I have SSRS in Visual Studio. I created a query that works fine in SQL Server Management Studio, but when pasted into Visual Studio I get the error "An expression of non-boolean type specified in a context where a condition is expected, near '('.

Hi all,I'm having a big problem here. I can't seem to connect to a database of MSSQL Server 2005... Here is what I've did:1. Under the Server Explorer>Data Connections. I have a report problem. I'm using a parameter to dynamically control visibility for two tables. If the parameter is set to one value, I want to switch one of the tables to invisible, if the parameter is set to another, I want the other table to be invisible instead.
This all works fine in Visual Studio. When I publish it to my report server, the visibility controls no longer function and both tables always display. Any ideas here?
i ran my project on the visual studio 2005. but when i posted the same folder in teh wwwroot folder, it gave me the following error: An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:PreranaOnCitoRunningFoldercitoason1606App_DataDatabase.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share. Can anybody help me show the way to get through it?? I have a database in my "App_Data" folder of my visual studio project. I can view it fine in Visual Studio's built-in tools for managing a database attached to a solution. However i recently started playing around with the SQL Server Management Studio Express program. When i attach my database to Management Studio, and try to run my program it crashes. I think it might be a permissions error?!? When i detatch it and reattach it in visual studio it runs fine again. Any suggestions? ThanksJason
I recently installed the Evaluation Edition of SQL Server 2005 x64 and it appears that MS Visual Studio 2005 is installed in stead of SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio. When I choose new project the only template available is "Blank Solution". How do I get all the templates (i.e. Analysis Server Project, Integration Services Project, Report Model Project, Report Server Wizard project, etc.)?
Or would it be better to uninstall MS Visual Studio 2005 and attempt to reinstall BIDS?

Good day. I was able to connect to a database server using SQL ServerEnterprise Manager. The Server name specified on the tree isJOMARGON(Windows NT). But no server was detected using either VisualStudio .NET and SQL Server's query analyzer.I highlighted one database (master) on the SQL Server EnterpriseManager and chose 'SQL Query Analyzer' under the 'Tools' menu. What I am trying to accomplish is the ability for users to select which time zone they want the data in the report to display in. To do this, I created a timezone parameter that has the offset from Central Time (which is how all data is stored in our database).
I'm having a strange problem with this but I know (and admit) that the problem is on my PC and nowhere else. My firewall was causing a problem because I was unable to PING the database server, switching this off gets a successful PING immediately. The most useful utility to date is running netstat -an in the command window. This illustrates all the connections that are live and ports that are being listed to. I can establish a connection both by running

Both these utilities show as establishing a connection in netstat so I am able to connect the database server every time, this worked throughout yesterday and has continued this morning.
The problem is when I attempt to use SQL Server Management Studio. When I attempt to connect to tcp:sql5.hostinguk.net, 1433 nothing shows in netstat at all. There is an option to encrypt the connection in the connection properties tab in management studio, when I enable this I do get an entry in netstat -an, see below:
Amost as if it's trying the different ports but you get this time_wait thing. The error message is more meaningful and hopefull because I get:
A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. (provider: SSL Provider, error: 0 - The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)
I would expect this as the DNS has not been advised to encrypt the conection.
This is much better than the : Login failed for user 'COX10289'. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider) that I get, irrespective of whether I enter a password or not.
This is on a XP machine trying to connect to the remote webhosting company via the internet.

I do not have any aliases set up
No I do not force encryption
I wonder if you have any further suggestions to this problem?
I am used to run SQL server 2005 RDBMS with Visual studio 205 for development. recently, i wanted to try it with the inbuilt sql server express and being able to run the membership query / membership functionality. the proble is that i couldn't run the query using 'aspnet_regsql' from command prompt. I've got a SQL2008 database with 2008R2 Express loaded.
In VS2012 if I right click a table and select New Query, I get the Visual Designer.
In VS2013, same database, I get a blank page
I've tried a fresh install of 2012 and 2013 onto a fresh Win8.1, same thing. SQL2012 Express, same. If I use an LocalDB option, again no tools. I've tried Ultimate to see if it's something not in Pro.
Also the "code only" query doesn't connect me to the file properly, so even if I accept doing the query by hand, I have to paste a connection string every time.

I'm attempting to extract some yearly average figures from our DB. I've written a SELECT statement in SQL Server MS which returns exactly what I need:

The problem is that when I attempt to use this in SSRS I get the following error:
"sub.Year is not a recognised DATEPART Option".
Now as you can see, "sub.Year" is not even mentioned in the expression. However I noticed that when running the query, SSRS automatically adds "sub." before the YEAR in the section highlighted in yellow above. a) Why is it doing this, and b) does anyone know of a workaround/fix?

Are there any issues/problems that may be encountered by designing sites via Visual Studio 2005 and using SQL 2000 Server as a backend to a site? Or is it recommended to upgrade to SQL 2005?

To top it off, the first time I tried to enter this message the post failed.
I installed visual studio 2005 and SQL express in the spring and began working with them. Life was good. I got distracted for several months and when I went back in I saw the 2008 beta 2 versions of VS and VWD. I uninstalled everything and installed the new versions, but kept having problems with missing links in the help files. I am a newbie, so the help files were important to me so I decided to go back to the old versions.
I deleted everything again, used the MSI cleanup utility to make sure everything was deleted and tried to reinstall the 2005 versions. At one point I got SQL server installed, but had to use a different (besides SQLexpress) instance name and was unable to link it with VWD. I have repeatedly uninstalled and reinstalled (maybe a dozen times) while trying various means of deleting file contents and under the programs/apdata and Microsoft SQL directories and in various sequences to no avail. The latest message is below along with the end of the log file.
Does anyone know a good hosting vendor for the visual studio authoring environment? (just half kidding)

Just installed vs 2005 and my backend is sql 2000. When I tried to deploy program in vs 2005 to connect to sql 2000, there's error "ERROR [IM002][Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data Source name not found and no default driver specified."

I'm having trouble with CLR based user-defined functions.
When I create a database C# project in Visual Studio 2005, the dialog to pick the database connection doesn't apprear. Except for that, the project seems to be created normally. I am able to write and build my project without a problem.
When I try to release, it says that the connection isn't defined. I do a Project ==> <projname> and then select the database tab on the side. I am unable to type in a connection string because it's grayed out. When I hit the browse button. Visual Studio crashes.
I have one thrid-party Visual Studio installed, Sybase PowerDesigner. I also have the SQL Server 2000 and 2005 client tools installed.
I tried uninstalling the PowerDesigner module. I tried reinstalling and repairing the SQL Server client tools and Visual Studio 2005. I tried uninstalling SQL Server 2000 and 2005 client tools and then intalling Visual Studio 2005 fresh.
Nothing seemed to fix the problem.
