why this is so difficult. What I want to do is take a table name as a parameter to build a query and get an integer value from the result of the query. But from all of the research I have been doing, Dynamic SQL is bad in SQL server because of SQL Injections. But my users are not going to be supplying the table names.
Things I have learned:
- SQL Functions cannot use Exec to execute query strings. - SQL Functions can return a concatenated string that could be used by a stored procedure to Exec the query string.
So how can I write a stored procedure that will
1. take a parameter 2. Pass the parameter to a function that will return a string 3. Execute that string as SQL 4. Get a return value from that SQL statement 5. Then finally, from a View, how can I pass a parameter to the stored procedure and get the returned value from the stored procedure to be used as a field in the View?
Numbers 3, 4, and 5 are where I am really stuck. I guess I don't know the proper syntax and limitations of SQL Server.
1 Banana2 Orange3 Apple Order tblOrder, tblOrder: CustID; ProductID; Amount
1 ;2 ;$20 – means Peter ordered $20 oranges
How do I write the SQL query so that the values in tblProduct become column, currently I have 20 items in that table. So, it will return something like this according to the information that I provide above?
hi all, is there any query to move certain data from a sql data to access table through query. i am having a requirement where i have to fetch the records from a sql table that falls within a specified range to a ms access table. is this possible through a query.
I have the following query:SELECT Month, Sum(Hits) AS Hits FROM tblHits GROUP BY Month ORDER BYMonthUnfortunately it only returns rows for months that have data assignedto them.How can I tweak this so that months 1-12 are returned, and Hits = 0 formonths with no data in the base table?Thanks.
