View 3 RepliesHi,
We have currently done one data ware house project with MS SQL server, reporting server, analysis server and integration server and the users are very happy with it (especially the speed).
The reports have been developed by a developer. I have years of experience in Visual studio, SQL, reports so I could do it very quickly. The users want to make their own reports so they need training. If I look at the requirements for most books and courses they are pretty hard. You must have some experience in SQL server. Or books are focussed on RS2000. Or the books could elapse the whole spectrum of SQL, ETL, cubes and reports or they go in to securing reports.
I think that is not the information that the users want to know. It should start with what is a cube, what are dimensions and what are facts. Then explain something in how do I get the information in excel. And then make reports in the visual studio environment (not the builder on the report server, but the report designer that comes with the client tools in visual studio). Keep in mind that they are not developers nor database administrators.
Any suggestions,
Constantijn Enders

Location: UK south coast.
Thanks in advance
I have the opportunity to take some MS SQL Server 2000 training courses for my Marketing Database Analayst job. The companies I have come accross so far are Learning Tree, ONLC Training Centers, and Hands On Technology Transfer, Inc. (HOTT). Has anyone had any experience with these companies?
The course I may be taking are
- Querying Microsoft® SQL Server™ 2000 with Transact-SQL
- Populating a Data Warehouse with Microsoft® SQL Server™ 2000 Data Transformation Services
- Administering a Microsoft® SQL Server™ 2000 Database
Any input is greatly appreciated,
Marc
I have been trying to use SQL 2005 data mining for about 8 weeks. I am becoming frustrated because I am not able to make progress nor am I able to exploit the power of the system.
I need a training course! I have asked Microsoft in UK for recommendations but they have been unable to help. I have searched for courses in the UK and US without sucess.
I am coming to the Microsoft BI event in Seattle - will there be any opportunities there to get help or find help? (In Seattle I intend to concentrate on the Excel add ins)
Thank you
Quick question. I am in the NYC area (Westchester) and I am using Cognos DecisionStream to build my SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Data Warehouse.
I want to learn more about complex SQL, specifically for SQL Server.
What do you reccommend? Should I go for strictly an advanced SQL course, or should I go for SQL Server training.
Does anyone know of a really good site where I can find Advanced SQL training?
Also, I want to learn more about scripting and VB. Can anyone reccommend a place where I can get this beginner training.
Sorry to take up your time, but to sum up:
1. Advanced SQL training in NYC area
2. Beginner VB training in NYC area.
Cost is not necessarily an issue.
Thanks!

View 1 Replies View RelatedHi,
I have to buy two books for the MIS dept for sql server 2000. Which one do you recommend? We are still on sql 7.0 and migrating to 2000 soon. All developers have good experience with sql server 7.0.
Want something that gives you recommendation about better practices for performance issues for writing SPs.
I read all the reviews on amazon and b&N . It's confusing to choose only two.
Any recommendations?
Can Anyone tell where I can found a tutorial about Transact-SQL ?

Hi,
I just started at a client's site and have found that the Books On Line has been removed (all other items are there in the program group instead of BOL). Is there a site at microsoft that mimicks BOL? (sybase has a 'sybooks on the web' which mimicks their 'Sybooks' product documentation.
Any help would be appreciated.

How do you use BOL? I've heard time again that there is much info in BOL but when i look at it it seems too brief and not detailed. I find it hard to find what i'm looking for anyway. How do you use it?
Thanks!

hi guys,
i m a newbee in SQL. i wanted to know which is the nice book to start with? anyone got ebooks of SQL2005?
we are trying to build warehouse in our company its very small database but still.
we have come to a point where we are able to pull reports from the database that we have created as OLTP which is truncated and reloading everyday .
Now we have to stop doing that and just update the database and check for the changes in the existing data.
Can anyone suggest ETL book/webcast/weblinks that could help me.
Thanks in advance

Ok I found these two books
http://www.wrox.com/WileyCDA/WroxTitle/productCd-0764589237.html
and this one
http://www.wrox.com/WileyCDA/WroxTitle/productCd-0764584332.html
Could someone explain the difference between these 2 books besides the fact that one is geared towards the express edition. The SQL Programming book sounds more thorough than the Express Edition book.
I would be teaching an applied database course to buisness majorundergrads. I'm looking for a book that introduces database conceptsusing SQLServer as the database. I would really appreciate if you couldrecommend me a few such books.ThanksNemo

Hi All -
I have come across the need to use a cube in AS 2005 for an application. Unfortunately this will be the first time writting an ASP.Net application which uses one. I was wondering if any of you had any good books or references that I could look at to get an idea of how I should approach this issue.
Thanks in advance.
Can anybody suggest a couple of good books to use to prepare for the SQL Data Warehousing exam (70-019)? I'm starting to get ready for that exam to complete my MCDBA and was wondering if anybody had any good recommendations or those to stay away from.
Thanks for any help that you can provide in this matter.
Tom
Sorry if this has been posted before, but I performed a search on the archives and didn't find anything !
I have just been turned over a SQL 6.5 SP3 / NT 4.0 SP3 server that has several SQL errors in the event log. I need to find a good book to read/scan, so I can get up to speed on SQL.
Thanks,
