What is the best way to query two datetime values to see if they are alike? I need to determine if an [AccountEndDate] is today (both values are datetime). Using "Like" does not work.

1. I need to query a DateTime field, I'm using the following which works but I was just wondering if there is a faster or better way to query a DateTime field, omitting the Time part:
CAST(FLOOR(CAST(dbo.tblContactLog.DateCreated AS FLOAT)) AS DateTime) <=' + '''' + @EndDate + ''''
2. Also, I'm using the getdate() function to insert the date the record was entered, this always puts in the Date and the Time, is there a way to just put in the Date part?

Problem Querying On DateTime Field

I am having an issue querying DateTime. The field I am querying on holds a full datetime stamp, such as "29/03/2008 13:30:00". I need to query the Date only, and return the results that match the specified date regardless of the time stamp.
So my query would look like this:-
SELECT * FROM table WHERE Date = '29/03/2008'
At the minute my code returns nothing. Is there way way to query the Date only ??

I will pass in the @PlantID int, @IngredientID int, and @Days int. I want to sum the AmountBatched from both tables and display the total for each given day. The @Days will indicate the number of days to query off of previous to the current date. I would also like to eliminate weekends from the results. For example when stored procedure is run passing the following values @PlantID = 1, @IngredientID = 8, and @Days = 14. If date procedure is run is 5/9/2012, would like to summarize for 4/25/2012 to 5/8/2012 excluding weekends if possible.

Notice 4/28, 4/29, 5/5, and 5/6 are eliminated from the results, which are weekends. Is this possible in a sql stored procedure? I am writing an app in vb .net and am hoping to get the results I need in a single call to sql server and not have to make several calls back. I have not worked with advanced datetime methods in sql server before.
Datetime Entry For Querying Analysis Service Cube

I have two problems while using a analysis service cube as data source for a reporting service report.
1.) I've an individual time dimension which has day entries in the standard date format "mm/dd/yyyy". When using an parametric entry for the date hierachy the reporting offers me all entries as a list (some 1000 entries). Looking under report parameters I recognized that the input parameter is listed as of the type string. However I know that the underlying field and as well the hierachy in the cube is of the format datetime. Change it to datetime causes the reporting service to fail with the error message:
An error occured during local report processing.
The property 'ValidValues' of report parameter 'DIM...' doesn't have the expected type.
How can I use the parameter in the format datetime to restrict the time dimension? ...so that I can select the date over the calendar function.
2.) I have another dimension with the hierachy cycle which has the string format "year-month". I would like to use the selection of the date hierachy to create the restriction on the cycle hierachy. I.e. entering '01/16/2007' on the time dimension should write the value '2007-01' to a parameter which is then used to restrict the cycle hierachy. Experimenting with report parameters always caused the error message:
An error occured during local report processing.
An error has occured during report processing.
Query execution failed for data set 'DIM...'.
Query (1,453) The restriction by the CONSTRAINED-flag in the STRTOSET-function has been violated.
As I only allow single value entries I thought about changing the STRTOSET command in the underlying MDX query into STRTOMEMBER. However this didn't solve the problem.
How can I create an input for a restriction on a dimension based on a parameter with a self constructed string?

I have a column of type datetime in sqlserver 2000. Whenever I try to insert the date
'31/08/2006 23:28:59'
I get the error "...datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value"
I've looked everywhere and I can't solve the problem. Please note, I first got this error from an asp.net page and in order to ensure that it wasn't some problem with culture settings I decided to run the query straight in Sql Query Anaylser. The results were the same. What else could it be?

Comparing A Real Datetime To A 'constructed' Datetime

select convert(datetime,'04-20-' + right(term,4)) as dt,

where right(term,4) always returns a string which constitutes a 4 digit year eg '1999','2004',etc.
The SQL above returns
2004-04-20 00:00:00.000 Deposit ...
Which makes me think that it is able to successfully construct the datetime object inline. But then when I try and do:

select convert(datetime,'04-20-' + right(term,4)) as dt,

) where dt >= a.submit_date
I get the following error:
Syntax error converting datetime from character string.
Given that it executes the innermost SQL just fine and seems to convert the string to a datetime object, I don't see why subsequently trying to USE that datetime object for something (in this case comparison with submit_date which is a datetime in the table a) should screw it up. Help!!! Thanks...

I'm a newbie to SQL and wanted to see if someone could help me write a query. I store historical options data in a SQL data base and I'm trying to create a query that will retrieve all ATM (at the money options).
For each unique stock symbol (STOCK_SYMBOL) in my database find the strike price (STRIKE) which is closest to the stock price (UND_LAST). This will be refined by the EXPIRATION and OPT_TYPE
The following query returns all options not just ATM options.
SELECT STOCK_SYMBOL, UND_LAST, STRIKE, EXPIRATION FROM DATA
WHERE EXPIRATION > '2007-02-01 00:00:00'
AND EXPIRATION < '2007-02-28 00:00:00'
AND OPT_TYPE = 'CALL'

Querying SAP Through
Nov 8, 2007I am using MS SQL Server 2005 Import and Export Wizard (.net framework Data Provider for mySAP Business Suite. )
as a interface between SAP and MS SQL 2005.
Once the connection is created i can use basic query to fetch the data from SAP tables
ie., SELECT * FROM AFPO
But say I want to EXTRACT data just for month of July from AFPO.
AFPO does not have date field so you have to join AFPO to AUFK and AUFK to COEP to fetch the date as a criteria to restrict data for the month of July .
This can be done in ABAP by view or Interim Table, if you have Developer Key.
Can anyone please tell me if aforesaid is possible with MS SQL Server 2005 Import and Export Wizard query ?

How do i convert a varchar field into the datetime data type? the reason i need this lies in the requirement that in the earlier data base the column that is hlding the date value is having the data type as varchar. and in the new design the column data type is datetime. i am using sql scripts for the data migration from the older design to the newer and got stuck with this datetime convertion issue. do let me know the best possible solution.

I want to find all the entries where the date field is a specific date; so I may have 5 entries with the date 1/1/2006, and I want to find all of those. However, datetime fields in SQL Server also have the time, so how do you handle that? Can you just say where requestdate = getdate() to get all of the entries that have records for today?
How does time affect this?

The view returns a list of logins and the type field is also a list of logins. I want to filter the list of logins that do not appear in the subquery....

Table A Columns:
OriginatingNumber,
TerminatingNumber
Both of these columns contain npanxx numbers which would be the first 6 digits of a phone number, example 217345 which is in illinois.
Table B Columns:
npanxx,
state
table B hold all npanxx numbers in the united states and what state it pertains to.
what i need to do is run a query to check and see what state the OriginatingNumber and the TerminatingNumber are in and decide if both numbers passed are in the same state or not.
so for example in Table A Row 1: OriginatingNumber is 217345 and the TerminatingNumber is 309454. I need to check both of these numbers against table B and it would return that both numbers are in IL. Basically I need to return a result of yes or no. yes they are in the same state or no they are not in the same state.
Any help would be great

TeacherID

AssistantID
LessonTemplateID and TermID link to other tables which i don't need right now.
The Class.TeacherID and Class.AssistantID both link to the Staff.ID
I am trying to create a query where i can say i want to select a class.ID of lets say 12 and display both the Teachers name and the Assistants Name.
If i do just one join between Staff.ID and lets say Class.TeacherID all is fine and i can display the teacher.FirstName for a particular class.ID. However my problem is when im trying to display both teacher and assistant. Every time i try to create a query to do this the query comes back blank.
Im really stuck on this and just can't figure it out (is it even possible?).
